Title: GnR Unplugged Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on May 20, 2006, 02:08:27 AM I can't even remember the last time MTV did an Unplugged worth anything. GnR playing an acoustic set, which formerly seemed like a pipedream, sort of opens the door for this. And the setlist they played last night, with another 4 or 5 songs sprinkled in, would be an amazing Unplugged album. Doesn't hurt to hope :smoking:
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: GetInTheJungle on May 20, 2006, 02:10:05 AM I share that dream
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Chief on May 20, 2006, 02:10:53 AM who cares about MTV, they should just film their own little acoustic set and throw it on a bonus dvd with the album or include it with the other filmed footage for a new GNR dvd!!
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: GetInTheJungle on May 20, 2006, 02:14:57 AM I believe the demand would be great for that - And it would be a nice added feature/thanks to us fans.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: johnnythunders24 on May 20, 2006, 02:16:14 AM last accustic set was hartford '93 i think
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on May 20, 2006, 02:28:56 AM Not to mention an Unplugged album and concert aired on MTV would be a great way to introduce the new band to the general public
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: SWINGTRADER on May 20, 2006, 02:44:39 AM I don't really care if this band did an MTV unplugged or not.? It should have been done during the Illusion era with the old band. The old band had more chemistry and would have pulled it off great.? This lineup needs to grow as a band and release a couple albums before they even think of doing an MTV unplugged.? ?The impromptu? accoustic session at Dawson's birthday party was a good start.? That's how you start becoming a real band.? ?
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: odd1 on May 20, 2006, 04:57:43 AM last accustic set was hartford '93 i think Actually it was just a couple a days ago....... But yes it would be sweet   Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Origen on May 20, 2006, 05:04:39 AM last accustic set was hartford '93 i think All the Skin N Bones tour of 1993 had a acoustic set. who cares about MTV, they should just film their own little acoustic set and throw it on a bonus dvd with the album or include it with the other filmed footage for a new GNR dvd!! I agree, we don't need a MTV unplugged, if they release what they did the other night as a bonus on a new DVD ro somethink then that would be good enough. Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: TWT on May 20, 2006, 06:17:45 AM While MTV is terribly unfashionable nowadays, an upside to any such gig being an MTV Unplugged performance would obviously be that it would be professionally filmed and shown on TV.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: mrlee on May 20, 2006, 08:10:39 AM last accustic set was hartford '93 i think well ive got multiple 93 acoustic sets lol, i even have the footage of there very last gig together, sadly its cut..come to think of it *goes to appetite for collection* Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Neemo on May 20, 2006, 09:39:22 AM Does MTV do unplugged still?
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: SADIS on May 20, 2006, 10:22:13 AM MTV? Isn't that where they used to play music video's? Does anybody even watch that channel?
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: JDA on May 20, 2006, 10:23:31 AM I think that is a really cool idea. It would be fun to see.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: BKinNYC on May 20, 2006, 10:31:04 AM Yeah, MTV will air a Gn'R unplugged, right after a "My Sweet 16 Marathon," an all new episode of "Yo Momma," and the season finale of "The Real World." ::)
MTV is a joke. Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: jameslofton29 on May 20, 2006, 10:38:10 AM Does MTV do unplugged still? No they dont. I dont watch MTV, but I think the last Unplugged was Alicia Keys a few years ago. A more viable option would be VH1 Storytellers. :beer:Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: GetInTheJungle on May 20, 2006, 10:45:22 AM MTV is now about shows - not music anymore.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: TWT on May 20, 2006, 10:58:31 AM I don't know how it works in the US, but MTV2 and VH2 (and VH1) show videos in the UK pretty much throughout the day. The live shows tend to always be shown on those subsidiary channels now as well.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Neemo on May 20, 2006, 11:04:35 AM haha then exactly what is this thread supposed to accomplish? :-\
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: jameslofton29 on May 20, 2006, 11:12:09 AM haha then exactly what is this thread supposed to accomplish? :-\ Absolutely nothing. The guy should have done a VH1 Storytellers thread. It is still a relevant show, and actually even better than Unplugged. The artists performing there talk about the creation of each song. I have always loved this show. The tom Petty Storytellers was incredible. Found out Free Falling is pretty much a meaningless song. He was just playing his guitar, and came up with those chessy lyrics on the spot. It was funny how he described it. Definitely watch it if they ever replay it. Great Petty performance. Another great Storytellers is Culture Club. Boy George kicked ass at that show, and the 3 new songs they played there were amazing.Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on May 20, 2006, 02:00:13 PM I think everyone realizes MTV sucks now especially compared to what it was before when they actually played videos. But it is still one of the more powerful media outlets when it comes to giving exposure to musicians, especially younger viewers. Who cares if MTV sucks? Does that mean you wouldn't watch a GnR Unplugged or buy the album? I doubt it

But it is still one of the more powerful media outlets when it comes to giving exposure to musicians, especially younger viewers.? Who cares if MTV sucks?? Does that mean you wouldn't watch a GnR Unplugged or buy the album?? I doubt it oh i see. yeah I'd buy it for sure but you talked about them doing an MTV Unplugged, and people were just saying it prolly wouldn't happen. the old gnr unplugged was a bootleg BTW. also there is tons of speculation that the show was made for some kinda official release in the main thread for the show :peace: Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Bostonrose on May 20, 2006, 02:28:23 PM Said birthday girl Dawson of Rose: "They've never played all acoustic, this is history in the making, how much does this fucking man rock?!"
Umm?? CBGB's in the 80s They did a whole set during the UYI tour, (the skin and bones tour) If she is talking about the new band than she is just a twat, they've only played 15 shows?? at this point everything is history in the making Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: jimb0 on May 20, 2006, 02:39:30 PM I was going to point that out, but decided not to. She doesn't even deserve what she got if she said that.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: duga on May 20, 2006, 02:41:20 PM Maybe she ment "New GNR" ;)
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Olorin on May 20, 2006, 02:43:09 PM Of course she meant new gnr.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: jimb0 on May 20, 2006, 02:46:07 PM SURE
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: HoldenCaulfield on May 20, 2006, 03:09:41 PM I'm sure she's a moron but I'll defend her and say she meant the new band...
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Neemo on May 20, 2006, 04:26:09 PM well cbgb's was only like 5 or 6 songs and not many people know about the CBGB's show out side of the internet community....and the "set" in '93 was part of a concert and the rest of the concert was electric :P
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: electricmage on May 20, 2006, 06:08:36 PM Maybe she ment "New GNR"? ;) I really doubt she knew the difference. These people who find is fashionable to like rock n roll... She meant Gn'R as a whole. She probably only knew the names of Slash and Axl back in the day. Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Dr. Blutarsky on May 20, 2006, 06:18:20 PM Calling MTV Music Television in 2006 is a joke. I'm sure the founders of the channel must hate what it has become. Seems to me in the mid/late 90's it went to shit.
GNR would have a better chance on VH1 of doing something, like storytellers or something like that. Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: estranged.1098 on May 20, 2006, 06:34:56 PM It was probably Axl that told her that was the first time they were doing that, I don't know how the hell you guys can complain.
Title: Re: GnR Unplugged Post by: Axlfreek on May 20, 2006, 06:36:34 PM Not to mention an Unplugged album and concert aired on MTV would be a great way to introduce the new band to the general public unfortunatly the VMA's beat it to it |
