Title: Smoking cigars
Post by: mikegiuliana on June 15, 2006, 03:23:57 AM
Do you think after a long time of smoking them this might hurt his voice (throat) I don't know how many he smokes per day or how long he's been doing it, just saying throat cancer is a side effect of cigar smoking.. Hope god it never happens, just wondering with how he sings if it will affect his voice and recovery time from show to show./.. he sounds great now, talking a bit down the road..

well I am smoking a cigar or 2 a week (I know, I know... Axl does it more oftenly :P) and it doesn't have any effect on my vocals as cigars are not inhaled... while I was smoking (or if I have a cigarette now) my vocal goes higher immediately... right after first cigararette. I get thi kinky high gay pitch (maybe it is just mi :hihi: )... so I doubt cigars have any impact on his voice...

I know you shouldn't inhale cigars but some smoke gets down there and some wackos do inhale..
Plus he did smoke cigs for a long time... Of course things affect everyone differently.... Either way it's terrible for your mouth n throat..I remember when jack klugman got throat cancer from cigars (odd couple)..

axl sings so good BECAUSE of the cigars!

I really think one of the reasons Axl switched from cigarettes to cigars was to preserve his singing voice.

If he doesn't inhale the smoke directly into his lungs, I really cant see it doing any damage, but a professional singer on here may know different...

I quit smoking cigarrettes over a year ago do to my vocal chords becoming too stressed.  However, cigars do not bother me vocally at all, and I smoke cigars rather frequently.  The smoke from a cigar doesn't get close to the vocal chords.

There's more than just lung cancer as an negative consequence of cigars, Mike.  You can get jaw cancer like baseball players who chew tobacco, too.

As long as he's not smoking cigarettes, an occasional cigar is alright, so long as he doesn't inhale and it is occasional.

Any kind of smoking puts tar on your vocal cords which helps for the rasp. It just depends on the person singing, will it help or not? I would guess it works well for Axl, ;) ;) otherwise that motherfuck wouldn't be smoking.  :hihi:

What's funny is you people think its just a cigar. Axl is a blunt man. There is some of the finest greens inside that thing.

"Any kind of smoking puts tar on your vocal cords which helps for the rasp."

Bullshit. Cannabis is tar free baby.

Bullshit. Cannabis is tar free baby.

That's right.

Unless I burn 2 or 3 blunts in a row, herb never hurts my vocal chords.

Does anyone think its kind of ironic how Axl is the only one of the new lineup that actually smokes, while the whole original lineup used to smoke, and often together a la November Rain Music video... :hihi:

That Beta inteview about Axl not smoking is from 2001.
We are in 2006.

Axl does still smoke cigarettes.? He only shows the cigars though on camera as it is all hype/PR.

Axl has been sued, under stress, and a lot of other things caused him to smoke again.? But with everything Axl does, he does it in moderation.

Just because there aren't any photos of Axl smoking cigarettes, don't think he doesn't smoke.

dolphin,

Have I seen Axl smoking?? No.

However, I base my opinion on his lifestyle.

Some on here think Axl goes home after a gig and eats his oreos and milk and think he's clean and sober yet there are pictures out there of him partying down and drunk as hell.

People are way too naieve when it comes to Axl Rose.? And just because Beta said something back in 2001 does NOT mean it holds true to today.

The cigar photos are IMAGE/PR.? I highly doubt Axl will light up a cigar if he's stressed.? He's more opt to light up a Marlboro.

He's touring again, he's out partying, he's back to his old habits...because old habits are hard to break and easy to fall back into.  Check this picture out to see a trashed Axl Rose

But Axl does everything in moderation....or so he claims in interviews (past).?
I hope Axl parties with moderation.  If not, I can see this whole tour imploding very soon.

Why do you think he wears sunglasses on stage all the time...for image or because all the partying hurts his eyes and causes him to be sensitive to light?

Figure it out. : ok:

For image - I'm sure he's not going on stage hung over. One thing that definitely dries out your vocal cords and will definitely screw a performance is too much booze. If he was partying so much that his eyes couldn't stand the light, there is no way that he'd be running around and singing the way he has been doing. That's not naivete, that's obvious common sense.

Dolphin, your assumptions on him smoking cigarettes are unfounded.  I quit smoking cigs over a year ago, I party pretty hard, and get stressed.  But I will never go back to smokes.

But of course he's going out and getting wasted and high.  As long as it's in moderation, who cares?

Just because that option worked for you doesn't mean it worked for Axl.

Your assumptions of him NOT smoking are also unfounded.

You need to remember that Axl is also manic depressive and bipolar1.

He's not going to see the world in the same light as you or I would.

Somethings are easier for those who are not manic depressive or bipolar to deal with such as the everyday stresses of life.

I honestly believe Axl smokes cigs when he's stressed out and then quits...just as he drinks and parties in moderation.

If you don't think that fine...but that is what I think. :peace:

Axl looks like he'd smell very nice and takes personal hygene very seriously.

Too bad he'd reek of smoke...cigar or cigarettes.  To me, that is a turn off.
