Here Today... Gone To Hell!

The more I analyze Axl Rose, the more he has in common with Mike Tyson.  Both guys were brilliant at what they did, and captivated everyone.  Mike Tyson is still a huge pay per view draw, eventhough he sucks.  But we all watch cause we don't know what will happen next.  We hope we may get that glimpse of brilliance he once displayed.  They both came from the streets.  They both had a lot of anger.  The both were masters of their craft.  They are now both jokes of their industry.  Yet, we still love them both.  They both got really rich, and then something changed about them.  They both have polar personalities.  I just can't think of anyone else that has become parodies of themselves like Mike Tyson and Axl Rose have.  Well, I guess Jacko kind of did, but he came up a much different way.  Why is the board lit up over an Axl leak?  Why does Tyson still get a huge pay per view draw?  Cause they were once two of the most explosive, dangerous people on the planet.  Yet now they almost seem harmless.  When Tyson changed his trainer he went to shit.  Some could say when Axl lost Slash, he may be going to shit.  We don't fully know till he releases something.  So far, both have had shitty comebacks.  I hope Axl comes back.  I really do.  I was just amazed how much these two really do have in common when you thing about it.  It is so tragic.

Only on the surface do these two have similarities, although there are a few subsurfaces in common as well.

Mike was led astray by Don King after the deaths of Cus D'Amato and Jimmy Jacobs.  He had a wife (Robin Givens) that tried to take everything from him, a *$#$#($ #$@*! named Desiree Washington that accused him of rape (which he did not commit - tons of evidence not allowed into courtroom for unknown reasons), and many many other ridiculous things in the past 17 years.

Before Tyson's last fight they said he was in the best shape of his life.  He was knocked out.  Now they tell us Axl's voice is in great shape, lets see how it is live.  I think, like Tyson, it will be underwhelming.

This comparison has already been made several times on this board and others... with varying degrees of success. You're right though.... there are SOME similarities. One thing I find different though is that I think Axl is still 100% obsessessed with his craft... the same cannot be said of Tyson for years now... and ultimately, because of that, I believe that Axl will see much greater success when he finally steps out again... Tyson is through.

I think Axl is obsessed to a degree.  Don't know about 100% since it has taken so long.   But Axl bowing out of the 2002 tour was like Tyson getting knocked out by that last bum.  I hope Axl doesn't bow out again from this tour.

I did a few pieces before the Tyson/McBride fight.? I didn't think for a second he was in the best shape of his life.? In his prime, he fought around 215-220.? He weighed in over 230 and probably entered the ring at close to 245, if not a little higher.

Tyson was not knocked out.? Tyson quit on the stool (officially a TKO) after the nearly 7' 300lb Kevin McBride spent the first 5 rounds hugging and leaning on Mike.? Mike was spent and didn't want to continue.? He was not hurt at all, he didn't want it.? The 5'10 (some say 11) Mike Tyson had no business in the ring with a man of McBride's size at his age.? He didn't have the stamina to chop the tree down.

Music and boxing are very different animals.? A 60+ year old Mick Jagger can still sing, but a 60+ year old Muhammad Ali cannot box.

Tyson's already bankrupt while AXL's still rich.
Tyson's fight suck on the ring now. AXL's voice still amazing all these years.

I always use that analogy, as well as with MJ.. They are draws because of their past brillance with a hope that it'll shine through again and you nwant to be the one to see it... On the other hand they are both known for their bizarre behaviour so people also want to wintess the downfall as well...  people see MT, they say I'm tuning in to see what might happen next, bit an ear, maybe this time he will bight a nose off or punch the reff...
