Post by: peter on June 08, 2006, 02:56:02 PM
I guess we should use the word FANTASTIC... axls voice, looks, jokes, the band, the crowd, fuck even media is becoming positive, quite scary isnt it... i see chinese democracy becoming a fuckin MONSTER

So far their 11 shows deep, off to a fantastic start.  What was it like in 01 when they showed up at new years then off to rio, then again at the end of 01, to the beginning of the 02 tour  compared to now?  What were the fan reactions like? media reactions? band attitute?

I think it's more accurate to say that the media has been very divided as opposed to solely positive.  As long as Axl makes it to every show and sounds good, I don't think us GNR fans can really ask for anything more.  He is Axl fucking Rose.

to answer your question......it feels like night and day imo. 2006 is the start of something really powerful.

i think it has been hit and miss so far, more hits than misses though. if the band keep turning up, and go on a max of 30 mins late that would be great!

So far, so good...a phenominal showing so far.  Fingers crossed that all stays good in camp GnR, and that the album is soon to follow.

I am quite curious to hear from the fans who saw them in '02 in regards to how they compare on the current tour - energy, performance, chemistry on stage, etc....thoughts?

To me it seems the chemistry and the mood of the band is way better than the last tour.  They are really enjoying playing the new songs too, they are definitely loving that.  Axl seems to be in an awesome mood, very happy lately!  All the signs I have seen have been good!!

So far.........

*** THIS HAS BEEN AMAZING ***

Axl looks and sounds great, the band is slammin'

The new songs are going to KILL on democracy....

** Everything should fall right into line....and what are we really expecting anyway......lets not think we're going to get taken back to 1989 when GnR were everywhere.....they will RULE mtv and vh1 for awhile, we'll get some awesome videos, some KILLER singles like Better, and they will tour....then it will shut down, for who knows how long....lets just enjoy it....

imagine it was 2004 and NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING was happening.....im soooo happy right now with the way GnR is progressing, and the fact that axl is soooo happy and out in public. its their time to shine!

Tour recap :  NO RIOTS THUS FAR.    As long as this bad completes every schedule date   it's Mission accomplished.   Bad reviews will always be there  because of the past , but as long as GNR plays every gig  and entertains the concert goers  they will be fine.  Hopefully Axl will try to get on stage a little earlier the rest of this tour,  it wouldn't hurt.

This is where I disagree.  I think we should want more from the band.  I went to 3 of the 4 NY shows and I had a great time, it was incredible seeing them onstage...  but I definitely want and EXPECT more of the band than what I saw the next time around.  A part of me was and still is a little dissapointed about the setlist and I am hoping that will change.

The US doesn't want to hear this setlist. Im burnt out on it you can only listen to them songs so much and its like uhhhh. Im sure the band is kind of sick of playing it they want to show off what they all done not playing other ppls stuff. Axl must be paying them all good otherwise I don't think anyone would have stuck around this long but like I said who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Once we get an official single its on! 02 everyone was talking shit about Axl it was bad bad bad for him and the band.

Like I said he better have atleast 3 amazing songs on this album that will blow ppl away. I gaurantee there will be just the waiting sucks. Better is great but isn't gonna cut it for a 1st single.

How many times have they played TWAT?

Twice Im pretty certain...

May 12th, NYC

and May 25th in Madrid, Spain

So far, Better has actually been the only new song next to the Blues and Maddy that hasn't fallen out of the setlist even once : ok:

I dont know man, I could personally do without hearing Better or IRS one night if it meant hearing TWAT.

They really should use that track as an encore, either before or after Paradise City would be amazing : ok:

I just saw the video and I think, TWAT is not a good live piece.

Don't get me wrong, I love the song, really - from all leaks its by far my personal favorite. But I think the soundstructure is to complicated to work on stage. It's just a loud mess with a guitar in front and random "there was a ti-aaame"-screams from Axl. The artistic excellence of the song seems not to work on stage - or at least yet.

Maybe that's why they skipped it.

But on the other hand, what do I know. And I have no idea how November Rain or Estranged sounded the first few times.

Interesting point man. As far as November Rain goes, people were kind of stumped by it at first, especially considering it was being played when the only records out were AFD and Lies.

I dont think they ever played Estranged live before releasing UYI. I remember hearing an interview from the time when they were recording UYI and Axl was talking about a new song they had in the works to rival November Rain. I assume he was referring to Estranged in its early days.
