Title: Time for Chords! Post by: Communist China on March 11, 2006, 09:58:13 PM Since this is for people with real music knowledge, I'll post it here. If the mods feel the need to move it, that's fine too.
The game is simple: A test of your knowledge of chords. Spell out the poster's previous chord and then name a chord for the next person to spell out. Example: C minor 7 Spelled out: C Eb G Bb I'll get you started: Spell out a Db Augmented 7 chord Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Communist China on March 14, 2006, 04:22:06 PM ^ I'll give it a shot.
E G# B D F# A Whoever gets this wins the prize of my admiration. Spell out an entire 2-5-1 in the key of A. Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Genesis on March 14, 2006, 04:26:08 PM ^ I'll give it a shot. E G# B D F# A Not quite. +11 means an augmented 11th note - A#. So E9+11 is: E G# B D F# A# Whoever gets this wins the prize of my admiration. Spell out an entire 2-5-1 in the key of A. Didn't quite understand that. An entire 2-5-1? What's that mean? Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Communist China on March 14, 2006, 04:31:28 PM ^ Sorry I was looking for a #, not a +. My bad.
2-5-1 is a progression where you take a key, and play the two... Well, actually I'll wait to see if anyone else can get it. Title: Re: Time for Chords! Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Genesis on March 18, 2006, 12:25:50 AM 2 - 5 - 1 in key of a ok bmin7 E7 A7? Isn't that a Jazz progression? :nervous: Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Communist China on March 21, 2006, 05:45:24 PM ^ Yes, it is. You knocking jazz?!
In a 2-5-1 the 2 is minor, 5 dominant, and 1 is major bmin7 E7 Amaj7 If you had a minor 2-5-1 in A minor you'd go: bmin7(b5) E7 Amin7. Title: Re: Time for Chords! However, I don't listen to it and hence I don't know any Jazz progressions... Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Communist China on March 22, 2006, 03:34:28 PM ^ Yes, it is. You knocking jazz?! :hihi: Naw, Jazz is cool. Most good guitarists are Jazz players. However, I don't listen to it and hence I don't know any Jazz progressions... When it comes down to it, if you got your 2-5-1s and your 1-6-2-5s you're more or less set. Maybe a 12 bar blues too. Title: Re: Time for Chords! Post by: Genesis on March 22, 2006, 11:31:28 PM I know the 12 bar blues progression. What others are there? (Blues progressions, I mean)...
