Title: HUCK JOHNS Turned Down VELVET REVOLVER Invitation
Post by: Genesis on March 08, 2006, 10:11:33 PM
Launch Radio Networks reports:

Shortly after moving from Detroit to Los Angeles in 2001, Huck Johns received a call from former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash, asking him to audition for a new band he was putting together. That group became VELVET REVOLVER, with former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland singing. Johns told Launch he declined the invitation to audition. "I got a call Slash to audition for VELVET REVOLVER," Johns stated. "He said, 'Yogi from BUCKCHERRY and Matt Sorum gave me your demo and it's great and we're looking for a guy that's like Scott Weiland, and we hear you're the closest thing to it.' And I said, 'Well, why don't you get Scott,' y'know? And I kinda explained to Slash that I came out to L.A. to really of find myself and really write and find out who Huck was."

At the time of the call, Keith Nelson of BUCKCHERRY was slated to be part of VELVET REVOLVER, a position that was ultimately taken by Dave Kushner.

Johns released his own album, "Huck", on Tuesday (March 7), which was co-produced by Nelson. His first single, "Oh Yeah", is getting airplay on rock stations around the country.

Johns begins touring to support "Huck" tonight (Wednesday, March 8 ) in Chicago, Illinois.

If I remember rightly this was an invitation for the band Slash was planning BEFORE Slash, Duff and Matt got together from the Randy Castillo benefit.

Well, that was a rather poor career decision

That's why he's talking about it now, not when he turned him down ;D

smart move, jackass

Wow, so if they couldn't get Scott, they wanted a guy that sounded like Scott?

That's pretty lame.

There's nothing wrong with an audition, I just think it's silly to try to get someone who sounds like Scott. It's like them trying to get someone that sounds like Axl.

Oh, and I'm a big VR fan, so don't get me wrong, I just think it's pretty lame.

that's the word according to Huck, who happens to be trying to promote his album

am I the only one who thinks this is self serving and self promoting

"Slash asked me to audition cause I sound like Scott" wink wink
"buy my album and see for yourself ::)"
