That's a totally subjective remark. I think Keith Richards is the greatest guitar player, but that's just me.

Hendrix is the man. Plan and simple. He should have won and he did.

Bah... all Hendrix did was turn the volume and distortion to 11. Nothing that Chuck Berry hadn't already done 10 years prior.

Gotta say, Hendrix is a bigger icon, but Page is the better guitarist, simply put.  Hendrix is more universally known as the ultimate guitarist.  His stage presence could not be beat!

i dont think hendrixx is the best guitarist ever.to be honest its quite posssible that the greatest guitarist was never exposed, just a nobody?
but he changed the guitar as we know it,and influenced far more guitarists than anyone else including page.and plus he deserves extra credit for being able to play at all with all the drugs he was on.

Yes, add 'IMO'.

However, just so u know he was voted the greatest guitarist ever, on both the RollingStone and Total Guitar polls and hell, Slash is not even in the top hundred.

wierd because in Total Guitar issue of December 2004 the greatest guitarists were;

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Jimmy Page
3. Eric Clapton (i think)
4. Slash

I dont care too much about magazines cause they always skip Brian May they put him in like 50th place or something and in the first places appear Kurt Cobain? thats just plain stupid

Yes u're right. But he's not there in the top 100 in the Rolling Stone poll. I listed the polls (even though all magazine polls are shit), since any comment I made in favour of Hendrix would be 'subjective'...

I dont think Slash should be number 4 on that list at all. Theres plenty guitarists who are better than Slash.

No.4 is definitely too high for Slash.  He's good but let's not be that biased just because we are GNR fans.  By the same token everybody has a right to their own opinion, like assholes everybody has one.

Ilove Hendrix, but I used to think he was a bit overrated, UNTIL the day I read MIck Taylor saying a little something about the times he played with him:

"One time, he came to this little club in London called the Speakeasy. It was a little club that musicians came to ... Hendrix came there anyway... it was that kind of club that musicians used to go to in the evening. He wanted to play, but there was no spare guitar... I'm right handed ...and he's left-handed...and all he did was just turn it upside-down ... It was amazing to hear someone play so well...and with the guitar backwards! Jimi Hendrix could play both ways...which is quite phenomenal.

I've never met anyone else that could do that. It's like playing the piano backwards.... Because all the strings and notes are reversed. He seemed to be able to play equally well both ways ... which is quite phenomenal.

You can't learn to play one way...and I can't think of anyone that I've ever met who's left handed that can just turn a right handed guitar upside down... To turn it upside-down and play backwards. All the chords are reversed...and instead of bending a string.... You'd have to pull it."

Man, that?s just PHENOMENAL!!
