Title: Age of Empires 2
Post by: gnrgoblue on June 26, 2006, 09:40:19 PM
My roommate and I just bought this game with hopes of playing it over our home wireless network. Unfortunately, we're both stupid when it comes to this sort of thing, and we could really use the help of someone who can IM with me and walk us through whatever the setup process is. I think it's relatively simple for someone who knows what he's doing. We're just not those guys.

So if you can offer some help, I'd really appreciate it. Please either reply here or IM me at gnrgoblue. Thanks!

You have to do it through the website.  Is the game installed on your computer?  Have you played it yet?  If you have, it will be much easier.

It is installed, and we don't mind playing online through a server, but the game's native server was retired by Microsoft last week. It now directs to Gamespy Arcade, which charges for the use of its servers. I don't particularly feel like paying this, especially when I believe there are other options, such as using our own network or other third-party servers.

I really appreciate any feedback you can offer. This is more complicated than online gaming usually is.

*scratches head*  It's not on that server anymore?  I don't really know much about technology, or I'd be happy to help.  Hopefully someone can jump in on this thread and give us both help!  :hihi:

Yeah, it sucks. I just want to be an online gaming nerd for an evening, and I'm in over my head.

Here's the screen I get:

Age of Empires matchmaking on MSN Games has been retired ? thank you so much for playing!

We?d like to offer a big ?thank-you!? to everyone who has played and enjoyed Age of Empires and Age of Empires II on MSN Games. Some of the top players in the world have challenged each other here, and we?re proud to have facilitated those games.

As of June 19, 2006, we retired our CD-ROM matchmaking service. You can continue your online multi-player matchmaking experience through GameSpy.

If you already see the other PC IP that means you can play in multiplayer. So the first thing to do is go to multiplyer option and one of you have to be the host and the other computer have to join the game, thats it, start playing  ;D
