THE ORIGINAL GUNS N ROSES, WITH THE CULT AS SUPPORT?:

While Metal Sludge continue their crusade to get to the bottom of dealings within Velvet Revolver...a little extra info has come my way this week.

If you were to believe the rumor mill, plans for a Guns N Roses re-union have firmed, with the upcoming tour dates expected to feature the original line-up (with drummer Matt Sorum from the Use Your Illusion line-up). Apparently the guys have already started rehearsals and plans for extending the current tour dates are being examined.

Also coming to light this week - The Cult are apparently being looked at as a possible support band for the Guns N Roses tour.

Additionally - from another source just today - a Velvet Revolver split could be announced very shortly...

Our Sludge source in the great state of Washington has just sent us the following information about our recent Duff story.
The only new info I have regarding Duff is that this trip to the martial arts retreat had nothing to do with alcohol. It was strictly drugs this time. I have no idea what drugs. I do know from my source that they are definitely not happy that things leaked and there is a serious clamp down going on now.

I'll  wait till Rock In Rio, but this particular story just sounds fake over others. But we're all going to have to wait till RIR to find out.

And as for Metal Sludge on Duff, I'd laugh my ass off if he sued them, they're talking complete shit and shouldn't be making up all this hit just to get their site reconized.

First of all, I don't believe the whole reunion rumor and I have no idea if Duff is using drugs.  But is it even logical that both things could be true?  Does anyone really think Axl would reunite with Duff if he's using drugs?  I think if you want to believe these rumors, you have to pick one or the other.  Personally I think the Duff on drugs rumor is more likely true, but I don't really even believe that. 

Man! Where do they get this stuff from. It's so far-fetched, over-the-top, totally lacking in any reality, that it's hard to even read this crap.

If he was really trying to get a reunion going, Axl would make sure everyone is clean by the time of the tour.  Sending someone to rehab might be a last minute effort to make sure of that

This site has been right with with other rumours in the past, regarding other bands at least.

I did NOT make the rumor up! My friend sent that stuff to me in an IM and he included that link at the bottom after he copied and pasted everything. He wouldn't exactly make shit up either. He sent me the stuff about GN'R and VR, and there was a blurb about Alice In Chains in there too that has nothing to do with anything. The AIC one is there, so I'm guessing the GN'R/VR stuff was yanked.

And the Duff story is on the main page at Metal Sludge.

That would explain it..my friend is a big reader of melodicrock.com too - he just didn't give me a link to that site.

Jarmo, darknemus, and numerous others can attest that I have never made shit up, I just post what I hear/read elsewhere.

Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff would hold out for a hell of a lot more cash to reform than what GNR have been paid for these festival performances. It's a no-brainer. It might happen one day but not until Chinese Democracy is out of the way.

if gnr reunited they could do a tour with an opening act and that would be simple.. The word would be out (real words) that gnr is reuniting or has reunited and they are doing a major tour and the tickets would sell.. Couple of interviews, maybe show up at a vmas type show or the vmas and the world would know..

Thanks Professor.  I generally agree that the reunion idea makes little sense at this point in time -- I would think that Axl would at least want to float the balloon of the new band and the new CD to see if it is successful.  If it is, then he will feel vindicated and the reunion may not happen at all.  If CD is a failure, then I can see a reunion happening in short order.

In any event, the one point that you make is not professorial at all:  if a reunion were indeed in the works, any contractual issues with VR or the new members could be resolved, particularly in light of the ungodly amounts of money at stake in a potential reunion.  Remember, under these circumstances, breach of contract is simply compensated by money, and I guarantee you that the "new" GnR members don't have a gigantic financial, much less equity, stake in the new GnR.  The thornier issue would be Weiland and Clive Davis (if VR had a multi-album deal), but, again, those can be resolved.

Points taken.........  But for those of you that really think when this new tour kicks off in a month or so, the old line-up will suprise everyone, is naive to what's reality and fiction.


However, give the current lineup a chance to run its course,  make a couple of discs, go on a few tours, and fade into the night.  Then, and only then, will you see the old lineup MAYBE do a 3 month tour or so.  Something like the Eagles did back in the day.

I've said this before, but I can't see Axl replacing one of his new guys with Duff.  I think he would see it as disloyal to the new band and pretty much everyone who knows him says that he is a very loyal person.  The only thing I think could happen would be for Slash to join, because he'd essentially be filling an open space.  That said, I don't believe it will happen.

So get ready for 2/5 of the original Gn'R line up. If Duff does join or is asked to return to Gn'R....then in my eyes, it would be a Gn'R reunion.

You don't know that.  Slash could have been working on his parts since he visited Axl last fall.  We might see the big picture but we don't have the small, yet important, details.

If it isn't Bucket, I would prefer Slash; but in all honesty, Robin Finck isn't going to be Slash's back up.

slash won't be with guns on stage this summer. there are lawsuits still on, there is cd in the middle and the record company wants to get their money back, there are a lot of stuff in the middle. it's not that simple

They haven't done anything since 2002 since Richard, Tommy and Dizzy have all 3 stated that the album has been done since 2002.......so take off 4 years of all those years.....

Let's face it: the majority of new songs (from CD), like TWAT, The Blues, Madagascar, I.R.S., are typicall USI songs, where Slash showed, what he's capable of. IMO, Slash would probably bring out more out of these songs with his solo's instead of Bucketheads. Just listen to Estranged or November rain and you'll get the idea...

As for reunion: like someone said -  we'll have to wait till RIR. I doubt that Slash would play but it seems possible. For Duff I have no idea, but Izzy? Come on people, be real...

And there is one more question: what does the word reunion mean to majority of people? Slash and Axl... They don't give a fuck who plays the rythm guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. Reuninon of old G'n'R would mean: Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven... Now that would never happen.

Slash would destroy Buckethead on the new songs. He would make TWAT a classic with his Gibson. Axl/Slash is the real deal. Duff on? Bass, Brain on drums (or Matt, but I prefer Brain), Keep Fortus on rythm and some lead parts because he is awesome, Dizzy on piano/keyboard and then they will be ready to rule the world again.

I have to agree that slash would do something very memorable on TWAT, ala NR or Estranged.  The new guys solos etc are very forgettable in my opinion, nothing special.

i can't see Slash coming back. If he did though, what would Robin do? Slash could play the old songs and Robin play the new. Slash could be at the live shows and be paid to play  ;D and have nothing to do with CD. Slash is one thing but Duff, well GnR don't need Duff, they have Tommy, and Tommy really see's himself as in the picture with the new GnR. It would be interestingto hear Slash perform all the parts Buckethead played during the ill fated 2002 tour. One thing is for sure, Slash's guitar solo's are more in keeping with GnR than the Buckethead solo's which were nothing more than a Buckethead slot to promote his own material, as much as i like the theme from Star Wars, it's don't fit with GnR  ;) - it's abut 6 weeks now isn't until GnR play live, so all the anwsers will appear very soon  : ok:

Sorum did a good drum solo during the UYI tour. Brain is more with it though. Steven Adler while not being perfect still had something going for him that added much to the GnR sound.

if slash is going to join GNR that would be the best thing for us fans. AXL N SLASH together they shine. on their own im not so sure, AXL is taking so long to make an record, SLASH did make a few records but very forgetable albums.
i'd love to see SLASH back but i seriously doubt it, not after AXLs press release there is still bad blood between them. he basically called SLASH a back stabber for the past 20 years. as far as Metal Sludge rumour goes well... their name says it all.

There is no way Slash is rejoining this band unless he re-recorded every guitar part on the album and put his stamp on it. He has too much artistic integrity to go out and cover Buckethead's work and pass it off as his own. It just does not seem like it would be his style. I could never see him subjecting himself to what Robin, Bucket, Tommy and Richard did by going out and covering all those songs knowing he had nothing to do with any of them. Not to mention the fact there is absolutely no way he would play on the same stage in which Robin Finck was sharing lead guitar duties in any capacity after what he did to his guitar solos last tour. I am sure he heard some bootlegs at some point, and had to be horrified.

Axl's held the album off this long, another year wouldnt kill him.

If there is even an album,I doubt all of this,it was on Sludge and all they do is spread rumors,so I wouldn't take any of this seriously.  :peace:

its interesting to think that after axl roses latest official statement concerning slash, duff, etc. weiland was the only one who responded to the statement. slash never released anything about it nor did anybody els with the exception of duff i geuss but that wasn't? a statement, more like an answer to a question in an interview. but never the less slash never denied aything axl said in his statement. now when matt randomly see's axl he greets himself and acts all buddy buddy with him. if the stuff axl said in his statement was false i think matt would have held a grudge and ignored him.

Maybe that's one of the things they discussed, Matt did say they cleared some things up.

But as for this rumour, smells like bullshit to me. And I don't trust Metal Sludge either.

Alright, so we know Fortus said they're rehearsing right now, but yet he's the only new member to announce the tour dates on his site. Now, if the reunion stuff is true (which its probably not), did anyone think that maybe Fortus is hanging around because Izzy and Gilby don't want to/can't do it? Izzy doesn't want to tour or be in the public eye anymore, and Gilby is busy doing the Supernova/Rockstar 2 thing, so I'm sure he has an iron clad contract and can't do anything else. Fortus may simply be the rhythm guitarist in a reunited GN'R. (Again, if its true - and while its prob. not, there are some signs that CANNOT be ignored.)

My thought about the reunion rumours is that:

1) Jarmo should set up a 'sticky' thread for people to post their reunion wet dreams in

or

2) Jarmo should set up an entire reunion sub-forum as every second post is about that boring topic.

I managed to miss the fact that Guns are doing warm up gigs in a swanky hall in a months time. That is bound to be the place where a single video shoot is done. Things like that are important, the fact that Slash and Axl theoretically could one day not hate each other isn't.

you know, there are forums out there that sensor words band names like slipknot and coldplay as if they were curse words. i would like to see a similar implementation here with reference to 'reunion'.

There were a lot of things said, a lot of bitter things, money lost, friendships ended-like when you fight with your friends, you say things that might not be true, and this is a multi-million dollar band we are talking about-I'm a big Van Halen fan, you should see that he said/she said mess over the years-it happens when any band breaks up

Even if I'd play along with the idea for argument's sake, Tommy might still be around because he hasn't even updated his site on the Soul Asylum gig in Philly, which he's doing today. So his website doesn't prove him either way. Robin doesn't have a tour section on his site. Brain doesn't even have a website.

Tommy sounded like the biggest pussy on that radio show yesterday.  He was very shady when asked about GNR.  Said he was in, then paused and said, "we'll see."  Something is very wrong in the GNR camp.  He did not want any GNR played either last night on the show.  Then, after he got off the show, the DJ played November Rain.  That was a "non" positive interview in regards to GNR.  He did say he was interested in getting back together with the Mats.  He seemed to talk about everything except GNR.

IF, however, there's a reunion, I would much rather see Adler playing than Sorum. But that's a whole new story.

Wow, they must do cyber rehearsals.  How can you have members all over the country rehearsing together?  Oh never mind, other then Axl and I guess Tommy, I am not so sure on Tommy, who else is in the band to rehearse?

I don't think a full-blown reunion is imminent... but I do think Slash is very much in play.

Give Slash back all his leads on the old material (thank God).... give him Bucket's parts on the new material, but let him write and record his own shit in its place... give Robin a couple minor leads on the old stuff (e.g. 2nd Rocket Queen solo)... and let him play his own leads on the new material. Fortus is full-time rhythm guitar on all material (a la Izzy and Gilby). It's not crazy... that's what the band was trying out 10 years ago with Slash, Zach Wylde and Paul Huge... if Slash has finally warmed up to the idea and he would rather be playing some serious rock n' roll than whatever the fuck VR is talking about... and if Axl/GN'R can throw him a ton of $$$$.... it matches up.

Basically, Slash fills a need. Not to be harsh... but the other ex-Gunners don't... so they're out in the cold...

Maybe if Stinson or Brain flakes out... then McKagan and/or Sorum would probably get a call... but I think Axl will roll with the new guys as long as they're reporting for duty.

But a reunion doesn't necessarily mean that the new band members would be fired. Besides, I don't think Axl would ever do that after all these years and all the effort they've been making. A reunion could simply mean playing a couple of gigs with the old band and that's it.

Dude, I'm pretty sure we're all allowed to have an opinion on which band we'd prefer to see.  I consider the new band to be Guns N Roses and I'd be sad to see any of them leave.

No, no...you're right. Compared to Slash, Finck is just a weird guy who likes to watch birds and stuff. I'd like to see rock n' roll played loud and dirty.

Well we know the the General is Brain's baby, and that is reputed to be the best song on the album so you might not want to be such a smart ass when you have no idea.  Given that Axl has been working with some of these people for over 8 years, I'm pretty sure they've had some musical input.  Dizzy has often said that Axl makes sure everyone in the band gets input into the songs.

so sad axl lets himself be influenced by this people?s likes of music, i mean, it worries me about how this new album is going to sound with the influence of all these guys.

I really hope axl saved the parts that brian may recorded and maybe some of the stuff that buckethead did.

Now, if on these new shows axl is doing, especially rio or download......... if axl were to take the stage with this fucked up nu-gnr play the songs hes actually completed from Chinese democracy live with the nu , then at the encore, The real deal GNR were to take the stage........well, wouldnt that be something.....one hell of a moment in history dont you think? :o

That's pretty much what I'd say, but I'd let Fortus play a couple of leads too; the Rocket Queen slide one, the Think About You one, maybe have him and Slash double up on the first Nightrain solo as he did with Bucket. November Rain, I'd keep the same setup they had in 2002, with Slash taking the final solo and the other guys playing the first two solos. Fortus is too good a guitarist to waste on rhythm parts only...
