Title: 93.3 WMMR Reports GNR Has 4 Guitarists
Post by: PhillyRiot on May 09, 2006, 10:57:28 PM
I did listen to the entire Axl radio show, so I am not sure this is considered news or not but.....

Around 10:35 pm tonight, I was listening to DJ Matt Court on Philadelphia rock station 93.3 WMMR.? He played Paradise City and Live and Let Die.? After the two songs were over he mentioned the HammerStein shows.? He then mentioned how he is friend's with Tommy Stinson.? He clearly said GNR has 4 guitarists.? According to Court, Tommy told him GNR will have 4 guitarists: Richard Fortus, Robin, IZZY STRADLIN, and a fourth suprise guitarist.? So according to him, Izzy is NOT the surprise, but he IS performing.? That immediately gives Axl's use of the name Guns N' Roses more validity. This DJ did have Tommy in the studio a few weeks ago, and did seem to know what he was talking about.? He also had is picture taken with Axl when Axl came to Philly for the NBA Championship here, a few years back.? Luckily, I will know firsthand Friday night, as I make the voyage to the Hammerstein!

I want to hear Dust N' Bones live baby!!!!

WTF, Izzy is not even the surprise?

Is God going to show up?

Only person that would shock my is Slash, or Lenny Kravitz (god no). 4 Guitarist suck anyway, 3 is too many for GNR as is.

First off:  Axl went in 2001 to the NBA championship!  Secondly, 4 is a bit redundant....

If Izzy actually does play and stuff, thats gotta get the wheels in motion for a reunion. IMO.

Title: Re: 93.3 WMMR Reports GNR Has 4 Guitarists
Post by: jbenzz on May 09, 2006, 11:02:54 PM
I'd guess that Izzy is a guest guitarist and isn't actually part of the band.   So GNR probably only has 3 guitarists.  If any band is playing a show and they have a guest guitarist show up, they don't ditch one of theirs to accomodate, they just add the guest, so this shouldn't be seen as any different.  We've already heard that Izzy might show up.

Title: Re: 93.3 WMMR Reports GNR Has 4 Guitarists
Post by: PhillyRiot on May 09, 2006, 11:03:15 PM
I like JBENZ theory, probably the most likely.? He is probably a guest.? If Izzy plays every song though, it would then raise the question if he is on Chinese Democracy.

I think it it also interesting to point out something obvious:  Izzy Stradlin will have played with BOTH Velvet Revolver and the new Guns N' Roses.

if izzy shows up, first of all if its just for a night and like 4 songs its not a big deal, if he does more then 4 songs on all 4 nights, then somethings up

   Great post. ?

Four guitar players - a little overkill. ?I'd love to see Izzy back in the fold - who knows. ?We should all stop speculating and see what happens in 72 HOURS!!!

I think those with tickets for the later shows will have a great chance to see Izzy take the stage for a couple of songs.

But Axl did say that there is an equal chance that Izzy takes a vacation to Brazil on a whim....

GLORY DAYS: Toured with the band from 1992 to 1994. After one pomp-rock ballad too many, Gilby politely suggested that the band might rock out a bit more... so Axl sacked him.
GILBY ON AXL: "I don't really talk to the man much any more."
 ? ? ?
BRIAN MAY
WHO IS HE? The fright-haired, 80s Queen legend. He wrote some tunes you might just recognise...
GLORY DAYS: Played on early sessions for Chinese Democracy with Mr Rose. Who knows, we might even get to hear some of the stuff he did one day!
BRIAN ON AXL "He's not always easy [to work with] He's utterly meticulous."

ZAKKWYLDE
WHO IS HE? Beer-swilling New Jersey axe-for-hire. Plays for Ozzy Osbourne as well as fronting his own project, which is called Black Label Society.
GLORY DAYS: Zakk jammed with the band in 1995. He'd barely tuned up when he got his marching orders.
ZAKK ON AXL: "I saw Axl not so long ago... and I said 'Get the . fuck out of here.'"

PAUL HUGE
WHO IS HE? His surname is apparently pronounced 'hoogee.' Childhood friend of Axl. Also, named the 'Yoko Ono of Guns N' Roses' by Matt Sorum.
GLORY DAYS: Replaced Gilby Clarke in 1994. Slash couldn't stand him, and promptly quit. Huge, meanwhile, managed to cling on until last year.
PAUL ON AXL: "We're still friends."
 ? ? ?
ROBIN FINCK ?
WHO IS HE? Nine Inch Nails guitarist, poached by Axl on the strength of his cutting edge, industrial sound.
GLORY DAYS: Replaced Slash as lead guitarist between 1997 and 1999. Still occasionally turns up for live gigs.
ROBIN ON AXL: "I doubt very much that record will come out any time soon."

DAVE NAVARRO
WHO IS HE? Formerly of Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers fame, the man's an exceptional guitarist.
GLORY DAYS: Played a solo on Oh My God (from the End Of Days soundtrack) back in 1999. One afternoon with Axl was quite enough for Dave.
DAVE ON AXL: "It just never worked out."

BUCKETHEAD
WHO IS HE? A mystery wrapped in an enigma topped off with a KFC bucket. What more could you ask for! He used to be in avant-funk oddballs, Praxis, and once auditioned for the Chilis.
GLORY DAYS: Joined in 2000 and is still there. How long will he last?
BUCKETHEAD ON AXL: "..."

last time I checked, Bass was a 'guitar' so yeah, there could be four.? :hihi:

That's the first thing I thought of. Especially with the comments coming from Stinson, he probably likes to think of himself as a guitarist.

i reckon izzy wouldv been a permanent member except hes really unreliable as axl said. He's probly turned up to a few of there rehersals and will play with them occasionaly as a guest. I know Axl didnt actulaly say "playing" with izzy, just that izzy might come and watch, but with this news as well, and judging by the way Axl said it im fairly sure he meant playing with guns n roses.

The 3rd guitarist - I have no idea what Tracii guns sounds like - could it be him?

That's what I thought that they were just classing bass as guitar, so that would make "4 guitarists" if that's what they ment.

I hope there isn't 4 guitarists (5 w/ bass) because that's so over the top for any band, especially when it used to only take 2 guitarists to play the songs.

Izzy won't be a perminant player I can't see it, he does his own stuff his own way. Same way he didn't join VR, he still wrote with them and made guest appearances live but was never a perminant member because he wanted to continue with his solo stuff.

Has Zack Wilde totally been eliminated as an option? ?That stuff Axl was playing through his cell phone the other night reminded me of him.

Zakk hates Axl with a passion plus he's in ozzfest and gonna be working on a new cd with ozzy

I think that is untrue, they had a miscommunication ..... There's an interview somewere

4 guitar players.. Izzy and slash :hihi:

I think it's pretty safe to say that the new guitarist is not going to be any former member of GN'R. If Axl and the former GN'R members (Izzy, Matt, maybe Slash, and he never seemed to have a problem with Duff, really) are finally patching things up on a personal level, why would you want to repeat the same mistakes that made you fall out in the first place?

Well you would think a decade or better later you would become smarter, more understanding, and more tolerable of eachother..  I know it's not the case this time around, just saying many bands who wise up change...

anyways all you have to do is tour a couple of weeks/months then do your own thing for several years until axl is ready again, seems like anyone can handle that :hihi:

I kinda think you self-answered that one. I mean....he wouldn't make it a surprise if we didn't know the new guitarist somehow?? stop the name dropping. most of you didn't knew who finck, fortus, stinson, bucket or brain were before they joined gn'r. Axl said, about the new guitar player, that it has nothing to do with the past.
and i guess this will be just like in 2002 when fortus appeared for the 1st time on stage in hong kong.

I want to hear Dust N' Bones live baby!!!!

if izzy shows, he'll be only a guest. he's not in the band, Axl said so himself in the trunk interview

I still don't even know the new gnr guys really.. it's not like they toured a really long time and were in the spotlight.. It's almost unreal that tommy or robin have been in this band that long... Gnr's reign lasted 87-93, these guys have been there longer and no one even knows this.. I really don't give  shit who they get really, all I know is regardless of his talent everyone will be like he's awesome, best ever :hihi:

I don't know....

See, I've never gotten the the "personal animosity" vibe between Izzy and Axl.  I mean, Axl has certainly been frank about Izzy's drug use, and it's negative effect on the band, but in hearing the stories, even during the '02 tour and the recent Trunk interview...you don't get that Axl was pissed at him.  They're told more as funny anecodtes, than scathing diatribes.

And, given the Trunk interview, it almost sounds like the big UYI schism was actually more between Izzy and Slash than it was Izzy and Axl.

I've always thought (and recently said as much) that the most likely old member to return (which isn't to say it's likely, just more likely than the others) would be Izzy.  His personal relationship with Axl predates GnR.  They have loads in common, and, if there was a rift, they have some common ground to help repair it.  It seems that Axl's one and only beef with Izzy was (if you can call it a beef) his drug use.  And that, apparently, is no longer a problem.

Now, Izzy is a bit of a free spirit, that's for sure.  And just 'cause we see him in NYC, or at RIR, doesn't, I think, mean he'll show up anywhere elese.  In other words...a few shows doesn't make a reunion, anymore than the VR shows Izzy did meant he was in VR.

Not in the band? Yes.

Not going to do a guest shot on stage with GnR? Eh...we'll have to wait and see.  It wouldn't surprise me if he did...wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

I could see him coming out to do a couple of songs (Don't Cry, for example), just as a guest, especially for the NYC shows.

See, this is what was so great about the Axl interview.  It gave us just enough info to satisfy us AND heighten the anticipation for the NYC shows.  Friday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday are going to be good days to be GnR fans!  : ok:

I would tend to agree...maybe not "famous/famous", but at least well known.

The OTHER alternative is that it's someone who is from a well known band but has yet to let them know he's in GnR, and leaving his current setup.? And, for the record, NO I'M NOT SUGGESTING THAT "SOMEONE" IS IN A BAND WITH THE INITIALS VR! :)

As for why we keep talking about it and speculating: ?It's fun. ?And it heightens the sense of anticipation for the upcoming shows.

I know that, Friday night at about 6:30 PM, I'm parking myself infront of my PC and not leaving until GnR leaves the stage and we get a complete report on the show.

There will be more then plenty of updates from the show, but I want to remind everyone of something. Axl didn't really make it out sound like it was gonna be a big surprise or something. I'm not saying the guy isn't gonna be famous, but I just think everyone is reading WAY too much into the secrecy.

I really think the best explination is just to try and let the guys playing with GNR speak for itself.

Izzy's getting more attention than ever right now. I wonder if he's loving these rumors of " Are you in Guns n Roses " or not. I personally can't wait to hear the reports from the concerts.

was listening to the morning show on mmr this morning and Matt Cord stopped by. He mentioned that he will be doing concert coverage on the GNR show on the 12th.

he also mention the 4 guitarist thing again and when asked what he meant by 4 he said richard, robin, an as of yet to be announced guitarist, and izzy is back, then he said 'oops, actually i dont think i was supposed to tell you that'.

I predict that at some point in the show, Dizzy will play some rhythm (remember the "Dizzy's Guitar Tech" post?), if Izzy shows up and jams, that would be cool. ?And maybe even Axl will pick up a guitar. Plus, if Axl wasn't being coy, when he said there was a new guitarist, but it was no one from the past, then there is a new guy. ?

So how about a ten minute version of Paradise City as an encore, with Robin, Richard, Izzy, new guy, Dizzy and Axl all trading solos at the end?

Hahaha! ?What a trainwreck that would be! ? Or could they pull it off......?

I don't know if this rumor is right or wrong, but either way, don't you guys think that the "surprise" guy will HAVE to be famous? ?Seriously, like if it's this guy Batio or whatever, who besides a few people on a message board are going to know who it is? ? ?

Once again - remember - there are probably more Gn'R fans who DON'T follow them on a day by day basis like we do. ?So in my humble opinion, if Axl has a surprise, it's someone famous.

Its...STEVEN ADLER!!!!

I really think it will be Brian May.  I don't think he is joining the group, just think he will be playing with them.

i actually like that idea..... but 10 minutes is way too short though. 17 minutes seem more adequate

true...that is a possibility...while brian may is a big name and a respected guitarist...he is a little too old for gnr's image...he could do a few shows, but should not be a full-time member

I really don't think Brian May is a possibility at all.  He's got plenty of money and fame.  I just don't see this happening.

I agree, in fact he even said himself that he wasn't interested in touring a large scale tour that gnr would prolly do. and Queen are touring anyway themselves aren't they?

how about

Axl

Dizzy, Chris and Axl trading Piano/Keyboard

Brain on Drums and PopCorn on the Cowbell

Dizzy, Izzy, Slash, Robin, Richard, and new guy all on guitar  EXCEPT when axl plays guitar for the madagascar intro and Tommy plays the guitar on the Gorrilla Head songs they play..

Tommy on Bass excpet when hes playing guitar on the Gorrilla Head songs... in that time Chris Pitman will play Bass..

Slash and Brian May will cameo for the 22 minute PC outro and the Night Train Solo

Paul Huge will be back to cover Dizzys piano parts during Dizzys DJ set after Silkworms.....

What do you think???????? They could pull it off???????? or its gonna be a train wreck???????

3 guitar players are already too much, 2 are enough, so 4? no way. I think it's BS.

Four is too many. I agree with Nesquick even 3 is too much. Lead and Rythem is what you need. But I'd rather have 3 than four guitar players.

don't collective soul and radiohead each have 4 guitarists? or is it 3?

I think that 3 is an acceptable #.....you can play closer to the studio recordings....even alot of the orig gnr tunes have at least 3 guitar tracks on them

And they also need another guitarist to play the new material (the leaks) and I'm pretty sure that there is other stuff too.

If they haven't redone them or anything like that, but I highly doubt that because there is a new guitarist.

Pretty soon Axl is gonna go for a sprint and run face first intoa guitar player or a drum kit or a keyboard stand.
