Title: To shred or not to shred...
Post by: grog mug on June 08, 2006, 02:04:51 AM
The new band is great.  I went to the may 12th show and it blew away everything I've ever been to (except Vegas 01).  But I do miss one thing as I'm sure you all do.  I"m not going to turn this into a Bumblefoot vs. Buckethead topic, but Bucketheads shredding on IRS/Better is GREAT.  I mean Axl's vocals fit his guitar work perfectly.  I just hope Bumblefoot can pull through and pull off some crazy FAST shredding solos.  But the question is should the new GN'R continue to go NON-shred or bring back the Buckethead style guitar solos?

I've never been a big fan of the shred.  The IRS solo, for example, is too fast on the demo.  I like the slower, melodic ones.  Give it to time to see what BF can do.  But, I guess I really don't care how the solo is done as long as it sounds great.

I like the fast shredding solos Bucket did. Bumble can shred, but his shredding just doesn't have the melody that Buckets had. Bucket was irreplacable, I just hope Axl leaves his stuff on the album. I saw the band on May 12th also, and I saw their Tacoma show in 2002. I feel sorry for the people who insult Bucket but never saw him play. I still love the new band but they sounded better with Bucket.

i also loved buckethead's style with guns but i definitely prefer the melodic guitar solos.  I think there is room for some shredding type stuff that Ron could add but i hope its not in every song. sometimes some of the older tunes have shredding where there really shouldn't be any.

I am happier with buckethead gone. ?His image might not have allowed this band to get a fair shake. ? Remember that buckethead is playing on demos , Bumblefoot is playing them live , so you don't know how Ron's playing would sound on a demo or album. ? The band ?has a more rock n' roll look and feel to it now , ? Buckethead made them a freak show circus. He had to go .

The only thing good about Bucket being in GN'R was his solos. Ron can fucking rip,and doesn't look like a fucking tool doing so. And yes I seen Bucket with Guns in 2002.

i think that buckethead was and is talented...

and I don't think he brought a "freak show circus" to the band-- the new GNR was a motley crew to begin with, so buckethead didn't seem out-of-place amongst a mish-mash of musicians. i mean, let's be honest, isn't ron's bumblebee-foot shaped guitar just as "freakish"?? i think that they both look like tools onstage with a bucket as a hat and an odd-shaped guitar...

i don't know who's a better guitarist for the new GNR...but I think it's unfair to eliminate one simply because of his image...the appearances of both guys are a point of ridicule in my opinion

The shred is horrible, and this style is absolutely not made for GNR type of guitar playing.
Guns N' Roses has always been about the Rock, the bluesy element, the feeling, the attitude, not about playing 10.000 notes per second without heart and soul like a robot. It's pointless, it sounds bad and it's boring. It's ugly to listen to.

Personally, i hated to hear the AFD solos shredded during the 2002....sure they sounded fine, but  :crying: :crying:
come on now.....ever hear anyone shred the solo to Stairway to Heaven??  Wonder why?

The new stuff....shred the solo's all you want
