Title: Favorite slash work???

of all the music he has contributed to covered or original, which is you're fav??and why?

mine has to be 'back to the moment' by snakepit, the emotion in that song is awsome, i can almost feel slash inspiration in that song its so cool

Appetite For Destruction, particularly "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O' Mine."  Nothing controversial there.

Favorite solo is probably the final one in "November Rain."

"You Got No Right" is probably my favorite non-GNR Slash song.

"Street Child" is also pretty amazing.  The that second solo just tears apart the track gives me chills.

"Serial Killer" has to be his most technically proficient work.

seriously? OIAM...pretty raw emotion on that track and the sound his guitar has is so sleazy...fucking awesome. and Estranged the main riff is so great, and Don't Damn Me is wicked too and SCOM and beleive it or not the music to Get in the Ring is one of my fav's too...just too bad that the lyrics are what they are if it was serious song it woulda been better

Outside of GnR? "Beggers and Hangers On" from 5 O'Clock on and "Cure me or Kill Me" from Gilby's "Pawnshop Guitars"

From VR....prolly "Slither" or "You got no Right"

The outro in Paradise City, the transition in Rocket Queen, all the solos in Estranged, the SCOM solo (obviously), everything in Coma.

Title: Re: Favorite slash work???

Oh...so many!!

Theme from the godfather on the Tokyo Dvds, and the soloing before it....

the ending to nightrain...the outro to NR....all of coma but especially from like 5.20 onwards with that mad solo after "zap the son of a bitch again" or whatever it is and the way it goes back into the riff eventually...

Also I love the attack when he plays rhythm parts - like check out how cool it is on Spagetti Incident in "Black Leather" - while i'm rambling about SI - i have to mention the way the opening notes go to feedback in "Aint it Fun" - and while praising cool feedback lets not forget the You Could be Mine Intro...love that....

I cant help but mention my fave riff of all time - the Mr Brownstone riff - although I dunno if it was Slash or Izzy that wrote it so sorry if its not slash...but its cool as anyway...

Oh and of course....this will prob earn me a flame - but I love "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" - like ok Eric isn't the same as Axl but damn there is some mighty impressive and kickass rock guitar going on there. I already loved it but then i saw boots of it live and slash going off as only slash does and it made me appriciate all the cool guitar stuff i'd never noticed in it before....

God I love slash!! (relax folks i love the new band too - IRS and BETTER rock my world!!)

You got no right has a pretty ridiculous solo - My favorite of his VR work

Sweet Child & Coma for his GNR work

Night Train is my fav song,
I loved what he did with CypressHill live on Rock Superstar, but nothing compares to
Mr. Brownstone slide and Rocket Queen voicebox for gritty, rythmic, pure, rock n' roll feelings
NO other rock guitarist has matched these rythmic sounds yet.
Just my 2 cents--the rythem guitat on nighttrain is the best ever thanks IZZY or maybe Slash?

Also, the rythem guitat in illegal I is amazing--The producer (freakin ruined Contraband)  drowned it out too much. Mustache man with hat is way underated!  Listen closely to it--it's not the easiest thing to pick out but it is the best i've heard since AFD, and old Stones.

Those are my favorites as well. I also like his work on Loving The Alien. There's so many songs that he's made memorable. It's hard to narrow it down. He's truly amazing.

Way too many to mention, but most of his leads on AFD and UYI are just jaw-dropping.
Not so much technically, but just as far as playing the right guitar part for the right song kind of vibe, he's hard to beat.

Like others have said, I'll also mention the Street Child and You Got No Right solos as being some of his best work. Oh and the solo on Michael Jackson's Give In To Me is fucking great too.

Personally, I am blown away by the song Obsession Confession.  The song is originally called Obsession that he did with Maria (marta?) Sanchez for some movie I think.  The instrumental version is called Obsession Confession.  Truly amazing!

Youve only heard Snakepit and not GNR/VR?

Most of the people here follow most of his work...the general consensus just seems to be that GNR was his best, followed by VR.

Somebody mentioned "Obsession Confession" which is a cool track, but is marred by its production.  Id love to see him do more raw Spanish-style playing.

Hmmmm

My favorite solo of all time is Sweet Child O Mine so I will Start there... Honestly though, all the lead playing on Appetite is amazing....

I also love the acoustic solos on "Your Crazy" and "One In A Million"...

I think over for an over all song "Loco-motive" is just a masterpiece guitarwise (It's a masterpeice in all other aspects too).. From beginning to end it is just Slash at his absolute best.. Also his best work on UYI's

The first Snakepit had some Killer Slash stuff too.... "Neither Can I" is a great guitar song that comes to mind and he tears it up on "Soma City Ward" too...

Someone mentioned the "You Got No Right" solo which is up there with his best as far as I am concerned...? "Dirtly Little Thing" also....

He always tears the shit up during "Knockin On Heavens Door" live... The acoustic version from Argentina is great... But I have some boots from Illusions when he just goes off forever.. "Ilegal I Song" live is just great too....

The collaboration with Lenny Kravitz on "Always On The Run" is awesome too....

It is too hard to pick one favorite so there are a few that came to mind....

gotta throw in the Slither riff  too  : ok:

oh man, that's one of my all time favourites of him live as well. He is improvising, and its so soulfull that it almost make my heart bleed!!! Locomotive is a masterpiece as someone mentioned, but I love almost everything he has done, so it would be much easier to list the few I dident love as much as the majority of his work...

That's a good one.. I know it says "Grammy's",  but isn't that the American music awards though? With Don Henley on drums and the show that Slash and Duff were all fucked up accepting the award? Could be wrong..

What a player, unparallaled IMO, there are too many great moments to name really  :)

My bad, I don't think Slash played on Fields of Joy.... I was thinking of Always on the Run
 Vocals / Guitar: Lenny Kravitz
Lead Guitar: Slash
Bass: Unknown
Drums: Unknown

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Audio: N/A

Single: No
Video: No

Written by: "Always On The Run" was written by Slash and Lenny Kravitz. Slash wrote the music to it, while Lenny wrote the lyrics.
Written in: "Always On The Run" was written before 1991.

Performed live: "Always On The Run" was played live by GnR and Lenny Kravitz on June 6th, 1992, in Paris, France.

Additional Info: "Always On The Run" was originally written for GnR, but since Steven Adler couldn't do the drumming, Slash did it with Lenny Kravitz instead.

In Their Own Words:

Slash: "Mama Said" was a song that I originally wrote with Guns in mind but Guns was not the band for it, and Lenny [Kravitz] heard it and went 'Whoa!' And there it went.

Slash: That was just such a spontaneous fuckin' thing. It was a song, a riff that I originally wrote. That 'Mama Said' song was a riff that I was playing hanging around with Lenny, talking about how we went to high school together. I played him that, and he called me up three months later: 'Let's go to Hoboken and do that track.' 'You serious?' So we went and did that together, and that was fun. We did it in this funky place on a Sunday in Hoboken, off license, no booze, nothing. Went out there and smoked a hell of a lot of cigarettes.

I think Slash wrote that for GnR but gave it to Kravitz after a squabble

Slash did an interview with Sydney radio station Triple M in 1995 during the promo tour for Snakepit and he said that when he presented the riff to Axl, Axl thought it was "too funky" and didn't suit GN'R, so he later played it for Lenny who loved it and wanted to work it into a song.

Nope, that wasn't "Fields Of Joy" that was "Always On The Run"..... I think it was Slash that thought it was too funky for Gn'R.. Not sure Axl had anything to do with that.

Yeah, sorry, I meant Always On The Run.

"Serial Killer" has to be his most technically proficient work.

Agreed - Serial Killer is an awesome song!?

I really enjoy both Snakepit albums (especially the second album).? ?It's Five O'Clock Somewhere is good, and for a long time, I thought it was far superior to Ain't Life Grand.? After listening to the second album for awhile, it really grew on me.? There's some great guitar work on it!

Although Slash's GNR riffs are the best imo, the Snakepit albums are seriously underrated.?

Ain't Life Grand could have been better if Rod Jackson wasn't such a tool and his lyrics weren't sooooo fucking terrible..

True, the lyrics could use some improvement, but I feel Slash's guitar work makes up for it on some of the songs.  Despite Rod being a "tool", I definitely like his voice better than Eric Dover's or, for that matter, Scott Weiland's.

In any event, there are some good riffs on all the albums - hard to pick a winner.

For me it was always the solo to DTJ.  it's the perfect solo in my opinion, especially how he "morphed" that solo live into Voodoo Child, then went to Civil War afterwards.

The lyrics on Snakepit II were the MOST mature lyrics any Slash band has ever recorded!!!
There wasn't any whining or haterate crap on that album (not saying there is any on Snakepit I or VR).

I would have no idea where to start...

But here goes...

Best riffs or solos--WTTJ, PC, Dead Horse, NR, Estranged, Locomotive, Be the Ball, Back and Forth Again, Loving the Alien.

It is too hard to pick one favorite so there are a few that came to mind....

gotta throw in the Slither riff? too? : ok:

Hmm, for me his best work on the UYI was Coma, riffing and soloing, but i gotta admit that i have so much fun playin locomotive, might be my second pick and third, Civil war tied with Don?t Damn Me

For your consideration:

Reckless Life - blistering solo
Move to the City from Live Era - when he comes in on the extended band part

Locomotive has got to be the most complex Slash song ever.  There is so much going on there.  The Sweet Child solo is simply perfection.  Cannot be topped.  Paradise City outro solo is the fastest I have ever heard Slash.  Coma too.  Neither Can I and Back and Forth Again are great as well.  It is hard to pick a favorite from my favorite player.

Here is Locomotive live with Beck.

they are so different, it's like weiland to axl in sound... I think anyone can like one of those albums, such different singers..

Speaking of slash's greatest works, just listen to UYI 1, he owns that fucking album....

There's times I could care less about the song, but the riffs and solos are amazing

Hehe yeah, luckly i can and as i say, it?s really fun doing, it took me sometime to learn it,  don?t think it was easy, and after all the work put into it, it was definitely worth it, hehe

The outro solo to Rocket Queen, the second slow solo in SCOM, Don't Damn Me an perhaps the ultimate, Estranged (especially the second last solo which is just perfection).
I couldn't agree more with this.

gnr wouldn't have ever been the same without him, it was axl n slash known round the world. Every great gnr song has an amazing riff or mid solo..

I have never viewed gnr as a one person band ,that is why I don't call axl alone gnr..

Axl definately isn't Gn'R alone.  It is actually pretty sad. They were a band and at one time the names Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff were pretty much household names.  What Axl is doing right now is so far from what Gn'R was it baffles me why he must march on with the name... Well, obviously he will get more publicity and sell more tix and albums.. I think he would do pretty good solo or under a different name anyway.  Now that Izzy has jammed with VR and Axl, it just seems that a reunion could be somewhat feasible at some point. What Axl is doing now just makes it that more difficult. I know alot of die hards like the music too, but other than Madagascar and CD I think the New GnR music that I have heard is terrible. And those aren't exactly classics or anything.. I  haven't heard all the newest ones but I have listened to a couple.

I was agreeing with this post all the way through until you got to the bit about the new songs, cos I like them also. They arn't slash thats for sure...but to me still great songs lyrically and in other ways. But each to his own.

I must say...sometimes it is interesting to wonder what slash would have done on some of them too....

Yeah i like the lyrics to OMG...although musically its onthe borderline for me...like i dig it - but i do find the drumming and stuff - just the kinda in your face mix of it to be almost too much to my ears.

So you just don't like new songs in general then? Oh well..each to their own I guess :)

Least we both like slash! LOL its so hard to list his greatest moments when like 90% of the stuff he does is totally inspirational to me!

Last comment on this since it's off topic..  I just don't find the new music cohesive, and Axl's voice is just weird to me.. It sounds like a big cluster fuck. I hear a couple leaks a few months back someone sent me and I watched "Better" I think on Aol and it was horrific. I aslo watched Sweet Child which also sucked.. There were a couple songs in 2002 I liked but a few I didn't.. I gave it a shot but it ain't happenin.  I even went to see them live and it wasn't my thing.. The highlight of teh show was Madagascar and CD..... Watching them do GnR tunes was painful...

The single-note soloing in SCOM, where he uses the Cry Baby is absolutely brilliant. It's really difficult to keep a solo on just one base-note interesting, but he pulled it of. I can't really put into words how good this actually is.

RQ is easily gnr's best, it's definetly right up there with anything..

I was driving today listening to scom and PC, the mid solo in SCOM is just amazing to me, such feeling, it has a lot of style.. PC just that guitar beat that plays over and over.. Thent eh end when it's crazy, slash shows tremendous speed during the end..
