Title: I hope this doesn't happen to GnR
Post by: GNR4L on June 26, 2006, 01:47:41 AM
So Guns N Roses are making a comeback !!! well everyone on this message board is a huge fan right.  Well when the Album drops and they go on US Tour they will be on top of the music world.

Only problem I have is right now there is this buzz right where only the hardcore fans know about the Hammerstein Show's, Rock in Rio ect well im afraid that everyone and there brother will hop on the GnR bandwagon.  I have a feeling like the age group of 14-18 will hear the new stuff and be like OH THERE MY FAVORITE BAND I just bought Ashlee Simpsons CD now im gonna go get Chinese Democracy.

I can't stand it when you like a artist and some other guy who may have heard Welcome To The Jungle and November Rain once will all of a sudden just be like oh they rock Guns N Roses rules.  I just feel like todays music fans don't appericate good music today its LIKE OH EVERYONE IS LISTENING TO THIS BAND WELL IM GONNA LISTEN TO THEM TOO.  What do ya think ?

why does everyone get in a big fuss over this?

"the age group 14-18"

if they listen to Guns N Roses, that's cool.. let them do it!

well, it will be worse if they still prefer Fall Out Boy over GnR..

but once they start to like GnR I hope they will go deep in their research.. not like a lot of kids these days that say they love Green Day, yet they probably only heard American Idiot..

I agree.  It's kind of hypocritical to hope young kids don't get into GnR when so many of us got into GnR when we were young kids  :P

This has nothing to do with today/nowadayz.....come on, these things ALWAYZ happen....thats when trends are born/reborn ....and this is how a band goes platinum

Bring it the fuck on. Its been years since anyone outside the fan community cared about GnR.

Yeah, let's hope GN'R won't bring any new fans.  Let's hope no one else but us, the "real" fans, will like the new album.  Let's hope radio stations won't play GN'R music again, at least not the new songs.  And please, o God, please let's hope GN'R won't be able again to sell out huge stadiums, arena's, ...   ::)

Exactly. We are the only ones who should be allowed to like Guns N Roses because we have followed for years. (Nevermind, of course, that we probably got into GnR exactly like the thread creator described)

I find that people usually start out like you mentioned just liking the band becuase it's cool to like them but that passes and people soon start to dig a little deeper. They'll discover the old tunes, all the albums etc, it'll be like  "this is great what else have they done? I'll find out."  and to be honest I don't mind that.

There is alot of appeal in the old catalogue, for young and new fans alike...

Just the other day I was suntanning at the beach with Appetite on the ol' ghetto blaster, when a lady in her mid-thirties came up to me while Sweet Child O' Mine was playing and asked me if I wouldn't mind turning it up a tad because it was her daughter's favorite song...

When she left and I looked in her direction, her daughter couldn't have been more than 14, or 15.

I think the biggest mistake Axl could possibly make would be having an album of unaccessable to the average music fan, "epics" that only us diehards would ever potentially drool over... :-\

well, i am 16. i love gn'r, so so much, and no one can say i only listen to sweet child, paradise city etc. i hardly listen to them, i love the songs, but they are so overplayed, just because they are gn'rs most famous songs doesn't mean they are they're best. also, i dont like guns n' roses because everyone else likes them, most of my mates hate gn'r, they like the crap music out like slipknot and that rubbish. alot of the guys rip it outta me for liking gn'r, but i love them. when i say 'them' i don't mean the new line up, it isnt guns n' roses, its just rose. but it doesnt stop me from seeing them. i went to see adlers appetite aswell. just because i am only 16 doesnt mean i dont love gn'r any less than you.

......infact, as i am only 16, i'm pretty skint, but i saved up my money so i could see them, only 40quid, but thats alot when you have no money and no job lol

Good for you SESOR! I love seeing those young folks out there wearing GNR gear, always makes my day.

As far as I'm concerned: THE MORE THE MERRIER! And what if they are only into the hits? I can't wait to hear some decent music played on my radio, I can't wait for people to hum along to BETTER in the tube, I can't wait to see the new videos. And if kids like the new music, no matter if they take the time to look for the other 'old' songs, credit to them!

it isnt about age. just because i was born after you does NOT mean i don't have the right to appreciate great music. i check this site practically everyday. i've loved gn'r for years, not just because they're beginning to get out there again and touring. i

yeah, i agree, it's a good thing for people to listen to them. but just becuase i am young doens't mean i should be classed as someone who sticks on the greatest hits album and pretends to be gn'rs biggest fan.

sorry sesor, was that aimed at my post? You don't quite understand, I'm afraid, I wasn't being sarcastic. I was saying that I really like it when I see younger people getting into GNR, no matter if they only recentluy discovered them or if they have known about them for years. Sorry you took it the wrong way. What we've got here is a failure to communicate :hihi:

also, today's youth is needed to keep the love of good music alive. otherwise we will be lost in this sea of clone hip hop, talentless dance music and 'heavy metal loving emo's'. an iron maiden loving maths teacher at my old school used to complain about how me and my best friend should get our won music and stop stealing his. and then that it was down to our generation to sort out how bad today's music generally is. i find that quite contradictive. how can we get music that he likes out these days if we arent allowed to listen to it. music is there to be appreciated, no matter how old you are, even wether you were alive when it was out, if it's what you love and are passionate about.

Lovely! I think that is happening to GNR.
Plus those who weren't big on GNR in the last century will take a fresh look at the band this time.

Or, do you think we should buy a thousand of copies each? Is that's how the band made it in the past?

Everyone should be exposed to good music.  :peace:

I hope if they buy cd they buy the other albums and actually learn their gnr history.. Finck how was it writing the solo for scom :hihi:

Were you born a GnR fan?.....has their music been flowing through your veins since conception?

Hearing songs like November Rain, SCOM and WTTJ is what got me into them and introduced me to their full works.....

So what if GnR gain plenty of new fans?....that's a good thing!....I mean they have spent alot of money on this album....more fans = more money!

Better late than never I say....I'd actually be happy if they gained loads of new fans....show's they're still relevant outside of their fans!

fans are what keep the music alive, without the fans then there wouldnt be any guns n' roses, regardless of the old or new. the fans that have been there waiting are what have kept gnr there, but all music needs new fans to survive. also, just because person has been around longer to know about a band doesnt mean that they can dictate who can or can't listen to them.

Me and my band played all Guns song for over a years.and i heard many people says to us (younger and older) that Guns N Roses are History, out of date, and we should played new kinda song because Rock N Roll era is finished.and we should follow trends (of course they didnt know if Guns is still exist and not heard the leaks yet).and if CD comes out and they start to like new guns and call themself a ?hardcore fans.I probably punch them right in the face .

Don't get me wrong I hope GnR gets new fans and I hope they take that garbage ( Fall Out Boy)and make them go back home and think of a song where its not a whiny pop song.

Here's the deal I have these two girlfriends that are 18-19 I asked them what there favorite GnR songs where and one of them said My Michelle.  I said oh that's cool mine is November Rain and they go oh I NEVER HEARD THAT SONG !!! WHAT ok so then I found the leak to Better and sent it to them but they didn't say anything.

This is what my problem is sure they don't like it now but when everyone else is listening to it they will like it.  I want to new fans and I want GnR to become the talk of the music world but I don't want fans who have heard one song and say oh how much they love them.

i agree with what your saying, for an example i'veloved nirvana for years, they've got me through the bad times, and my brother alwya said "meh, they're ok i suppose". but now he's started goign otu and realised that all the little poepelt hat wanna seem like they're lil rockers pretend to love nirvana and he's doing the same. and it annoys me so much.
there was a girl who loved all the "dance crap" but she started goign out with this guy who loves gnr. and she's all lke "yeaaah i love them" when she only knows sweet child. and it annoys me so much that people can just pretend they love a band when they only know the main songs. my bro name dhis fish kurt ffs  yet he doenst know a thing about the dude.
what annoyed emthe most though is that, just becaus ei am young i am seen as one of those people i said above. i follow heretodaygonetohell religiously for updates.

also i cant believe someone who thinks they ilke gnr has never heard november rain :|:|

This has to be the worst post ever.

Any real fan would want the exact opposite as you. If those 14-18 year olds go out and buy Chinese Democracy it will be a huge success. If you don't have those teenagers in the states becoming fans good luck promoting an album, getting any radio & music video airplay, having a succesful arena tour and selling merchandise.

You need to realize that, that is the key market for bands to appeal to nowadays.

I mean, look at what happened with Green Day and American Idiot.

no one owns the right to decide who can or cant listne to anything. it irritates me when some people go on about gnr 2 me when they only know sweet child. but i also am glad that they do love atleat the one song, afterall, as i have said before, fans are the only thing that makes a band big.

Well being ac/dc shirts and gnr t shirts are being sold in a trendy fashion you might get the lindsey lohan paris hilton types being into it more because it's "IN"

Well put it this way they stole tons of new kid fans and tiffany fans and hair metal fans ,bj stryper poison etc... I gues the cycle continues

yeah, music in general from atm is utter rubbish. its like the only choises are...dance music from some talentless dj with some 'mc', hip hop, or bloody fall out boy and lost prophets. my faveourite music is early metallica ac/dc maiden led zep motley crue etc. and of course guns n' roses, who i would say are my fave band. yet i am 16, i am expected to like the shit out now. i think its good that younger people lisen to good music, or else the love for it will be lost.

I think if gnr can make this generation love rock n roll again that would be a great thing. Screw hating new fans, i remember when i started liking gnr(about 1989-1990) and all my older cousins would be like "you dont know shit about gnr you are a fake gnr fan" now was there a need for that? no, cause they grew out of gnr a long time ago and here i am still rocking them everyday, now i ask who is the real fan?

I'm 17... I didn't even know what GnR was till I saw my friend wear a GnR shirt... Then I heard WTTJ on San Andreas and did research on it... I learned what band made it and I was like "oh that's that band my friend had on his shirt". Then I forgot about the band... Untill I saw them on Yahoo, it was an article about the leaks so I downloaded them and really like them. That was when I got into GnR. That's my story.... If you don't like it I suggest doing what this smily is doing..  :crying:

hehe everyone has to start somewhere, and no fan can say that they alway sknew everyhting that they know about gn'r...its impossible
also:
some people only like the well known ones, either it develops and they love the band as much as we do, or it doesnt, but they'll always appreciate the music. which is enough. people cant see gnr as some "special unknown band" becuase it isnt, you cant love one of the most well known rock bands ever and expect there to not be people out there that just like the odd song and call themselves fans.
i've said this like 5 times, but i feel strongly about it, i love gnr so much, and just because i am young i shouldnt be seen as one of those people that are 'fake fans'. everyone enjoys the music on a certain level, appreciating the talent of the band is enough for some.
