Title: How many "Spaghetti" originals do you have?
Post by: RichardNixon on April 29, 2006, 10:33:49 AM
"A great song can be found anywhere. Do yourself a favor and go find the originals."

How many originals do you have? I have most, but just need the Skyliners, and "Black Leather."

I have heard all of them. And for the record, I like Guns' versions better. The originals sound way too outdated. Not just musically, but soundwise too. But then again, most were recorded in the 70s.

I'm still looking for "Black Leather." It's credited as a Sex Pistols song, but I think it might have been Steve Jones solo. I'd love to make a CDR of all the originals once they are collected.

I too prefer Guns' versions.

NONE

But I have heard all the originals except "Look At Your Game Girl" and "Down On The Farm" : ok:

most of the originals are just as crappy as the GnR versions :-\

Thats just your taste in music.  I f'n love most of the songs, but that's just my taste.  I think most of the songs rule.  Weren't they all recorded in 90 or 91 except for "since I don't have you"?

I thought they were recorded w/UYI.

Yeah I know and that's cool, I was (and still am) very disappointed in TSI....but it's cool that some people like them....I beleive all the songs were recorded during the UYI tour (except maybe Look At Your Game Girl)...and Izzy's parts were redone by Gilby after Izzy quit.

I think if you listen to their rolling stones cover in 94 Axl's voiice was "different" than before the tour.  And it seems the same as on "Since I don't have you" but not the rest of TSI.  And i'm not talking about the style, just the pure voice.

I would still rather have TSI than No TSI though.  Its not on my playlist as much as their origional cds, but once in a while its fun to spin.

I downloaded all of the original songs, including "Look At Your Game, Girl".? You can probably find them all on LimeWire.

Someone should just upload all of these.  I have most of them except they're on vinyl and that'd be far too time consuming.  Then everyone would have everything.

You've got to be joking....I haven't heard all of the originals but I can tell you GNR doesn't hold a candle to the original "Human Being" by the New York Dolls. I mean, the Dolls are freakin' legends to begin with, David Johansen is a God. "Human Being" is so raw, no one should try to cover a Dolls song ever. Same is to be said about "Ain't it Fun"....Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys (RIP) was a great punk vocalist. Even the Johnny Thunders cover...it's OK, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original.

I'm not one of those GNR fans who bash The Spaghetti Incident, but just because Guns and Roses were influenced by these bands, doesn't mean they should sing their songs.

Speaking of the New York Dolls, and anyone who loves and respects them, they've got new music on Roadrunner's official website. First new album coming out in over 30 years (even though all but 2 of the original Dolls have died)

Hmmm....that's interesting....where do I know another band from that keeps the original bands name and only has 2 of the original members in it? Hmmmmmm  :smoking:

If you are lucky enough to find a tophat no2 boxset it has a cd called the tortilian incident (i think) this has the originals expect to pay ?150 to ?200 ($300 to $400) for it though two people i know of have it on this board pandora and christos check pandoras profile for the website for more details. Personaly i havnt heard them though.

I totally agree with TopGunner. The originals are not outdated. There's so much more depth and quality to them. If anything, the GNR versions are WAAYYY too polished.

If anything, Fear's "I Don't Care About You", NOTHING beats the original. Lee Ving could and can still whup Axl's ass. Want to get in touch with your inner-bully? Run right out and get Fear's "The Album". Out and out classic. And this was done in the EIGHTIES.

And "Raw Power"??? HELLO??!?!? ANY of the three Stooges albums are heads and shoulders on ten people over Appetite and UYI 1 and 2. No way can the Guns version score over the original Iggy/Stooges. End of story. (Just imagine if Guns did "T.V. Eye", that would been something)

And ditto TopGunner again for the Dolls and the Dead Boys. David Jo is a God. And there will never be another Stiv (First Lords album rules).

Jeez, some of you kids today-when are you gonna learn.....

I have Big Dumb Sex by Soundgarden. I had that cd years before TSI came out though, so I didn't really "seek out an origional".

Also, I have the TSI "promo copy"
It's not really a big deal except I got it about 2 weeks before it was for sale, and the only difference is the word Promotional stamped on the cd.

Just checked the site, duh haha.

# "The Spaghetti Incident?" were recorded during the Use Your Illusion sessions and during the Use Your Illusion World Tour.
# The album started out as a Punk EP.
# Izzy's parts were redone by Gilby Clarke.

"Black Leather" is actually a Sex Pistols song with Jones on vocals. I don?t think it appears on any of their official albums. I could be mistaken, but I?m under the impression that it was only issued as a posthumous single. I have found it on LimeWire in the past though, and I?m sure it wouldn't be hard for you to do the same. It?s one of the better ?original versions?.

I agree. I love that album. It reminds me of my high school days. And I'm only 22. Go figure.

Note how the tracklisting of the Tortellini Accident has tracks listed on it that are not on TSI.  Do you think that GNR recorded versions of these other songs, but ended up having to narrow it down ot the tracks on TSI?  I would love to hear those other tracks if they did record them!

The only TSI? outtakes that I've ever heard of (and probably the three rarest GN'R tunes, EVER since they've never surfaced in any form) are Beer And A Cigarette, Down On The Streets and Waiting For My Ruca. Beer And A Cigarette is a Hanoi Rocks song. I forget who did the others, but I know that one of them is Sublime cover.

-Jeff

EDIT TO ADD: I have a CD that a friend burned for me with all of the originals on it too, but its beat to death and half of the tracks won't play anymore.

Well i have all of them and i mean original albums/singles too, not just shitty downloads
Few facts...Black Leather was released on Sex Pistols? "The great rock?n?roll swindle"-pack, including six 7"-singles (and that was vinyl recordings). Rare, but good luck ;) And it?s NOT even Sex Pistols-song!!! Pistols broke before that song. It?s Steve Jones-song released with Sex Pistols singles. If you wanna think it?s Pistols then do so...but it is not (ask Rotten or Matlock if you want, Sid is harder to find? :P )

Ain?t it fun is NOT Dead Boys-original!!!! It was first done by Rocket from the tombs BEFORE they changed line-up and name to Dead Boys. And no, Stiv was not the singer of RFTT (and did not write music or lyrics to Ain?t it fun. (ironic?!?!)
Stiv was great performer and recorded Ain?t it fun to Dead Boys second album and it?s great version too. He was also good friend and lived together with Mike Monroe of Hanoi Rocks, so that?s why Mike suggested Axl that they should record a tribute to Stiv.  More about RFTT----> http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gbdkyl23xppb  (hope the link works...) :-[

Down on the street is of course Stooges song.
Nobody should cover Stooges, Dolls or GN`R...ever!!! can?t top the originals so why even try.

GNR's Hair Of The Dog is so much better than Nazareth's.

I'd love to hear their version of Blitzkrieg Bop  : ok:

I think the true test for all of us is, how many of us knew the originals before we heard the Guns versions. I'm almost 34, so I had a head start over some a youse guys. Thus, I personally waited a long time before buying TSI. Pure novelty. Good. But novelty nonetheless.

I'm 22, and I never heard any of the originals before I heard the Guns music. I heard the CD and thought it's not bad, I wonder why everyone trashes it. That was like 3 or 4 years ago.

Somewhere between those years I got REALLY REALLY heavy into punk music. I mean, punk, not New FOund Glory, or Good Charolette...those guys aren't punk. I mean Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Ramones, Dead Boys. And after listening to songs like "Human Being," "Can't put your arms around a memory," and "Ain't it Fun" and then relistening to the GNR versions I realized why The Spaghetti Incident was disliked. That's not to say I now think it's an awful CD, but you just can't touch the original stuff.
