Title: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Sterlingdog on April 16, 2006, 06:02:18 AM I'm pregnant, days past my due date, and starting to think I will be on the cover of Weekly World News for giving birth to the World's largest baby in the next couple weeks. Seriously, she could easily be over 10 pounds before she's born and I won't get an epidural, so I'm getting a little concerned here.
Everyone (including total strangers) has advice to me for how to go into labor. I've had people bringing me special pizza, chinese food, pineapple, tea, trying to get me to drink castor oil (not happening) etc. I'm a pretty cynical person so I don't believe in most old wives tales. But I thought it would be fun to hear what worked for you parents when you were trying to get your little one to come out? Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Lisa on April 16, 2006, 09:35:40 AM awwww Sterling, you poor woman....it is so tough to go around feeling like you could actually burst! It seems that anytime I had a serious function planned ( and looked forward to with great anticipation) I went into labour...For my first son, my water broke on Friday the 13th,the day when I had emplyees come from all over North America for an awards/appreciation dinner....and my second son I had to organize a huge Halloween costume party for a very popular pub...my water broke in the middle of giving out the award for best costume....so yeah, maybe make plans for something you really love to do ....anything that can go wrong, usually will go wrong hehehehe....I wish you luck hon! both my boys were 8.5 lbs plus and I thought that was too big ;D...

At least that sounds like fun. More fun than eating stuff to make myself sick, which seems to be most people's idea. Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Cornell on April 16, 2006, 10:55:43 AM My idea is to have sex. ;D Trust me, it works! ;)

But I supposed I could try again. my freind was 10 days overdue when she was expecing her son Who's now 5 when she was 17,so i can relate because I saw how she suffered,And the she was in labor for 24 hours oUch!! Fortunately my first labor was only 12 hours and second labors are usually shorter. So i'm going with the power of positive thinking and have decided this one will be 4 hours tops. I just have to get started, which is the problem at the moment. Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Jim on April 16, 2006, 04:43:41 PM I've heard that if you just eat and eat and eat and eat and eat, consequently the baby eats and eats and eats and eats and eats and then he gets sick and pops out. Sorry to ruin the suprise, but your little baby is a boy.
Or sex. I think that sex induces labor. I mean, it doesn't. But I think that it 'does'. Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: the dirt on April 16, 2006, 05:10:53 PM I've heard that if you just eat and eat and eat and eat and eat, consequently the baby eats and eats and eats and eats and eats and then he gets sick and pops out. Sorry to ruin the suprise, Is all this eating what you did to induce the birth of your baby? Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Sterlingdog on April 16, 2006, 05:36:58 PM I've heard that if you just eat and eat and eat and eat and eat, consequently the baby eats and eats and eats and eats and eats and then he gets sick and pops out. Sorry to ruin the suprise, but your little baby is a boy. Its funny, this is my second pregnancy and I've noticed 2 things. One, people love to try to scare me by saying "maybe its really a boy, then what are you going to do?" I know this isn't what you are doing Jim, you are just being funny. But many people do. Its kind of mean, I think. But I know for sure, without a doubt, that this baby is a girl. The other thing is that when people ask me "Is this your first?" and I say, "no, my second", they completely lose interest in speaking to me. Its like they were all geared up to try to give me advice, or tell me how horrible labor will be, or whatever, and I shot them down. I know this isn't what you are doing Jim, you are just being funny.? But many people do.? Its kind of mean, I think.? But I know for sure, without a doubt, that this? baby is a girl. ? Why would you be so frightened by this anyway, though? Do you really want a girl or something? Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Sterlingdog on April 16, 2006, 05:48:31 PM Why would you be so frightened by this anyway, though? Do you really want a girl or something? Only because that's what I've planned for - names, clothes, etc. But I know its a girl, she's got 2X chromosomes. Can't get more sure than that. Even when I tell people that, sometimes they still try to say "You never know, though." Of course, those would be the less intelligent people who probably don't know what chromosomes are. Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: the dirt on April 16, 2006, 05:51:51 PM Ah, the planning. I see.
Well, if by some freak of nature you have a boy, he's just gonna have to get used to wearing tiny girl's clothes for the time being. :) Title: Re: Parents- pregnancy topic Post by: Sterlingdog on April 16, 2006, 05:55:06 PM Ah, the planning. I see. Well, if by some freak of nature you have a boy, he's just gonna have to get used to wearing tiny girl's clothes for the time being. :) Well it would be a freak of nature, since a boy without a Y chromosome would have serious gender issues. He might enjoy wearing tiny little girl clothes throughout his life. I really do hope that it is a girl, but I am pretty certain that it's a baby blue. Ahh just tell 'em that it is your first time. Then when they give you advice, pick holes in it and tell them how they're wrong and then say that, actually, it's your second baby boy. Is all this eating what you did to induce the birth of your baby? As a matter of fact, no it wasn't clever dick. We just made a film about it with Arnold Schwarzenegger. That worked pretty well. Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Sterlingdog on April 26, 2006, 11:46:13 PM UPDATE: I was induced at the end of last week. Baby was well over 9 pounds and decided to come out with her hand on her face. (OUCH!!!) But she's healthy and beautiful. Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: journey on April 26, 2006, 11:48:41 PM Congratulations!

Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Jim on April 27, 2006, 03:25:39 AM Did you eat and eat and eat and eat to get him to pop out in the end then?
But seriously, Congratulations! Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: redrose on April 27, 2006, 05:29:29 AM Congrats with your girl.
Just a question can anybody help me with a name for a girl ( I know mine is a girl). It has to be a beautiful name with a meaning to it. Mine will come in the first week in september (I hope). She will first kick me hard in my mummy when she will hear GNR for the first time when they are going to perform in Nijmegen, lol. Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Jessica on April 27, 2006, 08:51:32 AM I'm pregnant, days past my due date, and starting to think I will be on the cover of Weekly World News for giving birth to the World's largest baby in the next couple weeks. But I thought it would be fun to hear what worked for you parents when you were trying to get your little one to come out? Oh hun, first of all, CONGRATS !!!!! Have you had an XRAy of your hip bones ? I had and they discovered that i was internally very limited, gabriel had 1 cm to go through and this was a week before birth. By the time his birth was supposed to happen, i was cut open, because his head was too large. I was expecting a natural delivery WITHOUT epidural up until the very last minute. But the contractions never started, gabriel was situated right under my tits, he wouldn't come down, so the doctor asked me to come on saturday the 3rd of december to shoot me with a gel that starts the contractions ? All i know was that an hour after, he came in my room, said " right, it doesn't work, we're going into op room". And the guy shot me the epidural 3 times, well, tried, because i was supposed to make my back as round as possible so he could shoot ? but try to imagine having a baby under your tits and rounding a abck at the same time ? IM PO SSI BLE ! SO, there i am, in frigging pain and all of the sudden, i can't feel a thing anywhere. Not just lower body, but EVERYWHERE. I panicked. I cried, asked them to take me out and i iddn't want to do it ? I was very poorly. They shot me with gaz. I woke up with something green in front of me, a huge cover. I could hear the docs speak about xmas and presents and godknowswhat. Then, blackout and all of a sudden, i am shook, in shock, presented to gabriel who seems to feel as shitty as i do, and he is taken away ( breathing an 80% of full capacities , taken to incubator for 2 hours) .. I was then sown up for 3 hours. >But i don't remember, i just remember them bringing gabriel on me as i got in my bedroom. I was crying. I breastfeed him for the second time ( i don't remember the first ???) and although i was in PAIN, i was beautiful. My doctor said that a woman who is past 8 months and 2 weeks ( your case) should get herself busy, hoover a lot, walk a lot, be very active and that's the BEST thing to tell the baby " hey, about time you decended !!!'" A baby girl....awww! I have a baby girl...who is going to be 7 in two weeks :'( They grow up so quick- I know EVERYONE says that, but its sooooo true! Enjoy every moment with her! Do you mind sharing the beauty's name? My first daughter just turned 6, so I know what you mean. My newborn is named Emily. Jessica - my labor was rough, but nothing like yours. My first daughter was big also (over 8 pounds) so there was little concern about getting the second baby out. I was induced with Pitocin (IV medication) and it took all day to get enough into me to do anything. But once things got moving it was over in about an hour. Very very painful and scary at the end. When we all realized her hand was coming out too, I was rushed by nurses, and it seemed everyone was yelling and pushing on my legs. But really not much damage and I feel great now. Thanks everyone for your kind words! Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Jessica on April 27, 2006, 12:18:16 PM Congratulations, Sterling! A baby girl....awww! Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: MCT on April 29, 2006, 11:11:14 AM To a Little Invisible Being Who is Expected Soon to Become Visible
Germ of new life, whose powers expanding slow For many a moon their full perfection wait,-- Haste, precious pledge of happy love, to go Auspicious borne through life's mysterious gate. What powers lie folded in thy curious frame,-- Senses from objects locked, and mind from thought! How little canst thou guess thy lofty claim To grasp at all the worlds the Almighty wrought! And see, the genial season's warmth to share, Fresh younglings shoot, and opening roses glow! Swarms of new life exulting fill the air,-- Haste, infant bud of being, haste to blow! For thee the nurse prepares her lulling songs, The eager matrons count the lingering day; But far the most thy anxious parent longs On thy soft cheek a mother's kiss to lay. She only asks to lay her burden down, That her glad arms that burden may resume; And nature's sharpest pangs her wishes crown, That free thee living from thy living tomb. She longs to fold to her maternal breast Part of herself, yet to herself unknown; To see and to salute the stranger guest, Fed with her life through many a tedious moon. Come, reap thy rich inheritance of love! Bask in the fondness of a Mother's eye! Nor wit nor eloquence her heart shall move Like the first accents of thy feeble cry. Haste, little captive, burst thy prison doors! Launch on the living world, and spring to light! Nature for thee displays her various stores, Opens her thousand inlets of delight. If charmed verse or muttered prayers had power, With favouring spells to speed thee on thy way, Anxious I'd bid my beads each passing hour, Till thy wished smile thy mother's pangs o'erpay. --Anna Barbauld-- Past, Present, Future Tell me, tell me, smiling child, What the past is like to thee ? 'An Autumn evening soft and mild With a wind that sighs mournfully.? Tell me, what is the present hour ? 'A green and flowery spray Where a young bird sits gathering its power To mount and fly away.? And what is the future, happy one ? 'A sea beneath a cloudless sun ; A mighty, glorious, dazzling sea Stretching into infinity.? --Emily Bronte-- Title: Re: pregnancy topic - update Post by: Neemo on April 29, 2006, 11:14:15 AM Congrats Sterling!!!! :D &
