Ok, so I also like Pearl Jam and I am a member at their board.  So I was curious as to what folks who don't obsess over GNR thought about the new songs (actually, just Better).  So i gave them the song to listen to....and well, check out the results for yourself:

I gave 'Better' to 4-5 people in my class, who don't like GN'R, and they were thrilled!! They absolutely dug it! Now they're asking when the record I've told them about (CD) is gonna come out and stuff! Its pretty awesome!!  : ok:

                   I actually think I.R.S is a better song than " Better " personally. It has a lot of in your face that G'n'R used to be.

I personally think Better (aside from a CITR, if it were better quality) is the best of the new leaks, but also, I showed them this song because it has the best quality of any of the leaks.  It really shows off Axl's voice.  Apparently ppl are impressed, as they should be.

my experience with introducing people to Better is, the very first time they hear it they think its just fucked up because of the intro and don't bother to listen to the rest of the song. but when i get people to listen to the whole thing, the love it.

Man even when I first downloaded Better I thought it was fake because of the intro :hihi: But as soon as the vocals kicked in I knew it wasn't.
Most of my friends don't actually even like GN'R but they dig this song.

Better and TWAT are both instant classics  : ok:

I reckon ditch the mid section BH solo and Axls screaming "I never wanted you to.. " part. You ?might have a rock single on your hands then, otherwise its too complex

The screaming part is essential! Perhaps edit the musical parts around that though if anything.

i hated that part at first but it just grew on me.

Perhaps essential to the album version, but for a single I think not. This is the weakest part of an overall solid vocal performance I feel.

I feel if Better is released as a single, there'll be a radio edit for poppier stations with the screaming part edited out, and then normal rock radio would play the part with the screaming in (album version.)

I disgree, i am really impressed with that note. Whenever i play the song for someone they kinda take a second listen at that part.

Why delete the screaming part? I hate when bands compromise for Radio. IMO Led Zepplin had it right, don't bother ith singles, concentrate on albums.

If they release that tune then they should keep it intact. It is a bit complex for radio but fuck it. It is a cool tune.

Has a fam made edited version ou there, that cuts out ?the Metal Part .... afeter heard this edited version you understand and realise wy the metal part is there , the music is so much powerful and great ?, just blow away !!!

The metal part is actually what got me into the song and Im not even that big a metal fan.

I was listening to it and tuning in and out until BANG that bit came. Ive loved it ever since.

Yeah, no one can deny the songs greatness. Anyone who has any doubts about Axl needs to listen to 'Better'. If they don't release it as a single, it will be a HUGE missed opportunity. BTW, all of the strange guitar noises are FANTASTIC. It really adds to it...

Everyone I've let listen to the song (and some of them have THEE worst taste in music you could imagine) all replied with...."Who's This?" and I'm like GNR and they're like no fucking way this rocks.  The thing about it is.....you people understand that the demo has a horrible mix.  I'm sure much work will be done to make it sound right in parts (especially the last verse where the lyrics are the same volume and clashing).  Let it be worked with in the studio and I'll sound fucking incredible once it's actually mixed and mastered correctly. 
Seriously though out of all the new songs, this one has gotten the most buzz from my friends.

From all the songs we've heard, I think "Better" would be a good single, but I'd open the album with "IRS."

the only one I got positive feed back from was Better :beer: It's the only one I really really like too

I played Better to two friends the other day who are both into rock music and they thought it was dire although unfortunately it was only the Rio performance on youtube so the sound and quality maybe didn't do it any favours but I was surprised they didn't like it.
