Not a bad idea Jarmo.  It'll save some clutter.  At any rate, are we all just waiting to find out how to get tickets or does someone have a legit idea where they may be available?  I'm guess I'll end up getting ripped a new asshole by a ticket broker.

If anyone from Toronto is planning on going, I 'may' be able to give you a drive down.
I'm 99% sure I can go so if I get tickets then I'd be up for doing a road trip.  Let me know if anyone is interested.

Also if anyone from the board has the opportunity to get extra tickets, please get them because I'm sure that someone on the board is going to miss out and at worst you can sell them to scalpers.

FYI - anyone who's looking for a hotel in downtown NYC thats reasonably priced (well, reasonably for Downtown NYC) - This one isn't bad.

A few of us are going to be staying there... its about the only hotel I've found in the downtown manhattan area for less than 200 US per night.

In addition - a proposal to anyone from the board who's going.  We're considering organizing outside of the Hamerstein pretty early on Monday (like 7-9 AM or so).  Basically to hold our position in line for GA admission.  We'd kind of like to do it in shifts so that the position is still held while people run to the bathroom, go get lunch, run to their rooms, whatever.  Anyone who wants in to help us with that, let me know via PM or whatever.

(This is all in reference to the show on the 15th)

You try that and you're bound to get grief from the people who are already in line before you're there.  It's basically a line cut and GA folks, as friendly as they can be while waiting outside, will usuallly have none of that.  If you plan on waiting all day, organize the line with numbers and a list in order of arrival - I did that for U2 and it worked out just fine (of course, I ended up front row, so perhaps my opinion is biased - but that's just my experience).

i think they are talking about waiting in the admission line to get the best possible spots on the general admission floor space.  showing up 20 minutes before the show will most likely get you a spot along the back wall.  i see the point but i'm trying to get to the second show and won't be in town till mid afternoon most likely.

Just want to introduce myself...my name is Joel and I'm from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I troll around on the mygnr.com and velvet-revolver.com msg boards. Mostly the VR one until the recent lull. I'm hopefully planning on going to the 2nd show although I'd like to do both? I'm def'n hoping to get 4 tickets, and hopefully spread the extras around here. Anyway, good luck to everybody with pre-sales and such...I think the only long-standing question is...whom will show up to play?!

Also, check out the Hotel Wolcott if you are looking for an affordable hotel in the area. That's where I stayed last year, really good, and they even provide some muffins and coffee for bfast.

P.S. Definately open to after-party ideas, maybe we can collectively book Camp Freddy? Aha.

P.P.S. Just signed up for the mailing list with my VR account...I'm really happy the band is agreeing to do this! I got my ticket to see VR in a Toronto club off the board. And ultimately it is the boards that stemmed the spread of the new songs, as well we are the hardcore fans that have stuck by GNR for this long.

I had  a theory it may be Avenged Sevenfold, their playing Hammerstein right after GNR, they love GNR and the nights of the GNR shows their schedule is dark. Nothing tabboo or controversial that I wrote about.

I wish I could go to the new york show cause there's a lot of members I like going to the show as well as the party. But, I'm on the west coast so maybe later on if he decides to go to vegas, california or obviousily if he comes to my state, I'll defin. go.

IT'S OFFICIAL (well if I can get a ticket Friday  :peace:).......The Billster is coming to NEW YORK CITY to see the Gunners.  Sure last time in Philly didn't work out so well, but I'm putting all my faith in mr. Axl.  I am unfamiliar to NYC so I plan on just showing up for the first show since I have to be back in PA the next day.  Probably end up staying in NYC the night of the 15th so if there are any afterpartys and such, I shall be there to drink it up.  To the few of you I met in Philly, it was a great time (hell I don't know if they're even still on this board, it's been a while since I've really followed it), but I look forward to meeting you all.  Shit this is gonna rock.

I know many of you probably don't know the city that well but getting to hammerstein is very easy by train, I see some big ass hotel prices for manhattan.. I would get a room in brooklyn or queens map everything out, pay about 100 dollars a night and take the train into manhattan and back to the hotel/motel... You could even take a cab back and pay less then you would for one nyc hotel... Plus if you parked in brooklyn or queens it would be free so you'd save another 25 bucks or more..

I know it's about convienence, but I am sure some of you are strapped for cash.. if you are flying in both airports are in Queens anyways

if my girlfriend does not come to NYC, i'd be happy to share a room with some people here.

newark is the way to go. smart move.

i believe you can take a free monorail from the airport to Newark Airport train station.

then you have 2 options depending on where you are staying:

1. MIDTOWN: take NJ Transit to Penn Station (NY) for $14. this is midtown, about 2 blocks from the Hammerstein.

2. Lower Manhattan: take NJ Transit one stop to Newark Penn Station for about $6, and then jump on the PATH train ($2), which will take you to the WTC site in Lower Manhattan (financial district).

I don't think I'd be nearly excited as if my extended family wasn't going to be there... To think I will meet at least 100 gnr fans where I can talk and not type while having beers and waiting to see axl live again.. I'd pick up ten tickets if I could to help hook you guys up..

I got my tickets as well. Only two (I was nervous about getting more than I personally needed and accidently screwing someone else who couldn't get any cause I got extra) so I won't have any to give away. This is so exciting. I was too young to see them back in the day and I got hosed in Philly in 2002. I can't wait to get my ass kicked by GNR!

Fuck those motherfucking scalpers, they should be reported to ticket master and their tickets recalled.

I have 1 UpperMezz ticket for the 17th.  I'm still interested in buying 2 tickets for my friends, so if anyone has any extra please PM me.  I understand, however, you should give preference to any die-hard members that still do not have tickets.  It's only fair that they get 1st dibs.

Have the shows sold out yet?  Anyone think that there will still be tix available tomorrow for the rest of of schleps who don't have presale access?  Man I hope so.  I so don't want to miss this.

The line (now) from Sanctuary is that 75% of the total tickets were sold during the presales (most of them in the 1st presale).

There's about 25% of the tickets available for general sale.

The interesting part?  That's a direct flip of what usually happens.  Usually somewhere around 30% go on sale for the presale, with 70% going on general sale.

Management did everything they could to try to help us out, obviously.

Well that's the way it should be really, tickets go to the diehards first, sucks for me, but what can you do, I'll have to take my chances tomorrow morning I guess, well wish me luck.

Has anybody been to this venue before? I think I got 8 tickets to 2nd Level Mezzanie! I know alot of people will be angry for me complaining, but does this mean I can't go on the floor? Can you still see this well? I think I might sell them all at face value to get 4 floor tickets from a scalper.

I didn't manage to buy any tickets today, am so glad that there are two more shows added, but don't know if I can get any tickets.

Do you have any tips of how to buy two tickets.

I can only make it to the May 14 show as I am working in Long Island.

I have officially planned my trip.

I will be driving up on Thursday with 3 friends most likely. We will then be crashing at a buddys house and attending the friday pre-party (most likely mustang harry's again.) Saturday I will need a place to play poker if possible.. does anyone know of any Poker Clubs in New York? I'd like to play really bad on my trip and Saturday would be my day. On Sunday I most likely would attend the 2nd show or just chill at a hotel by myself as my buddys will be driving back home on that day. Monday, will be Mustang Harry's (The Biggest Day I Believe for us HTGTH users), I'll be there and then attend the gnr show and most likely an after party.... I most likely will then fly home Tues morning very early, I'll take a cab to the airport. I will need to find someone to host the Wed party, I already have it set up!!!!!

Let me know if you can give me any info on cheapest hotel or a poker club!!!

i rather be on the first mezz.. I don't know if I personally need to fight my way to the front, I've done that enough in other shows.. The venue is small enough where I can see good from any angle, plus the mezz has height to see..

you'll make the train. Concerts in midtown are always over by 12:15 at the latest otherwise there is police intervention. Some rock clubs downtown let them play until 1am.

Well, I went into www.hostels.com and I found a 20 mins walking hostel to stay... I mean, you have to share the room... but for 47 USD per night and free breakfast.... It's Gn'R, man..... anything goes...... if you want extra help with that, you can PM me.....

back in 1991 i think it was i got stuck in nyc until 3:30 when the first bus left b/c the shows went so late

The Chelsea star hotel is where i'm saying. They have single rooms, and dorm rooms all well under 100 bucks. I'm staying in the dorms for 37.00 a night taxes in.... I'd rather share the room with fellow gunners though

I'm considering to drive, but I think I'm going to drive down to someplace like Tarrytown and take the train into the city.  I'm sure you could do something similar unless you plan on needing your car in the city.

how old are you? if you're over 21 it's not that big a deal. You can kill time in a bar which are open til 3-4am. I do it all the time. Especially during the winter , here's always a place to wait so you don't freeze.

lol...It's Axl Rose...I'm less worried about what time the concert will end and more concerned about what time it'll start. When GNR played the garden 3 years ago, the show was supposed to start at 9 and I believe it ended up started at midnight.

Was anyone else able to get over 4 tix for one show?  I was able to get 8 tix today for the 12th?  However, someone from ticket master said I got lucky and if they catch it, then they can void these tickets up until show time.  What type of shit is this?  It was my first time buying tickets from them online and I didn't know the rules.  So, I am certainly wanting to share these tix with fellow gunners, but I am afraid since Ticketmaster told me this?  Any thoughts?  Has anyone heard of this?

Never heard of that. Check the dates of yout tix when you receive them.

Thanks Throat, this is making me nervous...they actually let me buy 42 tix originally....i thought for a minute i was going to be a hero to many on this board.  But, then they cancelled nearly all of my tickets and I about puked

Mustang Harry's is a bar and restaruant. I have been there plenty of times before events at the Garden and its usually a mixed crowd. You should be fine as long as you dont drink. Hopefully if I 2 tickets I will see everyone there!

I have organized a pre-party for the dates of May 12th, 14th, 15th, and 17th. The Pre-Party is scheduled to take place at Mustang Harry's which is about 5 minutes walking distance from Hammerstein Ballroom. This bar can hold up to 400 people and will allow us to play Guns N Roses music from noon-5:30 pm on all dates before the Guns N Roses show. This will be for all ages as the bar serves food and drink.  They have arranged to start the party upstairs in their private room that holds up to 250 people and has a seperate bar. Drink specials will be $4.50 domestic beers and $5.50 well drinks when ordering house liquors. As the amount of people grows, the specials may get better, this will be decided at management's discretion. Please pm me or post in here if you plan on attending the pre-party as I have guaranteed the owner he can expect at least 50-200 people. Please feel free to bring yourself and your friends to the bar, it is clean, handicap accessible, and close to the venue. This is a perfect oppurtunity for us to meet and prepare to cheer on Guns N Roses return to the stage and ultimately their return to rock n roll glory.

I know the concerts will be general admission seating. I understand some of you will prefer to camp out in line to get the best position on the floor or mezz. I encourage you though to all work in shifts, so you'll have the oppurtunity to come over to the bar and meet fellow posters you've been posting with the last 1-7 years on this board.  Given the fact that the pre-party's start at noon, there is definitely time for every one of you to at least stop in for an hour.

These are all the details I have at this time for the pre-party, I finally recieved a letter of confirmation from the owner this morning. I hope we can all make this turn out to be a special event, it's so great that people are traveling from all over the world just to be at one of these shows.

as for hotels, maybe someone else can help you. i live here but have no idea about hotel rates. just get something in midtown. there are plenty of websites where you can research prices. hope that helps!

just start searching for cheap rates (probably between $150-200 in the city, unfortunately, per night). aim for something around 40th-59th street. there's a bunch in between that area that fall within that price category.

No seats on the floor at Hammerstein, Z.  I believe there are on the mezzenine, but I saw Iron Maiden there a couple years back and there were no seats on the floor.

So...who all has been to The Hammerstein. This place looks great! Once in a lifetime chance to see Gn'R in a venue this small! How's the sound??

I've been there once before to see Iron Maiden. ?Its a great place to see a show. ?The sound is great, actually that Iron Maiden show was the best concert I've ever been to...until May 12th I'm sure.

You know I have been going to this website for about 7 years and always was too lazy to sign up for the message board? The Hammerstein ballroom is great. I went there for ECW shows and a Tool concert. The sound was awesome and everything was cool. The only bad thing I will say, I dont know how it is for concerts but I sat in the second mezz for an ecw show and if you are towards the top of the section there are two big poles that get in your way of the ring. you can still see but it is kind of annoying. i dont know if its different for concerts, just a heads up.

I just booked a room at the Whitehouse Hotel for $28 per night.  It's basically a room the size of the bed, and the bathroom is shared.  It got a good review in my travel book.  It's located near East Village.  Can't beat the price since I won't be in the room much anyway!

I'll be there for the 12th, probably stag as my wife isn't quite the fanatic I am, so she'll be working during the day and meeting me closer to showtime. ?I haven't been posting that long, however I'm looking forward to having a few drinks, listening to some GN'R and getting to me some like minded gunners!

I have seats for the 12th on Mezz Level 1. ?I will probably get on the line around 5-5:30. ?Hopefully thats soon enough to get first few rows.

So...hope it's ok to discuss this here, but whats everyone else doing on the days around the show(s). I know a lot of us are traveling from other states and kinda making a mini vacation of it. I've never been to NYC, so very excited.

We arrive at JFK at 11:00pm on the 12th, leave at 6am on the 15th. Will have all day Sat. and the afternoon Sunday to tour the city. I know Times Square and Empire state building are on the list, maybe some good pizza too, and possibly even a broadway show if we get the time Saturday evening.

We're staying at the DoubleTree Metropolitan for $120/nt. If anyone needs help with ressies I can get you this hotel, or The Grand Hyatt for $135 (I can only get Hyatt for Saturday/Sunday nights)

I'm sure most people don't have that problem..so they wouldn't know where to sleep in a car. But, I'd imagine in a well lit area.

I'm only going to be there the 12th, but I'm going to make the most of the day.  Skipping my class and heading down early to get my spot in line.  I hope to be outside the Hammerstein around 10 or 11 that morning maybe.

The sound isn't too bad, not the best though.  It also depends on where you are, it wont be the best if you're near the front unfortunately.. for any show.  By the soundboard is generally the best spot for sound i've found.
The venue is pretty cool though, probably the perfect place for GNR to play in NYC for a small venue!! i saw the Black Crowes there last year and I had a blast!!!!

I'm coming into town for only the first show. We got booked the New Yorker Hotel which according to Mapquest is 0.0 miles from the venue. (Haha). Anyways, the plan is to get into town as early as possible (with the 10 hour drive), drop the bags off at the hotel, check out the line at the venue and then head to the pre-party.

I'll be there on the 12th! I might be in the market for a ticket on the 17th as well...want to see how the night progress and figure by the last show, many of the kinks will be worked out. Just couldn't resist going to the first show.


Anyone know if the Mezz and Mezz 2 sections have seats or is it standing room only? I realize it is unassigned, but I'm wondering whether or not there are unmarked seats in Mezz 2. How's the view from up there?

It's VERY different for concerts....

For the ECW shows, the ring was in the middle of the floor section.? With the back seats in either of the balconies, the veiw could be a bit obstructed because of that.

For concerts, the show is along the far wall...every seat has a good view, from what I remember.? No obstructions that I can think of...

Man, if you show up on DECEMBER 12th (about 7 months late), you're gonna be uber disappointed. :)

The New Yorker is RIGHT next door to the Hammerstein.  Hell, the "Grand Ballroom" (also a Manhattan Studios "venue) is, if I remember right, IN the New Yorker space. :)

Very good.  At the back of the mezz 2 section, you're about 150 feet from the stage.  Those seats are better than about 70% of the arena seats you could buy.  And that's assuming you're stuck in the very last row of the section.

well thats good news, because im in the mezz2 .... so no cameras are allowed at all? does that mean out of 12,000 people no one will bring a camera to take a few pics?

Thinking of staying at a cheap hostel and walking the 4 miles from Hammerstein.  Is it feasible to walk from that location on 101st to Yankee Stadium also?  Does anyone recommend visiting the 9/11 site or is it just all under construction now? 

Put me down for 2 attending the 17th preparty, although not til later in the afternoon.  I'm flying solo the 15th to it. 

Fuck, just being at a bar that plays 5 hours of straight GNR is going to be a highlight.  Although some may view it as stupid, I think it'd be cool to have sticker name tags just so I know who the hell I'm talking to.

aside from that, you can take a subway for $2 to the hammerstein. you can also take subway to yankee stadium.

Sounds like my dorm room!  I've had the GNR going 24/7 for about a week now!  Hell, even when I'm sleeping it's playing.  My neighbors are probably getting a little pissed, but they can wait another 18 days or so.

I'm coming in from Morristown, NJ; NJT to NY Penn Station; and walking from there.  Meeting a friend that lives in Manhattan and staying there.  Due to family obligations however, I'm only going to the 17th show. :-[

I work in Manhattan and for the May 12th show will walk to the venue when I get out of work at 6:00-6:30.  So I'll miss the Mustang Harry's pre-party that ends at 5:30. 

Speaking of Mustang Harry's, what's the plan after 5:30?  I know many will immediately get on line for the best floor spot, but what about the rest of you who, like me, don't plan on entering the venue until later in the evening?  Where are we drinking?

it will be a safe walk because you are in midtown and there are always lots of people. However, its about 20blocks, so I'd say its about a 30minute walk.

Cab it...won't cost you that much and will be faster/easier then walking. You're fine walking if you want to though, very safe.

It will be very easy to get a cab at that time which will cost around $4-5, but its a really nice and safe walk no matter how late and it will take you between a little under 30 minutes

Exactly! everytime i got to new york I worry about catching public transportation back home the following morning. Some booze, energy drinks, fast food, starbucks keeps you wide awake. There's so much to do in NYC 24hrs a day! It's not known as the city that never sleeps for nothing! : ok:

Its so funny to read the posts from the out of towners making a trip to NYC.  Even though I've lived here for 8+ years I am jealous that you guys are taking a vaca here.  Wierd right?  Theres probably a lot of touristy things I haven't done yet which is why I feel that way.  For some retarded reason I have always wanted to do the Red Bus hop on/hop off tour bus things.  I've never been to ellis island either. 

To answer that one dudes post, I have tix to all 4, but not sure if I'm gonna go to all 4.  Could be a bit much and I'm having a tougher time then I thougth finding people to go with me.  I keep getting the "GNR?? I thought they broke up" response.  Doesn't seem to be a big deal to a lot of people outside of this forum.  I really hope these shows get killer reviews and start to pique the interest of the casual fan.

I might bail on the Sunay show - Friday is going to be nuts as all of my good friends are gonna be in town and I got just enough tix for all of us.  We were all at MSG in 02 and are so pumped for this show.  I have to make them CDs of all the new songs though - even these guys were asking about the new band as they have no clue really.  I keep telling them "slash might be there" just to fuck with them hahaha.

I got that same response from just about everyone I talked to when I attempted to find someone to go with.  But, I'm making the trip solo, it's GUNS N FUCKIN ROSES!!!  I've missed WAY too many shows because I couldn't find anyone to go with and I've decided that I'm not missing a show I want to go to just because no one else will go.  Can't wait until the 12th!!

oh i hear ya - If I have to I will fly solo, i'd prob have more fun with strangers that are singing with the new songs then to my turd friends bitching about Slash and Duff not being there.  It does suck (not to open a can of worms) that people outside of the forums haven't had exposure or enough info about the new band - I hope in the long run it doesn't hurt sales or interest in CD.  But thats a whole nother thread.  Its just mind blowing that its hard to find people to go to a GNR concert with you know?

i just got back from vegas wich was unreal.. i also got 3 tix to the may 12th show.. which gives me something to look forward to after the let down from being home from vegas... anyway i've been out of the loop for the past 5 days or so.. does anyone know why they added 2 more "warm up" up gigs?  if this has been aswered ..sorry for the repeat.. i think it could be because they are planning on using the footage for a video and this will allow them to have 4 takes.. and also give some new songs a try.. hopefully the setlists will change from show to show.. i think the reviews would be pretty bad by the 4th show and the setlist was the same as the first...
also to answer a few questions.. the person that asked about the hostle on 101 st.. new york is a very safe city and i've never really felt uncomfortable in the city.. that being said.. i would try to stay below 90th st.. i don't know the west side as well as the east.. but north of 100st it starts to get a little sketchy...
the subway is the easiest way to get around during rush hour.. for 2 bucks you get pretty much anywhere.. get a subway map or print one on line..
cabs are also very easy to get and you can pretty much get to anywhere in manhatton for less than 15 bucks.. and at night the subways run less frequently so cab is just easier..
the area west of penn station is prob the porn capital of the city.. no strip clubs just a ton of stores.. sounds seedy but.. there are usually tons of people out on the street till pretty late..  i wouldn't worry about it unless you are by yourself and walking after 2 am.. then you might want to just jump in a cab
as for places to go out after.. there are tons.. if your a with a group of girls or don't mind getting a bottle and dropping some cash the meatpacking dist is where you should go.. the gansavort is a good place for drinks early then a lounge like marquee or pm.. both in area are good.. never been to stereo..
if your a group of dudes and just want to get blasted and pick up girls doing the same them i suggest 2nd ave in the 50s.. there are about 4 bars there are good.. sutton place i my fav for that type of bar.. i'm sure that there are a ton of good places on the west side too.. i'm just throwing those things out there for anyone that has never been to the city.

Nobody coming solo will BE solo if they don't want to be.? With the preshow parties going on, everyone is going to be able to actually GO to the show, if they want to, with a pretty big group of people. :)

Now, here's my question:? Figuring the show will end around 12:30 AM to 1 AM.? My train out doesn't leave until about 3:15 from Penn station.? Anyone know a place nearby that serves 24 hour breakfast....diner-type food that's pretty close to the venue and Penn Station (oh..yeah...and the food is good, too, maybe)?? It's sorta a long standing tradition, with me, to do breakfast after a GnR show (and I'd welcome any company that might want to come with.).

WHile there is certainly the real possibility that they wont ome on stage till late, I really doubt that they will go on anytime after 10 for most of these shows. Maybe 1 out of the 4 they go on real late but i doubt it. Axl is usually on time when he plays in ny. AT msg in 02 he came on at like 930/945 i think....

I THINK (and I'm not sure if the Hammerstein qualifies) that NYC has a curfew on shows...12:30, I think.

Younggunner is right.  For the MSG show, I ALMOST missed them going onstage.  I couldn't believe they were out that early!  I don't think Axl will make us wait long.  Especially if there's no opening act.

Axl wants to make sure the papers get their reviews in for the next day so when he pops out of the club at like 5/6 am he can pick one up and read the revews and if uncle Axl disagrees with it we have a rant the next day

As much as I hate being one of the guinnea pigs at the very first show, I must admit the excitement is Fn' tremendous. Will they play brand new songs? Will they play some more illusion era songs not yet played with this incarnation? Will they play the first CD single? Will we get some new info? Will they even bother to show? Gotta love it!

i also hope they come on on time because the last train that leaves for nj is 145.....ill be stuck if he comes on late

Its not such a big deal, there's a 4:20 train in case you miss it, I've gone on that one plenty of times
But as long as the show ends by 1:30 you'll make it

Here's a 24 hour diner just a few blocks away from MSG.  It's called the Skylight Diner.  I've never been there, but I guess it's a place to go if anyone misses their transportation out of the city.

The website I looked at for it said they do take reservations.  So if you definantly plan on going there you could probably call them up and make reservations for after the show.

Is anyone going not American?! Im flying in for the weekend and on my own for two nights till friends arrive (one night on own is my birthday  :-\ ). Ive never been to NY and im flying all the way from London so Im a little nervous although Im sure everyone will be great to me ( Americans are so much more friendly than us Brits), I was just wondering If anyone else is coming from abroad?

Why not just go out after the show & party for a little while instead of sitting & waiting around in a train station...?  Also, I gotta say - a NYC diner that takes reservations?  That's just weird.

As I said, for me...breakfast after a GnR show is tradition.? So I'll try to hunt that down...for the 6th time.? And will probably "bring the party" (at least some of it) with me.

If I can't find it, I may head to a local watering hole for awhile with some of the other posters....I just don't want to get so sloshed I either miss my train, or can't walk straight to get to my train.? After my hour and 30 min train ride, I still have an hour and 20 min drive home.? Helps to stay at least close to sober for all that. :)

Besides, I'm 32 years old, married, and have 2 (plus one on the way) kids.  The bar/club scene doesn't hold the sway over me that it once did.  Which is not to say it's not fun, on occasion.....but sitting down, shooting the shit with some of the htgth crowd, and talking about the show (all, hopefully, while consuming some grub) sounds like fun, too.  Especially RIGHT after the show. :)  I know, I know....boring to the younger set.

Unfortunately for me there's four reasons I can't stay for the after party:
1) I'm only 20
2) If I did get to partying I tend to easily lose track of time
3) I have a 4 hour drive back to school once I get outside the city
4) If I miss my train I'm kind of screwed because a hotel really doesn't fit into a college budget

Otherwise I'd definantly be partying it up after the concert!!

With the exception of the friday show, I doubt i'll be going out after any of these shows - gotta hit the old 9-5 the next day :(  I doubt I'll even be drinking too much beforehand...last thing I want to do is give up a good floor spot just to take a leak.  Being shit faced at MSG did enhance how good of a time I had though. 

I bet some of you going to the pre party won't even make it to the show haha. or will be so hammered you won't remember it ;)   :beer:

I've heard accounts (but never seen...my time in the mezz's was awhile back) that there are even waitresses up in the balconies. :)

On the subject of openers I'm kind of conflicted.  I don't want to be standing around for a long time watching nothing, but even with an opener chances are that'll happen anyway.  I don't want to stand through shitty openers, especially if there's people who decide they're going to mosh to the shitty openers.  And if there are openers I'll still be freaking out the whole time they're on thinking about whether Axl is gonna show.  I'd rather just wait for GNR to go on.

I plan on lining up, or at least checking out the line, right when I get into the city.  I'm shooting for between 10 and 11.

The first time I ever saw Velvet Revolver as Roseland was I believe also their first show in NYC...they had an opener...some crap band called the living things. The band literally got boo-ed the entire time and the lead singer just stopped singing and started calling people out in the audience and cursing at them, trying to fight. While it's not what I hope for the GNR shows...hell man, it was mad funny  :rofl:

I got the CD from my contact at Sony, cuz I write at my college newspaper doing entertainment review (I'm special  :yes:) and I gotta say, I wasn't impressed. They're sort of one of those post BrianJonesTown bands who think themselves more creative than they are. But hey, everyone has their bands.

I have reservations at the Pennsylvania Hotel. Anyone know how far that is from the Hammerstein? BTW, I will be at the shows on the 14th and 15th and plan on being at the pre-parties both days.

I can't see why people would line up at 5 or 6.... I mean there is only 2500, its not going to be like trying to get to the front row in an arena. Axl probably won't hit the stage until like 10:00-10:30 anyway... theres no way i'm standing around for 4 hours. the place is small enough you'll be able to see it all!

All right, this California girl finally got a hotel!  It's the Herald Square Hotel not far from the Hammerstein.  I got a room with private bath for $99 per night.  All the reviews are good so I hope it really is decent.  I've been working on this for hours!  Some of the reviews talk about bedbugs and mice.  And cockroaches too.  I guess it's a problem in a lot of NY hotels.

It's something I want to experience once in my life and I fully intend to do it (pending I can get my ass out of bed at 6am).? I feel my generation has been robbed of such an experience due to the ability to buy tickets online and the lack of performers who are really worth waiting 12+ hours outside.? If anyone wants to get a little rotation started let me know because I also want to make an appearence at the pre-party.? Damnit, this is my first GNR show and could very well be my last (although I hope not) so I'm making it one fucking hell of an experience I'll never forget!

I sure hope I got a good deal!  The first hotel I booked sounded fine, but then I found a website with reviews.  The reviews were awful, talking about bugs and mice.  I cancelled that reservation and found the Herald Square.  I've read all the reviews for the Herald Square...no bugs, no mice.

I always use to just go to cbgbs and see what was there.. I never planned anything around which bands were there.. I just said see 4-5 bands drink and see what rock sluts are there..I use to bounce between that one and the other place next door

Does anyone know for sure whether or not The Hammerstein is governed by a curfew law? Just curious as to how late these shows may start. What's everyone's concensus?

I'm not sure either, to be clear.? Every show I've been to there has been wrapped up by 12:30-ish, but I'm not sure that's because of any curfew.? I think it's just because the artists go on stage "on time". :)

I know most LARGE venues in NYC (like MSG) do have a concert curfew and I think it's 12:30 AM.? But I'm not sure about the smaller venues like the Hammerstein. They may not...

yeah. most of the shows ive been didnt say nothing. the one time they really enforced the rule of no cameras was when i saw motley crue. you couldnt even take a picture with your phone

Hey im stayin at a hotel in Bergen NJ thats like 4-5 miles from the Hammerstein.  my question is about cabs...will they take me there since in a differnet state and how much would a cab cost for that ride?

oh man you problably would've been better off just stay in New York. I'd say a cab ride would cost $30-50. cabs are expensive...a cab to the bar I go to which is only a town over is $20

Few questions:

1)  Why would you wait in line for so long if you are just gonna lose your spot when you go to bathroom?  (is the plan not to go to the bathroom)
I mean, if you can push your way back to your spot why even wait for 5-6 hours.  Especially those planning on drinking.

2) Can't you just push your way to the front?  I found that to be the case at a few other small venues I been to.  Its the rowdy people in front and then less rowdy people in the perimeters.  I'm willin to get rowdy.

3) I seen comments here and there but why would you wanna be in Mezz?  Don't you want the energy of the floor?  I don't understand this?

just my thoughts

1) those waiting in line probably aren't drinking (unless they are flasking it), thus no need to go to the bathroom.? if you can't hold your urine for 5 hours and you're not drinking, you have a bladder problem my friend, plus with an incentive of being 10 feet away from Axl, I think you can hold it.? seriously, if you can make it through the night without being a bed-wetter I think you can make it this long (most people sleep over 9 hours).

2) yes you can push your way to the front, if you think you are part of the 'cool crowd' doing that; get rowdy by all means

3) can't speak for everyone on the mezz issue but here's my personal thoughts why i like it:

* Don't want to spend the entire concert being pushed up against the front, having my dick in some guy's ass, and another guy's dick in my ass....

* There's that awkward 'where do i put my hands' thing on the floor, if I put them in my pockets I lose my balance in the sway, but if I keep them at my side, they are touching an ass on my left and a wanker on my right

* Don't want to have my view blocked by a huge dude (even though I'm 6'3", there are taller people out there)

* Don't care for surfers and their flying feet hitting me while Richard is playing an awesome slide guitar solo that I'm enjoying

* I come to GNR concerts for the music and seeing Axl, not to sweat my balls off jumping up and down against strangers who I don't know if they have showered in the past month

* Do want to hear better sound quality that you get from being away from the stage speakers

* Do want to see entire band, not just one player on one side

* I've touched, or been within a few feet of Tommy, Dizzy, Brain, and Bucket --- no need to fight my way through a crowd to get close to these guys when I've been 2 feet away from Tommy's guitar for his entire 2 hour solo set, the only person worth being close to is Axl

* I'm coming with my little sister the fourth night, no need to worry about her getting trampled in the mezz

* Many GNR fans aren't 16 year olds that are full of piss and vinegar, they want a little less hectic setting, and besides, it'll be rowdy enough wherever you are in the building

Getting there super early and wanting to be front row was something I cared about 15 years ago... Now i'd be happy just to see him live.. Hammersteins own site says that, while there are row and seat numbers, unless the ticket says "reserved seating" (and it doesn't) all shows are GA.

The only thing "assigned" is your section (Floor, Mezz1, Mezz2).

I wouldn't say "usually".  More like "sometimes".

That being said, I have yet to see anyone on the boards with a Mezz 1 ticket fro the 15th.  It seems like they're out there for all the other dates, but not the 15th.  In addition, the ONE stub hub tickets for the 15th that's for Mezz1 was going for 2 or 3 times what the OTHER tickets for the show were going for.

Something, I think, is going on on Mezz1 on the night of the 15th.  VIP area, video shoot, or radio (possibly satellite) simulcast maybe?  I don't know.  But with the lack of Mezz1 tickets for that show...it's gotta be something.

I'm still undecided on the whole subject too. I guess it depends on how much fun I'm having when I arrive in NYC. I figure it like this, even at the very back of the floor, I'll still be closer to the band then on the 2002 tour when they played here in Detroit!

My plan for the 15th:

Arrive in NYC around 2 PM.

Party at Mustang Harrys til around 6 PM.

Head over and get in line til 7:30.

All subject to change as the mood strikes me....

Thats another thing I think people aren't taking into consideration about "The Line". Alot of people in the line are gonna be trying to get better seats on the 2nd and 3rd floors, so a long ass line doesn't necessarily mean a bad spot for us on the floor.

I was at VR's New Year's Eve shows in Nj and they had strange women dancing onstage... and they were kindof strange... We had to watch them for 4 hours...

1) I'm not going to drink a thing so I don't have to go to the bathroom. Get good and dehydrated!

You can probably take a PATH or NJ Transit train from Bergen to NYC for under $10 - you should check online. ?That would be a much better bet than trying to take a cab from Jersey.

Take the train in--- it goes right to MSG-- terribly easy-- hammerstein is right around the corner (.12 miles, 0 min according to mapquest)  Trains run most of the night also-- seriously, itll cost less and its so much easier if ur comin from anywhere in jersey.  Check njtransit.com, northeast corridor line for details.

It still all seems a little strange.  I haven't posted much here, but have been visting this board at least weekly for the past five years.  By just reading people's opinions, etc. for so long, it almost seems like I know a lot of the people on this board.  I think it will all be good meeting people and putting faces with names.

Only 2 weeks from tomorrow night and I finally get to see/hear Axl for the first time in 14 years (no pun intended).  My ticket from the Philly show in 2002 still sits next to my keybaord as a reminder of what could have been a great concernt,  I'm sure this will more then make up for it.  See everyone at Mustang's on the 12th... :beer:

I have organized a pre-party for the dates of May 12th, 14th, 15th, and 17th. The Pre-Party is scheduled to take place at Mustang Harry's which is about 5 minutes walking distance from Hammerstein Ballroom. This bar can hold up to 400 people and will allow us to play Guns N Roses music from noon-5:30 pm on all dates before the Guns N Roses show. This will be for all ages as the bar serves food and drink.  They have arranged to start the party upstairs in their private room that holds up to 250 people and has a seperate bar. Drink specials will be $4.50 domestic beers and $5.50 well drinks when ordering house liquors. As the amount of people grows, the specials may get better, this will be decided at management's discretion. Please pm me or post in here if you plan on attending the pre-party as I have guaranteed the owner he can expect at least 50-200 people. Please feel free to bring yourself and your friends to the bar, it is clean, handicap accessible, and close to the venue. This is a perfect oppurtunity for us to meet and prepare to cheer on Guns N Roses return to the stage and ultimately their return to rock n roll glory.

I know the concerts will be general admission seating. I understand some of you will prefer to camp out in line to get the best position on the floor or mezz. I encourage you though to all work in shifts, so you'll have the oppurtunity to come over to the bar and meet fellow posters you've been posting with the last 1-7 years on this board.  Given the fact that the pre-party's start at noon, there is definitely time for every one of you to at least stop in for an hour.

These are all the details I have at this time for the pre-party, I finally recieved a letter of confirmation from the owner this morning. I hope we can all make this turn out to be a special event, it's so great that people are traveling from all over the world just to be at one of these shows.

In the early 90's I use to frequent cbgbs a lot and they use to have all kinds of rock bands, and I always hated being near the stage, everyone pushing shoving and the sausage fest was way to much,.,, One guy rammed into me when I was drinking a bud, I said stop it dude, turned around again he did it, next thing he knew he was layed out next to a marshall

know how you feel, i came home on my lunch and left instructions to leave it in a special spot for the ups guy.... on a side note, not that this is anything new, but i called the ballroom just to make sure i got the right directions, i havent been to ny in a while and never been to the ballroom, so i was like i ll be at the gnr concert and the guy on the phone was like yeah he ll be hear , probably refering to axl, so i took that as they have some assurances nothing will be cancelled

42nd and 8th is rather nice, highrise going up as we speak, buildings all over, movie theaters.. No worries folks..

I'm in Illinois, haven't got mine yet either.  Went standard.  We'll probably see ours Monday as most people that went standard just started getting them yesterday.

i went to the cbgb a couple years ago when i was in nyc.
this time we're hitting the Stereo or some nightclub :) to compare with paris ;)

I just got an email on Thursday saying they had been printed and were on their way. They came in yesterdays mail so it shouldn't be much longer for everyone else. My tickets are for the 12th so maybe I got them a little sooner over that, but I doubt it.

 

That's what I'm hoping....did you get your email on wednesday too? Just seems odd that a  leet in US mail would take more than 3 days..but then again it is NYC (where I assume their being printed) to Chicago...

I received my email on Thursday and the tickets came in teh mail on Sat.  it's unbelievable holding fgnR tickes in my hand again.  I live in Del., so a little closer then Ill., but not too much..  They'll be there soon. 

What time do you guys plan on getting on line for the shows?  I want to get a great spot, but I can't see standing on line all day long.  I'm hoping that getting on around 5 should be good enough to get decent seats (Mezz Level).  What do you think?

When I went to the velvet Revolver show in Chicago that had General Admission on an Arena floor I only arrived a half an hour before doors opened.....and I was able to get what was essentially second row. This was after having to wait in line to get a GA wrist band to get to the floor AND this was a show that had prolly 5-6 thousand fans on the floor as it was a hockey/basketball arena with the entire floor being filled with people. I dont plan on getting there much earlier than 6:30-7...as long s Im in the vacinity of 10 rows on the floor Itll be good. Remember, a third of the tickets are Mezz1 and another third are Mezz2....so that leaves a little over 1,000 for the floor.

I was thinking about that too. The fact that the place is so smaller really contributes to the fact that we'll all be really close anyways. Plus, for those interested in the best sound, they're gonna want to be a bit further back from the stage.

So, again, it looks like we're back to the "no mezz1 tickets theory".

The first time I saw GnR live was in Middletown NY back in '88.? They were opening for Aerosmith.? My friends and I drove out JUST to see GnR.  I've now seen them about 1/2 a dozen times (including '02) myself.

Anyone here going to try tape some of these shows and how long do you think it will take before one of the recordings of these shows will hit the net. : ok: :beer:

There's some sites claiming they'll try to get the shows up ASAP after they happen. I personally think that the first show will be in wide trade by early Sunday morning.

I am recording the 14th & 15th. I have WiFi in my hotel room and will be uploading the show to someone to host a .torrent of them.
You should be able to get on the torrent in the early hours of the day after the show.

I'm looking for someone who can have a reliable FTP site up right after these two shows so I can upload the FLAc files. You will then be responsible for seeding the torrent on dimeadozen.org  for a couple days at least, til it gets around to a bunch of folks.  If you are willing to commit to this, PM me (of course, youll also be the first to hear the shows.) Please, if you are not commited to helping with the torrent or know nothing about torrenting/having an FTP server on your PC, dont PM me. I understand everyone wants to be 'first in line', but I am not going to 'train a newbie' on this stuff.

Same here, except it was '88 in Pine Knob, Michigan opening for Aeromsith, multiple times in Philly & Hershey, PA in '91 but didn't get to see them in '02.......instead I got to see "riot" live  :hihi:

Yeah, it was REALLY COOL getting the tickets in my hands. I have UYI I & II framed on my iving room wall so I put one ticket in each frame, mostly so I don't lose them!

I can't wait to talk with some of the oldies here about their experiences going to the shows back in the day, I think that'd be interesting as hell at the preparties.? Bullet for my valentine will be opening at all four shows which has just been confirmed by ticketmaster and livenation

Yankees bleecher tix will prob sell out, but DONT buy tix from ticketmaster, there are always plenty of scalpers to buy from who will sell tix below price very often, just go to them and say "I need one cheap ticket, I only have $10, or $15" it always works

I usually go with friends and show the scalpers $50 and I'll get 4tix

I can't believe it is so close!  In 13 days I will be in New York, sitting in Mezz 2, waiting to see GNR.

Last week at the Devils/Ranger game some guy had a Devs jersey with the name Mr. Intensity. Was that you? Or some freaky coincidence.

It holds 300 people, & I will be working on drink specials when I talk to the guy tomorrow.  There's a fairly varied jukebox.

Is there absolutely no seats in the venue for this show?

If so, would it be best to get to the venue way the fuck early so you can see the stage?

Im sure once GnR takes the stage, everyone will rush to the front so it might not be too too hard to squeeze up to the front...

& also, whats everyone's stance on bringing cameras to these shows, disposable or otherwise?

I know with the small number of people who will be in attendance, security is going to be a bit? more detailed, but is there zero tolerance for these shows?

I dont care about videotaping it, I just want to take some pictures home with me to remember the show forever from. If I bring a disposable, Im just afraid of security finding it, and revoking my ticket :-[

I volunteer at a community radio station in my era, and obviously support and promote the shit outta GnR and my supervisor is mad on my tale to get some kind of interview with someone associated with the group...even road crew or otherwise...

It wouldnt have to be an indepth interview, just a few short questions... :)

so if u have mezz tix, u gonna end up in a seat so u should try and get in line early if u want a good seat?

Again, there's really no such thing as a "bad" seat, from what I've seen.  And they only sell as many tickets, in the balconies, as there are seats....so if you have a ticket, you'll get a seat.

But, if you want to get close to the front of the balcony, yes.  Line up early to try and get your preferred spot. 

All things considered, though.....I doubt if you get in line around 6:30 or 7 PM that you'll have a hard time finding choice seats in the balconies.  You might not be right on the rail, but you'll find seats you'll like.

My father and I will be comming in from Buffalo through LaGuardia on the 12th, and are wondering how to get to a reasonably close hotel from where Hammerstein is. I would like some information and direction on how to get to a hotel near Hammerstein from the airport and which would be the cheapest way. we'll be attending the 12th and 14th shows. - cheers ?:beer:

With that said, if you have GA tickets, would it be advised you still get in line outside the venue, and hour to an hour and a half before the show starts?

I just wonder if this is a venue where you have elbow room to move around on the ground or if you're squeezed between Gunners from all angles...

My heart wont be broken if Im not front and centre with the stage but I at least want to be close enough to see the Redhead :P

You can see the stage from anywhere you're standing at Hammerstein.  As far as cameras - security will look into your bag outside.  If you get it in, unless you're standing directly in front of security when you take the pic, you're probably ok.  Especially with a disposable, I would guess that the worst they would do is confiscate it.
