Title: OK, I bet you guys something. Skid Row with Baz will open for GnR
Post by: Montrealrocks on May 19, 2006, 11:17:34 PM
Sunday,  Skid Row will say that they are reforming with original members, and mark my words:  They will open for GnR on the Nort-American leg of the tour.

Baz was in New-York to play with Axl, but he was there to negociate as well.

You'll see I say the truth pretty soon

It is stupid considernig baz starts recording his new album in a few week and he has shows booked for this summer with his band in Europe. Plus he said earlier tonight on VH1 that his solo band might be opening for guns later this year.

I don't know that I actually believe it will happen, but I'd be pretty excited if it did. ?One other thing to add here is that on the Trunk show before Axl showed up Sebastian said that Axl got his number from "Doc" and Doc McGhee was the manager of the original Skid Row and wasn't really on good terms with Sebastian for a long while. ?I guess that his having his cell number now could also be attributed to his involvement in the Supergroup show though.

Also, this Metal Sludge is reporting that there will be a mystery reunion announced by the end of the weekend. ?They predict Skid Row, but don't really seem to have "inside" info that leads them there. ?(Going back to my previous point, also says "big name managers involved")

Could you all imagine if that actually happend?? that would be the biggest concert tour of the last 10 years for sure... or more

And this must be the biggest overstatement of the last 10 years!! Skid Row, I mean come on, those guys were barely big back in 89-90. They even had that Slash ripoff guitarist, what was his name, Snake or Spike or some shit. Some people in here need to quit drining Axl's Kool-Aid.

They'd be a typical opening act where everyone was in the parking lot drinking while their set was on, as soon as they were done, people would head in to see GnR. And besides, isn't he doing some reality show on VH1?? Sebastian Bach would be soo much better off joining a supergroup a la Audioslave & VR.? What's Kim Thayill of Soundgarden doing these days??

uh they were huge and no1 would be in the parking lot except you.  u are clueless.  they also did not have a slash rip off guitarist.  Have you ever even listened to them?  Just because Slash and Snake both start with an "s" does not mean Snake was a rip off.

Haha the first poster is clueless. Skid Row were huge for two albums - Slave to the Grind debuted at Number One on billboard but after that they ?bombed big time. I saw Bach's solo act last year it was lame, outdated hair farmer metal.

It amazes me that all these old bands that were mediocre back in their day are still around. It just shows that there is NOTHING out there for you poor fuckers to hold on to... i mean where is the next NIRVANA or 86-87 G'n'R? Where the fuck is the next band that can change the world cuz it sure isn't Nu-Guns or Seb Bach! ?

Exactly. I always liked Skid Row, and Slave to the Grind is a kick ass album, but nobody cares anymore. There is zero demand for a reunion. It would be as relevant as a Slaughter, Warrant, Kix, or Trixter reunion. Couldn't sell out a tent.

LMAO, "stupid grunge"???!!! The Seattle scene was amazing and rightly buried all those shite cock rock bands. I'll take Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees etc over the likes of Warrant, Slaughter, Skid Row and Cinderella etc any day of the week. There's a reason grunge buried that cheesy dated crap. Only the good shit like Metallica and Guns'n'Roses were able to compete b/c they were actually good enough!

Too bad Skid Row isnt really a band you can group in with the likes of Warrent considering they were real metal. I doubt this is true.. Baz has a solo album coming out soon and just put together a talented band. And for those sayin Skid Row is a rip off of GnR.. Get a fuckin clue.

I grouped them together because they were all popular at the same time, and faded from the scene around the same time. In no way, shape, or form are those bands I listed as good as Skid Row was.

Skid Row is still ogt a following.. And so does Baz.. Now take those Skid Row fans would stuck wit Skid Row with out Baz and then those who left and started to listen to Baz solo shit.. You got a pretty good following for an opening slot. And once people here Skid Row with Baz.. It will draw people.

I personally wouldn't mind it, I was a fairly decent Skid Row fan back in the day (slave to the grind is an AWESOME album with a lot of good songs), but to the masses, Skid Row wasnt' an upper echelon band.  If memory serves correct, they had 1-2 big songs (18 and life, I'll remember you).  Slave to the grind might have sold ok, but it didn't have a WTTJ, PC, SCOM hit in it.   And then after that, well, nobody cares.

The best kind of opening act is a new band that is up and coming and creating a lot of buzz (much like Guns was when they were still on opening act status).   Thats why I liked the A7X choice.  Skid Row I think would make most people  :hihi: a little bit.

I love Skid Row, but even on the Illusion tour you could see GNR moving away from those kinds of bands.  Skid Row did the first leg of the tour, and from that point on it was almost nothing but whoever the hot alt rock band was at the time.

Good point, but I think an album as good as Slave to the grind would have to be made for people to get interested again. A reunion for the sake of a reunion isn't going to create much buzz.

For a opening slot they really dont need to put an album out.. it just creates more buzz for the GnR camp. Not a lot.. but enough to get better attendence state side this time around.

yes, those songs were hits, but you NEVER hear them on the radio today (unless its like 80s hair metal hour, and even then if you hear skid row, its probably 18 and life or i'll remember you).  My point was they didn't put out BIG hit after hit like GNR did - songs that still resonate today.  Don't get me wrong, I still listen to my slave to the grind CD every now and then, its a very under rated album, but I don't think it'd be a good choice for GNR to have SR open for them.  let me put it this way:

If you heard the ORIGINAL skid row was getting together AND the ORIGINAL GNR were back, which would you (and most likely the world) be more excited for?  The former wouldn't even register a mention in most newspapers/magazines while the latter would be front page/cover material for every music magazine out there.

I see your point but if they want to appeal to the audience that will be attending the GnR shows.. Skid Row would fit in especially with the average age of most non die hards today..

Yeah, Axl's going to let a reformed Skid Row still any spotlight?  The opener's will be some lame ass band that everyone will hate...(CKY, BFMV, Mix Master Mike etc..)  ok maybe not hate, but not another abnd with a fan base that will pull from a GNR crowd like Metallica did...

besides Skid Row fucking sucks : ok:

didn't they have a vid for wasted time too?
Yeah they sure did. I believe it was the last video from that album.
but a better point is that they will not reunite :hihi:
 Im not sure. Is there a Mysteron at the Skid Row forums that can confirm or deny this? :hihi:

:hihi: Well as i recall the skid row breakup was the mother of all breakups...and don't quote me on it but i think Bach said something to the effect of he was embarrassed by what skid row accomplished....besides i read that they are going to release a new album shortly....their second with the 'new' singer.

thanks for the informed opinion on SkidRow bostonrose but nobody asked or cares you if you liked them or not ::)

Don't know if they had any videos for the last album with Baz, Subhuman Race. (Great album by the way) MTV was becoming reality tv at that point and weren't playing too many videos anymore, certainly not hard rock videos. When they started playing more reality shows than videos that's when MTV died for me and everyone I know. Thought the "M" stood for music not reality. Sad.

They also didnt let him in on the writing most of the time. So he said something to the affect of "Fuck you" and left.. So he said on some TV show a while back.

Sebastian Bach won't join the Skid Row guys. And you know why? He's fucking happy with his solo band!! He's also making a lot of money right now, with all these TV things he's doing like Gilmore Girls and VH1, he will start to record his next album called "Angel Down" and he didn't started to record it already because of some problems with the record company(go to his website to know more).

By the way: he's solo band is amazing!!! The best band that sebastian ever played in his fucking life! And I had the chance to hear this from Sebastian Bach himself last year!! He's really happy with his solo band right now, he won't throw it away becaue of some reunion with Skid Row...

I'd bet on a tour with GN'R and his solo band : ok:

Some of the writing on that first album is so dated it makes me cringe. ..

"I made my move with my libido on, She circled once and then she dropped the bomb...
She got the big guns pointed at my heart, bang bang shooting like a firing squad" ?

"She was a ballerina on a subway train, stilletto heels and a candy cane" ?

"Got my heels and lookin' pretty on a Saturday night, night, night" ?

dated as FUCK!

I think the worst is:

Shake, shake, shake it like a rattlesnake / Boom, boom baby out go the lights / Shake, shake, shake it like a rattlesnake / Staying up late doing the rattlesnake shake

I love Skid Row but the first record is absolut shit!!! There's just a few good songs like Youth, 18 and life and I Remember you.

Slave to the Grind is a classic and Subhuman Race is amazing but sadly people see it as the worst record...

Im pretty sure there wont be a Skid Row reunion as Rachel Boland has a major stick up his ass when it comes to Baz.

I read an interview with him in FHM or something, just like 5 questions and he said "I miss him (Baz) like I miss genital warts"

Actually MTV showed videos pretty much up until after the Backstreet Boys/ N' Sync craze.. In January 1992 a song from a band Nirvana (vagueness intended) was played in heavy rotation, and bands like Skid Row, Warrant, Poison & Motley Crue were never heard from again. Instead, bands such as Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees were played. A few years later, a second generation of rockers began recieving air time, such as Green Day, Offspring, Bush, Weezer, Tool, STP.

You can say what you want about the 1st Skid Row album, but if you look at the era as a whole it kicks some ass! Besides, Jon Bon Vagina held some sort of creative control over that album, and Slave was a big fuck you to JBV. It's funny the shit my brain has retained from reading metal magazines back in the day. It's the stuff from high school classes I have trouble with. Too busy looking at the girl's asses in the tight jeans all around me (that is when I made it to class).  ;D

they did a video for Breakin' Down off of Subhuman Race it was pretty much just to promote a movie The Prophecy staring Christopher Walken the song played during most of the trailors for the movie and the video had scenes from it mixed in

there's a video for "into another" from Subhuman Race too. i have it around here somewhere. i think the quality isn't the best though.

Bach and Skid Row reuniting is about as likely as a GnR reunion. I happen to know Scotti, Dave, and Rachel. they won't take Bas back. Bank on that!
