Title: Conversations I had with the band and Sebastion Bach in NYC...
Post by: Mr.Intensity on May 17, 2006, 01:38:59 AM
First of all, thanks to everyone who came to the pre-partys, I really apprecitate it. It was a great time. On Monday I was lucky enough to have access to the after-party downstairs at Hammerstein and got to meet Robin Finck, Richard Fortus, Tommy Stinson, and Sebastion Bach. I remember pretty much everything I talked about with them.

Richard Fortus was very nice, I shook his hand and thanked him for being the most friendly guns n roses member. I told him everyone on the board really appreciates his responses to emails and we all look forward to hearing his work on the new album. I then said to him "Well, you know one question I gotta ask ya...." he smiled, then I said... "does the band plan to record any new material with Bumblefoot for the album, he then said "yes." I then laughed and said, were you expecting something else and he smiled. I told him great show and wished him luck.

After I met him I seen Robin Finck walk in, he was talking to someone else, I waited for him to finish and I shook his hand and introduced myself and told him I been a fan of him since he toured with Reznor in 97, I then asked him if he knew why Trent kept putting Axl referances up on the nin sites... he looked like he took offense and was like "i don't want to talk about that" and walked away... so whatever, guess he is a rock star now and is too sweet. But, I did think he improved 100% since last tour, im guessing him and nin is a touchy subject or maybe he was offended i didnt talk about hiw work with gnr.

Tommy Stinson I just said "great show" too and let the two girls I went in with talk to him and hug on his nuts. At that point I kind of was like " I can't wait to see you in the fall" and then I went to sit down. Eventually the two girls come back over, sit down, up strolls Sebastion Bach.....

Sebastion was very down to earth, no ego on that guy at all. First thing I said is "are you sure you didn't write my michelle, you sound fucking great man." He thanked me and offered me some wine.. (he was always carring fucking wine) we then talked about Rob Halford... I mentioned I would have loved to hear the 2002 band cover "Painkiller" from Judas Priest... he was like "holy shit, that would have been killer, axl on the vox and Buckethead shredding up downings solos.. We then moved on to the trunk show, I said "were you And Axl boozing that night", "you have some wine with you that night dude" He said no that he didnt and why did I think they were drunk... I mentioned that I thought he might be because he mentioned Seymour, etc.. he was like "who is stephanie seymour, isn't she some victoria secret's model" i then said "yeah, she is kind of hot, i might make out with her" and he laughed. Then he was telling the table how he loves the C.D tracks he has heard.. and that there is gonna be some rockers on there. He mentioned he really loved IRS and is happy for Axl rose+ supports him. He was there bullshitting for like 30-45 minutes, so down to earth, can't remember all the other stuff.... but I covered all the important stuff. He said he has like a vh1 thing coming up..

I didn't see Brain, Dizzy, Chris or Axl there... although I seen Axl later that evening at "Butter".. I told Axl he put on a great show as he walked by with like 2 dudes and 3 chicks.. he didn't even say thanks... but I mean whatever, he can't talk to every person. :peace:

Thanks for the story - I guess we now know what to avoid with Finck huh.

Nice to hear Fortus getting a bit of love from the fans. With the big players in GnR right now hes probably a bit underappreciated.

Yeah Bach is one of the coolest rock stars I have met. Down to earth and just a nice guy. You brought up the right topic with Rob. Maybe theres some tnesion between Trent and Robin.. Ah well. Typical Axl brush off at the end.

Yeah, I mean I deserved Finck being a dick to me anyway, I knocked his guitar work before... but openly admitted once I heard some of these new leaks and now that I seen him do all the old stuff live perfect.... he's a great guitar player.. even though he was too cool to answer a question... and I mean it's not like it wasn't a valid one either. I'd like to know why axl's pics were being posted within nin pictures....

Ohh, ha ha, I told Bach to play for the Knicks next year if he need some extra cash... I said they might sign him for a million or so and he's tall enough to pull down 8-12 rebounds a game.... :hihi: The whole table was laughing their ass off as was he when I said that.... :hihi:

finck and nin are a touchy subject. reznor has had nothing but not so nice comments about finck since he left nin for gnr.

cool that you got to meet some of the guys though.

Well, cool that Robin took the high road then and didn't bash Reznor......

Ohh and I remember someone at the table bringing up Weiland and then someone was like "Weiland is recording with Pharrel right now"... I added that "Adler is guest starring on the new V.R album to, that he'll be on cowbell" The table I was at was awesome, Sebasion talked to everyone like they were his friend, he was awesome.

Cool experience you got there. Good for you. I can understand Robin's response, he's got personal history with Trent, it's really nobody's business, even though Trent likes to air his dirty laundry in public like a high schooler. Bach always seemed like a fun loving party animal to me. Nice to hear he hasn't changed.  : ok:

my guess, given robin's extremely cold response, is that NIN's inclusion of numerous GNR references is somehow a direct slam on robin himself. i never did like trent reznor, even if "closer" was a dynamite song.

You know I always heard that Sebastian Bach was an arrogant prick.  I ran into him one night at the Rainbow on Sunset Blvd. and he was such a nice guy.  Later on that night he ran nextdoor to the Roxy and sang a song or two with some band that was playing there.

Well, keep in mind that he and Trent aren't exactly the best of friends these days.? Robin probably ducked the question rather than give NIN any type of publicity at his expense.

Maybe Trent was bitter that Robin chose to join GN'R rather than tour with NIN.

Trent seems to be bitter towards people that he thinks burn him, like Manson.

Oh well.

Great story, Mr. I. ?Sorry we didn't have a chance to meet at Mustang's, but it's probably for the best because I am beyond jealous that you met all those guys, so I really hate you right now. ?

Seriously, thanks for sharing that. ?It provides a nice glimpse into their character (not that they should be defined by fan encounters). ?My opinion is that Axl not replying with a "thanks" is fucked up, but you may have crossed a line with the NIN question to Finck (well he obviously thinks you did). ?As for Richard, all rock stars should be like him.

The NIN question doesn't really seem out-of-line. Who knew it would be such a touchy subject.

Hope this doesn't turn into a nasty GN'R vs. NIN feud.

Had to be somewhat expected given that Reznor has badmouthed Finck in the past.  Whatever, maybe Finck is just a very sensitive guy, which is fine by me, great musicians often are.

I doubt there's gonna be a GN'R/NIN fued. ?Axl and Trent have always seemed to like each other. ?And Trent's deliberate GN'R references on NIN's photos probably don't mean anything negative. ?If they do, that's one stupid way of expressing it.

Great story man!!! And Bach is the greatest guy!! I had the chance to work with him last year when he came to Brazil with his solo band, he's SO down to earth that's a little scary! But one thing you said about bach that worried me: you said he had a glass of wine in his hands. Damn, he said some weeks ago at his myspace that he has quit drinking

And about his VH1 thing, it's a show called "Supergroup", a superband that has Bach, Ted Nugent and a lot of other rockers!! It'll premiere at May 21st!  : ok:

My buddy and I met most of the band outside (with the exceptions of Brain and Axl), and we didn't have too good of an experience meeting Finck either. The difference: we didn't mention anything about Reznor, NIN, etc. Finck actually jumped on my friend during the show and he mentioned that to him jokingly but what he got was a really cocky, "Well you got up, didn't you?" and walked away from us. Everyone else was awesome, especially Thal and Fortus.

Who knows maybe Robin is going through something in his personal life or maybe he has read the boards and seen some people bashing him and is disgusted with some of the fans. I wasn't happy that he just walked away from me.. but I care more about the music, and he's improved a lot since the last tour. Can't wait to see him rock out again. One thing that I don't get about him though is why he chooses to use the same guitar as Slash... he was taking a lot of heat for that by people in the crowd.. I heard a lot of people saying stuff like "you're not slash, use a different guitar." Now I don't know shit about instruments... does he have to use that same guitar to get the same tone on the solos???

Title: Re: Conversations I had with the band and Sebastion Bach in NYC...

Yes, the guitar is key for the tone on some of the old songs.  So its pretty natural that he will use some of the same guitars as Slash (and they are used by tons of other people really...)

Ok, I see. I didn't think he was doing it on purpose, you'd figure he would want his own identity and not "the guy using slash's guitar".. so he probably just uses it for the same tone.

Exactly.  Since he does a lot of the main solos he uses mostly Les Pauls. the other guys have various different guitars on stage.

Well allegedly most great guitarists/artists are inarticulate.  That's why they're forced to express themselves in music/art.
