Title: RUMOR/QUESTION - Please help me determine if there's anything to this.
Post by: darknemus on April 21, 2006, 12:48:55 PM
Hey all,

A co-worker just told me he heard an ad on local radio (Big 105.9 FM - Miami / Fort Lauderdale) that GNR was coming to the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino.  He didn't catch the date nor did he hear many details - but he did say they were playing GNR songs during the ad.  He swears he heard this - but obviously I see no signs of it existing like, anywhere.

Does anyone have any insight, at all?

Thanks,

-darknemus

I've fired off a phone call / voicemail to a friend who works in radio - but Big is a clear channel owned station and my friend doesn't work for CC.  I really doubt there's much validity to this story, but I suppose its worth looking into.  FYI - My co-worker isn't even really a casual fan.. he just heard the radio ad and thought of me, apparently.

Casino shows are also WAY overpriced.  I was at a casino once and their were a lot of people standing outside the showroom so I walked over to the box office and asked what was going on.  The lady said it was a Travis Tritt concert.  Out of curiosity I asked how much the tickets were, she responded $90!  $90 for the cheapest ticket to see fucking Travis Tritt on a weeknight.

I haven't heard anything about this.

If the rumor picks up I'll phone into Buckethead's hand puppet and ask for confirmation Monday.

They have a great small rock club, 'bout 1,000 tops ga floor and the bigger hard rock live, like 5,000 ish.

I work for one of the big newspapers in south florida...I'll see what i can find out.

I'm checking with an
Ex-Big 106 DJ
I'll ask who to call.

Traffic Department
Could, I'm sure, give us answers...
But that can be tough.

I have some friends there
So I'll check West Palm cluster
Of CC stations.

Like I said - story was reported to me 3rd party from a co-worker.  I have no idea of its validity or if he was just hearing things.  I just checked with him again about 10 minutes ago, though, and he insisted that was what he heard.  Probably nothing to this, though.

Darknemus, i see you're in SoFla too. If it's true, they'll be saying it again on 105, or 93 for that matter. I'll be listening this weekend...

Yah know what?....this is gonna sound odd, but this past Sunday I was listening to Winnipeg Radio (Power 97) at a buddies place and around 11:30am est they played November Rain. After the song was done i swear i heard the DJ say that GnR was Gonna play in Winnipeg on Apr. 26, 2006. I was like what !!?? cuz it was loud there and everyone was talking and i was only paying half attention. So anyway i emailed the Program director when i got home.....he still hasn't got back to me so i figured it was bullshit. I wasn't gonna post it but this info from darknemus kinda sounds very similar to what I experienced.

can you find out about this as well darknemus?

*EDIT* - Like i said this is prolly not anywhere near the truth...i figure i must've heard wrong, just thought it was similar to dark's story so i posted it :peace:

I'm pretty sure it is just a tribute band.

Me second chineseblues. They'd play at classy venues.

Still  I'd say in theory there should be 4 more surprise nights like the hamstain ones sometime somewhere.
cos 8-4=4  :P

Not if its the Hard Rock Live. The venue is too big for a tribute band. This would be cool if it was true. I would only say its possible because I just spent alot of money to fly from Ft Lauderdale to NYC for 4 shows. Just my luck.

This is a great venue with great acoustics, would be nice if it was true.

I've actually seen this rumor a lot on a few of the "industry" boards today. With a probable gig(s) in London, I don't see any more US shows until the fall. Never know...

Specifically in regards to a South Florida show?  Or just about more shows, in general?

I wouldn't say that casinos are for bands that can't sell out shows. Surprisingly VR played at the Oneida casino in Green Bay here in Wisconsin. Their only WI show. It would have been cool to see them in a smaller venue but our baby was due that week. Baby trumps VR. Considering the size of the NY shows I guess anything's possible. No baby due in May. NYC here I come. ;D
