Title: Someone may want to Stick this one up--AOL GNR On Demand
Post by: Minneapolisnewsman on May 28, 2006, 09:08:51 PM
The stream is fixed, maybe a moderator can stick this on the top.? Audio and video are fixed--clean stream!!!

All songs, except the new ones are ON Demand.? Guy's the quality is far better than anything we have had yet!

http://music.aol.com/network_live/concert_videos/guns_n_roses/ondemand

The sound is off horribly on LALD, and Rocket Queen.  They must have had their master mix-board completely blow out!  Also, during LALD Axl about get's hit by the fire, and during the middle of Jungle the sound blows out again.  Rocket Queen, man it's too bad it blew out there?  Was it notieable when this happened at the show?

The quality of this still sounds to me just like it did last night.

Why don't I get any audio or video? I can just see a blackbox. Do you need quicktime?

you need to click on Guns n' roses    and then click on a song in the setlist on the left.  you can only play one song at a time .  it won't stream the entire show  at once

Really?  Man it's light and day better than what I had last night!  Still, the mix is completely off, with Axl's voice a two guitars completely dropping out for a few minutes at a time.  But when all elements can be heard, it sounds crystal clear.

I'm not getting any video nor audio, but I guess it's because I am using a Mac or because I am in Germany, but please someone listen for example to SCOM and tell me wheter you can still hear dizzy play the organ loud as hell or if there are actually guitars, like its supposed to be. If you can still barely hear a guitar, but instead this damn organ, then AOL might have improved the stream quality, but it doesn't fix the shitty mix.
In either case it's better than nothing.

After listening to this I realized two things. First off, as people have stated repeatedly, something was wrong with the mix. Its hard to judge the earlier songs as the whole mixed is fucked up. Axl's mic kept cutting out, which really distracted me. It reminded me of RIR 2 when during YCBM his mike went out for 2 minutes. The mix was fixed around Out Ta Get Me and it was there that I was able to truly appreciate the new lineup. I'm a fan of the old band (especially their chemistry), but this new band plays well together. Most importantly Axl's voice is much better than 2002 and nearly as good as 87-93. He has his rasp back, and he has more power to his voice. I'm very glad about that as that was my main problem with the 2002 performances. Along with the improved voice is Axl's stage presence. He now commands the stage. He feels the music and it translate well with the performance. Not only that but his image has been improved tremondously. He now looks more rock and roll and that fits the music well.

?The band is good but I do have one problem: the guitars. I know this is a hot topic (I've been reading these boards for a while now). I think Ron is a good guitarist and Richard fills his role well. Its mainly Finck I have a problem with. I know people say he has emotion but the truth is he isn't a great guitarist. He regularly flubs key solos and makes a mess of them. He seems like a cool guy but when you're assigned the task of playing lead guitar for Guns and Fucking Roses, you better do a damn good job. This isn't saying that Slash was an excellent live guitarist, quite the contrary. He often made mistakes (especially during the Nighttrain outro) and his improv solos were average. Slash's true strength came in the studio and it will be interesting to see how the new guitarists perform in the studio (haven't listened to the new songs).

In addition, I think there are too many synth effects, but this is a minor complaint. Overall I'm impressed with the band. They have come a long way since 2002. Some people like to be really nostalgic and build up the image that the old band was perfect. They weren't, some of their performances were underwhelming (I've watched LOTS of old boots). ?The most important thing for the new band is to keep playing and work out the kinks. They've come a long way and it'll be interesting to see how they are as a band when they come over to North America.

P.S. Thanks for the link and its cool to finally join the board.

Thanks for posting that. Thought it was good to finally see more than footage from camera phones. I liked it, sound was off on 1 or 2 songs and no new tracks but hey, it something. I liked it. Nighttrain was probably best. Were they off on the beginning of PC? I saw Axl with his whistle then it seemed like one of the guitarists messed up.

One sidenote:  I noticed some people on here complaining about the feed?? You all need to upgrade off of dialup or something. I have cable modem with a shitty old computer and my feed came thru clear. Never froze.

I am getting a feed which looks almost hi-def!  Someone should tell merck that the microphone and guitars drop from the mix almost every song for a period do time--if that is fixed, it is an incredible show.  One can't even hear the solo of SCOM!  Moreover, the sound needs to turn Axl microphone up a notch.  Especially on the rockers!

Yeah, the sound was horrible at times. I watched the show with quite a few people, and when the IRS solo was coming up, I said,"this is where BH owned this song. Lets see what Bumblefoot does". Hell, you could barely hear it. This show could have been so much better. I bet it was amazing to the people who were actually there.
