Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I realize that there are several setlist request threads but I am curious as to how Axl will approach this upcoming tour.  Guns N Roses (original lineup) were always known for mixing up the setlists every night.  I have read through many of the setlists from the Illusion Tours and was always impressed by their variation.  Axl truly mixed it up for the fans every night.  I was a little disappointed by the lack of song changes with the new lineup.  I realize that this is a new band who aren't going to learn the entire back catalogue but GN'R have a rabid fanbase that follows each and every show.  I think they could at least change around the order to keep things fresh.  Hopefully Axl will listen to some of the feedback on these boards for adding new songs. 

Besides the two Vegas shows in Dec 2001, the new lineup has not done a mulitple night stand at one venue (if I remember correctly).  I could see keeping the setlist the exact same for two nights, but does anyone really think it will be the exact same for all four shows at the Hammerstein?  Do you think Axl will change it up for the fans attending multiple nights?  I am going the last night so I will be avoiding the internet so I will still be surprised at the setlist if he doesn't change it night to night.  I think Axl will give us fans at least one rare track (ala Think About You) this tour that hasn't been played by this lineup.  Thoughts?   

I hope theey switch up the setlist every other night.  I think it gets boring after a while with the same ones.

The fact that it's a small venue and a warm-up show for huge festivals in Europe gives them license to try out new material, dust off some old stuff, etc...
I would be surprised if each night was the same set.
 

nah they are gonna play some songs that should be played in every concert...like wttj, pc and scom... and then they will play some new songs...
just like they did with the uyi tour... they will do try outs..

When I saw the Black Crowes do their Hammerstein run last year. They played 7nights over 10days I believe.

They changed their setlist every single night, never opening with the same song, never closing with the same. Only a handful of carry overs.

I really hope Guns N' Roses do this too. Open a show with Jungle, open the next with Its So Easy, or throw a curveball and open with a new song...etc

It makes for a more enjoyable experience one that the band will enjoy and one that us die hard gnr fans will love.

Totally agree.  Makes everything so much more interesting and you get to hear some songs you might not have heard in a while. 

If there's 20+ shows coming up, I'd rather not listen to 20+ bootlegs with the exact same songs in the exact same order.

This isn't a broadway show, it's a concert.

I highly doubt it will be the same, I don't think I've ever heard/seen a band who has played four nights in the same city and played the same set. They have to know alot of the people are attending more than one of the shows, especially with the way they sold the pre-sale tickets.

GNR rarely changed their sets in the past, so I doubt they'll do it now.  it was pretty much the same yet for the 2+ years of the UYI tour, it was pretty much the same set for the 2002.  no reason to think any differently now.

would i like a different set every night?  sure, but it won't happen.

im keen on the mixed sets, but when i have a nasty set list (as in openers n' last songs) i wanna give the same experience   to the next crowd, but oh well, ya cant have everyone watchin' the same show!! :-\

they might change the old tunes around, but I think anything new might stay

I think there will e a far fewer afd tunes this time , maybe smoe illusion tunes and perhaps if what was said is true, Id love for them to play tunes that may only be played for the moment that potentially will be slat3d for followup records, . NOw that would rock , not to shoot the wad at one shot, but keep people guessing, but at the same time give a release date for CD. And by doin so, letting the world know this isnt jstu gonna be a one shot deal.

Of course they're gonna play Jungle every night, what would a GNR show be if they didn't. But to tell you the truth, I think each night is gonna be switched up a bit. I'm going to the 12th and 14th show thus far (still want to see the 17th) and I'd be a bit pissed if the set list was the same. I think we're gonna hear new music.

Hell, I'd even trade the old music for the new music. If I had a choice between listening to their usual live songs like Sweet Child or Paradise City...I'd trade those in for something off Chinese Democracy is a second.

As everyone else has said, I also think it will be switched up  :smoking:

The 2001/2 got SO boring after awhile.

They should do what the old band did during the Illusion tour during the 1991 leg and not have a setlist but have a picklist and just play what they feel like at the time.

I  think it will be pretty much the same but the order might change.

I'll be upset if I don't get to hear a song that they only played on one night. But whatever. I'm sure it will all be good

There's a  big difference between playing the same or similar sets on a 2 year world tour in arenas and stadiums, versus mixing it up when you play in a small venue. 
In arenas, bands have to sync up the lights, music, and it's far more coreographed.
This is a perfect chance to keep things loose, experiement with some new songs, etc...

and they know many are attending more than one show.
I think each date they'll do something different.

I think that since so many people will be at more than one show theyll be playin different songs, but also keeping the core the same ie Paradise City, Jungle, Sweet Child, Madagascar, The Blues.   Then all the songs in between will be switched up every night.  Just my thoughts.

If you're looking for GN'R, it will be the guys on stage playing music alongside Axl Rose.

What he means is the new guns dont play the old songs with the same emotion and style. How could they.. They had shit to do with them.. Sad when you think about it.

You know what's even worse? They didn't even like GNR. And then they played 90% of GNR songs when they had a gig.

And they are in a band called GNR.

This lineup played Think about you quite a lot on the  02 tour.
And the old band played the same songs,  just in different order. And sometimes in the same order, I am thinking of the 92 tour.

I can't help but hope for something like that!!

I hope they are different.. for the most part 2001/2002 they have all been the same... if you have heard one bootleg you have pretty much heard all the shows..... kinda boring owning an entire CD book with 50+ CD's and they all have the same set list.....

I have a good feeling that they will mix it up to a certain extent. I think each show in NYC will get a different setlist.

Hahaha.....thats funny about Silkworms. In all seriousness, if they played that long it'd be the greatest gig ever in the history of the band. There's a show from California in 1991 where they played for right around 3 hours. That to my knowledge is the longest show to date.

The longest show was almost 4 hours.? August 3rd, 1991. at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, CA.

Always been a big GNR fan, but never got into collecting bootlegs - where would I find one of that show?  Because that is an amazing setlist!!!

Any guesses as to how many hereto unheard songs GNR will play beginning Friday and through next week? I predict 1, 2 at most. If the album is "regular" length, they only have at most 6-8 songs to spare.

I m guessing they will play, CD, Madagascar, the  blues, IRS, TWAT, CITR and Better and maybe the first single. Since those songs are already out there I dont think it will be matter if they are bootleged. I hope to god they dont do the same set list as the 2002 tour.

why? it would be cool to hear more new material, but some of us haven't seen them live yet and would be more than content with just seeing them perform the classics and a few new songs, whether they have been played before or not. anything else would just be a huge bonus.

I'm afraid it ill be about the same setlist as RIR3.

I HOPE they play My Michelle.  It's a personal favorite.

They skipped it during the '02 date in Hartford.

Other than that, I have no preference.  Anything that's been released and/or leaked and/or appears on bootlegs would be fine with me.

I'm not sure we can leap to that conclusion quite yet.  I mean, it's possible that will be true but, lets face it, Nightrain and Paradise City are going to be set list staples for, probably, as long as the band exists and plays live shows.  Ditto with WTTJ and SCOM.  I don't think we can really conclude anything based on NT and PC being rehersed.

a friend and i theorized that the reason why axl doesnt play much off of the illusion albums is because most of the songs arent his, they are slash's or izzy's. ofcourse that means that im saying his contributions are november rain, you could be mine, and two cover songs, so i might be a little off, but it i think that makes sense given his reason for not playing songs like dont cry.

also, we already know madagascar is in there from the radio interview.

And most of the songs on Appetite arn't fully his but he still played all of Appetite (minus 2 songs) during 2001/2.

yeah but his involvement couldve been more then being on the phone with some guy and saying "ok, ill do your song if you do _____'s song"

as the tour progresses and the CD is closer to being released, I think we'll slowly see the old songs stopped being played and new songs being introduced.

I know alot of times bands set lists are hard to change up due to the lighting and effects that are played during each song are programmed ahead of time.... i think the perfect setlists would be the 02 setlist plus the leaks with a rotation of some illusions songs for the other nights.

im not gonna complain but ill scratch my head if its the same setlist as 02. I totally understood the 02 tour and what they were trying to do, and Axl even confirmed that on the interview but honestly theres no point in touring if its 02 all over again. Actually theres no point in touring if they dont have a release date in sight or atleast play the leaks or more new songs...

KOHD, Think About You, Out Ta Get Me, My Michelle and replace them with the leaks.? I love those songs but i think they can be put to rest for the time being.? I dont even expect any other new songs.? I dont wanna ruin the whole album but about half and half would be the ideal setlist.

Well if we're going with a 20 song setlist:

10 songs that are played every night: 5 classics (wttj and the like), 4 new ones that we heard already and 1 of the leaks.

20 songs that are in some random rotation, choose 10 of them every night:
eg: get some rotation going between a few older 'big guns': estranged, coma, locomotive, civil war and breakdown...

They shouldn't have a fixed setlist each night, although I still think it's kinda cool to start with WTTJ and to end with PC.

I think that if they did someting like this they would make every night that bit extra special for the fans!

but gnr don't want to make anything special - they'll have the same setlist every night. And I think it will be the same as in 2002.

thats what i think also.... we can all dream up set lists but the lights and effects have to be programmed in advance and im sure it would be easy to just dust off what they left off with in 2002... Its gonna be the same...I bet on it..

axl said in his interview that he hadn't heard the leaks.....(not sure if i believe that).....so, everyone id dying to hear these songs at
the upcoming shows, if axl hasn't heard the leaks, then he doesn't know which songs they are, thus he might not play them.

or the opposite, he has heard them, but wasn;t going to play them, but now feels pressured by fan expectation?

whats does everybody think? think we'll hear, IRS, TWAT CITR and better along with the other songs we have already heard?


p.s does anybody believe that more studio leaks will come? i mean, if the february leaks sounded like advanced demos and the band didn't play them live, sy=urely the songs he did play live eg the blues etc. must actually be done and dusted and therefore be a concrete recording of it somewhere?

he sure knows wich songs leaked, he only said he didin't heard them.

I'm sure he knows which tracks are leaked, but I believed he meant he hasn't heard the leaked versions.
(Personally, I think he lied about this one - a control freak like Axl would most certainly get to hear the leaked versions...)
He's totally aware of our expectations.
(We wanna hear as many new tracks as possible tomorrow!!!!  :rant:)

i just wondered if we were all setting ourselves up to hear something totally epic like, TWAT, and then being dissapointed, just trying to keep the feet on the ground i suppose

I think i saw it on SPIN.com .. but it was a trusted news article and though it did not quote Axl, it said that at the New York shows, they would deffinetly play some new songs.. they said something about 15 minutes of new material...

i really cant see there been the same setlist as 2002, like axl sed, he was forced into the 2002 tour, hopefully he'll have some kick ass songs for us, aswel as estranged etc. People keep saying they hope he'll sing yesterdays, i dont think his voice could hack that song anymore

I don't want to start shit or anything it is just a thought. Axl said he didn't listen to the leaks - I find it odd he didn't want to find out where it came from and go for the throat of they one who did it - if I were him I'm sure as hell I would - but then later while comenting on the leaks he said "people will hear the solo and say someone else wrote it because they don't like the person who is playing it". When I heard that I had the impression he was referring to the the posts on the forums by the time the songs leaked when people were fighting saying Finck wrote them or that it was totally Buckethead etc etc etc I don't have to quote everything here because you all know what I'm talking about - It sounded like Axl also does.Especially if you consider his answer to Trunks question about keeping up with all that stuff or if he rolled it off his back to which he replied that he had to keep up on it because there's a lot of stuff that needs to be shut down otherwise it would be a lot worse.
So when he said "it's gonna be a regular CD but there are still some songs that are shuffling around CD 1 and CD 2 I said BINGO

I guess we won't hear much we haven't heard. Because of the leaks, they might not want to let anymore of the stuff out otherwise there will be nothing left for the release.
