Title: GNR mention in this months Q mag!
Post by: Mr Rage on July 02, 2006, 05:34:44 PM
it's an 80's special this month!

2 mentions really,
1st GNR number 10 in the best 40 albums of the 80's for AFD
2nd GNR number 15 in best song of the 80's for SCOM

the mag talks about them postively and when talking about the album the amusing title of " the album that launched a million bandannas "

Erm, it also puts Axl under  the "bad month for" section as well :(

Says the tour fell flat after he kept everyone waiting at hammersmith, bit sloppy by them as they are usually quite fair & pro Axl.

there have been  couple of positive tour reviews, by and large tho, you have to be honest - the press have been harsh

the only thing for it is to release CD - until then, expect harsh reviews

Exactly. I expect more criticism until it comes out.

Q has been the most reliable, honest and humorous magazine of the last ten years, but I feel Uncut and Mojo are not far behind.

I noticed that when ever their is an article on GNR it always is a pic of the old band even when talking about the new band!

There's also a retrospective article in the latest issue of Uncut.

Q really is the worst 'alternative' british music publication around. even the nme isnt as horrid as what q has become. and whats worse is that mojo is fast becoming the same. uncut is just about worthwhile, but the redesign has done it no favours (and if ever there was a warning sign, its a 100 greatest debut albums issue) and in a couple of years it will be where mojo is now - in need of being terminated.
unfortunately q has long since passed that moment and morphed into smash hits around 1998/9.

dis-agree they at least are objective and don't jump on the band wagon like NME n Kerrang

fair enough. and i do accept they have been less assholish to guns. but then that maybe because they're really the only magazine in that group - uncut/mojo/q/nme - that actually kept tabs on gnr throughout the barren years.

anyone care to transcribe the uncut blurb?

the reason i like the mag is that, they don't dismiss albums before they hear it, they are fair across the board from hip-hop to heavy metal!

Let's face it.. that won't make a difference.. even if CD is released and is a masterpiece, the reviews will still be harsh.

I stopped buying Q when it started going for all the crap indie bands.  Also, I don't listen to 99% of the genres they talk about, so its a hell of a lot to pay for stuff I'm not interested in.   And it never has articles about power metal lol.  I personally think that these magazines have had their day.  The internet has made them largely obsolete.  If you want interviews, news, pix etc. you can get it faster, cheaper, more up to date, greater in quantity and with greater bredth of opinion online.

There'll be more harsh reviews when it comes out, you can guarantee that!!

sorry - I cant agree with this quite common view.

To some degree Axl will always catch shit without Slash there, but if he releases a kick-ass, classic album, that will hold him in a lot better stead - he will be able to justify his actions somewhat. There will be a small measure of vindication

but this view on these boards that seems quite prevelant amongst some of you, that the media has some unfounded vendetta against Axl is simply untrue. I think the media just calls a spade a spade now - if Axl does lame shit like show up late/sing poorly etc.. they dont make excuses for him, as they shouldnt

thats your opinion i can respect that, but i like other types of music including indie, so it's a good mag for me!

But all they do month on month is shove out lazy lists of whatever they talked about in the pub at lunchtime. It's always "The best 50..." this and "The 30 most..." that - lazy journalism of the worst kind.

The likes of Uncut and (the) Word magazine have far better standards. NME isn't even worth mentioning - it is what it's been for years, a nasty indie rag always looking for the next bandwagon.
