Title: Oslo, Norway @ Spektrum, 28th June / Updates with picture July 4th
Post by: Nytunz on June 27, 2006, 11:15:06 AM
Update from Norway!

Okay. Just a little update from Norway.
Im in Oslo right now, and woke up to the crazy news about Axl beeing arrested in Sweeden!

Scary, i know! But listen to this!

1 hour ago, i was injoying a Heiniken on Sentraal Cafe in Oslo, and guess who i saw walking right outside my window!?
Mr. Richard Fortus. I ran out, hoped to get a word with him, but he was running into a crowd of people.. Anyway.. it means that GNR are in Oslo now! So keep your eyes clean Gunners? :peace: : ok:

Edit:

Nytunz back with update from OSLO!!

Well, this i never expected. I was drinking my beer, with two friends
when i suddently saw a familiar face outside the bar. Yeah! Guess who????
Mr. Dizzy Reed! I got outside and carefull introduced me to Dizzy!
He was great and sign a pieace of paper... He was very easy to talk to, and i got to ask
him a few Questions... I asked if they would play Chinese Democracy, and he said, "well, we playd it last night"
and i said i thought the song is awsome, and that it would be great if they played it again! He was happy about
that comment..? : ok:

I also said i LOVE " Oh My God " and Dizzy said they wouldenet do that song live yet, but that
thay actually had recorded a different version of the song, then the one we know from 1999

I asked him about Axl arrested in Sweeden, and he was really calm, and said he dident knew that much about it
but it would work out.

He said the tour was going great, and that the new Drummer was really good, and that Brain had to go home because
of his Wife was going to have a child.

He said he didnt know when Chinese Democracy was going to come out, but had a strange goodlooking face when he said that.

hmm.. all i remember.. He went with some friends after a while, i dident want to bother him too much...

btw. im gonna see them tomorrow, and will update u guys after the concert, i have a feeling there will be some rants
on the Oslo show!

Good night

UPDATE July 4th :

Well, now im finally back from my little hollyday in Oslo, and Roskilde!
This have been some great days i will never forgot!

I Also Meet Robin in Oslo:
I meet Robin! Walking through Karl Johan (Oslo`s main street) I think it was about four or five aclock
wedensday 28th.. Me and my brother had some lunch on a cafe near Grand Hotel. When i suddently saw this VERY tall guy
with a familiar face waliking down the street. Yeah, it was Robin Finck.. I was on the phone then, so i only managed to give
him the? :peace: sign, and he gave me back two! i hang on the phone, and was wondering if i should run after him, or just give it up.
But he had come so far, and the street was full of people so i turned it down. Anyway, i did not rule out the possability that he might
return back to the hotel, and walk by us again. I was right! Wile injoing a cold beer,in the sun, and still was abit shacky from the
Robin sighting.. i suddently saw Robin came back down the street. He was walking about 1 meter from me, so i just said calm and polite
"hey Robin". He stopped, we shaked hands, and talked for a little while... i asked how the tour was going, and he said it was going good.
the time offstage, traveling etc. could be "ups and downs",? but the showtime was really great. I told him i really hoped that they would
play Chinese Democracy! (And they fucking did!? : ok: ) Then Robin made a comment about my GNR shirt "you allready got a shirt?" he asked
and i told him i bought it in London a couple of years ago (2002 merch) At the end i asked if i could take a picture of us.. and he said "sure"
I thanked him, and then we then said farwell.

This was so funny! I got to see 3 of the GnR members on the streets of Oslo!? : ok:

I will upload the picture tomorrow!? : ok:

PS: For the guy, hoping i was telling the truth, i could post a pic of Dizzys signature.

i will post a review of the Concert tomorrow. I have to go to sleep now?

ps: i will also wright a review from the Roskilde Concert

So, here is the pic of Robin and me in Oslo. 28th of June.

It says that the Oslo concert may not happen because Axl isnt released from prison.
The swedish state attourney has "detained" Axl and may hold him for 72 hours. Hopefully they will release him sooner

If Axl plays along they will probably release him soon,

If he is a bitch with the police they man let him wait.

I wish these concert threads would be limited to actual show updates so when it is actually going on you don't have to scroll through 7 pages to get an update.  However now that I am posting I am as guilty as all of you.  I'll shut up now.

I bet people with tickets to the concert will be somewhat nervous.
After what has happened if Axl were to no show somewhere, this would be the best bet.

I doubt he will though. He has too much momentum goin to fuck it up.

I hope for the band's sake, this show goes on.

I just have a feeling it won't.

I am with the poster who said in another thread that Axl is bipolar and has his moods.

He could just say "fuck it" and be all embarrassed and depressed and not do this show.

You never know with Axl Rose but when you are a fan of GNR, you learn to take the good with the bad.

Norwegian teletext reports that Axl refused to leave his plain because of the press and at least stayed there until midnight. Only waitress girl were allowed to go onboard or something.

Dont worry though, as Im sure he left after playing cat n mouse with the press for awhile. We will be out looking for GNR members today and if we see anyone like Nytunz we will report back!

Poor guy probably has a bitch of a hangover if he was really as drunk as reports claim. There is a pic floating around of his private jet on the runway with the pilot standing in the doorway, no Axl though...... he apparantly refused to leave for over 4 hours, only letting a waitress onto the plane to bring him fresh ice!

And please don't anyone go off topic, it was annoying trying to read the Stockholm thread, when your trying to read the live updates people are sending in and other people are talking about stuff that has completely nothink to do with the show.

Either that or play a nice calm acoustic set   :smoking:

And I have a friend going to this and I hope everything does turn out for the best but my gut tells me otherwise.

Well, I think Axl is intelligent enough to release that playing a good gig is the one real way he can avoid embarassment in the press. Unless of course he's happy for his career to go up the shitter.

dolphin, what happened to you? what made you so negative?  :(

My gut tells me all will be well with GNR. Why? GNR is with the MUSEs and Lady Luck.

I much prefer his wicked oneliners by which he interacts with the fans and other members to one way rants.

I feel the same way. Also, I feel tonights show will be just as good as any other one.  I think there may be one or two oneliners about the arrest, but that's it.

just being realistic.

if this tour implodes don't say you weren't warned or start to question why it all derailed.

too many people are living in denial.

Axl is bipolar and his personal life affects his professional life.

You're living under some dark cloud. Everything is bad. It seems like nothing good has happened in the past month while the band has been in Europe.

Axl looks happier on stage than he has in the past. He's out having fun. That's what you do at parties, have fun.

Yet you and others keep repeating over and over about how everything is just bad and wrong.

You obviously didn't see any of the European shows. If you did, you wouldn't say stuff like? "his personal life affects his professional life."....

I agree.  If anything, look at Donnington.  Axl could have walked off stage after the early difficulties.  Instead, he stuck it out and turned a negative situation into a positive.  Who knows?  After this incident, Axl might give some particularly ferocious performances.

First updates:

Hi! Reporting from Oslo, Norway ;-) there are a lot of tixscalpers outside. The area seems too wide, luckily we're 15 feet from center stage.

Avenged 7fold finally hits the stage at 2045 :/

A few minutes after 9:00 p.m, the plane landed in Oslo and that's when another bizarre drama started, according to Aftonbladet.

Axl refused to leave the airplane and instead started another party at the landing field. Ice cubes were delivered by car to the plane, according to Aftonbladet. After four hours, at 1:00 a.m., Axl left the plane and was taken by limo to a hotel in central Oslo.

It seems that Axl left the plane like 24 hours ago.

It's irritating for people when they try to read the thread next morning, and try and figure out what went on, and they have to crawl trough through all the other shit.

yeah i think so too this thread isnt about those things.. but in the end of the concert there will be guys wondering about the complete setlist.. and at every update there is a list with the solos and songs and stuff like that.. so you don't have too go through all the pages there will be a long list then.. if you know what i mean?

Yeah, sorry, what Little Fly said.

I don't think Axl will say much at all about his latest trouble.

So far...out of the 18 listed, only 9 are actual songs. I don't mind the jams, but that's just wayyy too much. Why not mix it up and let Stinson sing a song or two to give Axl a rest?

ffs the jams last anything from 15secs to 1 min sometimes when the stage is being arranged why the fuck do people keep moaning about it it breaks up the min or so silence you would get otherwise

You know at first I was like cool Axl is giving the guys a chance to be in the spotlight but I guess I was in the minority thinking it was alright. Something has got to change with the set. Maybe give the guys a chance to shine during solos in the songs. Example give a extended guitar solo in November Rain. This would give the guys a chance to shine while including it into a song. Hell cut all the solos out, and there would be time for a few more songs, like TWAT!!!!

That is a great idea, in my opinion. It would give Axl a break between some of the harder songs for him to sing, and give Tommy a chance to show off his voice.  : ok:

its a gn'r show. tommy sings his songs at his shows.

outside that it would also look like tommy was whoring out his solo work through gnr which isnt the case.

No I hope they dont play anything NEW, stick with only what was leaked, and Maddy and the Blues. Hell we have already heard half of Chinese (if those songs appear on Chinese). We have waited this long why not wait until the album is out before playing a ton of new stuff.

there aren't that many solos.. those jams you put on the setlist as proper songs are in fact fillers of no more than a minute while they move gear and stuff. I don't even know why everyone highlights those jams in the setlists.. makes them look like big fat long solos, which is not the case..

and also,ALL those people at concert follow gnr boards every day,and know setlist by heart, and think its boring, and ofcourse they dont want hits like SCOM,KOHD,NT,YCBM,WTTJ,PC and others to be played on GNR concert.instead of that they want perfect crime, pretty tied up,garden of eden, down on the farm, double talkin jive and dust n' bones.

It's quite simple what the purpose is, make a few million bucks now, in case the album bombs and they cannot tour in this incarnation again!? Really, it's quite simple.
It's also quite simple that you're clueless.

Thanks for the updates we on the board greatly appreciate it!!! Sounds like another fine Guns show. I was a little nervous about this show, but it seems as if it went on without a hitch. Lets now sit back and wait for the reviews.

The reviews are probably going to suck because the critics can't seem to accept the fact that this is a new band

Just got home from the show. Gotta say it was really cool! Axl made fun of the swedes saying something along the lines of "this song is a good song to sing when you're in jail" about "Patience". The sound was pretty nice and the band looked like they had a good time! The crowd was also pretty nice, but not so responsive of the new songs and some people seemed to get tired of the solos. But I got a piece of Dizzy's towel so all is cool!

Go take a shower, Dizzy!!!

well, ask the other people who were fighting to get it!

I'm sorry to say I can't remember more of what he said. But he absolutely was in a great mood, and he made some funny comments. Close to 2,5 hour show too! The norwegian press still managed to write that Eminem is smarter than Axl, so my fair guess is that a very solid (and funny) show will get some average reviews.

Actually it was split in pieces as part of a compromise! I suppose that's the best way to do it when no one wanna let it go! But enough of the towel story... I'm sure there's a bootleg out there anyway. Looked like someone were filming it from the seating area, but I do think there may not be any complete videos. I would say this bootleg should be interesting though, cos of quotes and a few very solid performances. Rocket Queen and YCBM were both very nice! Same with Better.

If the setlist wasn't reported already: they played everything they've done from appetite cept Think About You, no UTLH but everything else they've done so far. New songs: Better, The Blues, IRS, CD, Madagascar. No TWAT unfortunately.

I don't know about you guys , but it seems to me like the fans ( atleast the people who post reviews here)   are beginning to not dig these shows as much as they were at the beginning of tour. At the beginng people were kind of digging the solos  and didn't really mind them  but now the reaction towards them is not good at all  and the band is getting bad reviews because of it .  When will Axl get it through his head that these solos are hurting the band  and he should stop it ASAP.  If they are going to be performing those solos in the U.S  then he might as well not even show up at the KROQ thing in california because it will be a Donnington part 2 .

Alright, got the quote I referred wrong. I didn't hear that well and was told that was what was said... But what he really said probably was "The next song is one of the ingredients you may need when rent-a-cops go bad". That seems more right. And he also said something like "that was straight outta sweden, A.W.A. - Asshole with attitude" after the jam / before November Rain.

The Dizzy's towel incident is getting scarier. I managed to get out of the GnR show with Dizzy's hair! When I woke up today, I couldn't see that one coming... so here's the towel with some of Dizzy's DNA (edited due to confusion).

Why is there such an all-out effort by some here to stifle the TRUTH about the tour?  Another poster remarked Axl sounded great, but he didn't care for the hired Guns behind him.  He got called a Slash fan and was told not to post his review tomorrow.

Axl apparently thinks he made Guns N' Roses.  Perhaps he's finding out that's not true.  What's wrong with talking about it?  Maybe the sooner Axl realizes its not true, the sooner he'll reconcile with Slash and the others.

The truth?  What you call the truth is not in fact truth, but merely a matter of opinion, as 3 pointed out right below you.

As far as where the quote in your post started, in reference to the solos during the tour, the Illusion-era Guns played some really long solos, too.  This is nothing new.

Just come home from Oslo. It was amazing, Axl sounded great! I don't really have time with an review right now, must have some sleep... I met the whole band except Axl and Finck at the After Party. AMAZING!
I talked to Bbf for a while and he was so nice, so cool. But he wasn't to happy 'bout the press... Pitman was great to, what a nice guy. He laughed at my t-shirt: "Chinese Democracy, I'v been waiting for ten years".

I met Merck and Beta to. I will never forget this night, so amazing. I will give you more later.

Hope you enjoyed the updates I gave to Steve McKagan. It was quiet hard but I hope you enjoyed it.

Why are people still bitching about the solos, would the fans that hate them rather just the band come out and play the songs and that is it? The solos add more to the show, plus it gives axl a breather to catch his wind and lets the band show their talents.

All in all, it was an okay Axl-Rose-Sings-Karaoke-show. 5/10. It is NOT a band, it's Axl Rose and some hired background musicians. I'll post some more tomorrow.

Why oh Why are you even here? People like you make me fucking sick! The band do not need you as a fan! Please dont post anymore tomorrow. Mike

I don't know about you guys , but it seems to me like the fans ( atleast the people who post reviews here)   are beginning to not dig these shows as much as they were at the beginning of tour.

Speaking as a fan and member of this board who's seen 6 shows on this tour, I'd just like to say that far from my enthusiasm for this band waning, it actually increases with each show.  The last two shows, Paris and Stockholm, have been out of this world and I appreciate the solos more with each passing show I attend as well.  I do write reviews of each show I attend but admit that I don't post them here.  If it will help provide a balance of opinion, then maybe I will in future.

Maybe it's because he didn't give a shit about how the band performed. For assholes like that it doesn't matter if it's the greatest band ever on stage. As long as it's not Slash, Duff & Izzy behind Axl, then it will always suck.

People like that make me fucking sick too. If you wanna criticize a show, please write constructively. That means explaining why the band that took the stage sucked. And, no, a valid reason is not "It is NOT a band, it\'s Axl Rose and some hired background musicians".

It is a fucking band. You don't like that fact? Fine! It doesn't change anything. Please don't post that crap here. And that goes for all the two week wonders who've shown up here after attending a gig and posting similar crap. We have a fine and well moderated board, but with limited resources so please don't fuck it up for the rest of us!

It always cracks me up when the diehard fans have to read anything where people arn't kissing the Bands ass. They have a virtual meltdown! Guess what people? I Like Guns n Roses, but if I'm not happy with something they've done I will come here and talk about it. Being a fan does not mean you have to lick Axl's freaking Shoes. Everyone has there own opinion. Read it and move on.

NO. It is not about kissing Axl's ass. But if you do _not_ accept the fact that this is the current lineup of Guns N' Roses and decide to bring it up in virtually every thread you post in, you can go away. I'm not saying you're doing it, but some people seem to be here just to do that. That, is not welcome.

We've had this discussion many times, and if some still complain about it, they can go do that some place else.

Alert: This post may contain negative or not-worship comments about the band. Read at your own risk, this is my opinion.

First off, I've been a fan for a long, long time, and the reason I went to the show was because I really wanted to see what Axl has to offer now. I was really excited about the show, and I can't wait any longer for the album to come out.

What a start! The band kicked off with WTTJ, It's So Easy and Mr. Brownstone, a killer start.  :D

Halfway through things started to change, the solos came more frequently, and the audience's mood seem to change. The crowd seem to become less excited after the first hour or so. During the noisy and silly Don't Cry and Beautiful solos some people just watched with their hands in their pockets and a lot of chatter could be heard. I thought the solos were quite boring myself and that they just killed the mood.

The songs that seemed to get most response from the audience was KOHD, Live and Let Die and You Could Be Mine, which seemed a bit strange to me since two of these are not Gn'R songs. I was hoping that Axl and his band may have come up with another cover song to replace KOHD, it has been 13 years, but no. Well...

However, My Michelle and Nighttrain rocked! I never heard them so good, and there were many highlights as these.

Patience was not so good. It seems like Finck used the same guitar sound as he did on Paradise City and that did not fit well with the acoustic guitar. The acoustic guitar drowned and the song suffered from that.

The band finished with Paradise City with confetti and all. Confetti....guns and roses....  :-[

Good night!

NICE :)

None of the biggest newspapers will review the concert due to the "photo-contract" they have to sign.   :-\
Basically they are allowed to use 1 photo, for 1 time only, and not reprint or sell it.

VG (biggest paper) just had a story about how Axl requested models for the concert and afterparty.

About the song intros.. I think it's cool that they try to do something countryspecific everytime.

Guns used to do some 'not so rock' intros back in the day as well. Used songs like One by Elton John, or  bad time to be in love, which, in its original form is far more horrific imo than any of these songs played now.

So it's nothing new. It's okay not to like them. It's just stupid to try and use it as an argument against the new band is what I'm saying.

More about the show. I'm glad Axl was right back on track after the little incident.

Yeah, I did enjoy them and thank you for taking the time to do them.? (That goes to everyone else who's done it for this tour too.) ? 8)

As you were there, perhaps you could answer a question I have regarding the standing arrangements.? Did they have a separate section at the front of the venue and were you given a wristband or something so that you could come and go?? Also, roughly what time did people start queuing to get in?? Reason for asking is that I have a standing ticket for the 8th and know that each venue/location seem to have slightly different procedures.? Thanks in advance.

I just got home from Oslo and here is my personal opinion of the concert.

The show was great in some ways and bad in other ways. Me and my friends were standing about 20 feet right in front of the stage and had pretty good sight.

The positive things:
+ There was alot of energy on the stage
+ I dont think there were any fuckups or messed up parts
+ Great setlist
+ I was standing next to some hot girls
+ Paradise city and Nightrain was great!
+ Axl was smiling and joking all night

The negative things:
- Couldnt hear Axl voice on a lot of the songs
- There was to many solos ( I think I could have played a better solo than Finch, Richards solo was good thou)
- A really bad drum solo
- A lot of people left during the solos, hundreds of people left when Finch did his last solo before PC (I am not exagurating)
- There was some problems with the mix, could never hear Ron Thal

All in all, it was a good concert for me that is a super fan. For the casual concert goer I think it was pretty boring to listen to all those solos and new songs. Most people was sending text messages and going to the bar during them.
I hate to say this but its just the way it was.

From what I can gather from those people willing to put aside their fanboy/fangirl personas and give an honest review (and they are easy to spot here), this edition of GNR, and this tour specifically, are not going overall that well.  Maybe it's the number of solos or the mix or the number of new songs, but more than anything its the lack of any released material by this band.  They are not going to have any real substantial success (or impact) as a band until they release music and that music is well received.  Until then, all the sold out concerts in eurpoe are really meaningless.  Especially is the casual fans are leaving dissappointed.  It's a glorified cover band right now and to many of us that lived the proud history of the original band in the late 80's and early 90's, its so so sad.  They must/need to release music for that perception to change within the masses.  I'll grant you that that perception doesn't exist here in large quantity among the hard core fans, but its prevalent throughout the rest of the music listening world.

The rest of the music world is always going to find a way to out GNR down. Anyone who I've seen put in a negative review so far are pretty much people who made their mind up ahead of time that they're weren't going to like the new lineup.

It's very easy to sit back and say "this isn't going to be big" or "this isn't going to be as big as the old lineup". To actually appriciate it for what it is and have the nerve to suggest that people like Robin Finck actually fit into the GNR world and might be able to fill Slash's shoes; that's the hard part.

Common, I would't. That's good that you're confident about your guitar. I tend to think like no one can play like Robin and yet he can't play like you or other guitarists. Hope you get what I mean.

He joked about the Swedish incident all night long and took it all with a big smile. Tommy also found it hilarious. They did the entire set list except TWAT n Bedouins. He was spot on.

we all know axl can sing but we want him to drop a "single" and release an "album" because then it would not matter how he sings and no one would care if this stuff is dropped

If you're a fan you should know not to act like a fucking smartass all the time. Whats your requirement for a fan btw?

I just gave my honest opinion about the show.
Richards solo= Good
Robins solo= Not so good

I am definetly a fan, I have all their cds, I have visited this board everyday since 2002, I have over 100gbs of Guns bootlegs, I have been to 4 concerts, I have a big Guns tattoo on my arm and I can play a lot of guns n roses songs on guitar. I am always very suportive of the new band and dont want a reunion right now.
I know i mixed up the names of Robin and Richard but thats probaly since I have been in Oslo all night patying.

I wasnt talking about albums. I was talking about vocal abilities. Albums got nothing to do with that.

Jolly good! I love those oneliners.  Tell us more.

And that their, Dizzy this time, picking a tune of the country they're in is an excellent idea.

Yes, something like that. But I think he said "europeans", but I'm not sure.
european leg? :hihi:

Thanks for all of the reviews everyone, it looks like it was an awesome concert.  I also want to hear the jokes he made about the "Swedish Incident" :hihi:

I think it's great when people say things like, "I just jammed a better solo in my bedroom than so-and-so did in front of thousands of people." Really? Too bad no one heard it.

I won't debate Finck's guitar playing, other than to say that I'm a guitar player of 20 years, and when I saw them in NYC, I was fairly impressed with is tone, touch and overall execution. Of course, no one knows if I know what I'm talking about, or I'm just talking shit. On the other hand, a whole lot of people seem to think that they're better at judging guitar players than Axl Rose. Sure - why would he know anything about that? - he's not an incredibly successful musician, or anything.

I jammed a better solo than Finch did on the concert five minutes ago.? Not saying that I am better than Finch (pretty sure I am thou) I just dont like his solos.
Robins solos was alot better.

Edit: Dont get me wrong, I am one of Fichs biggest fans, and I love that he is in the band, I just dont like his solos : ok:

Common, I would't. That's good that you're confident about your guitar. I tend to think like no one can play like Robin and yet he can't play like you or other guitarists. Hope you get what I mean.

I just thought you might have mixed up the names and meant to mention both Mr fortus and mr finck in that sentence. Actually, I still do :P

No one can play like robin ,the guy screws up so many afd solos, and his solos before songs are really nothing special,, he's a good player on his own stuff, but as far as covering gnr he messes up ALOT!

i think you're talking about "sail away sweet sister" a queen cover that was used as an intro for sweet child during the illusion tour and i think is a cool song in its original form

It was "Sail Away"
Followed by Grand Funk's "Bad Time".
Axl blended 'em.

i agree dean! if robin dont want to play the songs correct and he just wants to do dumb faces and make high legs all the time, he should just play the new songs and not mess up the one the old songs. Richard and Ron would play the old songs well enuf!

you dont need to watch it.
every guitar player/singer/drummer/whatever has its own style while preforming.why should robin change his style of preforming?

music is important.not if he makes stupid face or not.that shure doesnt effect on his talent and abbility of preforming/creating songs.

I think the best bet for everyone is for cd to come out keep a slight amount of classics and act like this is an entire new band and play their own music

it's like everything is similar to old the music, seeing izzy or baz the little solos, the solo intros to certain songs... it's like enough already just be your own new group

I am only saying how I hear it.. if you're saying he is playing them differently then that is possible, but if he is trying to play them like a cover then he is messing up certain parts.. I've heard it in the long solo for scom, , and the double nr solos.. It's not just watching, I play random yotubes from whatever shows and listen and something is off.. i think he messes them up, that's just how I hear it...

robins apparently stupid face pulling is called GURNING (sp) its what happens when you put every emotion into whatever you are doing!!!

ever seen angus young play he gurns all night long !!!

or when your on a computer game and your trying really hard sometimes you pull funny faces !! (not that i play computer games, no time)

Finck puts every emotion and energy he's got into every song

i'm a guitarist and i gurn when i play its just something natural!

Basically they are allowed to use 1 photo, for 1 time only, and not reprint or sell it.

AXL ROSE On Swedish Arrest: 'They Loved Me So Much They Wanted Me To Stay' - June 29, 2006

At GUNS N' ROSES' gig in Oslo Wednesday night (June 28), frontman Axl Rose addressed the the hotel brawl that landed him in a Swedish jail earlier in the week.

"They loved me so much they wanted me to stay," he said from the stage, according to the Norwegian newspaper VG.

The song "Patience" was introduced with Rose saying, "And now something you need when rent-a-cops go bad."

According to www.side2.no, an invitation had been sent to models prior to the concert from an Oslo agency: "We're looking for models that can appear at the GUNS N' ROSES concert and the afterparty tomorrow night. You will receive VIP passes, be backstage with the band, everything free."

The models were seen being led backstage prior to the show and taken back into the audience for the concert
.

Meanwhile, Sweden's Aftonbladet is reporting that GN'R's tour manager paid the Berns Hotel in Stockholm for the damage done by Axl to an antique mirror and an old vase during Tuesday's incident.

"It was handled very professionally," hotel manager Joachim Olausson tells Aftonbladet.

Is this something new?  Since when does Axl have to "request" models?  I would imagine they would just show up to his shows and get backstage.  Isn't that how it was during the UYI tour?

I would have not only requested blonde models, but also brunettes. Infact, I would have Lindsay Lohan to get the fuck over.

VG also addressed Axl as "Scandal-Axl". Funny that since he's been sitting on his ass the last 15 years making albums and not done shit in public. But aaaanyyywaaayy....

Just got home from the gig in Oslo. It was excellent!!

Here's what I think:

The band played great, Axl was in a good mood screaming his head of the entire night! I can't understand how he does this night after night!!?? My throat was so fucked up this morning for just singing along to the songs.. :) The new songs rocked!! When I've heard bootlegs from gigs of the new songs, I must admit that I've thought; "hmm, the leaked versions are much better..") But being there in person, it totally fuckin rocked BIG time!!!! For those of you who still haven't seen them performing the new songs, you got something special coming your way!!!
Bumblefoot and Dizzy's soloes were great. Dizzy played a little bit of A-ha in his solo. That was cool!

A couple of things that i thought was bad though; they stopped selling beer when the concert started, And you had to stand in a looong line to buy beer. And then you could only buy ONE beer!
And there were too many people just standing around with their arms crossed. C'mon guys, it's rock n' fuckin' roll, loosin' up will ya!!?? Don't you know the fuckin songs?! I mean, the concert was sold out in 20 min. And with that in mind, you would think that those who got tickets would be hardcore-fans... But nooo!! The majority of the crowd only went a litle nuts when they played WTTJ, YCBM, Sweet Child... and Paradise City.

But hey, thats their loss!! (right people..?)

None of the biggest newspapers in Norway had reviews of the gig today, because of the contract that the press are forced too sign by the management. By signing they agree to only use the pictures once, in a review of that particular concert. And also signing the copyright over to the band. I can understand both sides. The band want to avoid pictures being sold and printed as bad merchandise (posters, t-shirts, etc...) And the photographers see the pictures as their creative work and they should be in complete control of the copyright.  Other bands do it this way (ex. System Of A Down)

It just goes too show that GN'R plays for the fans NOT the press!! : ok:

One thing I'm gonna do in the future though (at least try to do): stop downloading so much audio and video-bootlegs. This because, none of the pyros, explotions and stage setup came as a surprise too me. And thinking about, the show would have an even bigger impression on me. What do you guys think about that??

Kind regards,
Naltav

I thought it was cool how I knew the pyro stuff. I jumped up and timed the explosions so everyone thought I rocked.

My review is in the review section.

The ABSOLUTE worst thing about the concert was the drink-area. I stood in line to get water coz I had been drinking since 12:00 and needed something fresh and clean. They tried to DENY me the right to free water so I told the guy behind the desk he was an idiot and told him it was forbidden by law to deny people the opertunity to drink water. The guy gave in and I could pour myself 2 0.5 liters. But come on....

it was awesome!! man! i managed to sneak to the 3/4 row right before the show... then WTTJ came on and i was CRUSHED!! i mean, the pressure was so damn strong my girlfriend had to leave and i kinda missed the 3/4 first songs cuz i was more into survivng than anything! damn drunken fuckers!

hehe..

but then i went a little back and it got calmer, during the solo's and new songs i could do what the fuck i wanted and sing as loud as i could cuz not too many were singing along... then i sneaked all the way to the secund row when it calmed down. hehe

axl was not audiable all the time, but he sang good as far as i am concerned...

also, i got a new foundl ove for IRS, but i think its boring on the leak anyway... hope its better on the album!  : ok:

and, did richard play bucketheads Big bitch Hog Stomp or whatever its called as a solo? the same one bucket played RIR3?

On the note that people got crushed in front, after a few songs Axl stoppet and ask the crowd to take a few steps back, because so many people was already having problems.

Another thing I didn't see anyone mention before, at the end of the show Ron jumped down to the crowd and let "everybody" in front touch his guitar, I think he unplugged it first though.

and here is a clip from norwegian tv:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXLC3zPt3uQ

And another one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_FOEEQMwnI

Must admin though, I thought it sounded better live than on these short clips. It could be the mixing though, I had serious problems hearing Axl on some of the songs, such as PC.

Just insanity... :-\

A small cup, not even a bottle.. shit.

Ok, I wanted to reply to kiki in the other thread and to avoid going off the track there I transfer my reply to here.

By the way.... at the Oslo consert, Axl said that the bands favourite song from the new album is "Chinese Democrasy"

I think it a good news. With the title song being the band's fav, the whole album is the work after their own hearts, it seems.
Axl says you'll like at least a few songs in there.
If you find so many/all the songs amazing, you may well change your top 3  time after time.

Quote
Axl said that the bands favourite song from the new album is "Chinese Demovrasy"

good as that's the song got me first . the other day I thought the band's fav might be IRS for some reason.

In Belgium at the Graspop-festival Axl announced IRS as : 1 of your favorite internetsongs

 So I hear It's also reported that in Sweden i think, he introduced the song by noting something to the effect that the band just told him to play the song and he had no say about it.

. slash never did those actions.

Here\'s the inside scoop, buddy: Robin ISN\'T Slash, so it is irrelevant what Slash does or not.

coz if your going to replace slash then you should have someone who is close to slash style. i dont like that high legs thing/step he always does. it looks like he stepped in shit or gum! rediculous!

You should only try to replace Slash with "someone who is close to Slash's style" if you want the next best thing, but if you want to create something fresh, something new, you need to go in the opposite direction, hence, Robin Finck. And I happen to enjoy Robin's moves on stage. They're original. I wouldn't want someone up there who tried to emulate Slash. That would've been awkward and ridiculous.

And then you could only buy ONE beer!?

The band want to avoid pictures being sold and printed as bad merchandise (posters, t-shirts, etc...) And the photographers see the pictures as their creative work and they should be in complete control of the copyright.? Other bands do it this way (ex. System Of A Down)

It just goes too show that GN'R plays for the fans NOT the press!! : ok:

One thing I'm gonna do in the future though (at least try to do): stop downloading so much audio and video-bootlegs. This because, none of the pyros, explotions and stage setup came as a surprise too me. And thinking about, the show would have an even bigger impression on me. What do you guys think about that??

Kind regards,
Naltav

Great post!? : ok:

Thanks for the review, it sounds like it was a fantastic show.? Like you, I'm amazed at the way the band is able to perform to such a high standard each time - I? need a couple of days to recover and that's just from being in the audience, although I do thow myself body and soul into each one.? ?;D

I think you've got the right idea about not spoiling the surpise by downloading stuff.? I deliberately avoided the leaks because I wanted to hear some new songs live and I'm so glad I did.

I'm going to Oslo for the show on the 8th and, if your experience is anything to go by, I should be in for a brilliant time.

Just reading through this thread I noticed how much grief Robin gets...

over the years we know he doesnt play old songs properly...that is a fact

New ones are well written and he appears to play same solos consistantly...no recording to compare to.

One thing I find funny is people talking about his face pulling....I actually detest the pervy way he has Les Paul sitting on his groin and has legs spread, stepping up and down pulling faces...most disturbing :o

This is actually one of the dumbest things I've heard on this subject. Replacing Slash with some Slash imitator would be about the least respectful thing that you could do, and also the thing that fans would ultimately hate the most. Obviously, the guy has a very distinctive style and stage presence - you can't just replace him with an identical player.

I know that this is horribly off-topic, but I want to remind people that Slash could be very sloppy on stage at times. Actually, that's part of his charm - he isn't some precise shredder type - he's all about off-the-cuff blues licks. I don't think I've ever heard Slash on a live recording of You Could Be Mine that didn't have him screwing up the signature lick at the end of the solo.

It's true that you have more posts than I have. However, I have been a member here since 2002, not yesterday. The reason I don't have as many posts as you is because I don't feel compelled to bring up the same dumb shit every time I make a post. Frankly, anyone who has been here for any length of time is pretty damn sick of juvenile idiots making comparisons between the old band and the new, when what most of us want is to find out how the shows went, what they played, etc. It gets boring to point out to people that, no, actually Slash isn't the best guitar player that ever lived - he just happens to be one good one in a large group of them. I'll say again, if you don't think that the band works without Slash, then why are you even on a gnr board? He's not in the band anymore! I promise this is my last response to this stupidity.

Title: Re: Oslo, Norway @ Spektrum, 28th June
Post by: bitch_slap_rappin on June 30, 2006, 01:27:43 PM
Alright! This is my first post here...

I am a Norwegian Guns fan and have been since I was a little kid. And, as this is the Oslo Spektrum thread I'll give my views on the gig.

This was the first time I've seen GNR live, I never thought that was gonna happen as I had just grown pubic hairs when they broke up back in the mid 90s.  And it was better than I had expected really, Axl has never had a better voice from what I've heard from various live recordings over the years.

For me, the standout songs of the show were:

Rocket Queen - Axl hit all the highs perfectly and this is essential to this song because when he can do them (think... "no one needs the sorrow" etc.) it sends shivers down your fuckin' spine.

Nightrain -  in the old days, Guns played this song early on in the set and the song often suffered from that. This time around, the played it towards the end and the band was so tight and the energy fantastic.

IRS - this really rocked and was way better than the versions - live and studio -  that I've heard previously.

In addition, the crowd went nuts on Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle, which was cool and made these songs highlights to remember. YCBM is a personal favourite of mine and of course that was a highlight too.

I was a bit surprised that the crowd reception to the new songs was totally lame. It seemed only the people up front knew the songs and that just ain't good enough. I mean the tickets sold out in half an hour, I had expected more die-hard gunners and fewer dull concertgoers who were there just for the hits. But I guess this is a "problem" wherever GNR play until they release the album. All the new songs are great songs and the band  performed them well.

The band proved that they are a bunch of good musicians, and I loved Dizzy's piano solo as well as Bumblefoot's version of Don't Cry.  But I cannot understand why Robin Finck gets three guitar solos! I didn't enjoy a single one of them, to be honest. I think he's got a lot to offer musically, but not in Guns N' Roses.

I don't want a straight replacement for Slash, but Axl should be careful when selecting the songs, because during some songs, Slash's signature solos are so sorely missed. November Rain is perhaps the best example. Perfect until the solo section of the hard part at the end. Obviously, Axl cannot drop NR from the set altogether and they can't just come up with a brand new solo - that would be stupid - so I guess we're stuck with Mr. Finck's version of Slash's work.

For those who wonder what Axl said at the concert (forgive me if I heard anything wrong, its not so easy when you're in the crowd), he introduced Patience with "here's a song about what you need when rent-a-cops go bad". Before NR, he called himself an "A.W.A" - Asshole With Attitude.
Earlier on, he joked about the Sweden Incident that: "Your European neighbours love me so much they wanted me to stay there."
After the first five songs, he told the audience to move back so that the front row didn't get crushed: "Now they can finally breathe. Not that they needed to during the first five songs."
He also made some remarks about stand-in drummer Franco Ferrer, who "has played these songs 19,000 times", and "he's really enjoying ourselves".
Better: "you may have heard this song if you have been very, very bad!"

Axl reportedly ordered a bunch of Norwegian "glamour models" for the party afterwards and backstage. I don't know how this went, if there was a big party or whether he flew straight to Denmark.

The Norwegian press refused to do any reviews of the show, because Axl had them sign what they believed to be unreasonable photo contracts. Well, screw them journalists, they don't know shit and their reviews are always ridiculous anyway. This review is better than anything they would've come up with!

Cheers

My review:

So, there they where... Guns N' fuckin' Roses in Norway!

We entered the arena when Bullet had finished their set. Not that many people hade arrived yet. I guess people do know about the bands tendensy to be late, and I guess everybody going to the gig heard the rumour about Axl sleeping in the tour-bus. But they weren't that late. The lights went out just one hour later than I'd thought they be on stage.

And when the lights went out, what a feeling! It was like having sex in a rollercoaster! The adrenaline was pumping. And then the opening for Jungle came on. The place went nuts! And since I was standing closer to the stage than I did in Stockholm, it was crazy! Everybody, and I mean everybody was jumping and screaming. I even lost my voice at Jungle. Lasted all of Stockholm!

Then after the first three songs Axl gave us a little talk about how Sweden loved him so much that they wanted him to stay. He was really cool about the whole incident. He later said: "This is what happends when rent-a-cops go bad".

Axl was perfect on LALD. I tried to scream like him, but gave up after maybe one tenth of a second. Then we had a Finck solo. It turns out that people in Norway don't like solo's, but flips when SCOM gets on. But then again, who doesn't flip ehen they hear SCOM live?

After that we got to hear soe other jams and solos before The Blues came on. This song got a really good responce by the crowd! No wonder. Then surprisingly enough we got a small drumsolo by Frank Ferrer before he went into YCBM. And now the crowd was beyond crazy! Everybody was jumping and screaming. The song was like mass-hypnosis! Everybody were crazy!

When November Rain came on, almost everbody sang allong. It was well performed with Ron running all over the stage. That guy is really having fun on stage.

Then Tommy said somethings to Axl and Axl said: "Tommy has decided to play another song"! And we got RQ! A really good version aswell! Fuckin' ace!

Then the best song of the night, IRS! It was heavy and loud! Even my friednd thought it was the best song, and he only like the hits from the old days... The song was incredible! I'm shaking when I think about it! Then we were patient yet again. Patience next as almost a sing-along. Then Nightrain. Well performed, better than in Sthlm IMO.

In the encore we got Chinese Democracy. Fuckin' sweet here aswell! My Michelle surprised me. It was heavy and good. Everybody were nutsing in the crowd. Madagascar was also, as all the new songs well performed. Then the last song of the night Paradise City. It was perhaps the longest version of it I've heard. And that's a fuckin' good thing! It was unreal.

Now, a little say on each of the bandmembers:

Tommy: He was having fun and really kickin' it!
Finck: Threw his waterbottle at me, but I didn't manage getting hold of it. Damn. He is so cool. I don't know why people say he does mistakes. Not one single mistake in Oslo!
Richard: He is really energetic hitting the guitar with a force that would kill a guy.
Ron: He is brilliant! Runs all over the stage and enjoys it.
Frank Ferrer: Not one mistake. He drums chill on the jams.
Dizzy: Really good on The Blues. Got a shitload of applause after his solo!
Pitman: He was kickin' it in the back!
Axl: He was having fun after Stockholm and that was good! He is the greatest fronman ever!

UPDATE:

Well, now im finally back from my little hollyday in Oslo, and Roskilde!
This have been some great days i will never forgot!

Meet Robin:
I meet Robin! Walking through Karl Johan (Oslo`s main street) I think it was about four or five aclock
wedensday 28th.. Me and my brother had some lunch on a cafe near Grand Hotel. When i suddently saw this VERY tall guy
with a familiar face waliking down the street. Yeah, it was Robin Finck.. I was on the phone then, so i only managed to give
him the  :peace: sign, and he gave me back two! i hang on the phone, and was wondering if i should run after him, or just give it up.
He stopped, we shaked hands, and talked for a little while... i asked how the tour was going, and he said it was going good.
the time offstage, traveling etc. could be "ups and downs",  but the showtime was really great. I told him i really hoped that they would
play Chinese Democracy! (And they fucking did!

I got to see 3 of the GnR members on the streets of Oslo!  : ok:

I will upload the picture tomorrow!  : ok:

PS: For the guy, hoping i was telling the truth, i could post a pic of Dizzys signature.

Today its around 30 degrees Celsius, but in the winter its like 10-20 degrees below zero, so we deserve the heat a bit in the few coupple of weeks we have them..

nytunz you're officially a magnet.  :D Everybody, follow nytunz when the band is around.

Then the best song of the night, IRS! It was heavy and loud! Even my friednd thought it was the best song, and he only like the hits from the old days... The song was incredible! I'm shaking when I think about it!

So an old GNR fan finds one of his fav songs off CD already. Great isn't it? I love the song too.

Ok, came back from Oslo last night after a little holiday there, here's my review from the 28th..

Landed in Oslo with my brother about three o'clock, and immediately took the train into the city and set course for Spektrum. We got there around four o'clock, and a line had started to form. There's several entrances to Spektrum, so I have no idea how many people who'd gathered around the building at that time. In our line there were about 50-60 people. Now the wait started.

Close to 6:30PM they opened the doors and started letting fans in the venue. I could see that some cameras were confiscated, but I could easily have brought one in as I had a jacket with me, he just asked me what I had in the pockets. As we got inside, we decided to buy a couple of t-shirts first, and then get in front of the stage. We got a pretty good spot, dead center with just 4-5 rows of people in front of us. As we stood there a little while, we could hear that some people were really psyched and ready for Guns N' Roses, the "Axl"-chants had already started.

Bullet For My Valentine came on a bit late, around 8:45PM. At this point people were so hungry for something to happen that the crowd "almost" went nuts when they started to play. But this didn't last very long, during their set most people were just standing still, however no boos as far as I could hear. They played for half an hour and closed up at 9:15PM. Now, people were saying "one hour till Guns N' Roses".

Approaching 10PM I could already hear some people talking and speculating about Axl not showing up, but I was not concerned. My only concern was my feet starting to hurt a bit after standing still for hours. Finally at 10:25PM the intro started....

Opening chords for Welcome To The Jungle started to roam inside the venue, the crowd reaction was crazy. Everyone started to jump up and down, and when Axl screamed the famous line, the crowd screams almost drowned the speakers. What can I say, with this kind of opening I knew instantly this would be the night of my life. Axl sounded fabulous, even better than any of the bootlegs I'd heard. Robin, Richard and Ron were all energic on stage, and displayed a great presence. As usual the following songs were It's So Easy and Mr. Brownstone.

Before Live And Let Die, Axl adressed the crowd by saying "You guys have been waiting a long time, right? A really long time." The meaning being twofold (we had been waiting a while that night, and waited since 1993, having two dates cancelled in the meantime). After Live And Let Die, Robin did his guitar solo before Sweet Child O' Mine. Finck was often caught smiling during the evening, clearly in a good mood. Better was introduced the usual way, Axl talking about downloading from the internet, and calling us "naughty Norwegians". Dizzy played some bits from a-ha's "Take On Me" during his piano solo before The Blues, to great appreciation from the fans.

Frank played a drum solo at this show naturally followed by You Could Be Mine (awesome performance). After this song Axl pointed out that "Frank knows all the songs inside-out, his mother knows the songs inside-out." I also think he smashed one of the drums during the song (Axl said something in that direction). Knockin' On Heaven's Door was done the usual way. Then Richard and Robin played Beautiful, with big cheers after the performance. Axl came back to the stage saying "lawenforcements everywhere... espescially in Sweden", then starting Out Ta Get Me, which by the way were one of the strongest songs of the night.

The Piano came back out, and November Rain was next. Axl played a little solo first (Fuck The Police), and commenting: "Straight outta Sweden... I'm an AWA - Asshole With Attitude". Tommy and Axl laughed. After November Rain Axl and Tommy talked, "this next song is a request from Tommy, his new favourite song" - Rocket Queen.

Bumblefoot got the whole place singing Don't Cry, a great moment. IRS didn't get quite as much response as Better, but still a great performance. I think this will come with time, when most people start to know the songs beforehand. During Patience there were some funny moments. First, Tommy showed his theatrical skills when he mimed Axl's words (Example: "I sit here on the stairs"). Second, Tommy again.. I think his mike volume was set a bit high, so when the chours started and he started to sing, it was just as high as Axl's. Tommy, Dizzy and Ron all started to laugh. The next time they hit the chours, he had to try his way to find a good distance from the mike so he didn't drown Axl's voice.

Bumble played a stratocaster during the Nightrain solos. The band went off stage, and "Guns N' Roses" chants immediately started. The encores consisted of four songs, Chinese Democracy, My Michelle, Madagascar and Paradise City. The show was over at 1AM, a 2h 35m show.

All in all, the greatest concert I've ever been to. But it wouldn't hurt the show if they cut a couple of the solos, but we've already had this discussion...

Just reading through this thread I noticed how much grief Robin gets...

over the years we know he doesnt play old songs properly...that is a fact

New ones are well written and he appears to play same solos consistantly...no recording to compare to.

One thing I find funny is people talking about his face pulling....I actually detest the pervy way he has Les Paul sitting on his groin and has legs spread, stepping up and down pulling faces...most disturbing :o
it's his style. at least he's consistant. what the fuck is the problem with the way he moves............oh nevermind, i know-it makes for a much worse show and slash would never move that way. two words.......fuck slash. ;D

Damn, thats cool Nytunz!

My friends and I walked down the same street at 4pm that same day, had a pizza at Peppes and walked back up at around 5.
Didnt even think of the possibility of meeting any of the band members. Cool indeed.
