Le Zenith holds approximately 6000 people. Seems a little small, but the more intimate the better as far as I'm concerned  ;)

@ Shoco : yes intimate, but in other hand Z?nith has a bad reputation for the poor quality of his sound...

You think so? In my opinion, Bercy tends to be worse because it wasn't originally designed to host music events. I've been to many shows at Le Zenith and the sound was OK I guess. It might depend on where you're positioned.....

OMG, it'll be my birthday, i'll be 31 day after and it's 14 years since....

They could play Olympia, it is a myth and has a good sound.

Even better, a proper theatre, the REX.
Here are piccies of the rex :

ORRR

the " palais des congres"

here is the june calendar for it :
JAMES BROWN   Jeudi 29 20h30
JOHN FOGERTY   Mercredi 28 20h00
La nuit du feu 2006   Vendredi 23 20h00
REQUIEM DE VERDI   Lundi 19 20h00

Of course, there are bigger venues, but just in case one gets stuck, one never knows... ;)

If this is true, it implies that GnR are staying in Europe a bit longer, and that Roskilde (june 29th - july 2nd) seems more likely than earlier  :peace:

It's cool for a start. Hope they will play a stadium (Parc des Princes - 50.000 seats) a little bit later after he release of ChiDem. Maybe in 2007!

Le Zenith is pretty small, 5.000 or 6.000 seats.

It would be MUCH better for a comeback than le Zenith. More talkative. GN'R already played at "Paris-Bercy" in July 1993. Axl knows that place. It's a 15.000/17.000 seats capacity arena. The band would pack it without a doubt. It would be sold out.

you are delusional.

I have asked around for a few years, but most people who loved GNR then now have families and can't go out " just like that" ( work, baby sitters, moved away)

It's best to start with a smaller venue and come back later in the year if necessary rather than PAY a FORTUNE for bercy, the TRUCKS, the LIGHTS/SOUNDEQUIPMENT/INSTRUMENTS/CASINGS, the CATERING ( food hotels bla bla bla), SALARIES, KEROSEN and you name it for one night that wouldn't be packed ( only an opinion)

Since what they are planning is a festival tour, it would be surprising to see them headlining an indoor concert, with who as an opening act ?
Remember the new line up is virtually unknown here. And Axl Rose isn't "Axl Rose" like in the US, I it sounds like he's a hard rock singer among other hard rock singers. That's how Slash was introduced recently on a mainstream radio.

Furthermore, even on a regular tour, I don't think they would pack Bercy. I'd rather see them in le Z?nith anyway.

Yeah Le Bataclan rules! :)

I highly doubt they will play Paris, especially not in an arena such as Bercy (which is kinda like the MSG in NYC). If they come here they will play at a festival I guess, but I just think they will "skip" France like in 2002.

the only summer festival ( early july) is SOLIDAYS ( fighting aids ), it lasts 3 days in LONGCHAMPS race track ( west paris, not far from tennis court Roland Garos)

Corrs did it, robbie williams did it, even Iggy Pop did it so why not Axl, huuuummm ? :peace: :hihi:

Les Eurock?ennes is held in Belfort, not La Rochelle (quite the other end of the country  ;D ). And it takes place in early July, so that's probably a bit too late.

bah, everybody hates the americans as well, and the reason why the americans and the french hate eachother is because they see themselves in the mirror while looking at eachother.

Ps: Im neither french nor from the US, so leave me out of this ?;D :P

That's great news!

Do you think I should try and organize (or have other people organize) some kind of GN'R party somewhere (in a club, or in a rock bar), after the concert? Or maybe a couple of days before or after?
This could even help promoting the concert...
Do you think this kind of initiative would be welcome?

Not with Axl (let's be realistic), but for the fans.
Playlist: Guns music + past and modern influences.

I could even try to have a free entrance thing, at least for the die-hard fans from the forum, and maybe for everybody... depending on whether it's a week day or a week-end day (friday or saturday).

There are only two suites that look good for the price asked and the others are HIGHLY exagerated, a lot of money for the offer if you ask me. They are taking the piss.

And what do you think about the Hotel Costes? I sometimes go there to have a drink...

Anyway, I don't think high profile places such as these would be right to organize a party for GN'R fans. It's way too expensive for the average fan.
I was thinking about a party in a rock club with a dancefloor (or maybe two). There are a couple of places where I could find a deal to make it free, or at least very cheap, for people who would like to enjoy a Guns N' Roses night.
It could be free on a week day, I think, but in Paris, most people don't go out too late during the week. So I am not sure whether there would be a lot of people. Since the concert is on a tuesday, it could be difficult for a lot of people to spend a full night partying after it. Maybe the friday 16 could be right. It would even help promoting the concert, because there would be flyers for the party floating around a couple of weeks before...

Yes, i like it, i like their lounge, i like their garden, it's nice, it has wifi access and they have meeting rooms big enough for anything.
I know a few people who seem to have their habits there ( not naming anyone, i visualise one particular french singer lol )

PARTY PLACE TO BE RESERVED IN ADVANCE :

IT IS IN BERCY VILLAGE

THE FROG'S basement area.

We had our robbie williams afterparty there, it is a pub situated at a walkeable distance from bercy ( unless you're a star in which case i know how to get there through the park unseen lol !!!! true true !!!)

Yes, why not. I don't know this place, though the name is somehow familiar. Maybe I have heard about it...

Anyway, it wouldn't be a problem to find a place and a team. I could ask people who already organize underground rock parties to do it with me. There are at least 2 or 3 places where I am sure I can find a deal. The question is more: should it be the day of the concert, or the friday before (or maybe the friday after)? Any idea? The choice of the place depends on that...

Another question would be: would GN'R management appreciate this kind of initiative, or would they rather see it not happening? I wouldn't want to interfere in Guns management's strategy, or anything negative like that...

well ll lll..............

hmmmmm....

Shall we wait and see ?

Red hot chilis are in bercy that week too and they did a party last time for the fans.
Korn in in bercy on 25th too.

Maybe it's best to wait so we know what places are alrzady reserved and by whom and what gnr management has ( or not) in store ?

Also, i think it could be a godo idea to leave the idea open to invite the team to the party ( meaning not just band but roadies, techies etc etc..after all, they rarely get to see the cities, do they ?)

I think a party at jean roch's VIP room is a good idea.....

But ...but but ....

Title: Re: GN'R to play Paris, France
Post by: dust of my dust on March 08, 2006, 06:04:56 PM
Exactly. I won't do anything if it is not approved by GN'R's management.

They may have their own plans, and I wouldn't want to interfere in any kind of negative way.
But if nothing is planned, they might appreciate the free promotion (thousands of flyers announcing the party and the concert) and the fact that something is happening around the concert.

I first thought about something for the fans, as the band will probably have other plans. That's why I thought about an underground club. Places like the VIP are too select and too expensive for the average Guns Fan (and they don't like to play rock music there, not their style at all...), and booking a place like this would be to organizean after party forthe band. They'll probably end up in such a place anyway, but it will be private.
I could organize such a thing, but I don't think Guns management will need me to do so...

I think more about the fans who would love to dance to their favorite songs all night long without having to pay too much in order to enter the party and to have some drinks.
I think it would attract GN'R fans and other rock fans (young or older), and it would help bringing GN'R back in the current rock context, not as something from the past.

I think it would attract GN'R fans and other rock fans (young or older), and it would help bringing GN'R back in the current rock context, not as something from the past.

i'll be at the VIP or the Doobie's ;)

Maybe we should wait a little and then contact GN'R management in order to check their view on the subject.

Since the Frog is quite near of Bercy, it would be a good choice for an after party. But then again, weshould wait and see if the management has other plans. Also, don't forget that the 20th of june is a tuesday: I'm not sure whether many people could party all night long after the concert since many would have to work the day after. And the 21th is the national "f?te de la musique"...

All in all, if an after party was hard to organize, still would it be possible to organize a "GN'R night" somewhere a couple of days before (friday the 16th, for instance). A party for rock fans that would be mainly dedicated to GN'R mixed with other rock music (past influences, but also nowadays rock music). I think there could be around 200 to 300 persons...

It's not sold-out. To tell you the truth, I expected the show to sell much faster, to be sold-out in a couple of hours, but it's not the case. There is (still) absolutely no promotion in France about this gig, and about the band in general. Merck should wake-up, we need promotion here. It will be sold-out, but not today, not even tomorow. U2 sold 160.000 tickets (2 X 80.000 tickets at Stade De France) within 1H30 in July...

This tells me one thing: Scandinavians and The Finns particularly are crazy for Gn'R!  :peace:

But it seems funny to me that there has not been any promotion in France. There were some paper adverts and tv commercials here in Finland (showing the old band  ::)) Though I think it's just that the french promoter feels like no need to promote it. The advertisement here was done by Welldone, not Axl and Merch. :hihi:

And what does it matter if it is sold in 2 hours or 2 months when it's  sold out anyways?

I don't think anyone can afford that. Except if they can take 6 weeks off and have a lot of money on their savings account...

There has been no promotion at all in France. The only thing I'm aware of is the organizers sending me the press release and poster (digital file) so I could put them up on my site. I worked my ass off to promote the show on my site and on my board and I believe it worked pretty well. I got a lot of emails today from visitors thanking me for informing them about the show and tickets sale...which means they really didn't get that info anywhere else. That is kinda sad that there has been no promotion, but it's kinda nice to see tickets have been selling pretty fast nonetheless.

And we managed to get the ticketing system server on its cha-na-na-na-na-knees quite a few times today! ;D

Most of people aren't even aware GNR will play at Bercy arena simply because they don't necessary surf on GNR webstites. Most of people don't even know GNR will play in France. People just don't know it. If there had been more promotion, I'm sure it would have been already sold-out.

well, it's not "almost" sold out. I believed like everybody it was at 10.30 am this morning, but it sems the more the time pasts, the more there are still tickets available tonight (wich is pretty weird). There are still tikets on "carr? or", cat 1 and cat 2. None of them are sold-out. I don't know the figures, but it seems there are still lots of tikets available . It's a unique show in France, in Paris, one of the biggest city in Europe and in the world, it's not a small place in the world. Ok Bercy is pretty big, but it's 15/17.000 seats, not 80.000.

Yeah, but what's weird is that you people are acting like GN'R has been as active for the past 10 years as U2.

Reality Check: GN'R haven't released a new record in 13 years. Most people think they've died or don't exist anymore as a band.

So, if you ask me, 12.000 or 10.000 tickets in one day, is more than a lot...

Limiting promotion, also enables the die hard fans to get tickets!  Once the buzz hit's after the festivals, if there are a few thousand tickets left, they will be snatched up!  Also, letting the buzz grow from the ground up, will make it more real, and thus long lasting!!
