I doubt Axl gave a shit where Brain was back then. Axl thought Sorum was the best drummer in the world, so he hired him. Why go looking for someone when you already believe that you have the best?

I guess the thing to remember here is this is a third party comment from a guy who has seen both drummers play and spent time with the bands, so it's a great compliment to Brain from a guy like Bach to see him and think he is that good.

I remember when brain had trouble doing the ycbm intro.. I think it's kind of lame for baz to rip into matt, like him or not matt came in when gnr needed someone to fill a void and gave it his all.. Forum always seems to rip into people when they leave gnr.. I love sebation, walked right by me in line, said a what's up, smacked him on his back,  saw his stunning lady.. But he was not so great on my michele, he should keep quiet about matt, axl called him the best drummer on the planet so...

Everyone worships someone when they are in GNR, but the second they leave everyone thinks they are scum. I dont remember fans bitching about Sorum when he was there.

when matt was there i didn`t have the chance to bitch......  he was cool on some songs, but his look was awful in 91-92...

And there was me thinking Duff and Slash 'discovered' him when they went to see The Cult in LA and set the wheels in motion.

Go read Axl interviews, and listen to some old boots. Axl states many times that Sorum was the best drummer in the world. Slash and Duff may have "discovered" him, but do you think people are joining GNR that Axl doesn't approve of?

Brain is the shit. He has a more current style than Matt. Matt is good but he still plays like its the early '90's.

I love the 'after the fact' mentality people have about GnR these days where Axl is the saint who did no wrong and the other guys were doing everything possible to undermind him. Like Matt was brought in against Axl's will or something. Sheesh... :rofl:

Those of you who were actually old enough to be alive when UYI came out were all creaming yourselves when there was a new drummer in GnR, don't try to act like you acted any different you bunch of fairweather fans.

Matt kept gnr going, plain and simple and axl loved him back then and spoke highly of him.. Who cares how he looked.. I thought finck was great but his looks aren't my taste but big deal..

Yea Who cares how a talented musician looks.
Both are good but Brains drumming is more supple and groovy, than just powerful IMO. He can do like in any style.

I guess, but Matt has adapted well to the times. he's put away all the 80s clich?s and are doing a very just, hard rock drumming these days.

I've seen both drummers live several times, and matt is a damn good drummer, he is loud too.. Both are really good, it's that simple...

No sence of hating on guys no longer there that helped keep it going...

Both are good drummers-Axl has said a lot of things in the past about members-anyone remember "fuck Izzy Stradlin, here's Gilby Clarke"? I think who,ever is in Axl's band at that time is better than whomever he replaced

I fucking hope so. It was played the way it should be played before by Matt 80's style. That's the way it is.

If Brain wrecks it like he did a few years ago I say don't even play the song. Maybe some of you prefer that shit because it sounds "very mid 2000ish"... :hihi:

Yeh I heard the intro to YCBM from the May 12th show. It sounded a lot better than Matt played it and it sounded better than the way Brain played it in 2002.

Oh my god!  Everyone relax already.  People on here can take every little comment made by anyone way to literaly.  I think the only thing Baz meant by this was that Brain "is good".

Both are better than Stephen Adler and thats all that matters.

Still I think Axl should have tried to get Joey from Slipknot, that guy is the best rock drummer out there.  Also, it would be fun to see a guy do a drum solo at a gnr show while spinning upside down in a pentagram.

Matt Sorum could play any Gn'r song that Steven Adler played, Brian can't play You Could Be Mine!  :crying:  He fucked up songs so many times in 2002, that was sad, in rock in rio He Killed that song!

I can't believe he can't play YCBM...its not exactly difficult and Brain is a very competent player..

I always thought sorum was shitty..... even back in 91 i didnt like him....GnR have never had a strong drummer till now....

Sorum's ok...but his style is a little boring and predictable sometimes...I love Brain's drumming toward the end of CITR, some great fills

Actually, I remember exactly how I felt when I bought the Illusions albums right after they came out....I didn't like Matt at all. Not only did he look like a complete dork on the inside booklet picture, but his playing style was/still is very robotic and boring. 60 takes or not, Steven's drumming on Civil War compared to the rest of the album(s) is like night and day. I was actually excited when I first found out Brain was in Gnr because I've been a fan of his since Primus dropped the Brown album.? ?
? Maybe Matt did save Gnr at the time...but it definately didn't improve his drumming style, or lack of...He's just about the most solid drummer around, but thats about it to me....

Brain rocks on the Brown Album...one of his beats towards the end reminds me of John Bonham. Brain has a lot of feeling.

Brain plays with much more "groove" than Sorum and is therefore, in my mind at least, a better drummer for Guns N' Roses. There a lot of subtle textures to GN'R's sound, even going back to the AFD and UYI days, and a thundering drummer like Sorum is not a good mix with the intricate guitar and keyboard work in Guns' music IMHO.

Sorum is a fantastic drummer and a key part of GN'R history however, I just think the band sounds better with Brain.

What's interesting is that Axl felt the need to diss Sorum by way of introducing Brain. Makes me think that those Sorum comments about Axl from a few weeks ago actually were made AFTER they had met up in that club/party in NYC. I guess those two aren't ever going to be "the best of friends". :hihi:
