Title: Duff to play same festivals as GNR
Post by: rocky on April 10, 2006, 07:52:37 PM
I know that this is probably something to go in the VR or ex-gunners section, but I am posting this here because of the possibilities that Axl and Duff would run into each other at some shows.  I believe at some of the european festivals AIC is playing on the same day as GNR.  I wonder what would happen if Duff and Axl would run into each other?  I got this from blabbermouth.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan might go on tour this summer with the reunited ALICE IN CHAINS as the band's second guitarist.

McKagan performed with ALICE IN CHAINS last month in New Jersey at a taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!" (Photo#1, Photo#2).

ALICE IN CHAINS wil kick off their first tour in a decade on May 18 in Los Angeles and continue with a series of surprise U.S. club shows before the band head over to Europe.

"Everybody has disappointments in life, and we certainly had ours," said guitarist Jerry Cantrell, now reunited with bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney. "I just want to continue living life. We're having a great time."

ALICE IN CHAINS have confirmed that COMES WITH THE FALL vocalist/guitarist William DuVall will sing lead vocals for the group on their upcoming run, along with a few "special guests."

DuVall performed two songs with ALICE IN CHAINS at the "Decades Rock Live!" taping and he has also sung ALICE IN CHAINS material as part of guitarist Jerry Cantrell's solo touring band.

axl doesnt seem like the type of guy to hang out backstage.. Duff wouldnt just bump into him... I think Axl would show up at the venue a few minutes before he hits the stage and leave right after..who knows tho...  Isnt duff supposed to be working on a new VR album?

The only thing I can think of is at the MSG show (i think) Axl said that Duff N' Slash both didnt wanna record patience, but he said it in a bad manner.

Duff rules more than any other wannabe Gunner bassist. Plus the fact that AIC are supporting Guns gives me great hope that Mr Stinson has cleared off and the band I'll be seeing at Download is Guns N Roses and not 'Axl and the Wage Collectors'

Shoot me down, go on.....

I don't believe how so many people here show absolutely no respect to the old band! Why are you here if you seemingly hate them? It can't be because of the new music that the new band has put out, because that has been absolutely nothing except for a few leaked songs that you pretty much had to be a fan to even know about...

I like Tommy, but it would be amazing to see Duff and/or Slash onstage with Guns N' Roses again.

Most of these people talking shit about the old band never experienced the old band.? I think they are too young to have experienced the "original" GNR.? All they know are these new members,?not the members that made GNR one of the greatest bands of all time.

Too bad they couldn't pull their heads outta their asses while Layne was still around.  I can't imgaine anyone else singing for them.  Cantrell is good but Staley will be missed everytime he opens his mouth..

Thats not a very good analogy. If it wasn't for the old band, all of these 'younger' fans wouldn't know about the new band at all.

that would be awesome, but why would AIC need a second guitarist? especially if the singer is a guitarist too.
I guess if he does come along it's cos he just wants to play and have fun with his pals in AIC.

Totally agree, its not AIC without Layne.  They should have just formed a new band and just have 1/3 of their set be AIC songs - or go on tour with guest lead singers playing old AIC songs or something.  Just lame when bands try to replace a lead singer and call it the same thing.  The voice is the most recognizable part of most bands.

Duff in rehab? hahha that's as bogus as it gets. he didn't even go to rehab back in the day when he kicked his habits. I don't see him as the guy who risks his life screwing around with drugs and booze again.

but maybe you heard it wrong though, cos Sorum was recently in rehab.

I was born in 87, does that mean I dont know much about the old band? man ive watched tons of videos of the old and new band, obviously the old band was better.. they guys matched... like they were all different, but fit together well, not everyone is opposite in the band.. i mean seeing a guy like axl standing beside bucket head is weird.. BH belongs in a band like Slipknot or something lol...

The old band was dangerous and a lot cooler.. todays band doesnt have the same image..

yeah i'm too young to realize tommy never misses a note. tommy made one solo record that owns anything any ex member had done before, including, duff. and that he can actually play duff's parts a lot better.
i'm so young...
i love duff, but i'm not stupid. just because duff was there first it doesn't mean he's better than tommy, he isn't
besides, to have slash and duff back on the fold would mean i was holding on all these years to dream that never came true. i wan't the new gn'r to do their thing, release a cd and show the world what was the plan in the first place.
cuz we lost the old line up so all our faith is in the new guys, if we don't have that... i dunno why i was wasting my time all these years coming in here reading about the new band.

Play DUFFS parts alot better. ?Until CD comes out, I wouldn't try going around proving that Tommy is better, until Tommy starts writing timeless licks. ?Pop in AFD and listen to SCOM when Duff first starts playing...A timeless and memorable bass intro. ?Listen to Its so Easy when Duff first starts the song..another timeless bass part. ?Play DUFFS parts alot better? ?Duff INVENTED the parts.  That is what makes a musician in the end.

I don't want to downplay Stinson, he's a great musician, and I'm sure he will be bad-ass on CD.? But I think he has a good ways to go in proving he is the best bassist GNR has had.? Duffs had 4 albums as proof.? But in the end it doesn't matter.  Comparing old GNR to new GNR is apples and oranges.

yadayadayada

listen to believe in me, listen to village gorilla head.

if you still can't make up your mind who's best. it's your problem not mine.

tommy can write, sing, play guitar and bass, and have a cd out there that 20 years from now will still be awsome to listen to.

duff's solo efforts were pretty mediocre compared to tommy's.
and if a solo record defines what you can do on your own as a musician. in my mind there is no doubt tommy kicks ass.

for fucks sake, duff can even screw his own bass lines in VR. listen to suckertrain blues live. chances are, half of the times duff's bass will start half step down to the whole song.

uh... in case you guys didnt know, the replacements were actually one of the few bands that could rival appetite for destruction. tommy is one of the greats. and while it would be sweet to see the true guns, i couldnt think of a better substitute for duff than tommy. the guy knows how to play, was in one of the greatest bands ever, contributed a handful of great records with said band and lived rock n roll to boot.

but it'd be nice to see duff in aic as it'd be one of the few occassions id get to see him - i cant go to velvet revolver because giving money to that cunt weiland i find too repulsive. and their record was woeful.

The question is about duff playin' same festivals as GNR.

I doubt duff will be playing those shows.. I believe he did something brief as a fill for them

I think duff is cool the man became a bass player to have more of a chance back in the day.. I like the idea the man can play all the instruments he has on his album (solo works).. So he started as a guitar player then switched to bass, can play drums and can sing on certain punk songs...  I never liked so fine, but I liked him on attitude

Ohhh no!!!!  I'm sorry.  Really, I promise I will never do such a thing again.  When I say my prayers tonight, I will say a prayer hoping tht ChrisMaciel forgives me for the sins i've committed in this thread.

On topic, to my knowledge Jerry Cantrell didn't play with a second guitarist while AIC toured (even though AIC didn't tour much).  I don't see why a second guitarist would be needed for a tour.  Jerry has always handled the duties himself.

I don't believe how so many people here show absolutely no respect to the old band! Why are you here if you seemingly hate them?

Most of these people talking shit about the old band never experienced the old band.  I think they are too young to have experienced the "original" GNR.  All they know are these new members, not the members that made GNR one of the greatest bands of all time.

yeah i'm too young to realize tommy never misses a note. tommy made one solo record that owns anything any ex member had done before, including, duff. and that he can actually play duff's parts a lot better.

Play DUFFS parts alot better.  Until CD comes out, I wouldn't try going around proving that Tommy is better, until Tommy starts writing timeless licks.  Pop in AFD and listen to SCOM when Duff first starts playing...A timeless and memorable bass intro.  Listen to Its so Easy when Duff first starts the song..another timeless bass part.  Play DUFFS parts alot better?  Duff INVENTED the parts.  That is what makes a musician in the end.

yadayadayada

listen to believe in me, listen to village gorilla head.

if you still can't make up your mind who's best. it's your problem not mine.

tommy can write, sing, play guitar and bass, and have a cd out there that 20 years from now will still be awsome to listen to.

duff's solo efforts were pretty mediocre compared to tommy's.
and if a solo record defines what you can do on your own as a musician. in my mind there is no doubt tommy kicks ass.

I think you should listen to Beautiful Disease. it's just as good, if not better, than Village Gorilla Head.
and of course, I think Contraband is quite a lot better than VGH.

Alice In Chains go on the road May 18th; I doubt VR will have finsihed recording by then.

AIC won't necessarily be 'opening' for GN'R.

AIC are playing the Saturday of Donington and then heading to Ireland on the Sunday.

The only conversation likely to happen between Duff and Axl that weekend would be as their planes cross each other's paths over the Irish Sea.

Tommy belongs to GNR.

Duff belongs to VR.

How great they were or who made GNR big in the past is none of my concern.
I don't even care whether it's (regarded to be) one of the greatest bands of all time.
The past is past and is not even mine.

Now and the future is where I am most happy about belonging to.  :peace:

axl doesnt seem like the type of guy to hang out backstage.

I donno about backstage but I hear during the 02 tour Axl was often seen hanging about the rear of the stage with other members while other band was playing there...

You know I guess I can respect a person for not saying anything but why tell teh gnr community he said it to you open that can of worms only to not reveal anything.. it's obvious if he told some fan this he didn't care if it was told to others otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned it... yes I think it probably has changed by now but it owuld have been  cool to know regardless..

It's funny that we have even got into a position where not everyone is sure about the exact line-up of either Guns n' Roses or Velvet Revolver...

"... is Tommy Still in Guns...?"
"... has Slash left VR...?"

... etc etc...

During such times rumours are going to spread like wildfire.

The fact remains that Slash hasn't been photographed with VR for quite some time now and new GNR haven't been photographed... well... ever!

So, you can't really blame people for speculating.

My two cents... I'm English I mean... My two pence...

I see your point ARC.  But, we have gotten confirmation from Slash that "as far as he knows" he's still in VR.  And we've heard through Mysteron that Tommy is still in GNR.  But you're right, the silence is really making things kinda strange for both camps.
