Title: What's with eBay ticket prices?
Post by: savedsol on May 01, 2006, 05:10:07 PM
I'm tracking one auction that's got two hours left for 2 tickets on the 14th. It's only at $61? There's a ton of others with low Buy It Nows too. Guess the band has some serious PR to do.

Its not that at all, its there are 4 shows, why would anyone  pay $300 for a pair when they can get them for face value?

Bids also go up like crazy right at the end......

or, more obvious, scalpers got a lot of tickets and can't sell them now  ;)

Yeah..any auctions like that I assume are from people with little to no feedback. People arn't dumb....their going to only pick from the auctions with someone who a decent amount of feedback thats above the 98% mark as positive. At least thats how I choose what to bid on on ebay...

Absolutely ANYONE who knows anything about buying on Ebay knows that you don't bid until the last 10 seconds.   Last 3 or 4 if you have the nerve.  :)

Doesn't stop a ton of people from doing it though....most of the other open ended auctions w/o Buy It Now on ebay I scanned through had bids days before they ended..as long as the seller was someone respectable.

I've been watching ebay for a while and there are people losing money on tickets.... the odd 12th show goes for just over 200 a pair, but mostly at cost or slightly below.

I think the second two shows really took the demand out of the tickets.

Unforuntely for me I had to bite a scalper priced ticket that I bought out of fear before whole presale thing happened. 200 bucks for one ticket on the 17th... ouch. Oh well that was the risk i took.

Stub hub on the other hand are significantly higher than ebay. I've never used them before but I'm assuming this is because they pretty much take the risk entirely out of buying tickets online whereas ebay, even with the precautions they have, isn't 100% perfect. SO buyers are more willing to pay more for the piece of mind. I'm glad I got thru for the presale so I dont have to worry about who's trustworthy and who's not  :). I've been checking these two sites out of curiosity though.

Not having looked..I'm only assuming these listings have days and days left and/or are from sellers with bad/no feedback.

The new ebay scam is to sell stuff for like 1 cent and charge you $140 shipping and HANDLING. Ebay gets no part of the that for basing their fees, only on final value.   So often you see stuff with Buy It Now for a dime and shipping is crazy.

Can ebay shut those down? Im sure they can...would be hard to track them all though.

just wondering,
are there going to be a lot of scalpers outside of the Hammerstein selling the nights of the shows??
I'm surprised that people are getting tickets below cost considering the shows sold out in just a few seconds.
Maybe that is an indication of just how many scalpers were trying to get tickets at the presale!

I've never been to a concert where scalpers weren't selling tickets out front.

i've been watching e-bay and tix are still selling over face.

mezz have typically been selling for $75-$100 each
floor $90-$150
floor for the friday show are $125-$175

my guess is there will be some real good bargains next week.

I think prices will go up next week as there will be less to choose from. Keep in mind how many there still are our there and that they are constantly being sold on ebay. I think by the end of this week, supplies will be low. If I were in need, I'd snatch them up very soon.

you may be right. there's a few variables that no one can measure.

but i do know that there has been no decrease in supply over the last week. there has consistently been an average of about 40 auctions per show.

it'll be interesting to see what happens next week.

There are TONS of tickets on Ebay and Stubhub. Prices have come way down for 5/15 and 5/17 since the Friday and Sunday shows have been added.

Looks like about 126 results for "guns roses tickets" now and some of those are for Dublin. Prices seem to be escalating for the opening night because they are in the shortest supply. The other shows will go up once these run out or become too expensive.

when you search ebay, type in "guns roses hammerstein". there are about 165 auctions, and this count has been consistent for over a week now.

several people are only listing it as "buy it now", or they have very high reserves. they keep it up there for a few days, and when they don't sell, they relist it at a couple dollars less. my point is, many of those 165 will not really end when the time expires.

It  is all a big gamble with them.  Many of them buy tickets as their job.  7 or 8 out of 10 times the event is sold out and they make money on their tickets.  Some they loose money and just have to eat it.

Example.  In June of 2004 VR was touring and playing Detroit.  The show sold out and I wasn't able to get tickets to go from ticketmaster.  I eneded up watching ebay and bought two tickets with S/H for less than $50.  when I believe the tickets cost like $40 each.  And I got my tickets alright.

plenty of great deals on e-bay if anyone is still looking for tix. tix for the 12th have been selling at $175-$225 per pair for the opening night (down from $300+ 1-2 weeks ago).

all other shows are selling below $200 per pair, with most selling around cost or less.

here's an auction where the seller is just looking to break even, and no one has jumped on it cause they know they can get it for less than face....

Friday I think has the highest demand.  IF that show is amazing, some special surprises (Izzy??), a great show and a timely stage appearance by GNR, then the price of the sun, mon, wed shows could go up significantly.  Wed show could be huge too if the other three are super successful and people start to really want to see this band.

in the past 3 minutes 2 pairs of tix just sold
2 for friday - $310. plus shipping
2 for sunday ( Mezz2 ) - $150.39 plus shipping

it looks like friday has twice the demand as the other shows, for a few obvious reasons:

1. it's the first show (i.e. the official return of gnr).

2. it's friday night.

3. questions will be answered.

i got my tickets on ebay for 120$ each 3 tixx :'(
on other sites there are like sooo expensive, ebay has some low prices but it isn't always reliable People might have another account and bidding on their own making the price go higher and higher each time someone bids. and yes that's not allowed but they do it anyway ^^;;

Why would someone pay 100 dollars for 66 dollar seats? Because they are GNR fans of course, although I am NOT going.
