Title: Tommy Stinson poster seen on SNL
Post by: Lady Livin on October 02, 2004, 11:51:47 PM
just thought I'd mention that a new season of SNL just started, and right after a sketch before going to commercial, I noticed one of those gig ads on a pole in NY for Tommy Stinson, and thought that was cool.

I noticed it right away.  Gn'r is more public than we think sometimes.

Yeah I saw that too, would have been cool if it was an ad for him doing the show though.  BTW, i watched the first hour or so of the show, and thought the show was horrible.  SNL hasn't had a good cast in awhile, i couldn't believe how bad some of the cast members were, hard to believe that this was the same show that has produced so many great comedic talents.

yeah, I agree about not having a great cast in a while, but this episode actually wasn't too bad. there were only a few sketches that absolutely bombed. but hey, it's Ben affleck, what do you expect? I watched one of those "classic" ones that come on at 3am, and that one seriously just made this new one look like a goddamn Chris Walken episode. ie, impressive.

January 18, 1986.

General Tommy Stinson. 19 freakin' years old. The fourth album/masterpiece by the Mats, "Tim" was released. Live Like a Suicide was still almost a year away.

Sorry-could only find this clip of "Bastards of Young" I don't know anywhere that has "Kiss Me On The Bus" (although I got it buried on some old videotape).

 : ok:

They have random shots of New York scenery that are shown before and after commercial breaks.

A flyer for one of Tommy's New York concerts happened to be on a street pole in one of the shots.

Whats the deal with Tommy? So far we know Richard and Dizzy are definetly in for the tour based on their respective websites, we' re assuming robin is most likely goign to be there.? But we havent heard anything from tommy, for most of 2004 he was kind of the face for gnr, like how richard was for 2005 talking through his emails.? However Tommy has mention anything about gnr since september. so is tommys band member status up in the air or is he in?

Of all the new guys, Tommy seems to be the most committed to gnr. I think the day he leaves is the day that Axl gives up and phones Slash and Duff.

SNL isn't trying to feature Tommy. That shot has been on SNL for a long time - several seasons if I remember correctly. They just shot a telephone pole and a poster for one of Tommy's NY solo gigs happened to be plastered on the pole. Smaller bands put flyers up on poles and building walls all the time. Remember the cover of Live Era? That's all it is.

I think the Paul Simon episode was the first one back after 9/11 happened so it's years old.

It has nothing to do with GNR and some cryptic "they're coming" message. It's a coincidence.

Thanks for the update bro...I noticed it too. Stinson rawks hard. Just picked up a copy of "Tim" by the Replacements yeterday, and it's a classic...Stinson's solo album is really good also. : ok:
