Title: Last verse of Paradise City
Post by: Rocksteady on March 14, 2006, 02:46:39 AM
This song totally rocks and so do the lyrics but I can't really understand what the last verse means....

Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a court jester with a broken heart
He said -
Turn me around and take me back to the start
I must be losin' my mind - "Are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times

Now in the verse before it Axl was sitting in a gas chamber, so is this about Axl going to hell and seeing the end of the world (Captain America's been torn apart) a million times. Or are they just "ilussions" caused by the gas.

Off the top of my head, I'd say it refers to someone losing his faith in something he/she believes in and is used to defend (like a superhero, thus Captain America), because something's happened (an unjustified execution, random injustice in the world...). Then Axl comments like "What the fuck are you sayin'? That type of shit happens all the time!"

So, yeah, in a way it is the world coming to an end, but on a personal level for someone. I think the last verse is somewhat detached from the previous ones and not talking about the same person, but more like commenting on the happenings in the previous verses.

My .02

I wouldn't bother trying to figure out what AFD lyrics mean. Some of them don't mean anything, they just fit some rocking songs.

Dunno but "the sugeon general tells me its hazardous to breath, I'd have another cigarette but I cant see, tell who your going to believe" refers to America in the 50's or 60's when the effects of smoking were becoming clear, one of the side effects feared was blindness and some US official, called The Sugeon General, was trying to get smoking outlawed, depriving citezans of freedom of choice to smoke.

The whole song is just a sarcastic look at America/LA-.
