If you listen to the original enough, you'll know this one is different. The vocals are different, the guitars are COMPLETELY different, and the tempo is also a little slower. THe drums are obviously different as well. It's very, very similar to the live version played on May 12th.

judging from the twat file he's playing now, it sounds like its the same track from the leaks.  the mix itself sounds different, but its hard to tell if its different enough to be a totally different studio mix or a mix someone did on their own.  if i had to guess someone has done a really nice job cleaning up the leaks on their own.  i doubt these are new.

The 19 seconds I've heard of Check Mate sounds like it could be legit.  However, the IRS tempo is exactly the same.  One could easily layer effects on top of the pre-existing track.  I haven't heard the "new" TWAT yet, so I'll hold back my calling of shenanigans for now....but only for now.  Of course, why would anyone fake tstuff if you truly have unleaked tracks?  The night before closing @ Hammerstein, I am even more intrigued...

Checkmate is real for sure, if not, the guy could sing in Chinese Democracy and we would not notice. the other 2 demos could be edited, but VERY WELL EDITED, this would mean a lot of work, and it's just stupid so much work if you got an original demo yet to convince people. probably TWAT and IRS are tests like the ones we've already heard.

To make a long story short, this guy claimed to have stolen a cd from the studio and wanted someone to leak the whole cd or cds. He gave razz that clip as proof.  Razz didnt want to fuck over axls hard work and leak all the songs. Merck got wind of it and ask Razz to help catch the guy, and if they caught him he would get to meet axl and vip to hammerstein. After merck caught him he blew off razz.

ok... i've heard the irs demo.. and its not worth the trouble to download.. the quality is poor.. and the version that everyone already has is way better... there is a 16 min clip of checkmate.. the sound is better than the irs.. but not as good as the old leaks.. it might be from the same source as citr... it sounds about that quality.. but  couldn't really make a judgements based on the short clip.. i haven't heard anything about twat.. but if it sounds the same as the new irs.. then its not worth downloading either.. so i guess the only fuss.. that the last time this happend.. the full song leaked shorly after.. so hopfully we will hear a full version of checkmate soon..

Not enough there to bring that response, but I think you are referring to more leaks in general. you would really pass up the opportunity to hear more songs if they leaked? Interesting. We waited too damn long for the album, and there is still a chance it wont even come out this year.

yeah, its definitely starting to get ridiculous. If people have songs, they should either leak them or just keep it to themselves. One of my friends at ROV says he thinks he has heard this before, and its some obscure rock band. So most likely this is a fake. I think people posting fakes, or only posting tiny clips that cant be verified as being GNR should be banned. If nothing is ever done to prevent it, then this kind of stuff will always happen.

Imagine the atmosphere when CD release is a few weeks away. The first page on every forum will be loaded with a bunch of fake 10 second clips.

razz claimed to have "new versions" of IRS and TWAT and a 16 second clip of a new song "check mate", the quality of the new song is so shit you can't tell if it's legit or not.

the "new" IRS seems to be a poorly edited version of the one everyone has. boost to the low end and some shity layered guitar.

and noone seems to have heard the "new" TWAT

Actually, different versions are floating on the net depending on who recorded it. There are decent quality versions of the 16 second bit of Checkmate.


What Dave from these forums gathered from a phone call to RazZ (the DJ who played the leaks):

RazZ claims that someone approached him with a CD he apparently stole from the GnR studio.
RazZ contacted GnR management who told him that if he co-operated with them and helped them catch the thief they would give him VIP treatment at the Hammerstein gigs.
RazZ apparently helped them and they caught him (I think?) but GnR management didn't live up to their side of the bargain.
So RazZ decided to screw GnR management by playing Checkmate on his radio show and people have been crazy over it since.


Its all heresay at the moment and opinions are divided as to whether Checkmate is real or not. No official word from GnR management. Im leaning toward it being genuine but Im not totally convinced. Its also worth noting that the guy who leaked it apparently has a history of poor credibility.

I dont really know whats going on with the IRS and TWAT things. I heard a poor quality clip supposedly of the final cut of IRS but I couldnt make much out of it. Sounded almost verbatim to the Februrary leak to me.

I don't know if we are talking about the same track, but I listened to a very different version of TWAT, so different in all aspects (instrumentally, vocally, chorus, etc) in that Razz radio.

But I don't think that is really Axl singing there. For me, its just one guy copying (very good, IMHO) Axl's voice and style.

IRS is the same track we all have but with some shitty fx in it.

There's about 24 pages of stuff I have not yet read, so not sure if this has been discussed.  In addition, I haven't HEARD the clips, so....can't vouch for their validity on any level.

However, I did want to say this:

In Da Vinci Code movie, Teabing (one of the main characters) is a supposed chess master.  It's a central point to the movie.

It would make a whole lotta sense that, if GnR did contribute a song to Da Vinci, it might be called "Checkmate".  It would also make a whole lotta sense that anyone "making up" a story about GnR might want to ride that same train when creating a song title.

Right, after hearing the clip I think it may just be him afterall... it sounds pretty close to his voice tone, and it being his natural singing voice here. It sounds very catchy, and would be cool to hear more.

16 seconds? If you actually had those, you would leak listenable quality MP3s, not low quality sound clips where a few people have a hard time recognizing Axl.

I heard the "new" IRS. 

In my opinion, certain sounds are there that weren't there before, and the tempo is slowed down in some places.  Also, sounds that were there before are completely gone now. 

There a lot of places where it sounds like "Hey this guy just put his own effects over the top of what we already have." 

Then there are a lot of places where what we already have isn't even there anymore, and it's just completely new music. 

Unless someone has a way to take out music on a one channel song, or they somehow came across a version of IRS that had the vocals on one channel and the music on another, then I am convinced this is a different IRS than what we all have. 

As far as Checkmate goes, I don't know.  The clip I have sounds like Axl's voice on Catcher in the Rye, but it also briefly sounds like someone trying to be Axl.  So I don't have an opinion on that.  :)
