A party including Axl Rose, Merck Mercuriadis and Izzy Stradlin had dinner together at Pre:Post in New York on 11th April to celebrate Izzy's birthday.

During the meal, Izzy had 'Happy Birthday' sung to him by a staff member.

You know...of all the "reunion" rumors...this is the one I'd lend the most credence to.

That's not to say I think it WILL happen, but it's the one I think more likely than any other.

Well Axl and Izzy are like best friends. Even if they are in the band together or not. I would not put it past them to join up once again but, I will only believe it when I see it. It proally was just a birthday get together and Axl asked maybe for some advice on the cd or looking for a third guy. Yet, outta all of Axl's "other friends" he would be the only one to join again in my book. Unless they were inducted in the hall of fame or all in their 60s.

Stop jumping to reunion rumours, this doesn't even inply a musical reunion.

Axl and Izzy were friends for over 14 years and Axl was gutted when Izzy left, oviously over the years they've put all there shit behind them and are friends again.

Just because he went out to celebrate Izzys birthday doesn't indicate one bit that he's back in the band

Isn't Izzy's birthday on the 8th of April? Why would they have a party on a Tuesday night 3 days after Izzy's birthday when they coulda had on on his actual birthday on a Saturday.

Yeah, I don't see him being back in the band as Izzy doesn't even like to tour the whole world etc.... but it's a nice thought I guess.

Izzy has always been the key to a reunion, so im happy he is hanging with Axl. I wouldnt bet against for a suprise guest spot on the NY dates as he did with VR on some dates aswell. Some people assume he either returns a full fledge GNR member or not.

I have someone who works with Izzy, and is a session musician and producer in Nashville and L.A. ?I am going to see if he has anything regarding the possibility of Izzy at least writing with Axl. ?I also am curious, if the person who said that Axl is hosting late night listening parties at a studio in NY, was mixed up when he said that Axl was working with an "old school" drummer from the Guns clan. ?Izzy used to be a drummer, but my bet is, if there is any validity to the guy's statement, is that Axl and Izzy maybe writing and recording together in NY. ?If one is a GNR fan, they should realize, that Axl and Izzy wrote 90% of GNR's material, and are the Jaggar/Richards, McCartney/Lennon of GNR!!!

I doubt any and all reunion rumors, until proven otherwise. However, how likely would a writing partnership be? Aerosmith brings in a few people on a consistent basis to help out with the writing of new songs. Maybe Axl would like to write with Izzy again?

Do you think Axl is feeling the presure and feels he needs one original GnR member on stage with him. Similar to Buckethead wanting Brain there and why Steven was in GnR as drummer probably because he was mates with Slash and Slash needed that.

Axl seems to be in a really calm and peaceful state of mind from all the pictures we've seen from '06 so far, so I could only imagine what dinner would have been like for the two, after who knows how long of not seeing eachother in person.

They grew up together in Indiana, so there brothers really, and when a brother possibly needs a third guitarist....he knows he can always count on his bro' ;)

Since this chick can't even spell Axl Rose correctly, (she spells it Axel)

I bet WHO she thought was IZZY was really RICHARD FORTUS.

The two look similar and Axl even has said in statements that Richard is like Izzy.

Richard was in LA rehearsing with the band at that time though.

It'd be cool if Izzy made a guest appearance for Patience during a New York show, but that's about all I can envision him being involved with this. Nice to see him out & about though.

And also, Fortus' birthday is in November...

Yes, Richards bday is Nov. 17th, so it would be pretty strange for them to be celebrating it in April. Izzy's bday is April 8th, so it makes a bit more sense for him to get the happy birthday song.

My gut tells me Axl and Izzy have been writing or sharing ideas for an upcoming album, which would most likely be released in 2007 or 2008 when a full blown reunion seems likely. ?In fact, the way Tommy seems to be gearing up for a reunion with the Mats, I wonder if the European tour is it for the current line-up! ?They all make a shitload of cash, and get to play to huge crowds, and then return in the fall to their other projects, and reap the rewards of the CD sales. ?Maybe it's just me, but I would speculate that CC/Live Nation would not book GNR in the U.S. unless it was the original band, or smaller venues. ?My gut tells me, with everyone from the old band making up, that a fall/winter arena tour with the original band, and maybe a 2007 summer stadium tour could be in the plans. ?We'll see!! ?Note, I am purely speculating, and have no information corroborating anything mentioned above, except the firsthand accounts acknowledging the healing process has begun from the 1995 fallout.

Axl is usually spelled Axel or Axle... Axl is Axl because HE didn't know how to spell it...

And not everyone who knows who Axl Rose is, is a Gn'R fan... And people who just like the music don't necessarily know everything about every band member...

Axl does not rehearse with the band on a day to day basis.

The only reason why, as much as a reunion show/tour would be so cool, I don't believe in the reunion rumors is: whats to stop Robin or Tommy or Brain or whoever from saying "i'm not with the band anymore, axl is with the old gunners".  Unless they signed some crazy confidentiality agreement, but why would they sign that?  Unless its just a temp thing and they want to make it a huge surprise.

I'm not going sunday night, so help me god, if anything cool happens at that show but not at the others, I think I will fucking kill myself :)

Just speculating here.... but I think Izzy might of had some "behind the scenes" input on Chinese Democracy... I also think he might have been the one that told Slash it was actually "pretty good" or whatever Slash said... doesn't mean there's a reunion coming OR that Izzy is back though.

Most of all... very cool that they seem to be friends again. Repairing some of these friendships is a real healthy thing for Axl I think.... he seemed VERY lost in a "everyone wants to sabotage me and ruin my life..." trip back in the late 90's and early 00's. :P

Agreed. I think Izzy would be doing the same thing as Paul Tobias - writing material, but not touring with the new band. It's the most plausible scenario I can think off.

if Merck was there it had to be about business as well. if they manage the three most important members of GNR it would in their best interest to get the original members back together. it would be the biggest score for them coz as far as i know Morrissey is their biggest selling act they have at the moment. from sanctuarys point of view this could be a huge deal for them. it will be 1993 all over again. everywhere you turned GNR was in your face. so who knows...maybe just maybe there is a little bit of hope for us. :beer:

I think you've gotta look at it like this. Axl met Izzy, things are cool. Axl met Matt Sorum for the first time in 6 years, things were cool. Now he may or may not run into Duff at the download festival...I'd say if he does, and they spoke, then that only leaves Slash. And at the end of the VH1 behind the music, Slash said he wasn't closed to the idea of a reunion.

I think Izzy cares for Axl a lot, and it must have been killing him to see the guy struggle and flounder with all the weight of GUNS N' ROSES on his shoulders alone... the public ridicule etc...  I really don't think Izzy would want back in the band.... but I could see him being a kind  of "behind the scenes" facilitator though... and maybe even adding in a little Izzy Stradlin' groove (easily replicated live by Fortus) to some of the CD tracks to pull this fucker off....

right but Guns need a lead guitarist, Izzy is no lead guitarist, Robin and Richard can play both lead and rhytm but they're not specialised lead guitarists like Buckethead or Slash, so if Izzy joined GNR, that would be no benefit for the music... and I think no benefit for Chinese Democracy because it's something like Axl's solo album.

but, I still think that Izzy or Slash can join GNR in the future, that would be great. sorry for Matt or Duff but they were just replaced, Brain and Tommy can do at least as good as they did :peace:
