Title: I dont understand why we have a title track now
Post by: undercovergunner on June 26, 2006, 08:28:53 PM
AFD could have been called welcome to the jungle
lie's could be called patience because you need that with axl
ill 1 could be november rain
ill 2 could be MY WORLD (j/k) or estranged
So why do we have a title track for this album?
Why not just title it guns n roses since it is a new begining?
This all seems very different then when axl didn't have as much pull with the band, singles got released, axl still nailed bitches in the ass, slash was the mouthpeice of the band and now we have almost no info for ten+ years.
My point is that gnr is a new thing now so I think it should be self titled (opinions please)

Maybe they are touring under the band name for this reason I mean it's possible and it would shock everyone

My head hurts from reading that.

The title was inspired by the song.  Axl wrote the song Chinese Democracy and thought it would be a cool name for the album, no need to overthink it

i read somewhere that he was gonna call the album chinese theocracy.. but then he changed his mind to democracy instead of theocracy..

Well the topic may be stupid but I would still like opinions so I may entertain myself at the internets expense

I really, REALLY hate it when bands don't name their albums. It's annoying when they do it with the debut, and I especially hate it when an established band does this. If you don't even have enough creativity to come up with a name for the record, what does that say about the rest of the album? Yeah, I know, I know. New beginnings, this time we are really going to kick ass, blah blah blah. To me, it's just lame.

One exception: The White Album

Quote

That was back in 1999, when Axl appeared ready to put some music out there (Oh My God did get released on the soundtrack), and at that point the 'intention' was to release CD in 2000.

Self-Titled records are just boring titles, and it would be really confusing just calling the album "Guns N' Roses" at this point.

Sorry, I should consult you before I post another sentence containing irrelevent opinion on a gnr board fruitcake.

But the tour is labeled as gnr and not cd so they are already confusing people.

Actually Appetite was gonna be called Welcome To The Jungle until Axl saw the painting then he wanted it to be called Appetite, and the rest of the band agreed.

I was just ranting about the new more toned down axl and the soft content in the lyrics.

Some things are different in the NewGNR world... in the past the only song in which the title wasnt on the lyrics was Estranged, now we have.... all the 2002 new songs minus The Blues

How would calling the album after the original old band's name represent a new beginning? Old does not equal new, obviously!

in 2002 rhiad and the bedouins has the song title in the lyrics as well not only the blues..

"Rhiad and the Bedouins
Had a plan and thought they'd win"

see there you have it..

There was a Time
Rhiad (as someone mentioned)
Catcher in the Rye

The only ones that dont have the title are Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and Silkworms.

No he aint saying that.. the guy was talking about the songs they played live 2002,  Chinese Democracy, Madagascar, Silkworms and the blues.. he wasn't talking about the leaks.. and out of those 4 madagascar and silkworms don't have the title in the lyrics but the blues and rhiad does..

Enough people are whining about the band using the GNR name as of now, a self-titled album wouldn't go over well...

calling it "Guns N Roses" would make me think that the band is trying to convince the world that they are "guns n roses", kinda like one of those iffy girls that wear "Im too hottt to handle" type of shirts.

Keeping the name has always been in Axl's best interest, both sales and marketing wise.. : ok:

is this the same person that wondered if there would be outros?  I think Ive made like one new topic in the past year.  I always stop myself and ask myself is it really important enough to post?  and the answer for myself has been no every time.

I would prefer to think about it this way:

Before, GNR had an album without a title track

Now, GNR has a title track without an album

I would prefer the former over the later.  ;D

i personally hate most albums named after songs because its kind of stupid. unless the name is really cool like Slave to the Grind.

its not gonna change now, so this is kinda useless.

Foo Fighters have a song called The Colour And The Shape, but it wasn't on the CD of the same name.
Same goes for Blind Melon and "Soup."

I think that would be pretty cool, in a strange way.
