Peeps, what are your opinions on System of a Down?

What a fucking shit way to start a thread, and an awful way to continue it.

Anyway. I thought that the self titled fucking ruled. It had such great songs on it, and at the time I really enjoyed it. However when Toxicity I couldn't really get into it so much, and as much as I enjoyed it, it didn't convince me enough to buy the third (the B-sides etc). I heard it, and liked it, but I just didn't really want to buy it.

But on the whole, I think that they are a great band, have some kick ass songs, and would still fucking love to see them live.

They're okay. Nothing that stays in my cd changer longer than a couple of weeks.

Which song is that? I downloaded song Zelda song a while ago but it said it was Mike Patton...it better not be System of a Down...I feel dirty.

I enjoy them their studio albums can get a bit boring and repetative after a bit but i can still find enjoyment in them if i give them a break.  I believe they are one of those bands who are much better live, they create so much energy and are one of the best live bands i have seen.  They aren't just noise either.....that would be Slipknot

SOAD  is one of the few Nu-Metal  bands I like.They rock!Plus, I think Daron Malakian (SOAD guitarrsit) is very talented is one of the  most talented Nu-Metal guitar players.

I personally wouldn't call them 'nu-metal' myselfl they're more original and have lots more talent than most of the metal bands over the recent years.

I dont really dig SOAD its just jumbled noise to me although I do like the intro to Chop Suey that song isn't bad at all but other than that I cant get my head around it

I truly think they are one of the worst bands I have ever heard. My roommate freaking loves them and plays their stuff all the time, and the songs are absolute shit. In my opinion, of course  ;D

Anyone heard any material of this album, just caught BYOB(what does that stand for?) and fucking love it!

 B.Y.O.B. is a really good track and the other track I heard called Cigarois really good to .So it should be a really good album.

I must say I?m "mezmerized".....so far I can say it is their best album so far, got it yesterday. As you can expect, all the usual suspects are involved: fast riffs and beats, dark and "clownish" songs/moments, political content etc.... however there?s some new/different stuff that are new I guess, on track 10 "Old School Hollywood" there?s a synthetizer(however you spell that) that reminds me of the intro to Limp Bizkit?s Chocolate Starfish, and Daron Malakian(guitar) sings more on this record that on their previous efforts. Great album overall.

cool i cant wait to get that album. toxicity is my favourite so far followed by the self titled. it would be hard to top those albums.

Just picked it up at a lunch break and I would rate it very highly.  I think that it continues the natural evolution of the band.  I have heard that Axl is fan, I wonder how much of their sound influence will be on the album?

yeah they try to be weird/funny on some songs, but its still brilliant

great band indeed. got really into them with the albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize. particularly mezmerize is an fantastic album!

It's kinda sad to see these guys putting out the music that their record company is telling them to do instead of doing their own thing. It is evident that Hypnotize/Mesmerize are different and more commercialised than their first 3 CDs. Don't get me wrong, Hypnotize/Mesmerize are still great albums and much better than most of the Top 40 stuff nowadays. I just wish they wouldn't have sold out and were still producing the same old stuff. But then again, I guess they wouldn't be as successful as they are nowadays.

I don't understand the fascination with these guys, The singer is terrible and never sings on key, at least not on any of the tracks I've heard.

I don't understand why everyone thinks they are "selling out" and whatnot, in my opinion they are just evolving. If anyone has listened to all their older albums, there are still plenty of songs with mass appeal. What was so WILD and CRAZY about songs liek Aerials, or Toxicity...they were just good rock songs.

The new albums are much more about the music than about funny vocals and whatnot. There are still some songs like that, however. (that My Sweet Revenge song on the Mezmerize album for instance) The only complaint I have is that it seems like Serj doesn't get to sing enough on it. I love Daron's voice too but I do miss Serj on lots of tracks. He is better than just singing backup. However, Lost in Hollywood is a great song and Daron does a great job, and Serj's backup vocals compliment the song perfectly.

However it is absolutely stupid to say they are just putting out music that the record company wants them to put out because they have never been like that, and there is just no real evidence of it being like that right now either.

SOAD Rule!  No other band in metal today comes close to them.  They have gotten better each album.

I agree all my friends hate the new album but i luv it its like more mainstream but thats soo cool

Honestly, i was excited to give these guys a listen because their CD cover looked like the Hollywood sign (i used to live in hollywood and visit when i get a chance. i love Hollywood!). I cannot stand this dude's voice! When i listen to most of their music i actually have to stop myself from laughing -- to me it's almost like the music is a joke. A bad joke. Musically, i think it's ok, but i just cannot take Serj's voice seriously. :hihi:
