Title: Stage design in 2002 and 2006 ....
Post by: Chief on March 05, 2006, 02:48:52 PM
What did you guys think of the stage setup in 2002?

Anyone know who designed it??

How do you think it will look in 06? Any ideas or suggestions?

Any other comments are welcome....

I love the stage design in 02 with the electronic screens (Plasma?). It was modern and it kicked ass!
I hope the stage will be bigger this year. With even more lights, more screens, just big shows. :peace:

The design in 02 looked real similar to the stage design for NIN on The Fragile tour.  I hope they do something just as good or better.  Try to bring a "larger than life" atmosphere to the concerts.

Axl should rip off U2 and go with some type of circular catwalk with fans in the middle. he likes to run around so it would be perfect. That type of set up ?brings the band so much closer to the crowd and makes the venues seem more intimate. It would be perfect for Axl.

yeah, the U2 stages are INCREDIBLE. It's huge, with huge lights, huge screens, plasma screens, everything is so modern, it's wonderfull.

Why more big time bands haven't taken from this stage design is beyond me. Cost reasons maybe. I agree dangnr watching Axl rip around a U2 style stage would be awesome!

I kinda got off topic. This is about Gn'R's stage right :hihi:

The 2002 stage was cool but It kinda looked like a mass. I like the Illusion stage the best.

They should stick with the ramp concept from the UYI tour and take it further:

Maybe with a set of magnetic boots it could be possible. Axl will just need to work on his leg muscles a little  :hihi:

That does look cool, Bono. But i'm not sure influencing axl with all that running room is in our best interest...

All I know is that I went to many the shows on 2002 and the lighting was total shit! Axl was in the dark when on the sides of the stage. You couldn't see him. Get a quality lighting guy!!! PLEASE

Isn't GNR just playin festivals for now? If so, I don't think they can have a very customized stage.

How 'bout a Star shaped stage?

yeah, that is true but i am just trying to get discussions going for their next stage setup for headlining shows. I'm sure the festival sets will be somewhat customized also.

"How 'bout a Star shaped stage?"

already done...Rolling Stones 1975...actually opened up like a flower...

I don't know how much customization is going to happen at a festival...it's basically a drum kit thing...didn't Axl just run off stage between guitar breaks anyway in 2002 ???

I dont know about that 2002 stage.. it's too simple. But maybe it's just good for the audience. I prefer the UYI-stage.. a lot of different spots to play and so on.

that stage you designed is pretty neat, but it would be tough for people in the center to see since the runway is elevated above the rest of the stage (so it would block out the stage.

I was at Boston in 2002 and the Hard Rock in 2001. I thought the 2002 stage was embarassing: choreographed pyrotechnics . .  giant chinese characters for  . . .  I would suggest that GNR strip to the basics . . .  black stage, plug-in and play . . . Otherwise it seems to affected, unnatural, Broadway-esque . . . . plug-in and play no gimmicks. : ok:

Seriously, all those lights and the steam machine...I guess it was to hide the quality the band was, which wasn't very well most of the time.  If you're good, you don't need all these bells and whistles, the music will do the talking.
