Title: Pregnancy, serious question :
Post by: Jessica on June 21, 2006, 05:47:50 PM
Can doctors get it wrong, dates wise ?

I mean, is it possible to be pregnant almost 10 months ?

It's a very serious and important question.

So two weeks more is possible ? like a 9 and a half months ?

But then, is it possible doctors date it wrong ?

I've seen the opposite happen... my nephew was born a month and a half early but weighed 8.5 pounds (or 3.86 kilos  ;D).  So his mother thinks that for him to have been that heavy, the doctor must have screwed up the due date.

Yeha -- this is possible.

My friend was pregnant almost 10.5 months!! ?The doctors suspected they had made a slight misteak... but she was admitted to hospital and the baby brought on.

Dont fret -- dating can never be perfect (says mum from the other side of the office)

The doctor doesn?t give wrong dates, the girl gives the ?missed? (who? really knows the exact date), then the doctor minuses 12 weeks to get the due date (girl says missed date was mar 15, so doctor says dec 22 due date)
Back to the 10 months thing
40 weeks is usual gestation, If people think that there is only 4 weeks in a month, you can say pg for 10 months. (but most months have 4.5 weeks, so you get 9 months pg)

Did that help?

yes, you all help, although ...well..nothing.

I don't think wrong is the right word. They have the tools to make a very well educated guess, unless it's a Cesarian, where they'll schedule the day and time of birth.

doctors could get the dates wrong. my brother was born 1 month late although my mother went to the doctor 9 months pregnant but he said that she's not due to give birth then. so when she went a month later he realised he made a mistake.
staying in mother's belly for too long is not recommended as far as i know but my brother is ok so it's probably not true

Now i know why the end of my pregnancy was so difficult towards the end, i couldn't breathe anymore and at " 7 and a half" months, i had contractions and i had to stay at the hospital overnight, they stopped the contractions thinking it was too early ?

But in fact, it could have been an 8months,  meaning i really hurt myself going to 9 months and 1 day, because it was probably more and i understand now why it's taken so long to heal.

Ive read stories about 10 months, like undeveloped lungs, instead of inducing they wait which makes it last longer

Anyone need help getting prego, just asking is all :peace:

yes, i came out after 11 months seriously. My nephew was born after 3 weeks. But if it's too too long see a doctor. I have read some sad stories but i wont tell you them so you dont get insecure.

That's not true if you had a sonogram.

My oldest was born 1 month before his due date, but everything was fine and we even went home 24 hrs after he was born.

Wasn't it Neron's mother who had him in her for over 10 months ?

Title: Re: Pregnancy, serious question :

well 40 weeks is the full term

That's not true if you had a sonogram.

My oldest was born 1 month before his due date, but everything was fine and we even went home 24 hrs after he was born.

depends on your doctor, some prefer to track it as close to conception as possible and go that way others prefer sonogram measurments...anyway a sonogram (I'm assuming its the same as an ultrasound) is also only approximate, they measure averages to approximate age.

anyway jessica the baby comes when he/she is ready don't matter how many tests you get....some births are more difficult than others is all, I know some people who were in labour for 30 hours others for like 20 minutes...sorry your still hurtin, that sucks :'(

to everybodya sayin their borthers and sisters were like a month late and stuff....nowadays the science is much more precise....very rare to be that far off from what I've seen....I was a month "late" btw...my mom was like "get it the fuck out  "

Title: Re: Pregnancy, serious question :
Post by: Cornell on June 22, 2006, 10:44:30 PM
Yeah an ultrasound is the same thing.  I know it's not exact but not THAT far off.  I had one done 1 week before my son was born and they told me then that it would be another 5 weeks.  I was pretty glad that I didn't have to wait that long!

I don't think that here in the states they let people go a month past their due dates.  I know several people who were induced when they were 2 weeks past it.

Yeah i know they are pretty close...but the way they determine it...at least for my daughter...(20 mos old now ;D ) was the doctor asked when the last menstural cycle was...and they he determined a due date from that...then when we had the ultrasound they determined that we were a week farther along than that...however our obstetrition later told us that we were actually back to the orig date based on the orig diagnosis...so it was messed up and we were pissed to wait another week :hihi: anyway the baby was breach and too big so they ended up doing a cesarian...born 9lbs, 9oz...anyway after she was born we didn't care too much about the correct due date anymore... ;D

I don't think that here in the states they let people go a month past their due dates.? I know several people who were induced when they were 2 weeks past it.

here (in canada) if you go overdue by a week they induce, waiting longer is pretty rare...but anyway full gestation is 40 weeks (approx 9 1/2 - 10 months anyway), so 10 months, i don't think, is too long to be preggers...like mikeg said...better late than underdeveloped :nervous: besides you get to have fun trying to naturally induce labour :D

I was induced for 3 reasons :

1) gabriel was sideways right under my tits, very high up, would not come down
2) i could not deliver him, i am too small inside for his size
3) he was overdue

For the last 3 weeks, i kept fainting quite a lot, i even fell twice, because i could not breathe ? ( due to gaby sitting under my tits)

did you have gestational diabetes? that is a common cause for large babies (and that happened in our case and also prolly contributed to the miscalc of the age)...also it can be identified and controlled easier for the next child if you have another. my daughter had the same prob...too big to turn and drop...thus c-sect

how big was Gabriel?

I did, but was diagnosed past 7 months of pregnancy.

Gabriel was about to become a past 4 kilos baby, but a month before, i was ordered to eat greens and fish to try and stop it, so he was born at 3.55 kilos, still, he had large shoulders ( he is a MANLY little one)

yeah we were diagnosed at about 8 1/2 months...it was too late to do anything...I think 9lbs, 9oz is the same as 4.33kg ??? which was my daugthers birth weight...when a freind of mine gave birth she had all kindsa troubles too...episiodomy and hemoraging and stuff.... and her boy was born about 8.5lbs (3.85 kilos?) and he was sitting properly (head down and facing back) unfortunately some births are just difficult.

here is a pic of my girl btw ;D (she's my little moo-shoo, my nick name for her :hihi: )

Yes you can have 10 month pregnancies.  Most women do 40 weeks but another two weeks is not unusual.  I have known women gone longer.  My sister is a health visitor and she says anything from 81/2 - 10 months is acceptable although it is considered dangerous for a baby to be born so late.  Apparently Goldie Hawn had a ten month pregnancy with Kate her daughter.

back to the question, no i dont think it could be almost 10 months. sonogram will tell u almost to the exact day.
