Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Just listened to MMR this morning on my way in to work and they were talking about the New York gigs.

Nighttime DJ Mark Cord (the same guy that interviewed slash last year and got the march release date, also the same guy that had Tommy on his show last month) called in on his way back from New York after seeing both shows and partying last night.

Spoke very highly of the band and the shows and said that after the show last night he went to an after party and met Axl. He asked Axl why he went on the Eddie Trunk show and Axl said if Matt wanted him to come on his show he would come on. Matt told him that he would have to ask about Philly '02 and Axl said that's fine, he'll talk about it. He gave Matt his cell phone number and told him to give him a call.

He plans on calling him today to set up an interview possibly tonight.

His show runs from 7pm to 11pm EST.

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, matt's show is from 7 to 11. so it is likely to happen somewhere in that time frame. (after all on friday axl spoke to the press before the show in friday, i was next to the press box, watched them all run out for interviews, and then come back before they came on).

all he is probably going to do is call in and talk for ten minutes or so. not sit in.

I'd love to hear Axl's opinions on Velvet Revolver and Scott Weiland... I wish someone would ask him that. I would also like to hear his thoughts on Kurt Cobain's suicide, since Axl and Kurt had a big fued in 92' and Axl hasn't really been in the public eye since 1994...

Would love to hear it, very curious to the reason for the Philly show not happening and all that, but since I think it may not happen at all, I'm not staying up for that. Anybody?

oops, shouldve worded that differently.

i dont actually know if he talked to the press, but i do know that photographers, writers, and radio personalities were escorted from their VIP balcony by event staff backstage about an hour before the show started. then at about five minutes before the show they were brought back out.

 this does lead me to beleive that some interviews and photos were done. might not hear anything until after the shows.

im pretty sure mmr posts old interviews on their website, so if it happens and you miss it, it should turn up there.

if not there, then probably here. (or atleast a transcript)

Maybe they were there for Bullet... or maybe they were European press?? Did you recognize them?? Was it like Kurt Loder and other biggies?? (I don't get MTV, not sure what they're doing coverage wise).? ?Anything to watch for down the road??

Has the DJ said anything about Axl yet?  I tuned in just about 7:05 or so, so I missed the first 5 minutes of the show.  Anyone listen to the beginning?

it was good to hear that on mmr cause usually they are bashing axl on that station.

Yeah he seems like a big time fan.  I've been pleased with most of the reviews I've read so far.  Not many are giving the band itself much respect, but that's expected.  They have a lot to live up to and a lot to prove.  I think they can certainly do it, but an album of their OWN wouldn't hurt.  Axl's gotten good press all over so far himself.

Man what we do for you Axl.  Sitting here by my cpu listening to potentially hear you speak for a few minutes.  Not to mention sitting here trying to track each song you play once you hit the stage.  We're all nuts.  But I love it.

any word yet, i just started listening but havent heard any mention of the interview.

The DJ said at the beginning of the show he'd estimate there's a 65% chance of talking to Axl sometime tonight.  But he did say they were at a bar when that was said and you know how that goes.  People say lots of things at bars that they don't necessarily follow through on.

Alright I'm leaving for 40 minutes so Axl will probably come on in that time just so I miss him.

Matt Cord just reported that he spoke to his assistant, and Axl is with his vocal coach right now and isnt able to talk. They are planning on trying to do the interview tomorrow during his show.

He will still be giving his review of the concerts sometime during his show tonight.

And about VR, I don't care! If Axl hates them, great for him. If he likes them, I still don't give a rat's ass. I'm not basing my thoughts on anything other than GN'R off of what Axl thinks.

  I didn't put this in the other threads because I figured it was new.  I read about the dj up in Philly trashing Axl.  I sent an e-mail to the assistant program manager at the station.  Long story short, Axl may be on WMMR tonight during Matt Cord's 7-11? shift.  I've attached the e-mail response I got from an e-mail I sent out earlier today.  You can listen to WMMR on-line at WMMR.com.

Cord who does nights here at WMMR made some of the same points

did.  Pierre's very protective of this town and the rock fans in
it.
He's as passionate a rock fan as anyone and just wants
Philadelphia to
get an explanation that is acceptable.  Hopefully we will all be
getting
one tonight as Axl may be calling Matt during his show.  Right
now, all
we have is the memory of being stood up by Axl and Guns that
December
night some years ago.  And no one, not even Axl has ever
addressed it.
So by default (right or wrong) he's gotten the blame all this
time.
Hopefully we'll get some great information soon and this wound
will
heal, then we can get back to the business of hearing and
celebrating
Guns and Roses - old and new.

Wasn't WMMR going to have Axl on last week supposedly? Axl really should come clean on Philly (if he can legally) and put it behind him.

'if he can legally' being the point...he can't give CC or anyone else associated with the 02 tour legal leverage without risking alot of money for the himself.

i was driving back today, i was in ny last night for the show, and that dj pierre starts ripping guns n roses.  not to sound like an asshole, yes not showing up was wrong, theres no excuses for a band like gnr to just miss a show... but bitching about 4 years later doesnt help anything, and their demands that axl apologized and plays a free show are about as likely to happen as me hitting the lottery.  but why would axl want to go on a station thats ripping him.  what he should do if he can is just come clean about the whole 2002 tour, dont forget they missed vancouver to start off the tour.  and philly will get theirs too, tommy said in an interview in 04 they owe philly.  so nows a time not to bitch but to wait and see.

The reason Axl would go on a station that was ripping him is he hung out with a DJ (Matt Cord) from the station the other night after one of the show's.  They got along and he asked him why he went on Trunk's show and not his.  Axl told him he'd go on.  They tried to set something up last night but with the show and all figured tonight would make more sense.  We'll see if it happens.  Matt seems to be a huge fan of GNR though so I don't think for a second he would slam Axl.  He asked if they could touch on the cancelled show in 02 and Axl said, sure.  Again we'll see what happens.  Matt Cord had nothing but great things to say about the shows he took in over the weekend.

all he has to do is say something like,

"i can't go into details, but i do feel bad for the fans of philly that it had to go down that way, and hopefully i am able to play a show there and give them a kick ass night of rock n roll."

just show a little compasion towards your fans, and all is forgiven. it's very simple.

not true. matt cord was hanging with axl after the show the other night. he's good friends with stinson. he asked axl to call as a favor and axl said he would, but that was at 5am and he wasn't sure how serious he was.

They're playing Tom Sawyer back to back for some reason.  Taking this double play thing to a new extreme.

Matt Cord is awesome.

I'm sure not many people know this, but he's the in-house announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers.

By the time he passes on he'll be a true sports/music icon in Philadelphia.

Axl may have heard one of the early day DJ's Pierre Robert was bashing Axl for 20 minutes or so so he blew Philly off again?  Just speculation ???

i would if i were him. but i would call and tell them 'i was going to explain philly to you guys but pierre ruined it. sorry.'
