Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Hey all,

While listening to Sirius at work earlier I heard mention of the NYC shows.  The fact that they sold out in about 12 seconds each (DJ's words, not my own), and, most interestingly.

"The shows in New York are where the official release info for Chinese Democracy will be announced"  (quoted as best as I can remember)

Just thought it was another interesting tidbit and thought I'd share.

Everyone has to just have patience ... he probs wont say anything until the europe concert is done with but dont get me wrong an announcment would blow my socks off.... Uncle axl will say it when hes ready

I'm going to be the wet blanket and say there's a good chance they picked this rumor up off the forums... there was already a thread on this very board speculating that an announcement would be made at the warm-up shows.

Quite possible.  I did send an email to the DJ on the air at the time "Christopher the Minister" to see if he had any additional info to share - but up to now, there's not been a response.  If there is, I'll let you know.

(Gotta give Sirius DJs credit for one thing - they did scoop the Hammerstein shows about 36 hours before they were officially announced)

I was actually thinking about this yesterday, and I thought that it would make sense that the release date would be announced at these shows. If I had to guess I would say that Axl will do a long rant about the process of recording the album, about the delays etc. and thank the fans (especially since a lot of the people at the concert will be message board users who are the most hardcore gnr fans) for sticking with him all this time. And then at the end of his rant he will announce the release date and show the cover art on a big screen. An official press release will probably be made at the same time that the concert is going on.

That's bull crap, I rented a podium to bring into Mustang Harry's and Axl Rose is going to hold a press conference there. :rofl:

I will shit myself if after all the years of waiting that I am at the actual concert that Axl himself announces the long awaited release date.  This really does seem to make great sense.  What better place to announce it than the capital of the world, before embarking on a World Tour!!!

Don't worry about that.  Somehow or another, we'll be liveblogging from the concert(s) - stay tuned for details on that, as I'm still sorting them all out.

Just that fact that I'll be there on the 12th is good enough.  If any big news comes out  at that time, so much the better.  Thanks for sharing...here's hoping!

Hmm if I can offer some advice to a few of you:

Don't "live blog" from the show or anything else. Sit back and enjoy it. Getting news on the net isn't so important that all the lil' netmonkeys can't wait a few extra hours. I mean really, how many more GNR shows are you going to get to go to? Even if there's a full blown tour in the fall... Axl's what, 44?

For those of ya with tickets, enjoy the shows. Any announcement is just a bonus.

You wont need to wait untill anyone arrives back home. There will be LIVE updates posted during the show. If there is an announcement made at the show everyone will know before the show is even over.

Lets not forget the 2002 VMA's when we all saw GNR back and thought "this is it, we're gonna get something this year." And it's been that way ever since.

I hate to be the negative nancy here (yeah, that's right, I said negative nancy ;D) but even if Axl were to say at the NYC shows that Chinese Democracy is coming out in November let's say, would you believe him? Personally, when November came, that's when I'd take it as face.

I love GNR more than any band in the world, but it's like the boy who cried wolf sometimes. Regardless of what some DJ or even what Axl says, when I see Chinese Democracy is when I believe it

I agree with what you said. And for the record there is a difference between pointing out a real scenario and just plain saying things like "NOPE. It's NOT happening then". You weren't beinng negative as far as I can tell.

Anyways, I'm still hoping that the CD is ready to go and underwraps. I'm hoping for them to drop it the Tuesday during the shows. That'd be the greatest gift they could give the diehards.

Just as information:

Sirius has been PUSHING GnR of late.  I mean, they've always been a staple of the service, but lately they've been in pretty heavy rotation. And not just on Buzzsaw and Hair Nation, either.

Combine that with the fact they did scoop the Hammerstein shows early, and that Dizzy showed up the other night on one of their stations, and I start to wonder.

If there WERE a US tour coming later this year....Sirius would be a no-brainer as a "sponser", especially if CD was out and selling well.

Just speculating, of course....

well, it makes sense that Axl would have to say something. hopefully he gives us something concrete, like an EXACT date!

OK, I gotta' tell you - this sounds very promising.  The place where I work (some of you know where - Jarmo included) tried to get Axl to do a certain show, and the response was "Axl is doing not doing press right now.  He's focusing on the NY shows." 

I have no doubt that he's really taking this seriously, and we all have good reason to be excited!

Friday, at the same time, 4 different GnR songs on 4 different stations, all starting within 10 seconds of each other.

HEAVY rotation....to be sure.

It would be funny if Axl did announce the release date at one of the New York shows.

Axls just about to walk off stage after finishing the gig, then run up to a mic "Forgot to mention the new album will be released xx.xx.xxxx if you want to go out and buy it"

Size of the audiance is too small for the biggest rock news in the history.
Minimum MTV and CNN.

I think the idea would be for MTV, CNN and the rest of the world to pick it up on their own and let all of us diehards be the first to know.

Yeah but it would be smart if they started playing alot of GNR, then maybe annoucning they ll broadcast one of theyre concerts live, which will increase theyre customer base.

I love Guns as much as anyone, but the biggest rock news in history? I don't think so.

Anyway, I hope it's true and can't wait to get a release on this damn album.

Of course those gigs will have some journalists there to make a review. They will mention it and it would spread like wildfire.

Also, if he indeed give us the good news, he'll sure make an official statement the day after, confirming everything. The thing is: Axl would like to give the die-hard fans the big news first.

My intial theory (which honestly, had no real merit - it was pure speculation on my part) was that they'd release a single on May 16th.. (Between the two shows).  Of course that kind of got blown to hell when the shows on the 12th / 14th were announced.  I do like that more and more independent sources are indicating a release is iminent.  (RIR, Sirius, various others)  That can only be construed as positive, in my opinion.

OK, to those questioning that he'd release the news to the relatively small group at the Hammerstein shows:

I've still YET to see any Mezz1 tickets, amongst the board members, for the show on the 15th.  Anyone else?  I've seen exactly ONE ticket on stub hub...at 3 times the price of other tickets.

Now, it could be a VIP section, or for a video shoot, or for a number of other things.

But the other day, when discussing this thread, another idea occurred to me.  Purely speculation, of course.

What if it's for a "radio simulcast" of the show?  Maybe on Sirius?  And maybe part of that simulcast would be Axl announcing the release date?

It'd get the story out to a wider audience, get talked about in the media, and would be great publicity for Sirius.

Again, all just complete speculation with absolutely no foundation.

Pilferk's right - I haven't seen really any Mezz1 tix for the 15th, either.  It does at least help to add to the speculative fires, if nothing else.

mikegiuliana just said over in the tour thread he thinks he has Mezz1 tickets for the 15th.

He's not 100% sure, and doesn't have the tix in his hands, so he's going to check and get back.

So that may blow the theory to hell.

There do seem to be some mezz1 tickets floating around, but not anywhere close to mezz2 and floor. They may have sold some for mezz1, but the middle section may not be open to the general public, and you'll have to sit on the side or something.

I am so loving reading all the conspiracy theories - not sure if I can wait 2 more weeks to see what happens!  This is better than Christmas morning...   :hihi:  The most interesting rumor I have seen so far was that they would be performing on SNL on 5/13.

Good point...it'd be an excellent way for Axl to show the public who don't keep up with the new GNR that the 2002 VMA performance wasn't a true representation of what the band has to offer......and he should do it by performing "Better"  : ok:

You aint' kidding! I have AT LEAST one conversation a day where someone tells me that "Axl sounded like shit on that one show when he tried to make a comeback". I'd love to shut those people the fuck up! :yes:

Just got out of my car.  Was listening to my Sirius radio.  On the radio, there is a little display that shows the artist and name of the song.  I was listening to channel 19 (Sirius Buzzsaw) when SCOM came on.  Here was what was on the display as the song played:

As far as SNL goes, When does their season end? I know the chill peppers are soon. I though I heard Paul Simon was the season ending act. I think the RHCP are next week. So if there is an unannounced act in between, maybe it's a possibility. Does anyone know any of those details????

I would be one happy monkey if they did a live broadcast.  And too all you cheapies who don't have Sirius, I WILL have it recorded.

Not sure when the season ends, but Chili Peppers are on 5/6 - the SNL official website doesn't show 5/13 yet.

Oh yeah, I'm sure recordings will spread like WILDFIRE of these shows whether it's broadcast or not. I gotta assume all of the hardcore fans with good recording equipment will be there in full force!
