Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Wow, not even sure where to begin. It has been an amazing week that ended with one of the most incredibly special nights of radio in my 23 year career. I always preach that I do a different type of radio show and you never know what will happen, and last night backes that up BIG TIME! It is all over the web and news that Axl Rose picked my show to break a silence of over a decade. Sure Axl has done some very small interviews in the past, but this was a 2 1/2 hour hang with me, Sebastian Bach, Scott Ian and Chris Jerricho. When he walked into the studio to join us everyone was almost speachless for a second. There is WAY to much to talk about and cover. From how and why it happened, to what happened off the air, to what happened after the radio show ended and we hit the town until 6AM. Axl looked great and was totally cool. His only request was no photos, which is why none exist online. So much to tell you guys and I will post in much more detail very soon. In all honesty I am just completely wiped out and need some time to chill on all this. I also spent all day Friday with Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Scott Travis of Judas Priest. I'll also tell you about that soon. Also, I know there is audio all over the web, most of it incomplete. It was also great to clear the air and any tension with Axl between me and Mike Piazza over the leak. Mike actually called in and Axl was cool. I can not say THANK YOU enough to Sebastian Bach for making this all possible! Bas and I spent a couple days together doing radio and TV in support of the new Supergroup show and told me he would get this to happen and he did. Simply put this would never have happened with out Bas, I owe you big time bro! Much more to come about this historic night as soon as I get some sleep and recover. Cause every time theres a new photo of him theres 100 people speculating whether he had surgery or if he got new hair extensions and so on!!

i seriously doubt it... but he shouldnt have surgery or new hair extensions if he doesnt want people to specultate on it!

He cannot stop photos getting taken of him, when the tour starts what is he going to say "To all the press and you couple of thousands of people could you please not take any photos"

Then he'll have to stay in all week, and not go out. I think he just didn't want the guys to take his picture in the studio, because he wouldn't like the distraction. If they went out till 6 in a public place, people might have snapped a few pictures anyway.

That was one of the longest interviews Axl's ever done! Eddie is one lucky guy.

I agree this whole interview wasnt really an interview, I think to all the listeners and the people here on this board among others, were completely surpirsed as to what happened the other night. To put it frankly, this wasnt characteristic of Axl Rose, unfortunatly to say. It was a good thing that it happened and I think everybody who witnessed it have a different feel for him now. This is the time for W.A.R.! I dont know much about what Axl supposedly has in terms of mental ailments or depression/manic, whatever, but its more like sometimes, your trying to fit the square block into the circle hole. When your on a good trip like Axl was the other night, its more like fitting the square peg through the square hole. Welcome back Axl Rose and the rest of Guns n' Fuckin Roses!!!  :peace:

That was seriously the coolest fucking axl rose interview ever.  I think it rocks that people can hear him talk just like a regular human being.  Axl rocks.  Can't fucking wait for the 14th brothers!

I can understand Axl not wanting any photos.

Its late at night and he doesnt want the pressure of having to pose for photos.

I couldnt imagine having people scrutinize every little detail of your appearance.

He is a Rock God not a fuckin run way model.

I seriously doubt it will piss him off to where he walks off stage.  If he acts like that in anyway, ie. walks off stage doesn't come back on, doesn't show up, anything like that, the whole thing will be history.  As far as here in the states.  This is his redemption tour for lack of better words, at least in the promoters eyes I'm sure.  But the fans as well I think.

For anyone interested I e-mailed Trunk and he still has the briads but Trunk said he was in great shape better than 02.

that's cool.  In the sopranos pics you can tell he does look better than in 02.  Guess he's been working out a little bit.

If something like that did happen, the dude with the camera/vid recorder is going to get his ASS beat in.  While not nearly as good as a GNR show, it would be entertaining enough to see some dipshit get beaten to a bloody pulp by an enraged GNR crowd.

If that happened, a good way to add insult to injury would be for someone to snatch his camera, video him getting his ass kicked and post it online  :hihi:

what i cant understand is why there is nothing about Axl doing a 90+ minute interview/chat on the radio on google news i thought all the news sites would be buzzing about it does anyone apart from the forums know about this

Axl gets very little attention besides what goes around on the internet. I never heard anything on the radio, like on the KROCK concert calander about Guns and Roses at Hammerstein, it's never been on the news, etc.

The internet keeps him alive.

Just added some recap stuff in the Radio section** of this site. Getting hammered about Axl Rose's exclusive visit to the show, sorry I can't respond to all of you personally, it has been that crazy. Lot's of press and more news soon.

Few things to clear up:

I was able to go an extra hour with Axl because Q104 allowed me to! I can not do that every week without their permission!

This audio is can NOT be broadcast without permission! It is the property of Eddie Trunk and KGB Radio. We will be offering this show to stations as a special broadcast, please contact us for details.

A few have said we were to soft on Axl. Probably not the best time to hammer the guy and chase him out of the studio after he selected my show to break over a decade of silence. Many have emailed and said this was the best radio they ever heard and I say thanks for that. It was a hang, not a grilling. We got a ton of great stories and news from him and he stayed more than 2 hours because he was having fun and was relaxed. We still addressed all the rumours and much more, but it was all about how we did it, otherwise he would have bailed in 5 minutes I'm sure. My goal was to create a comfortable environment and serve the audience which I'm pretty sure we did in a big way (my guests also played a huge role in this!).

More news soon and yes the entire audio will soon be available on this site. What is posted online is not complete and the fun is hearing the build up, Axl's phone call, then his arrival in the studio! It's coming soon I promise.

Don't forget this show originally started as a Supergroup special. VH1's new show will air 5/21 at 10PM and air every Sunday after. Once you watch the show tune to VH1 Classic after and see a special post show I host with the guys.

Interviewed Ace and Peter for VH1 last week, both are doing great. Peter just finished his new solo CD he hopes to have out by the end of the year. Ace is auditioning some musicians and may do some shows later in the year. No new CD just yet. You will see portions of these interviews during VH1's Rock Honors show 5/31 at 9PM.

Not even sure where to start. The response from Axl Rose's visit to my studio has been unreal. There have already been stories in USA Today, The NY Daily News, MTV News, Billboard.com, Yahoo and countless others. This really was a historic night and one I will always remember. Thanks to all the guests that night, especially Axl who was a great sport and honored me by chosing to break his silence with my show. You will read much about this visit no doubt on all sorts of outlets. We are also going to be offering this entire show for broadcast as a special, so PDs please contact me through this site if interested. Now for a recap of what was said: * The new album will be out in the Fall * This new tour is being done because the timing is right and it's on Axl's terms. The last tour ended because he didn't feel it was right but it did help to soldify the band. * He would not announce the new lead guitarist. It is rumoured to be Derek Trucks * There was never an original lineup reunion in the works. * He is still close with Izzy * Chinese Democracy will be a single CD * He lived in China for a brief time Axl looked in great shape. Still has the braided hair. No photos were permitted. He told a ton of hysterical rock and roll road stories over the two plus hours he spent with us. He also called the show prior to coming in and let us hear the band over his cell phone. Mike Piazza called and the air was cleared over me leaking the new music a few years ago. After we left the studio I joined Axl and all my guests at a private club for a few drinks. Truly a night I will always remember to say the least. Thanks to Scott Ian, Sebastian Bach, Chris Jerricho & Don Jaimison, and of course W Axl Rose for making history on the Eddie Trunk Show! Derek Trucks? That would make a bit of sense because he did party with those guys a little while back...and that dude from Derek Trucks was the one who said Chinese Democracy was going to be a 3 CD set, which we now know is not true...hmmmm...

He parties with him in LA, too.   But I guess if Eddie wasn't so busy, he could have checked the DTB website to see Trucks performing overseas with Clapton and not rehearsing with Axl that night, and conflicting dates in the future.  (Doesn't he have interns for that?)

Well, just for something to think about, when BFMV was announced as the opener, they were scheduled to play other dates on different websites. 

And not to sound like a moron, but who's Derek Trucks...?

Its good to see Axls really into doing this this time around.  Theres a different vibe than the 02 tour.  And if its on Axls own terms like Trunk and Axl both said then i think that this may be GNRs year to comeback unlike previous ones.

Anyone else sick of Trunks and all of his self hype.  He was the absolute worst interviewer of all time.  His questions had nothing to do with GNR.  I understand that he wanted to keep Axl happy, but he could have asked better questions than "You used to like Maiden didnt you".  Its alright being a bad interviewer and all, but then he writes on his blog about how great he did, and how he was able to get into Axl's head and determine how far he could push him.  How hard would it be to ask "Whats the first single" or I dont think Axl would have been too offended if you asked something like, "Are there any covers."  The guy was horrible,w hich is fine, but someone should write him and inform himself he is just a lucky guy and not the next Giraldo.

Now, from their last show on the 17th, they've got 8 days to get to Europe and prep for the gig.

Personally, the part I enjoyed most about the interview was all the bullshittin, Trunk asked about the album, Axl answered, enough said. The stories were the best part.

It wasn't Axls interview it was Baz' and Scotts. Axl was a guest there and was treated like one with informal questions.

The 'interview' was absolutely fantastic. It was fun to listen and really I liked to listen to that.. Those questions will be answered when its time for that.


Really Id change that interview to the announcement of the first single anyday.

Id rather have a shoot the shit interview than straight and narrow, when is this, what is that kinda one....this interview was great, it showed axl as a real person with a great sense of humor rather than some high and mighty celebrity :peace:
