Title: "Greatest Rock&Roll Album of All Time" Survivor - 1980's (Discussion Thread) Post by: Neemo on March 24, 2006, 06:31:39 AM Here's where we can talk about the 1980's Album Survivor.
Big 80's acts like Prince, The King of Pop MJ, Poison, Ozzy Osbourne and VanHalen missed the cut :o wow!! also, for the first time we have 1 band who was nominated for 2 of the top 10 albums. Way to go Aerosmith : ok: Motley Crue Almost had 2 as well and Metallica was close to getting 3 in the top 10!!! Thriller's the second best selling album of all time. Well, I'll call it the best, because The Eagles Greatest Hits is a compilation. I suppose the majority of the people here are metal/hard rock fans and we tend to ignore other genres of music when so much of our own great music is available to choose from. : ok:
Title: Re: "Greatest Rock&Roll Album of All Time" Survivor - 1980's (Discussion Thread Post by: Skeletor on March 24, 2006, 08:21:53 AM I think Thriller's too iconic to be in the survivor anyway. Same reason I didn't vote for Purple Rain. Also, it's good to have at least some kind of similarity between the nominees...

Well, yes. Why would u expect 'Thriller' to be nominated in a 'Greatest Rock & Roll Album' survivor? I thought that it has to be only one per band nah..i changed it during the 90's nominations...if it's nominated it gets in, what can i say....you guys are the ones who voted both albums in :P Title: Re: "Greatest Rock&Roll Album of All Time" Survivor - 1980's (Discussion Thread Post by: Backslash on March 24, 2006, 10:24:04 AM Well, yes. Why would u expect 'Thriller' to be nominated in a 'Greatest Rock & Roll Album' survivor? I actually posed that question after I submitted my nominations, but no one responded saying that it couldn't. ?Can pop be considered rock and roll? ?The two tend to overlap a lot. ?It's entirely open to your own personal definition of rock and roll. Otherwise people would be nominating the likes of Avril Lavigne and Shakira. :nervous: If u're talking about bands like Bon Jovi and Mr. Big, that would be Pop/Metal. Well what about U2? Does everything have to be black and white? We can have shades of grey... Not saying that MJ is comparable to U2 on the scale, just that U2 can be considered pop as much as it can be considered rock. The Beatles and Elvis are considered the fathers of rock and roll music, but their music was popular. That's where the word "pop" derives from. Pop music isn't really a defined genre, as it kind of melts everything together. But yeah, I don't care, either way. We've got enough good albums to choose from. Title: Re: "Greatest Rock&Roll Album of All Time" Survivor - 1980's (Discussion Thread) Post by: Neemo on March 27, 2006, 10:19:10 AM bump to discuss this round : ok:
Title: Re: "Greatest Rock&Roll Album of All Time" Survivor - 1980's (Discussion Thread) Post by: Ignatius on March 27, 2006, 10:33:49 AM Two things to add to this thread. How did "The Real Thing" didn't even make it is beyond me.? That album is one of the best 10 rock and roll albums of all time. I can't believe only 3? people nominated it. And, why do people hate U2 so much? The Joshua Tree is an 80's classic. Just like MJ thriller. You may or may not like Bono...truth is, he's just an arrogant bastard and a show off. I'm tired of him already. However, the band still rocks. The late albums may not be just as good, but how many of you people have heard The Joshua Tree? I'm not asking how many have heard the first three songs, I mean the entire album? I'm sure people base their votes just by listening to With or W/out and Where the streets...but how about the rest of the songs?
