A good read, if they stick close to the book(doubtful), it would be a good movie.

Great post!  I'm reading it right now...I'm on page 520.   :)  Great book so far...and I don't care if McFiend sings like Streisand tomorrow night, my vote's for Taylor Hicks.  ;)  I'll call during commercials during Desperation.  : ok:  Damn, I hate that shallow b!tch Katharine McFiend.

I don't know how anybody can like Taylor Hicks, he doesn't have a good voice, he looks like he's 40 with all that gray hair and he acts like a dumbass on stage.

Anyways back to subject, I'm taking off work early to go see Desperation.

I'll definitely be checking this out, I'm glad they put it on a night that sucks.

The last few made for tv movies that King has done were pretty good. I think I'm one of the few that liked the remake of The Shining. Storm of the Century was my favorite though, great villain in that one.

Yes Storm of the Century was great and I did like the re-make of The Shining.

Most people say they didn't like the acting as much in The re-make of the Shining as they did the original. But, I love that movie.  : ok:

I didnt think there was anything wrong with the acting in the tv version of The Shining, it just wasnt the over the top performance that Jack Nicholson gave in the movie. Hell if anything at least the tv version was true to the book. Kubrick took alot of liberties with the film version.

So how was it?

I missed the first hour and didnt want to jump into it at the middle. I'll wait for the DVD.

Anybody see it?

I watched the first 2 hours....but missed the last hour (it's on TIVO..we'll catch it tonight).

It was...odd.  Now, that may change when I see the last hour, and get some more information, but....

Just based on the first 2 hours, it was very odd.

Sounds like most of the details...though the dick sucking, at least in the first 2 hours, was not present.  ;)

Yes, it was a very odd movie but it was very ood book. But, they left out so many details in the movie (probably because they had to do 2 hours of a movie and 1 hour of commercials :( ), that if you didn't read the book, it might have seemed like a strange movie.

The DVD comes out in July 2006.

But, here's the story of Desperation:

People in the town of desperation start digging up an old abandoned mine and they unleash an ancient evil called: "Tak." It enters human bodies as it's host and at the beginning of the movie, it's in Collie Entraigan, who is the cop dude. He arrests people that are out on the highway because the town of desperation has been destroyed.

So, then the cop leaves with the mother of the 12 year old boy, the 12 year old boy whose name is David, puts soap all over his body so he can slide out of the jail cell. Then he gets out, runs out, finds a gun and kills the dog that is Tak's Security Guard. Then, he lets out the people.

So, Tak comes back but this time is in the body of David's mother. The 2nd half drags on a bit but Johnny Marinville, the author, finally goes into the mine, and pretty much blows up the whole thing and Tak is destroyed, the end. So, that's the story.

I don't know where you guys got that he made somebody suck his dick. That was kind of out there.

Markus,
Have you watched any of the Idol?  Really watched it??  The chick McFee has no emotional connection to her music whatsoever.  Hicks may not be a "great" vocalist, but the guy sings from his heart.  I guarantee you that when the rejected Idol finalists are allowed to talk, they'll describe what a shallow b!tch McFee is.  There have been at least 12 separate instances of this chick demonstrating her arrogance and inability to connect with the song she sings.  She's a cute little rich girl with no life experience.  I hope Hicks proves nice guys don't finish last.  :peace:

P.S.  true story, I'm still finishing reading Desperation, a story with a rampaging, murderous cop.  Family's asleep late last night, 11:00 the doorbell rings.  It was a cop!  Some sort of banged-up car was parked out on the street near my house.  Yup, it scared me a little bit!   :nervous:

With such strong opinions, you must know her personally, right?  Or perhaps you know the other finalists, since you can "guarantee" what their opinions are.

Or maybe you are getting just a little too worked up over a tv show?

That would have been very hard to do since the movie didn't come out in the 80's...it was 1979  :hihi:.

Ah you're right. I was gonna say 70s because I knew my Mom watched it in her day when it first came out, but I thought the book was released late 70s, and they wouldn't have got a chance to hurry a movie immediately after. Total B-Movie though, hilarious!

Sterling-  Of course I'm getting too worked-up over a tv show!  It's part of the fun!  Seriously, how much you wanna bet when the sh!t hits the fan, the other Idol finalists will spill the dirt on McFiend.   : ok:  My bet is that it'll come anonymously at first.  They have to tour as a group for a year or so if I'm not mistaken.  I'm sure there are clauses to prevent the real dirt from disseminating.  Just a question, do you really think McFee felt the music?  I didn't and don't.  Hmm, did ya ever wonder why she has zero friends at the shows or on trips back to her home?   :peace:

back on topic:  I'm still not finished reading Desperation...Here Today's keeping me from my book!   :)

My favorite King movies are Misery, Green Mile, and Carrie.

No I never did.  For one thing she's from Sherman Oaks, where celebrities and their relatives are probably a dime a dozen.  So I don't expect the locals to get excited over an American Idol contestent.

Also, who the hell knows if someone "feels" the music.  Do you think Hicks' moves aren't choreographed?  If not, why did he try so hard to kick the microphone stand?  Also, I'm thinking his IQ might be 10 points over legally retarded.  Not that you have to be smart to dance like Elaine from Seinfeld.

But we either better drop the AI discussion or take it to a different thread.

Elaine's dance, priceless :) That show was great. On topic, I've never really liked Stephen King... I think part of the reason is the "ph" in Stephen. That's always been one of my pet peeves, spelling Steven with a ph. If people want to spell it that way fine, but pronounce it like Stephanie (without the "e" sound at the end of course). The other reason I've never been into Stephen King probably has to do with the fact that I'm more into comedies than horror films/books.

Anybody notice that "Fall to Pieces" was playing on the radio near the beginning of the movie?

There's going to be a mini-series called "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" (some stories from King's collection of short stories by the same name some from other places) on T.N.T. next month.  I'm looking forward to a few of them...especially "You Know They Have a Hell of a Band".  That was a very cool short story.
