Title: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Mr Rage on May 24, 2006, 06:12:31 PM Axl came number 13 in the list, and typical NME student cock-sucking fasion couldn't even pay him a complament,
"with his whisky soaked, sunset strip voice, he is as famous for his pre-madonna ways as well as his songs, but rock would have been a much duller place without him" Cobain came number 1, with pete doherty second which says everything about the NME and the people who read it! Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Origen on May 24, 2006, 06:16:02 PM How are they "cock-Sucker" ? Not eveyone is going to go "yeah Axl Rose is the great" blah blah blah. Besides saying "but rock would have been a much duller place without him" is quite a nice thing to say about him I think.
Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: GnR-NOW on May 24, 2006, 06:18:17 PM Curt Cobain and Pete Doherty dont have any near the repetoire of Axl let alone the creative ability.
Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Mr Rage on May 24, 2006, 06:19:15 PM sorry just i really hate the NME and the fact they don't get behind anything decent! there quick to get behind a band and then yank em down, i just the bands they kiss up to their nothing special e.g futueheads, maxio park, libertines etc.
and another thing can't they say in a little line he is a great front man n songwriter wouldn't of hurt! Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: axl_rose_700 on May 24, 2006, 06:20:21 PM Pete Doherty? What the fuck has he ever done!?

Post by: A Private Eye on May 24, 2006, 06:24:29 PM Wasn't too bad what they said really, fairly accurate infact.
Pete Doherty though?? An icon of rock, I don't think so. If ever there was a waste of oxygen it's him, can't stand the guy ? Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Mr Rage on May 24, 2006, 06:25:37 PM you don't have to read it they heavily influence MTV2 and that zane lowe is their mouth piece!
This list was voted by nme readers, top 4 were: 1. Kurt Cobain 2. Pete Doherty 3. Morrisery 4. Liam Gallagher by the way the alex turner, The singer from the The strokes all beat axl? Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: A Private Eye on May 24, 2006, 06:29:43 PM If you want info about rock music you don't go to NME it offers nothing of any worth unless you're into indy music. Axl did well to get into the NME's top 50 considering, although I think Zane Lowe is a fan of GNR so that might explain it.
Out of interest is Pete Doherty even well known outside of the UK? Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: bumblerocks on May 24, 2006, 06:29:55 PM ridicilous list...
still some nice comments though. Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: GnR-NOW on May 24, 2006, 06:31:34 PM the only thing i know about pete doherty is that he dated kate moss, who is hot as hell

Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: A Private Eye on May 24, 2006, 06:40:44 PM What I don't understand is that this obviously an international list so it has to be the worlds biggest rock icons, so leading the charge from the UK, Pete Doherty. He's ahead of Mick Jagger and Ozzy ffs. It's laughable when you think that lump of shit has beaten Ozzy and Mick in such a list

Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Pied_piper on May 24, 2006, 07:51:46 PM it is quite infuriating hearing berate pete doherty. a fair few hypocrites here...you have completely lapped up the press image of him, without a real insight into hus true being, and yet you all go off on your high horse if the media slate axl. Doherty is an exceptional poet, and very very good song writer, i am certainy not defending his latest antics, but it is clear to see drugs have suspended any sense of normality. ?and if anyone is in doubt of his ability:
In his passion, only a passion for life, he would, with deliberation, never hurrying, deliberately get words wrong. 'I don't' - when he did 'I will' - when he clearly won't The careers officer, a plumping cheerless soul and a superb liar in his own right, surveyed the sorry specimen before him. This murky eyed bundle of hair and shabby blue suit. Mr Egg breathed a sigh of despair. 'So Spaniel... what are your interests or hobbies?' 'My answer, sir, here: I am quiet and lonesome and full of heavy mercury, industrial melancholy. I have patience without insight and insight without care for coherence. I make music in my head and wish that I was dead.' The careers officer, Mr. Egg, nodded with false wisdom, discarded the Territorial Army brochures, and gazed with intent at the top of Spaniel O'Spaniel's head. 'Is there anything you want from life?' Dangerous question, Egg. 'The answer to that, sir, is that I want Death On The Stairs.' Laughter billowed at a most unnatural frequency, shocking the small office. 'When? When do you want Death On The Stairs?' 'When? The same time as all the fucking others - when I've been down in Albion in a Hackney Cabriolet. When all my domesticated heroes have died, when I've lied to my loved ones. When I've become immune to my own instincts, when I'm in so much debt I smash up telephone boxes and little old people in order to keep up my periodical subscriptions, and Jack McNasty, north west London's most bloodthirsty black hearted loan shark runs away from me in pity and fear. When I lie between cold stone walls breathing gaseous fag ash, alone with the dust mites in this piteous vision. When the night is worlds away from the day.' A pause. Mr Egg, the Careers Officer, twirls his finger round a rubber plant leaf. Spaniel stands, in crescendo, 'When I know for a fact that the days in the sun were illusions. When I see the tears and tears in my proud father's coat, When my saviour, my lord, the one who promised me life Is drinking in Stepney with his soon to be wife, Then, sure as McFuckety, It's time for Death On The Stairs.' ? Peter Doherty (sure this is not a literature contest but...) ? ..and great to see axl back in the limelight and sorry for this sensational response Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Tomorrows on May 24, 2006, 08:09:55 PM Thats a pretty shit list IMO. They could really do with some more of the "live fast, die young" icons like Jim Morrison.
And Johnny Marr? Hello? I like the Smiths but one of the 50 great rock icons? Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: bumblerocks on May 24, 2006, 08:14:54 PM that list ain't objective for shit. bullshit list.

If they were REALLY musically intellectual they would have put Dimebag, Marilyn Manson, Freddy Mercury, John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, John Frusciante and/or Anthony Kiedis, Max Cavalera, Mick Jagger and/or Keith Richards, Angus Young, Robert Smith, Jack White, Eddie Van Halen, Nuno Bettencourt, and people like that. Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Tomorrows on May 24, 2006, 08:47:18 PM Yea - its usually the frontman who is the icon. it was written like: " fans had to be patient when scandal rocker pete doherty came up 5 hours late......." can you imagine the article if axl would`ve showed up 5 hours late???? then, a friend of mine drove to a babyshambles concert in cologne on a thursday and the guy just didn`t show up.... again... it`s cool when pete doherty does that kind of stuff..... but what if axl did that?? Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: BD888 on May 29, 2006, 08:32:35 PM Wow, what a strange readership NME must have.
I mean, where is Bono of U2? When he's not out saving the world and being seen with leading politicians, he's playing the biggest tours at the biggest venues all over the world. And why Liam Gallagher? I don't think many people would even associate that name with Oasis outside of the UK. But it is a UK rag so I guess that's partly why. Doherty is kinda a pop culture icon though. He's in all the glossies and tabloids on a daily basis, so he does deserve to be in the list purely for that, because well, no one can name a song that he's written. Here in the UK, everyone knows who he is. I wonder why Kurt Cobain is number 1 though. If he's up there, then what about Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, who were far more influencial, famous, well known and well cooler. I guess it's because his death was relatively recent, and it's the last rock star to die tradjically that the world cared about. Title: Re: Axl In NME's 50 Rock Icons List! Post by: Mr Rage on May 29, 2006, 09:07:23 PM most of them you named were in the list i just couldn't tell what number they were.
I dunno what it's like in other countries, but in the UK sometime we have an almost anti America attidude towards are rockstars, we like them home grown! ;D The reason why liam is seen as a icon is back in 1994 in the UK we hadn't really had a bad boy of rock for such a long time, and here comes someone fresh of the council estate who didn't give a fuck and wouldn't take no shit of anybody! And his poetry won him the opportunity to work with The British Council in Russia, aged just 16 (the poet was "Albion" from Babyshambles debut album Down In Albion). One of the first Libertines interviews (NME). Different picture of Pete Doherty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWMFgmHz5Z8 'I don't' - when he did 'I will' - when he clearly won't The careers officer... "Cock Sucking Student Magazine" is a pretty accurate description. I suppose you could argue that the magazine should only focus on new music, bands and hype them up, since thats what the magazine is named after. But still, there is only so many times you can read about Pete Doherty and the fucking Libertines and Babyshambles. Dont get me wrong i like the Libertines, i think Pete Doherty is an overrated cock, but i respect his talent yada yada...... he is lyrically acomplished and an established poet, but the amount of attention NME give him is just ridiculous. If you go back and read past issues, every month there is some new band that is going to save Rock n Roll........... they never last........ thank god, in most cases!
