Title: Who should tour with/open for GN'R?
Post by: Mr Cowbell ? on September 16, 2004, 03:24:08 AM
With the rumor upcoming GnR tour, I was wondering who each of you thinks should open up for GnR.

I am thinking Weezer. I am not the biggest weezer fan but they were honored to do it before and still like Axl. They have enough appeal to bring in extra fans. (something all good tours need). They have enough good singles and are a good enough to fill the arenas and it would be a great Rock Show.

Any other ideas?

Yea, Weezer would be a good idea. Can't really think of any more, maybe the Darkness?

judas priest has reunited with good old rob
they release a new album+dvd in late december and will tour the world 2005
gnr and priest are kinda like gods in each their genre to me so i hope for that to happen

but somethings tells me it won't...

yes Jet, I saw them at MTV VMA this year and they were the best. Oasis would be a fantastic choice too but I doubt the Gallagher's brothers would want to just open.

i think weezer is the best choice for reasons already stated. it would put axl in good favor with many, cause weezer is well liked and respected.

silvertide would be awesome.

GnR should have VR as a opening act every second gig, and the other night GnR should open for VR..  If we can't make them reunite, it would be fucking awsome to have them on the same stages the same time !!!     :peace:

1. Jet (the best and only part of the 2004 VMA worth watching-IMO) : ok:
2. Buckethead and Giant Robot (yeah, it's a joke) :hihi:
3. Tommy Stinson (backed by The Figgs) (yeah, I'm dreaming) ;D

Title: Re: Who should tour with/open for GN'R?

The Darkness are nothing but a lame played-out parody of the kind of music GN'R, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and most of all Queen used to make. They absolutely suck, and if Axl got them as support I'd seriously begin to question his judgement and sanity.

How about no support and a 2 & 1/2 hour Guns set? Yeah, I'm dreaming too.

The Distillers?

My dream would be a joint tour with Alice Cooper. For an encore they could do 'The Garden' and 'Under My Wheels' together. :sigh:

Having seen The Darkness live I would say they were a bad choice since they might perform GNR off the stage. ;)

Title: Re: Who should tour with/open for GN'R?
Post by: jack_bauer86 on September 16, 2004, 10:38:18 AM
I think that Ash would be a good opening act, but I think they'd pick a US act like Weezer again as others have mentioned. Silvertide would rock as well, but they supported VR and so might be kinda against the 'newGNR' as Sum 41 were when they refused to open in 2002.

In a perfect world, I'd like my friends' band  Without Grace (www.withoutgrace.com (http://www.withoutgrace.com)) to open for them!! They just recently got signed and have a single coming out here in the UK in a few weeks. Check out the site and downloads and stuff and let me know what you think!!

I would say an up and coming rock band, but the rock scene is horrible right now.  >:( Hell, the only band I might pay to listen to is Shinedown. So, my vote goes for Weezer!

Weezer's kinda on the same schedule as GnR right now for a release date/tour thing... and I love the Weez.
I think that'd be a GREAT tour. And the Weez never cancel!

Actually, BT should be the opener. He uses Richard Fortus, Tommy Stinson and Brain already.

Oasis and The Darkness are far too big to open for the current gn'r.

And the darkness would definetly upstage gn'r onstage. definetly.

Are you joking? I like the darkness and all but all they have is one single to speak of. Look at Metallica they got godsmask, a mid club filling band with many singles opening for them? You think the Darkness is too big to open? You got to be kidding

Post by: tp4ever84 on September 16, 2004, 02:46:17 PM
My top choice would be Audioslave but they are to big now to want to open for someone.  Silvertide is a awesome band I saw them open for Van Halen and they kicked ass can't wait for their album that comes out later this month.  Jet would be good.  How about The Black Crowes reunite and open :).  Or how about CKY j/k.

GNR for fucking ever.

Title: Re: Who should tour with/open for GN'R?

Velvet Revolver

But seriously, there aren't that many fitting, current bands I can think of that would do it.  Maybe Megadeth, afterall they do have a new album coming out themselves.

Please no weezer!

And it depends where you are with the darkness. one single?! try 4 and a xmas single from what i can tell! 3 of which blew up huge in the UK. They're certainly too big to support - they have an arena tour thats selling out fast this xmas - 3 dates for wembley already! I'd like a co-headline :-)
Godsmack doesn't rly fit I dont think, but i dont know much of their stuff to be fair.

Bob :-)

weezer would be a good choice...But I would love to see the darkness or jet opening for 'em...or even kings of leon (wich is a great band!)...

Maybe skid row with the new formation!! I know that skid row whitout sebastian is not the same, but still is a great band!

But Axl woud, problably, pick some new band, just to put them on the media...open some doors for any band wich is begening some job...

Try 5 singles and you'd be right. They also have mutt lange producing their new album which will be supported by a complete sell out stadium tour. I'd like to see you name three bands on earth that can sell out Wembley Stadium three times right now.
Are you joking? I like the darkness and all but all they have is one single to speak of. Look at Metallica they got godsmask, a mid club filling band with many singles opening for them? You think the Darkness is too big to open? You got to be kidding

The Darkness have sold out Wembley Arena , not Wembley Stadium.
Wembley Arena = 12,000 approx.
Wembley Stadium (when it was there) 75,000 approx.
The new Wembley Stadium (when it's built) 90,000.

I saw Gn'R at Wembley Stadium in 1992 , it was sold out , best gig of my life.

Regarding The Darkness , I do own 'Permission To Land' but I'm becoming bored with them , last year was their year.
They have no new material.
They had awful . awful reviews for the few summer headlining festival gigs in the UK.

By the time 'Chinese Democracy' comes out , no-one will remember these guys.

Wait are you guys saying you want the band that song "short skirt and a long jacket" or whatever to open up for Gn'R  :o ??? The only people I have ever seen that listen to weezer are the hippys of my generation (im 17). And that'd in my opinion make then look to soft. Lets bring back rock....Darkness is out in my opinion because they come of as a parody act (even if they arent), SoaD could be a decent choice along with Megadeth, Bachs new band could be kinda gnarly too. Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit would be a fuckin joke! All this talk about Guns N' Roses being the potential savior of rock and you want people who are perpetuating its downfall??? I going to go out on a limb and say that anyone who insists that the idea of Weezer opening for Guns N' Roses is a fucktard  : ok:

No, the bassist was fired though.

Manic Street Preachers would be interesting as an opener. Nobody seems to know them in USA anyway.

Oh, and Monster Magnet might be cool as well.

I'll tell you one thing I hated both opening acts during 2002. He needs to team with someone semi known, but not big enough to steal the spotlight..

Strokes
jet

I wonder if he would use some of those emo groups that I hate,
yellowcard, hoobastank, new found glory, story of the year, coheed n cambria, etc?

I ask because CKY didn't fit anything, nor did mixmaster, just made me drink more

Metallica?  VR?  Weezer? Sum 41? You must be kidding?  Let's be realistic.... GnR is a legendary band and needs no introduction.... but if there had to be an opening act, it would have to be a group that doesn't conflict with GnR's style.... and seeing how Axl has done his best to branch off into a new sounding more industrial style of music, it would only be fitting that Nine Inch Nails would open up for GnR.

Exactly there is so many benefits for opening bands.

Longer shows with bad bands make people DRINK MORE hence the clubs make more.

Record Companies can use the spot to push a new upcoming band.

Gives you a full fealing, wouldnt you feel cheated after seeing the main band and they only play for 1 hour?

Oasis sold over 40 million albums worldwide. In UK, they even outsell the Beattles. American people can't understand how big Oasis is in Europe. Oasis totally dominated and ruled Europe in the mid and late 90's. Totally. They are wayyyyyyy too big to "open" for GN'R even if it would be my dream because they are my 2 favourite bands.

Oasis opened for Guns N' Roses at Rock in Rio 3. I can assure you they will never do that again. :hihi:

Whatever happened during RIR3 when Oasis opened for GNR?  I heard Axl make a comment about getting along with eachother unlike Oasis.  What did he meen by that?  A reply would be nice to have on this one.

Im not sure if I remeber correctly, but I think during a press conference before the show one of the Gallagher brothers said something that was like an attack agains Axl or GNR (I really don't remember what he said). So when Axl played all he said was "regardles of what you have heard or read people worked very hard, meaning my former friends, to do everything they could so that I could not be here today. I say fuck that. I am as hurted and disapointed as you that unlike OASIS we could not find a way to all get along. So Im going to introduce the new band..... " and that was it.

Maybe its just me, but it appeared that CKY and DJ Honkytonk weren't well recieved by GNR fans (at MSG show) on 2002 tour.  I was just wondering who u guys think would be a respectable opening act for "next" tour?  I think it would be cool to hear a band like Helmet or Perfect Circle open.  just wondering what u would like to hear around the globe.

Yes, they'd be good. GN'R always had good opening bands, but the other bands on the last 'tour' were pure crap.

A lot of bands that have toured with gnr haven't been well received. For instants The Smashing Pumpkins, whom I like , but apparently I the minority.

I think they should look into a couple of unsigned bands.

Why do people have to be such douches about CKY? I think they are a pretty good band - not the best, but good enough to not deserve ridicule from people who can't accept something other than their precious old rock. It's one thing to say they aren't your cup of tea. It's another to say it sucks.

Anyway, I'm all for Jet. Jet fucking rules.

Hillel, I always pictured Elastica as kind of a female GNR. If you like their first album you should buy their Radio One Sessions CD. Its demos of their songs from several albums. Extremely raw feel to it. The version of Line UP on radio one is awesome! There is also an unreleased song on it called Brighton Rock that is incredible! That song was supposed to be on their first album but for some reason wasn't. Elastica broke up a couple years ago. But opening for GNR would be a great reason to get back together. Actually, I always thought Justine would be a great replacement for Buckethead!

Please if a tour ever happens, let there be rock bands touring w/ Guns, not indie fashion rockers like the kilers, fuck that gay ass shit. This is Axl Rose, we are talking about... hard rockers only on this tour please...

get Seb Bach for fucks sake, that would tear it up...

First time i saw GNR it was Blind Melon, Soul Asylum, The Cult & GNR. I would hope/expect something of that level if the CD comes and a world tour happens

hahaha, you know, I have heard this same question for a LONG time now.  Answers have ranged over the years from Soundgarden (yes they were together then), Alice in Chains (yes Layne was alive then), Jerry Cantrell, Mike Patton, Slash's Snakepit, Loaded, Everlast, Slayer (still my top choice), Megadeth, Beastie Boys, Jane's Addiction.... god I cant even remember all of the names its been too many times that question has been asked.

As of right now, I would like to see GNR tour with Slayer and Biohazard (last album, should tour for one last time)... yeah I know some of you might say its too 'heavy' but I think that would be the most adrenaline pumping intense show I would ever see.

I think Axl would be more likely get on stage with Slash before he gets on the same stage as Bon Jovi! lol   That would suck imo.

Remember with CD Axl will be pushing forward not going back, so those older acts i dont think will fit the whole CD direction.

I'd hope for people like The Foo Fighters (i'm not a big fan but they would make a good support line-up),  Queens of the stoneage and something like The Fantomas/Tomahawk one of Mike Pattons avant garde, hard hitting trips.

BTW I agree Tool would be awsome too.

Hey,
? Foo Fighters would never happen,as Dave Grohl has stated on several occasions that he doesn't like GNR music or Axl Rose.

I wouldn't mind seeing Queens of the Stone Age open up. Maybe Deftones too.

Not NIN,though. I doubt Trent would want to run into Robin any time soon and he wouldn't want to be an opener anyway. He's waaay too established.

Same thing with Tool. And Tool would be the opener if it DID happen.

? Guns N' Roses open for NO ONE. Period.

? ?

? ?GNR FOREVER!!

Hey,

? ? ? ? MATT

i Dont belive Tool would ever agree on that.  But anyway.. if it did happend, it had to be a double concert! Coz the 2 band are BIG and makes great music!

The Vines even!!  They arent really getting the recognition they deserve (in australia at least)

Pearl Jam and Guns N' Roses would be a great duet!
There's no chance for having empty arenas if they are together.

If Foo fighters were the support then Axl would be cleared after 15 years. Just a slam for Cobain's scorn. Unrealistic.

If someone here mentioned Green day, well it would certainly help with the sale tickets but the whole idea just ...sucks!

ticketwise the best thing would be a european tour with Oasis  first and then a U.S. tour with metallica.
Musicwise IMO they should tour with bands like QOTSA, Unida, Tool or Government mule(I wish)

I think metallica has had enough of Axl and GnR (membership changes or not), all things considered.  I was lucky enough to see the '92 show in Foxboro.  But, given everything that transpired on that tour (and the things that some members of Metallica have said in the press about Axl), I'd give another tour with those two parties involved about as much chance as a snowball in hell.

I'm not 100% convinced they are quite a headline act in the UK yet.

And alongside GN'R and Metallica, they are a rung below on the ladder of greatness.

My top choice would be Audioslave but they are to big now to want to open for someone.?

Eh, I don't know. ?They would be my first choice too, actually, followed by someone like Shinedown or Disturbed.

If the deal was right, and they booked the right venues...I think Audioslave would do it.

Especially if, rather than book 2 acts like the '02 tour (CKY and MMM), they just gave Audioslave a practical headliner set to play (1.5 hours-ish).

They should do a Motley Crue and have no opener, just a 2 hour set.

Only problem with that plan is if Axl doesn't show up, they can't avoid a riot by appeasing the fans with CKY and a double length Mix Master Mike special treat of a set ...  ::)

Silvertide does kick ass I saw them a like 2 years ago opening for Van Halen and then saw them a few days before their album hit.  I would like to see Audioslave (doubt they would be named a opener for anyone now), White Stripes, or Queens of the Stone Age.  How about a summer rock and roll tour (kind of like summer sanitarium) and have full sets by GNR, Audioslave, White Stripes with openers QOTSA, Silvertide, and a few other bands.

Seriously though I could see GNR and Audioslave going on tour together since Audioslave have another new album coming out in May/June and I'm sure Silvertide would love to be on that bill.

Audioslave + GNR = Heaven

Chris Cornell and Axl like each others work too from what I understand... But Audioslave is pretty big to be opening... Hmmm....

I also love Shinedown - that'd be majorly awesome. If Shinedown keeps on going they're gonna be huge. This would be perfect for them!

I keep hearing Silvertide is good... Perhaps I'll look into them...

They should open with a DJ. ?Haha. ?No, been there, done that, and I was only joking :)

Hmmm... they need a good rock band to get the crowd pumped. ?Silvertide was okay for VR... hmm, maybe Alien Crime Syndicate, or that Avengefold 7 (have yet to hear one of their songs though... yeah, I probably am living under a rock at the moment).

Or why not have Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman jam on the keyboards or something?? ?That would be kind of interesting. ?

Without a doubt, like most have said, SILVERTIDE.?

Anyone that loves a guitar (most gnr fans are naturally based on that thanks to izzy and slash), is into Nick Perri and Silvertide.?

I could also see Buckcherry, and I like the Clutch mention.? It's great that Avengefold 7 are fans of GNR, but that doesn't mean they are guaranteed to be a good opener for GNR.? Alot of bands list GNR as an influence.? Heck, even country acts love GNR.? Read Shooter Jennings bio, www.shooterjennings.com , hell lets have him open since he is such a big fan if we are going to base our opening group on that method.?

AFI would be my top choice....different enough from GNR, but I think the fanbase would still like them. I only saw them live on radio station show, so they had a short 30 minute set and filled it well. The lead singer might be the only one I've seen live that is more active than Axl onstage...he's seriously like a whirling durbish.

Avenged Sevefold would also be great, especially since they are such huge fans. How about Puddle of Mudd? their not too big where they couldnt open for them...their styles are comparable, and their also huge fans (The Song drift and Die was written based on the Estranged lyric.) Silvertide wouldn't be bad either.

How about someone like Fiona Apple(not likely) or Michelle Branch(more likely). The arenas wouldn't be packed with too many non GNR fans, and both of these artists would put on a great show.

Billy Talent! Their debut album has the same raw energy and feel that Appetite For Destruction does. It's not quite as good as Appetite but it's close...

It would be cool to have some young kick ass Rock band open, similar to have Aerosmith had GN'R when they were massive and GN'R were almost equally as massive coming through. Problem is I can't think of such a band..

Monster Magnet was horrible when they opened on Zombie's Hellbilly Deluxe tour.

I'm going to reiterate, SEVENDUST...and agree with Crossfade and/or Silvertide.

If they do Download, I hope Tool go on before them. :peace:

that WOULD be Fucking amazing. But i guess Tool would like to play last..

I'm not 100% convinced they are quite a headline act in the UK yet.

And alongside GN'R and Metallica, they are a rung below on the ladder of greatness.

And I'm sure I read somewhere about Maynard and Axl being buddies, so you never know. :peace:

Dont get me wrong.
Maynard and Axl are my two biggest favs. of all time.
And i know GNR has a great history, and Tool is about
to make it theyr selfs.. and i guess GNR would be set for
last act. But, i dont think Tool would like to play last, because
of theyr live show, that needs to be in the dark.. etc.

I know there was a little verbal fight when Maynard ran of
with Billy Howerdel, and started the APC project. More then
that i dont think they have any fights in any way. I remember
Maynard says something like, God Bless Axl, but he doesent
seam to get his things together..
But there sure is alot of paralels between Axl and Maynard
- Chris Pittman worked with Tool
- Josh Freese and Billy Howerdel From Maynards APC have history with GNR
- Danny Carey (Tool Drumer) Worked with GNR`s Chris pittman
- Robin Finck opend for Tool with NIN, i think?
- and if im not totaly wrong Brain has also done things with APC member..??? (correct me if im wrong her)
Anyway! It would be great to see them the same day! They doesent even have to be opener. Just tour together...

My dream situation

I think it'd be cool if they got small, unknown local bands to play at each stop of their tour...change it up each time.

If not, I'd really like to see Buckcherry (similar kind of rock) or on a personal note, LIVE (big fan).  They have a new disc coming out soon (although its been pushed back almost as many times as CD! hehe).  Never happen, but one can dream.

Monster Magnet would be cool too, I just got in to their stuff a few weeks back when I heard Space Lord on the radio that song rocks.  It seems the majority want Audioslave, Buckcherry, Silvertide, White Stripes, and Avenge Sevenfold I would be glad to see any of those bands open up.  I'm definatley making it out to see each one of them by themselves if they don't make it on a bill with GNR.  I've seen Audioslave twice once front row in Nov. and it was amazing I also have seen Silvertide twice once front row too and they are very energetic rock and roll group.  Another group that would be cool to see live again that has recently reformed is The Black Crowes.

^^^I don't mind them.  They have some decent tunes and they are a good example of how rock was back in those days, not only in sound, but in attitude and in their larger then life personas.  I just don't see them with GNR though....Motley still has that 80s sound to them whereas GNR is moving in a diff direction and their music is pretty timeless - sounds good in any decade.

Jet is the best idea I've read so far.

I think that alot of the bands being mentioned are a little to big to be opening for NuGnR. Maybe after this lineup gets a name for itself, but right now Audioslave, Foo Fighters, and alot of the other bands being mentioned are bigger than GnR. It's not like this is Axl, Izzy, Slash, Duff and (pick a drummer).......... They are running off of two internet leaks and a failed tour in 2002.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see them. But be a little more realistic when throwing out 'openers'.

No band out today is more popular then GNR had been(80 million records sold), I think the bigger bands we have mentioned (Audioslave, White Stripes, ect.) would open for them just because they are GNR because of Axl they would jump on the chance.

Queens of the Stone Age.
DragonForce
Lynyrd Skynyrd (that would be FUCKIN' AWESOME!!!)
Towers of London
Skindred
MOTLEY CRUE!!! (my GOD that would be interesting!! Axl and Vince seein' each other again... what a showdown!!)
The Strokes (I'm personally not a fan, but apparantly they're huge Gn'R fans... I heard a rumor that they were gunna do a cover of NR!!)
Ani DiFranco (she fuckin' rocks!)
Elton John (that would fuckin' rock also!!)
Firewind
OpusBridge

etc etc etc....

NOT My Chemical Romance. NOT Bullet For My Valentine. NOT HIM. NOT Trivium. Not ANY vampire obsessed-blackdyedhaired-redeyeshadowwearing band with nasal vocals and three power chords played in the same order throughout every song. BLEH!

if you had LS or MS would there be much room for actuall gnr fans??

WHy are so many people picking huge established bands with followings that could sell ou these venues alone..?

I picked those bands because I like them. Yea, so what, they're established. If it was possible I'd have Guns N' Roses supporting Guns N' Roses!! But that's impossible, so I'm picking the other bands I like. : ok: If that's not a problem with His Majesty MikeGiuliana... :hihi:

Post by: AxlRose4eva1 on February 24, 2006, 08:48:14 PM
Axl showed with the most recent tour he doesnt want a big named band and I could see them having two opening acts.  I think bands that they should look at are:

My Morning Jacket  (New, interesting, somewhat still unknown classic sounding rock band)

Coheed and Cambria- possibly a little too popular, but still havent quite exploded and an opening gig for GNR would help both groups.

Fantomas or Mr. Bungle-  Both weird, both cool, both insane, both led by Mike Patton.  Patton seems to have gotten along with Axl opening for them and Metallica back with FNM and he has a cult following which will sell tickets, plus Axl can force him to perform Epic everynight to please the crowd.

AFI- good, semi popular punk band, better that weezer or greenday for 1/4 of the baggage

THe Yeah Yeah Yeahs- now that would be a sick tour.  The 3Y's are so simple that a 30-45 minute set will be plenty, only problem is Karen O may be a bit too interesting.

With Axl's admitted love for music outside his genre i think there are innumerable possibilities.  Hopefully if he chooses music unlike his it will not be a DJ like last time and maybe some interesting band like Surfjan Stevens or The Decemberists or something like that.  I noticed someoen mentioned some country bands, and I think Drive by Truckers would be great, country rock group, talented and smart.  A lot depends on when they tour, if the album is out, where and how long the tour will be etc...

My Morning jacket absolutley RULES!!!!!!!!!!!! good call but it may not happen. i think they may get some lesser known bands, i dunno.

I thought of Beck. don't know if it has been mentioned but it would be pretty sweet. again i don't know if they could pull off getting him but i'd dig it!!

also, i believe that the tour should have about 4 or so different openers in different parts of the country to change things up, maybe more depending on the size of the tour.

Title: Re: Who should tour with/open for GN'R?
Post by: disease51883 on February 25, 2006, 07:34:33 PM
This is the first discussion-encouraging thread that I've ever started. So go easy on me. I was just thinking about the types of opening acts Axl tends to choose. He usually goes with bands outside of the hard rock genre. This was true in the old days (Nine Inch Nails and Faith No More), and it's been true more recently (Weezer and CKY). I suppose that he's trying to show his diversity and appeal to fans of more alternative bands. It doesn't seem to work out very often though. The crowds are 95% Appetite for Destruction fans, and a lot of them shit on bands who sound different than that style of music. From what I understand, it happened with all the opening acts that I mentioned. I personally think that those bands range from acceptable to great, and I wish that the crowd would have been a little more open-minded. If you think about it, the opening act situation is like a smaller version of the entire Chinese Democracy situation, with Axl trying to take GNR's music in one direction and a group of AC/DC t-shirt wearing fans pulling him in the opposite direction. So how do YOU suggest Axl solves this problem (The opening act problem, that is).

Well although it is still unconfirmed and I haven't read the other threads but I think they have cancelled, the fact that Motley Crue was chosen for Dublin and they are doing shows like the Gods of Metal suggests that they are looking to win over the old school R&R again. So we may yet seen some old school R&R bands open this time around.

Seems to me that their fans are fairly young types who consider themselves into hardcore, rock n roll... why not have their fans come for avenged sevenfold, and once GNR hit the stage.... show em what REAL rock n' roll is  :peace:
No disrespect to A7X, in fact I think their last record was quite good, it has some jamming songs, and their players are quite talented. I'm tired of having opening acts that if you come for the main band, provide you with no interest because it's so out far reaching for a completely different set of fans. Seriously, why is Nine inch nails touring with Saul Williams? Seriously....

Weezer would be swell.

Tool, but I think they're too big of a band to really open for anyone... but a tour together would be killer.

The thing Avenged Sevenfold would be perfect to tour with GNR. This band sounds like GNR and they are a really popular band. Listen to the song "Seize The Day" by Avenged Sevenfold and tell me they don't sound like Guns N' Roses.

If not them I would like to see Disturbed tour with GNR. Besides the fact that Disturbed is my favorite band it would be good to see them tour because GNR were the best of the late 80's and early 90's and Disturbed are considered the best in metal right now.

I'd be happy to see any of the following (preferably two of the following) and the second band can just play until the stars align and Axl is ready to hit the stage....

Jet
Avenged Sevenfold
The Darkness
Saliva
Beautiful Creatures
Ashba
Backyard Babies
Crash Kelly
The Bones
Dirty Americans
(check out record label Liquor and Poker's web site for more info on the last four bands... this label is keeping Sunset Strip sleazy glam metal alive!)

That is all.

anyone of these would do

Dashboard Confessional
Good Charlotte
Poison
New Found Glory
Reginald K's Funky Express Bus
Will Smith
Simple Plan
They Might Be Giants
Kelly Osbourne
Yellowcard
Smash Mouth
Busta Rhymes
The Eagles

but for real i think Korn is a good choice, or the Re-United Smashing Pumpkins.

OK, WHAT!!? Most of those bands are fuckin' emo shitbags who don't even deserve to breathe the same air as Axl, let alone open for him!!! Simple Plan and New Found Glory? WHAT THE FUCK!? Those assholes can fuck right off!! Good Charlotte? They're a joke! Dashboard Confessional? Those shitbags? They should go stick their heads in a fuckin' blender!!

And POISON!!!?? I'm sorry, but NO FUCKIN' WAY! Poison tried to stop Gn'R gettin' signed way back when just because they were scared of Gn'R's obvious superior talent!! Why the fuck should they open for them now? They can fuck right off!! Besides, they fuckin' suck ass!

The only ones in that list who are fit to open are The Eagles and Korn. I'm not a huge Korn fan, but they're much better to open than ANY of those emo fuckheads in that list.

Sorry if I've offended your music taste dude... I'm just outraged at the IDEA that any of them should open for the complete and utter AWESOMENESS that is Guns N' Fuckin' Roses.

Hands down Avenged Sevenfold. They are tailor made for this. They would help sell more tickets (not that gnr will need help if they release the album before the tour). But they would help get younger people in. Also, I think the older crowd would be more accepting of Avenged than any of the younger bands out there. It would be much cooler to get them, an up and coming current band, than some older non relavant band like Weezer, Pearl Jam or even the Foo Fighters.

That is a horrible post. Why cant you allow someone to have an opinion? Every time you post, its to either criticize someone or talk about sex. Pathetic. I am surprised anyone even talks to you on here.

i hate emo for the most part, don't get me wrong. but it is hard for me to take someone's music opinion seriously that has 'skynard' in their screen name.

Why cant you allow someone to have an opinion?

How am I stopping that person having an opinion? Just because I flew off the handle there doesn't mean I'm saying that damien24 can't like emo if he wants to. I'm not even stopping him posting that he likes emo. So what.

But you JamesLofton... I think your post was rather hypocritical. You're sayin' that I'm not allowing someone to have an opinion, yet by saying that, you're not allowing ME to have an opinion.

Now quit being such a baby and learn to deal with the fact that SOME people just don't give a shit what you think!

i hate emo for the most part, don't get me wrong. but it is hard for me to take someone's music opinion seriously that has 'skynard' in their screen name.

So you don't like Lynyrd Skynyrd. Big deal. I'm not judging Damien24 for liking emo. His comments are as valid as the next man's. And so are mine. You can't judge someone on what they like. Actually, you can't judge ANYONE you've not even heard of before.

Anyway. Can we get back to the topic now? Are we done fighting now? Or are you two gunna keep bludgeoning me with pointless comments about how "pathetic" I am for expressing my opinions and having a sense of humor?

avenged sevenfold, buckcherry, or backyard babies. any of those 3 would be awesome!!

i'd probably vote for backyard babies since i've never gotten to see them live yet, and because their stateside appearances are few and far between. they're huge in sweden though i hear.

There my favorite "mainstream" band second only to Velvet Revolver.

New Guns will probably beat Weezer once they release there shit but still... #3 and #2 on my favorite "currently making quality music" list would be awsome! ;D

Adler's Appetite should open, then Velvet Revolver could take to the stage followed by the new GnR.
Then the fans will get to hear 'It's So Easy' three times in one night  :hihi:

They could do what Metallica did and have a cover band of GnR open the show. Then the fans get to see The old 1980's GnR followe by the new GnR. Metallica's fans loved the Metallica cover band, and Mettallica were impressed too.

Any other ideas?

i don't think they respect Axl too much, their video for Perfect Situation is making fun of him.? the girl rock star in the video is what they think of Axl.

AUDIOSLAVE OR DARKNESS.

or VR...: ok:

I donot think GnR fans think too much of Weezer. Weezer opend for GnR in 2002 at London Arena. While the GnR fans were buying popcorn and drinks and slowly entering the building, Weezer were doing there thing. I got to see 2 Weezer somgs before they left the stage, and fans were still entering the building. Seemed the fans were they only to see GnR. To be fair, i do like just one Weezer song, it's the Buddy Holly song and Weezer closed with this song. So that was something

Ha nope... We're only playing on there two dates in Alberta, Canada.
Infact they it might only be one because apperently it got out that we're under 18 lol
The second gig is in a club owned by our drummers uncle so he didn't care but the first one is some guy we hardly know so we're having some issues with him... Although I think the shit will be straightend out before hand as my gutiar teacher (The guitarist in the second band on the bill) is really tight with the owner of that club and said he'll try pulling some strings to get him to let us play.

Avenged Sevenfold are a poser band. They're obsessed with trying to be as Gn'Rlike as possible, without being a tribute band, and without the talent.

They also all wear the same thing, and you can't distinguish the bandmembers from each other as they have no personal style, they're just going by what they think is "cool" and should reeeeally fuck the hell off. They're NOTHING on Gn'R and never will be! EVER!

I'd rather see Gn'R tour with Bitchney Spears than with Avenged. That way, she'd get murdered by the amount of broken glass bottles chucked at her at full force from an angry crowd, and we'd get to see Gn'R afterwards!! What an awesome show!! A murdered globally-hated manufactured pop abomination, and a legendary band coming back after a decade and a half of waiting! :peace:

Alice Cooper, The Screaming Jets, and Guns N' Roses should do a few shows together. That would kick so much arse.

 :peace:

I'd go for Alice Cooper if he didn't play any of his new material... he needs to really reinvent himself in a different way to become interesting again.

:peace:
chill out ! no one said avenged is any where near as good as guns. and i'm not a britney fan but wishing a mother dead is just wrong.............bad karma if you ask me.

avenged sevenfold, buckcherry, or backyard babies. any of those 3 would be awesome!!

avenged sevenfold would kick ass, they're awesome live and they love the new gnr. to quote synyster "they're fucking awesome"

how about the Chili Peppers....They are touring at the same time......
gnr would have to open for the chili's now. i mean the chili's sold out hyde park 3 nights in a row, no other band has done that ever.

they sound nothing like GnR, are one of the few bands around today that can write strong songs and actually have a guitarist who is capable of playing strong solos and leads. so where you draw you comparisons from is beyond me.

and you think the members look like each other?

i don't see much similar there aside from tats.

now on topic, add the fact that they are getting popular now amoungst younger people to the mix of great songs and their love of GnR (both old and new) and you've got the perfect opening act.

They new a new hard rock band to open. Someone who can bring in more fans to fill up arenas (if they tour the us) bands like CKY and Mix Master mike will not help.  If GnR wants to get new fans and be taken serious as a contender for new rock they can't tour with someone like Alice Cooper (whom I do love) but rather a new hard rock band that has 2 big singles.

buckcherry...a HIGHLY underrated band that deserves the recognition....they just got back together and have a new album coming out...much like gnr, they are on a comeback....plus their old school rock style would be a good fit

I LOVE buckcherrys first and second disc and Josh Todd's solo stufff...but have you heard the new album? ....? :(? ?I was really really disappointed.

are you nuts?? their new album is supposed to be their best yet...and todd's solo stuff wasn't that great...

maybe you should give it another listen...because everyone says it kicks ass

yeah, i must be CRAZY for having my own opinion!!?!?!?? ?:hihi:? ?Honestly, I was so disappointed, when a song comes on my IPod I just hit skip.? Very very lame effort.

Have you even heard it yourself? or you're just calling me crazy from what other people you've talked to have said about it??? ? ::)

Back on topic - I've only heard one AX7 song in its entirety and that was "bat country".? Pretty lame song.? Reminded me of sevendust (vocally at least).? The other songs were some dude screaming/growling and it just sounded like total noise.? Once I heard these guys "nick names" I just had to laugh.? They reek of Poser-itis.? M. Shadows?? Synister gates???? sounds like nerdy Dungeons and Dragons characters.? And the eye make up on the guitarist in that pic one dude posted....oh please.? I'll have to listen to other songs to get the full picture, but all the reviews I've heard make a lot of Priest and Maiden references, which would be cool if AX7 actually sounded like them ;)? I see another band that is here today, gone tomorrow.

Give em a go, AX7 aren't that bad as some people are making them about to be. Yeah, 'Waking the Fallen' is mostly screaming vocals but that works for me...their latest album is more rock but with elements of maiden, metallica and pantera.

As for nick names what about 'Slash' and 'Duff'? GN'R all used to wear make up when they fist started out as well...

Lara Avenged Sevenfold are NOT good. They're fake and poserish. When you listen to a song of theirs... you think for half of it "Hey this is OK... could be good!" but then all of a sudden it goes all emo and shitty and you turn it off...

That's basically A7X.

And to think they think that they're the new generation's answer to Guns N' Roses....

I think The White Stripes would be good to open for Gn'R... or Jack White's new band... The Raconteurs (I think that's what they're called...)...

There's just a thing that's bothering me slightly... Avenged Sevenfold... why SEVENfold?

Well... here's my theory: Avenged Sevenfold translates into A7X. And we all know how much they loooove Guns N' Roses or how they're supposed to love Gn'R...

Take A7X... turn the 7 upside down and you get ALX. Switch the L and the X around and you get AXL.

I wonder if they knew that when they picked the name, or is it just coincidence? :o ???

Im not a fan of a re-union, I love GNR just the way they are, I support the current members and everything theyre doing.  BUT some still want the original line up.  So this is what I say.  GNR should tour with VR, play seperately then for the closing have the original line up play PC for the farewell we never got in 93.  Then after the tour, let that be the end of it.

Hmmm... opening bands.  Young, innovative, exciting... a band that can really get the audience pumped for the biggest spectical they are about to witness... beats me!! :)

I do know Bullet for my Valentine (or whatever they were called) were simply terrible.  They were a step up from Mix Master Mike or whatever.  But they were not all that great either.  To me, their music was simply loud, annoying, noise.

BFMV was not the best opening band.  However, I do have to give them some credit.  The last show, their guitar tech had to play bass.  The bassist's father became terminal over in England and he had to go back to be with his family.  They made an effort to play rather then letting the GNR fans down by canceling.  If they cancelled last minute, GNR may have had to either cancel or something like that.  I dunno....just seems like it could have been a bad scene if they didn't show up for some reason.

Well, for one, I'm not sure they would be able to get someone else to fill the spot in time....the fans would have to wait around for a LONG time before GNR came on...GNR fans have a tendancy to panic if they have to wait too long....things like that.

I agree. I didn't like them at all, but it took some guts and a lot of heart to play the final show. Knowing the bassist's father was seeing his last days, knowing a Guns crowd was going to fuck with them and didnt wanna hear them, they came out and gave the show everything they had. I'm not a fan, but they have some serious respect from me, because it's obvious they do it for the music.

I just came across this page and it's 24 pages long.
I'm not thumbing through 24 pages to see if my choices have already been said...I'm sure they probably have, but either Buckcherry or Wolfmother??  Mars Volta?  Lacuna Coil?

If you're talking about the ORIGINAL burlesque show, then yes.

That atrocity of a "band" who ALSO call themselves the Pussycat Dolls should be shot by a firing squad after having their kneecaps removed with a blunt scalpel and their eyes melted out Hostel style.

Okie...

LORDI should support Gn'R! ;D

I wasn't being serious about the Pussycat Dolls....!  :P
Although I think they would be more fun than Bullet....

Lordi sounds good!  ;D

Bullet are pretty damn shitty also though...

Lordi are good though! ;D

Thanx, SkynyrdGirl!? I was gonna check some of their stuff out, but now i guess i'll postpone it...

You SHOULD check some of their stuff out, 'cause they are a great band. Why listen to ONE person and then decide not to give them a chance?
Download some of the songs from their newest album City Of Evil and decide for yourself. I really, REALLY like A7X so you should of course listen to me instead ;)

Some great songs you should listen to are:

Beast and the harlot.
Bat country.
Seize the day.
Strength of the world.
M.I.A.

Now start being a downloading motherfucker and then tell me what you think :)? : ok:

Edit: And I'm happy with A7X opening. If they weren't, I'd go for Backyard of course :)

I do intend to check them out, I just said I'll postpone it....
After I do, I'll have my own opinion.
However, reading 2 very different opinions makes me curious....
Thanx for the must-listen-to list, I'll be the downloading motherfucker I've always been....
And I'll get back to you!  : ok:

I don't really care who it is.  If the opening act is too famous, it will be harder to get good seats because then you contend with their fans too.

I just hope its someone good or with potential, or even half way listenable!  preferably its an up and coming band which will get more people to the shows!

Wolfmother would be amazing, my first choice...

Artic Monkeys would be different, but they seem to have the attitude...

And Weezer would be a great choice as well..

Finally, if Queens of the Stone Age openned for GNR (although I'll say right now it will never happen), I'd go to every single show.

Cheers,

Andrew
