Haha, I just heard about this on the MTV Movie Awards, which sucked by the way :hihi:

Anyway, I saw and read some shit about it.. FUCKIN' FUNNY! Don't know if anyone knows who Borat is... he's a character on "Da Ali G Show" which aired on HBO for like 3 or 4 seasons but has ended, anyway now Sacha Baron Cohen is making a movie using the Borat character. Borat is funny, but I don't think the character can carry a whole movie... The thing that works so well about Da Ali G Show is the contrast between Borat, Ali G & Bruno.  You get a small dose of each before the humour wears off.

They have had some reviews from the screening of the movie and most people said they came into it with that same thought but after seeing it were surprised and pleased because he pulls it off. The basic premise of the movie is that Borat is leaving his country of Kazikstan(sp?) to venture to America and find out our customs, while he is here he see's "Baywatch" and becomes obsessed with Pamela Anderson :hihi: The movie follows him as he searches for her, and surprisingly she is included in the movie as he finally finds her, heres some of what was said on FOX about this movie...

Anderson, by the way, becomes the Holy Grail of ?Borat,? and it?s hard to say whether she is in on the joke or not. I suspect she is not, as Borat?s journey across America to meet her is a sly and disturbing take on celebrity stalking that should only make personal bodyguards become more popular.

Armed with a picture book about "Baywatch," Borat is determined to meet the object of his fantasies.

When he does, all hell breaks loose as he literally throws a burlap sack over Anderson?s head and carries her away from a book signing.

Who knows what she thought was going on? You hope she was clued in, but it?s more than likely she wasn?t.

That whole interview is hilarious... it's easily the best of the Bruno character. "So what you are saying is that it is ok for me to admire a man in the shower, but once I put his penis in my mouth, some sort of line is being crossed?"

Thought i'd wake this thread up as we approach the hugely anticipated release of what may well be the most shocking, crude, controversial yet gut wrenchingly hilarious film of all time. The film is out on November 3rd UK (and US i think). I have been watching borat for years on the ali g show in the uk and then on dvds form the us show. He is easily the funniest of sacha baron cohen's 3 genius characters and this movie will be amazing. I have yet to read a bad review since it first aired at Cannes and then the Toronto film festival earlier this year. Empire magazine has given it 5 out of 5 stars (in comparison it gave something about mary and american pie 4 stars). FYI there are now 4 deleted scenes (non spoiler) from the film circling the internet, the funniest of which is one where he goes to the doctor to discuss his STI's!, including herpes he got from his sister! They apparently shot upwards of 600 hours of footage for the film and the first cut of the movie was 6 hours, they have got it down to 82 minutes so the DVD could see the most extra footage in history. Anyway if you have a sense of humour and can take a bit of controversy I cannot stress enough how much you should go and see this film.

Oh, if you are a woman, a gypsie, a homosexual or especially a jew you should take extra cover!!!

Sacha Baron Cohen does all pre-movie interviews in character. He very rarely does interviews as himself but when he does you will find he is a very intelligent man with a history degree from Cambridge.

Yes that was shit for the very reason Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakstan (to give it's full title) won't be. Cohen took Ali G away from his comfort zone, i.e. interviews and altercations with real people and attempted to make him into a 3 dimensional charater. Borat is keeping the same essential aspects of what makes him so funny in the show and expanding it. The film is real interviews/meetings with people who don't know what is really going on laced together with authentic acting sequences which make up the films plot.

He really shoudn't appear on Johnathan Ross, the dudes jokes will just be reduced to 3rd, or 4th rate if that happens.

saw the movie at a press screening in paris, very funny.

The movie is 84 minutes long. And critics are already claiming it's one of the funniest films ever made. Go look it up on RottenTomatoes.com or IMDb.com.

the movie is pretty much very short tv skits one after another with a sorta story.

it is funny.
it is raunchy (naked wrestling scene with his fat producer is distrubing)

not something you watch several time tho.

There is now a 22 minute press conference online, it is non-spoiler and very funny.

Also amazon (and other retail outlets) have the official Borat Soundtrack available for preorder, the soundtrack includes the now infamous Throw The Jew Down The Well!

Also online some actual clips from the film have snuck out, these are NOT deleted scenes like the previously seen clips, one of them is the entire opening sequence (on youtube) and another is an absolutely hilarious scene where he visits an antique dealer.

I have watched them a) because im very impatient and b) so at least there will be some points in the film where I can catch my breath, I heard one review on radio one the other day that said 'I was praying that the next scene wouldn't be funny because I was hurting so much from the previous one(s)'

Yeah, that scene (which is actually in the film) is very different from the others in terms of the type of humour. Almost farcical like Manuel in fawlty towers yet still totally authentic, brilliant!!

I think its hilarious how people moan and whine about how it ''offends'' this group and that - when it should be obvious to all that the film is far more about America's bigotry and ignorance than Borat's.

And that my friend is the point, and the reason why Sasha Baron Cohen is a fucking genius (special mention to Larry Charles who helmed the film and of course Ken Davitian who is brilliant as Azamat.

I built myself up for the film so much and knew so much about it that I was always bound to be slightly underwhelmed, however this is still the funniest thing I have ever seen both the unscripted and scripted parts were incredible, just a shame we will probably never see Borat again due to his high profile.

ah the scene where he's asking how hard he needs to be going to guarentee he kills someone in the Hummer - and the salesmen happily explaining it - classic, just classic

Shame so much of the film was scripted - the driving lesson: when u have a camera built on the front of the car for certain scenes...and not in others, ya know, i'm guessing the instructor might have had a clue....maybe, ya think

... Not really. If they told the driving instructor that they were filming for a documentary type report program, which they clearly were, then of course there would be cameras fitted inside the car. The guy would probably have signed the release before they started.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the guy falling off the horse at the rodeo wasn't scripted, and I thought that was one of the most blatantly 'scripted' things in the movie when I first saw it.....................

my mate actually is from kasakstan and he loves it....

the only two actors who were scripted besides Borat were his manager and the prostitute, everone else did not know it was a spoof.  the camera onthe dash was set up and they told the guy it was for the TV show ('im assuming).  you would be able to tell if it was scripted or not.  I don't think it was.  even the finale in the music store is supposed to be totally UNscripted.  hysterical movie.

i heard the other day that Sacha Baron Cohen has signed a deal worth $42million to film a 3rd movie based around his other alias, Austrian camp interviewer Bruno!

wont be as good as borat but will probably be better than Ali G In Da House

the amount of money is just too crazy i think, but if he would do a bruno movie i hope it's gonna be the same way as the borat movie and not like the ali g in da house, AGIDH is a fun movie but yeah

The film has far exceeded predictions and expectations in the states, going straight to the top of the box office charts (it was expected to hit 3rd-5th) This is despite it opening in half as many theatres than the Santa Clause 3.

As for what was and wasn't staged, i'm pretty sure that the 'jew house' scene and the signing scene were both staged.

Great movie. I was afraid I would be disappointed after all the hype but that was not the case. I laughed practically the whole movie. Definitely need to see it again.

The Bed and Breakfast scene was scripted as there are a few continuity errors in it. The book signing was also staged. The rodeo scene made the news the next day, if he really tried to kidnap Pamela Anderson it would have made the news for sure.

Two of the three 'frat guys' in the trailer truck are sueing SBC/FOX due to the embarrasment they have suffered thanks to the movies us release.

I can understand people suing Sacha.

I mean if I signed a waiver and appeared in a movie thats gonna gross over 200 million and I only got paid 200 bucks, I think id want a bigger piece of the pie as well.

So I finally went to see this movie yesterday. It did disappoint me a bit but only because I?d read so many reviews, watched so many clips and heard so much about it that I knew most of the jokes beforehand! I wish I hadn?t, but how could I, if everybody is talking about it? Nevertheless, it is very funny. I don?t get people that won?t go and watch it claiming that it?s ?racist, sexiest and blah blah blah"! It?s a parody of American society; like someone on a newspaper review said (I don?t remember who): ?It?s like Michael Moore but in comedy?.

The rodeo, when he asks for a handgun to kill Jews, the drinking session with the frat guys? hilarious! The naked fight? yeah? disturbing? :confused:

Now what I?m looking forward to is the dvd with the extras.

I have a question: the signing thing, was that staged? Did Pamela know what was going on? Cos she sure looked scared?

i think alot of it was staged, which kinda sucks. but even the Pam scene was great, which obviously was staged. the horse falling wasn't even necessary. not funny at all.

I think what it's going to come down to is the wording of the release.  Typically, they state that the producers, etc have the right to use the footage at their discretion, so even though these people were misled, they won't have a case because a judge would say you knew the footage could show up anywhere, and that includes an american audience. 

i don't think they're pissed about the money... i think they're pissed about how many people saw them looking stupid.  no one would really expect more money unless you have a stake in a film and are getting in on the backend of a movie deal.  it would be as if you were an extra in Mission Impossible 3 and expected a lot of money just because the movie made hundreds of millions of dollars. 

Really great film, Definately one of the funniest things you'll see.

I think some had to be scripted, the Pamela Anderson bit definately imo, had that been real I think her security would have broken his legs, if it wasn't scripted she needs new security :hihi: They were crap, he chased her through a music store and into a car park before they caught him.

It will be released on DVD, most likely after the awards season is over.  As of now, no date has been announced for the DVD. There are still 5 countries that haven't had the movie open yet according to IMDB, the last being Italy on March 2nd.

Yeah same here, I'm really kind of not so happy with the lack of special features....(the deleted scenes are fucking hilarious though, especially the dog kennel, grocery store and massage.)
