Title: At least the leaks will mean that they will play those songs live when they tour
Post by: Ax on March 12, 2006, 09:53:52 PM
I know some people think that the leaks are a bad thing in that people are hearing what will be on CD before it is released. However, who knows if CD will actually be out by the time the summer tour dates roll around. It would suck for them to play the same set list as the 2002 tour out of fear of people bootlegging the shows and everyone hearing all the new songs before the record comes out. At least with these leaks on the internet, they will be able to play all these songs live without worrying about blowing the lid off of CD before it comes out, since we've already heard the songs. Although, hopefully this turns out to be a non-issue because CD is released before the summer.

Doesn't mean they are a lock to be played, but maybe more likely.

I'd love to hear Better in a live setting  : ok:

well just because songs are leaked doesn't mean they will play them,it would be cool and all,but it doesn't mean they'll play them,it might have the opposite effect,it might make them not wanna play them at all :nervous:

I've been thinking along similar lines lately.  If Axl knew the album wasn't going to be out in time for the European tour and wanted to add some new songs to spruce up the set  list, why not leak them first?  I mean it would only be a matter of time before the live versions hit the net, so why not release a more professional sounding, early version of the songs you plan on playing?   These leaks could be a metaphorical 'where I was'  and 'where I am now' comparison of the new songs for the die hard fans--- a way to show how the song has developed over the last so-many years.  In all likelyhood the leaks have been reworked (most likely sans Buckethead), so the live versions may be radically different from the versions that we have been listening to for last few months.
Also, to stray from the topic a little bit---- doesn't anybody find it convenient that (in the rollingstone interview) Axl mentioned two of his favorite songs were TWAT and Better (the latter being a title that no one had ever heard of) and then *POOF* they appear a few short weeks later?  That just struck me as very odd--- Axl seems to be a very calculated indvidual, so I found it quite convenient that these two songs were leaked shortly after this interview.  Couple that with the fact that he alluded to the fact he would be playing summer festivals, I think he knew exactly what he was doing in that interview.  Oh well, there's a 99.9% chance that I'm full of shit, but what the fuck, I've been bored...

That was the purpose, IMO.

This is not 2002, axl has the album ready for release and will play new songs dont worry. Id say they would play like 10 old songs and 10 new at first

the more new the better. Im not interested in hearing these guys butcher the family favorites a second time

I would have thought these leaks do present them with the opportunity to play the new songs without worrying too much about people hearing them fresh on CD now

I just hope theres no more leaks so at least half the album is a surprise

But if it continues to take forever, then bring the leaks on I say  :peace:

[Axl]Not to be an asshole[/Axl], but how do you know? As far as we know, at least one leak is very old, the other's could be as well. The only thing these leaks proove is that there is a security hole that wasn't there 2002.

AFD Rehash Tour Pt. II is perfectly possible.

AFD Rehash Tour Pt. II
I should have trademarked that term. :hihi: I was the first person to ever say that, and now alot of people use it. I even see people at other forums saying it.

I think people will shout out requesting for some of the leaked songs. I think they will play Better and T.W.A.T (thats if they decide to play them). Really don't think they'll play I.R.S for some reason. Maybe because Axl has never even talked about this song.

Great, spread the negativity  :P

As I said, after the 02 disaster they couldn't possibly go into another tour without something definate. They did before and they just can't do it again.

I have a feeling that IRS won't end up coming out on the album.. just a gut feeling. But I know because these demos were leaked that the finished product will be compared to the demos and if they are better or worse without Buckethead etc.

There was no album in sight the first time ,they are gonna play more than three new songs on this tour. They prob wont play all of them until the album drops but once that happens t hey are going to play a ton of new songs.

Yup...I found this a bit strange too and I'm 100% mindset that these leaks were done purposely. I also find it hard to believe the 'leaker's' story of having these demos for over a year and just deciding now to release them. BS!

As far as playing these new tracks live, I think it's a plausible argument that they have a better (no pun intended) chance of being played than other tracks from CD...however...I DO think we are in for some cool treats at these shows. I think we're gonna see them pull out the big three from AFD + two more (nightrain, brownstone perhaps), two or three illusion era songs, a new cover or two and then hit us with the 2002 tracks plus four or five more CD tracks...IMO.
