Title: Macintosh or PC
Post by: Markus Asraelius on June 01, 2006, 02:48:15 PM
Okay, so the macintosh is like our family computer although I've used both: a mac and a p.c. And, I prefer the mac.

So, what does everybody think, do we prefer a mac or a pc?

The only advantage I could think of using a pc could be is the amount of games/applications that exist for it versus the macintosh.

I'm a PC guy myself :P Mac sucks....I dunno same shit nothing a mac can do that a PC can't...usually PC's are better...and PC's are more upgradable and customizable...and cheaper....and more stuff is compatible with a PC....i could go on for hours really :hihi:

Yeah and even funnier you hardly ever hear about macs getting viruses, because THEY DON'T.

And another thing macs never lock up or give you idiotic errors like pc's do.

Macs are better computers, plain and simple.

hmmm...well if you know what you're doing you don't get viruses either.

and I've heard of lots of cases of Mac's locking up....it's a myth :peace: thing is, from what i understand, if a mac locks up you gotta reinstall everything....I bet it's fun too ;)

I never said a mac doesn't lock up, I said it doesn't lock up as much as a p.c.

For instance, this mac that I type on right now, has only locked up 3 times in the 14 months I've used it.

BTW, I'm not aware of any myth out there that says a mac never locks up.

I'm on WindowsXP and it has never locked-up once. I do lots of things with my PC also. The only reason most viruses are written for Windows is because hackers know that's what most people and company's use.

You'd think you would be able to catch a virus when using any platform that you use to share information  :-\

Macs are great if you're into heavy-duty processing or video editing. Macs handle video like no other. When I interned at CNBC in London all the editors there were being forced to use Windows Adobe Premiere which they all hated. They all wanted to use the old company software, which was Final Cut for Macs. The truth is, Macs are generally built better and are more efficient and reliable when it comes to heavier stuff like video - all the special effects in Terminator 2 were done on Macs back in 1991. They are still heavily used for that type of thing.

However, I prefer Windows because I think it's generally a better interface, more easy to use, more compatible, and for the AVERAGE PERSON it's more efficient. Macs have their ups and downs and it seems they're not as good at just handling basic stuff. I also hate the Mac interface and the whole "we'll be different from Windows and not be compatible with anything else - but not by much" attitude of Macintosh. Example? They created a one-click mouse just because they didn't want to make a two-click mouse and have it be like Windows. The whole thing reminds me of AOL - Macs are in their own little universe and try to rework everything to make it "different" for Macs - but a lot of times it just comes across as aggravating.

I prefer Macs. But PC's are cool too.

At this point you can have a computer that runs both.. so.. I don't see the point in a rivalry

Macs are terrible. A normal PC will work just fine with Windows, or even FreeBSD or Linux if you want to be kvlt.

I've been running GNU/Linux as my main system for years on a PC. Nothing kvlt about it, it just works better for me.

I have had a Mac for 20 years and that has never happened.

Most computer experts consider Macs to be superior in terms  of inherent technology and ease of use.
Their downfall was in marketing in the 1980s until Steve Jobs returned. Now, a Mac can run Windows, so you can have the benefits of a Mac and still have what you want from Windows. Is the opposite true? No, you are stuck with Windows, which as everyone knows, has new security gaps literally every month. I have colleagues at work who switched  from Macs to PC a fews years back for fear of losing IT support (which never happened), and now they regret their decision. So, while Macs may be higher priced, you get what you pay for, and in this case you get a better computer that is easier to use, more versatile, and is a better computer.

I have a PC, but I prefer Mac's usability and look about it. It just looks less yuppieish.

Not true...I got OSX to run on my PC...i hated it I went back to Windows XP....one question....why change Machines to use the same OS? Sounds silly to me

no it was stable....just for being more "user freindly" it was confusing as hell :hihi:

I used Macs in college too....they are a pain in the ass IMO

And when was that? Macs are the ultimate in ease of use. If you found them confusing, then the question is why were you in college? And further, why do you think most colleges buy Macs for their computer labs? Because they are easy to use and very intuitive. BTW, did you graduate? ;)

I understand that.. After being a long time pc user it was difficult switching.. you kind of need some 1 to show ya the ropes, but after that is all easy and you will find its much simpler...

And Krispity Kream.. Im pretty sure Neemo Graduated.. Hes like a Architect or sumtin

It is interesting to note that Windows  has been copying Mac technology to make usage easier, as well as graphics, websearch, and audio/visual functions.
This question will never be settled  once  and for  all. Look at all the old gnr vs new gnr and axl vs slash and on and on. I am confident in my knowledge that Macs are a superior computer. Those who use them, know. For the rest, if  you are happy with your PC, fine, more power  to you. It  is your choice and your money.

but macs are sillier :P

I cant remeber what version of osx i ran...it was a recent one though

and i graduated, jerk :hihi: my department had pcs cuz autocad doesn't support macs (cuz they suck) I played with the one s in the photography department Cuz I knew someone that was taking photography and i wanted to see how "great" the program was...btw you can get Adobe Photoshop on PC too ;)

I just don't like the layout....but I've been a PC person since DOS so...

as far as i recall, microsoft was paying apple to use certain elements of their operating system...and that apple has also copied some elements of microsoft's operating system in recent years...the fact is that both companies were copying each other...in fact apple nor microsoft invented many of the basic elements of their computers such as the mouse, object oriented programming, wysiwyg etc...they happily copied that off of xerox

http://www.quad4x.net/?page_id=637

as to say that the Mac is superior to the PC...in some ways it may be but overall windows xp wipes the floor with a mac, its faster, both the operating system and its hardware are more configurable, it has more applications, it has better usability and its half the price...and designers, their egos and their macs go well together
