Title: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: elevendayempire on June 30, 2006, 04:17:13 AM Just wondering... a few people have commented that (flying in the face of all the evidence) Axl's current band is just a placeholder; he'll release Chinese Democracy and will then get back together with Slash, Duff and the rest "once he's got it out of his system." Leaving aside the fact that these people are living in a dream world, in the unlikely event that Axl were to leave Ron, Dizzy, Tommy and the others high and dry to get back together with people he hasn't seen for 10 years and doesn't like very much... where would that leave the rest of GN'R? Ron/Tommy/Richard/the others have clearly got chemistry together... Are they enough of a musical draw for you guys that you'd go and see them with a new lead singer? (Scott Weiland? ;) )

Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: mlewis on June 30, 2006, 04:20:41 AM Definitely. There's a clear chemistry between them, and they can play rock like nobody else is at the minute.

Post by: babydolls on June 30, 2006, 04:59:32 AM interesting - I would go and see them after the hammersmith and donington gigs for sure.
I am glad I have seen VR though - their on-stage chemistry is amazing too - they've moved on, so I thought I should - would highly recommend seeing them if your a fan of their playing. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Tomorrows on June 30, 2006, 05:12:03 AM Well, if they had never been in GnR then I probably wouldnt.
Now that Ive been exposed to them through new Guns - HELL YEAH! Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Poof! on June 30, 2006, 05:16:39 AM I was a fan of Robin's before GN'R, and I probably would've followed his career regardless of what shape it took, and if Axl got rid of these guys in order to get back with the old GN'R, I'd be more excited about what the remains of the new GN'R could do than the old GN'R.
Fuck it, I said it. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Damir [#] on June 30, 2006, 06:28:48 AM No fucking way.

Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: tonya_ytzerman on June 30, 2006, 07:15:27 AM I wouldn't travel as far as I do for Gn'R, but if any of them (solo, or any subset of the band, or Buckethead, or Gilby [1]) played a gig somewhat reasonably close to where I live, sure! I have seen Gn'R 4 times this year, and was very impressed.
The band seem to get along really well - for example Robin and Richard, Richard joined Tommy for some of his gigs on the Village Gorilla Head Tour, Dizzy helped out on VGH, ... . That's something I really find cool  IMO the current lineup ist the best band that existed since I got into the Gn'R thing (which was after Izzy had left). Might be that the "original" lineup was better than the current one before 1991, but after 1991, they were constantly quarreling etc. The 2002 band was great - Buckethead IMO is a genius of a guitarist, but he just didn't fit into the band as good as Ron. [1] I have seen Velvet Revolver, and if you want my opinion on them, go look for the review I wrote. That's why they're missing in that list. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: agropolus on June 30, 2006, 08:05:05 AM Very good question indeed.
But I think I probably wouldn't go see them without Axl, just like I wouldn't go to a Velvet Revolver show. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: oldgunsfan on June 30, 2006, 08:06:20 AM not a chance ;D

Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Katrin on June 30, 2006, 08:41:02 AM after seeing them live and everything... yes, I sure would. Like tonya said- if they' d play a gig not too far away from where I live, I' d certainly be there.

What makes this "band," what has ALWAYS made the band is Axl's voice. And like someone said earlier, you can't say anything about this current lineup until something from the studio is actually released. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: mick on June 30, 2006, 09:20:22 AM HAHA! OF COURSE NOT.
Psychedelic Furs - NIN - Primus - Replacements - WhateverBumblefoot did prior I own exactly -0- albums from the above. I have been to exactly -0- concerts from the above. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: pasnow on June 30, 2006, 09:32:11 AM HAHA! OF COURSE NOT. Psychedelic Furs - NIN - Primus - Replacements - WhateverBumblefoot did prior I own exactly -0- albums from the above. I have been to exactly -0- concerts from the above. Haha, good point. Although I own 2 Replacements ablums & 1 NIN, I do like all the bands & did see Primus at Lollapalooza '94 (I was more there to see AIC among others) Anyway, to answer the original question, well it depends on the singer. If it was Weiland, no way.. I can put up with VR but still think they could have gotten a better singer, I never liked him from day 1 with STP. Also depends how good their album was I might buy the CD. Don't think I'd see them in concert though. One sidenote: I don't think this combo would ever have formed had it not been for Axl & the chance to play in GnR. So it's kindof a moot point. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: estranged2006 on June 30, 2006, 09:34:13 AM I don\'t think this combo would ever have formed had it not been for Axl & the chance to play in GnR. and all the axl rose money. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Neemo on June 30, 2006, 09:37:56 AM No i wouldn't go see them if they didn't have Axl with them  but I'd go see a buckethead show or a bumblefoot show if they ever came near me : ok:
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: AdZ on June 30, 2006, 09:50:20 AM If they had a good singer. Yes.
If they didn't, obviously not, because then it would be a goodband with a sucky singer. But yeah, they're an amazing band. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Miggy on June 30, 2006, 09:52:04 AM I don't know. I should hear some music first.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: dizzy68 on June 30, 2006, 09:59:08 AM I wouldn't waste my Money to see this Band without Axl. He's the star of the show. Frankly I would be hesitant to see the Band as it is now since in my eyes it's barely Guns n Roses. But without Axl you've REALLY got nothing!
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: blueheart on June 30, 2006, 10:02:34 AM I guess I would... but not with Scott... I went to see VR last year and I didn t like that guy... If they ever play again I guess I ll go ... but not for him... just to see Slash and Duff once more...
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Where is Hassan Nasrallah ? on June 30, 2006, 10:05:55 AM who would sing ?
what would be the band ? there are a lot of parameters but if you're implying, in a world where these guys have never been involved with gnr and one day i get to an ad saying " Robin Finck from Nine Inch Nails and bumblefoot and tommy stinson are playing live at ... " no i would go. the people who didnt go see VR live are not GNR fans. that's for sure. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Shirell on June 30, 2006, 10:17:52 AM In short No. I really rate the band. But for me, the band without Axl would not induce me to pay the price of the ticket.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Krispy Kreme on June 30, 2006, 12:47:00 PM Not as Guns n Roses.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Lord Kayoss on June 30, 2006, 01:23:03 PM That's gonna be a negative. I wouldn't have seen the old band without him. Hence me not giving two shits about Velvet Revolver.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Jimmy? on June 30, 2006, 01:32:00 PM After seeing them in London on the 7th, i'd have to give a resounding YES! Great guys, great chemistry....would definately go see them w/out Axl. If I'd have been asked before the gig however......
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: the dirt on June 30, 2006, 02:03:21 PM I brought up this idea in a thread long ago.
The band would be called No Rose :) http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=18125.0 Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: GNR estranged on June 30, 2006, 03:05:34 PM i would see buckethead live. as far as the new band goes, it depends. i definatly wouldnt pay over $30 to see them. ill tell you one thing ,if somebody said i had to pick one band to see between them, linkin park, yellowcard, coheed, or any of those new bands out today, hands down i would pick the new band.

And not with scott plz. He just wouldn't fit. Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: Bono on June 30, 2006, 05:05:03 PM I think I'd go see any band that Richard was playing in as long as I liked the music the band was playing. That guys fucking rocks. He was awesome at Hammerstein. To be honest I dont' really care about any of the other guys really. I think Tommy should just go to Soul Asylum.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: johnnythunders24 on June 30, 2006, 05:11:56 PM I've seen Tommy solo 3 times, and Brain once, with BH....so yes

Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: chineseblues on June 30, 2006, 09:23:56 PM Fuck yeah I would, I was a fan of both Tommy and Robin before they were even in GNR. If Richard, Robin, Tommy, Brain Chris and Dizzy formed a band with say Tommy on vocals then that would be a kickass band. We know Tommy can sing great just from his solo album and we know those guys can write kickass music.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: estranged2006 on June 30, 2006, 10:03:14 PM it would suck with out axl rose. hes the star and the only reason they are popular.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: AxlRose4eva1 on June 30, 2006, 10:41:25 PM HAha, without Axl maybe I would want to see them just to laugh at the mayhem. Yes they are all talented, but they have such different styles and like it or not were brought together by a want of money or a wish to play with Axl. If theoretically they all had found eachother on their own and worked their way up the music ladder together then hell yeah they have the talent ot be amazing, but take away Axl, there would be no band.
Title: Re: Would you go and see this band without Axl? Post by: faldor on June 30, 2006, 11:18:46 PM Absolutely not. Ah, maybe if they played all the GNR classics at the local bar for a $10 cover. Maybe then.
