Title: Who am I?
Post by: SLCPUNK on May 10, 2006, 03:37:17 AM
_______  is God made flesh, the savior and 'Son of God'.

- His father is God and his mother is a mortal virgin.

- He is born in a cave or humble cowshed on 25 December before three shepherds.

- He offers his followers the chance to be born again through the rites to baptism.

- He miraculously turns water into wine at a marriage ceremony.

- He rides triumphantly into town on a donkey while people wave palm leaves to honor him.

- He dies at Easter time as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.

- After his death he descends to hell, then on the third day he rises from the dead and ascends to heaven in glory.

- His followers await his return as the judge during the Last Days.

- His death and resurrection are celebrated by a ritual meal of bread and wine which symbolize his body and blood.

If you answered: Osiris or Dionysus, then you are correct!

I think hes trying to say that all religions are basically the same thing.

Or maybe hes just saying some crap and trying to make us think.

Maybe he knows I was going to figure that out eventually.

Maybe he did it so I would find out and make that comment so he could comment back and look smart.

Maybe he knew he was going to comment back and look smart and then this whole thread was going to make sense it was going to say that the Ancient Egyptians really founded christianity.

Maybe hes trying to say that when the Egyptians founded christianity the christians really stole it.

And when he says that everyone will get mad and he'll bring it right around back to that story.

Ahhh!!  I see what hes trying to do here.

If you answered either of those you'd be wrong.  All personal beliefs aside, your defining characteristics listed with the exception of one or two have nothing to do with those individuals.  only Christ meets that criteria.  But if you're trying to stir up shit, I think you've found a good way.  Of course you'll claim your innocent, but anyone who actually looks up Osiris or Dionysus will see that they have maybe two things in common with that list.  Nice try. : ok:

Critics have labeled the claims of The Jesus Mysteries far-fetched and based on insufficient research. For example, David Allan Dodson, a reviewer for CNN, found the book to be interesting, he stated that "while the authors discuss many examples of elements of Osiris/Dionysus in the Jesus story, they virtually ignore the more direct ties to Jewish tradition and prophecy. This oversight undermines the credibility of many of their arguments, and could have the tendency to mislead the novice reader in this subject". (CNN.com, "Review: Jesus -- man or myth?", September 21, 2000)

Hey, I'm with you.  I don't follow organized relgion at all.  The greek gods are badas, ecspecially Apollo and Aires, but give credit where credit is due.  Scholars agree Christ existed.  Granted there were many people claiming to the messiah, but Judaism is credited with being the first monotheist religion.  Christ was a part of that and supposedly fulfilled Judaism's prophecy.  It just bothers me that it's open range on Christianity, but if someone attacks Judaism, they're labeled an anti-semite and god forbid someone knock Islam (aka the greatest hits of every other religion) or show Mohammed.  Why the double standard?

First i will start off with....... Slc your a punk.... for starting this thread.

now to gun slinger:

Is it your true beleif that Christianty is uneblished  nor does it omit information about the figure "Jesus", and what his/her life was truely life to be able to more clearly match with that of the Hebrew prophecy of the coming saviour for their people?

It is clearly documented that as Christianity spread to new areas of hardened Pagan beleifs they would take the worishiped deity and mold theim and their story into that of a Saint or some such figure, and take pagan rituals and make them their own.

Oh come on now, you missed out Poseidon! Zeus > Poseidon > Hades > The rest.

If you answered either of those you'd be wrong.  All personal beliefs aside, your defining characteristics listed with the exception of one or two have nothing to do with those individuals.

... My knowledge isn't extensive, but that's what I thought. Though, I'd slip an almost into that statement. Maybe even a pretty much.

I agree: Greek Gods and mythologies are awesome! But if we all started worshipping the Greek Gods again, you do realize that the ancient Greeks used to sacrifice lambs and calves to "appease" the Gods right!? Do you really wanna start doin' all that shit again? :hihi:

Personally I prefer Norse mythology.... that shit is awesome! I want an eight legged horse! ;D

But whatever mythology I think is cooler, I still just believe in reincarnation. That's it. If we lived a good life, we come back as a higher life form and we'll have a happier life (which some people might mistake for "heaven"), and if we lived a bad life, we come back as a lower life form... not necessarily "hell" but just an animal or somethin'. : ok:

Reincarnation rocks!

Do you know what that entailed? Generally burning a bit o' meat and then having a big ol' feast; nice bit o' munch "and nobody went without his share."

I don't know about you, but I'm sold.

Au Contraire mon frere.....

"However, Dionysus hardly is the only character from the past whose life parallels that of Jesus. Prometheus is another legendary, mythological god who experienced a death similar to that of Christ. The following poem describes his purported death.

?Lo! Streaming from the fatal tree,
His all atoning blood.
Is this the Infinite??Yes, ?tis he,
Prometheus, and a God!
Well might the sun in darkness hide,
And veil his glories in,
When God, the great
Prometheus, died
For man the creature?s sin.?
(Graves, 1875, p. 124)

The fact that Prometheus is called ?God? who died for ?man the creature?s sin? is similar enough to the New Testament account about Christ?s atoning visit to Earth to raise eyebrows. But the fact that the story first circulated around 547 B.C. could well cast a shadow of a doubt on the claim that Christ is the unique, one-of-a-kind Savior-God. "

Kyle Butt, M.A. and Bert Thompson, Ph.D.
