Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Was one of those days where I wanted to listen to something I haven't in a while so I played the entire album.. All I can say is that fucking album rocks, the guitar work in there is awesome, tons of solos... Each song is just loaded with riffs n solos... Such a shame most people don't know about it.. Rod jackson was killer too, plus the band dabbled in everything.. Long songs, bunch of 5 minute plus, one 6 plus, many different instruments like sax... Just a damn kick ass album with lots of hard rock and bluesy sounds

Mike, I like that one too.  Its Five O'Clock Somewhere is a Masterpiece though.

I agree.  I think Ain't Life Grand was awesome and totally underrated.  I don't know whether it was just not promoted well or (most likely) just didn't "fit in" with the type of music that was getting airplay & selling at the time.  I love it, though - great guitars and I liked Rod Jackson's voice.  My favorite song on the whole album is Mean Bone.   

I agree with ya..I really enjoy this album...I love mean bone but I think the start of it is a bit cheesy, and what about serial killer..pure class

I just think it's not something meant to do well commercially... ?As good as the album is I don't think it's something that would go over big with the general public.. It might be more appreciated in a jazz/blues store or something like that

Back to the moment is awesome!  Hell, I like the song "Ain't Life Grand" too!

I even liked the song that didn't make the album Rusted Heros.

my brother actually preferes the Slash's snakepit albums to g'n'r an vr.

I wonder how many gnr fans actually own snakepit pt 2?? I think it sounds nothing like anything over the past 10 years at least..

I have both versions (normal + Jap.  version with Rusted Heroes and other bonus tracls).
I enjoy Pit I too, yet,  ALG is better.
It was better than VR and even better than GNR in some ways.
I could never understand why Slash 'send' them to hell...

I'm as big a Slash fan as they come, and I liked the album when I first got it. But lately I just can't listen to it, it just reeks of cheese.

There's no doubt Rod Jackson is a good vocalist, but his lyrics come across as really cheesy.
There's some good riffs on there that are ruined because of cheesy lyrics:

Speed Parade (killer riff that was supposedly a tune written when he was still in GN'R, according to Slash)
The Alien (another rocking riff that is ruined by annoying vocals)

Having said that, there are a couple of songs which Rod does well - Shine, Serial Killer, Landslide.
Also the earlier version of Back To The Moment that they were playing live (I think it was then called Break You) was much better than the song that ended up on the album.

I'll take ain't life grand over Contraband anyday, although I have to say that I prefer Eric dover over Rod jackson :-\

Oh...you're just an Izzy fan.. :D (and I happen to be a Slash fan).  Personally, I think everything by Izzy (although good) sounds like the Stones minus Jagger (which isn't bad company to be in, I guess.)   

I think snakepit two is just really an aquired taste, rod jackson definetly is not for everyone..  if anything the album is more musically sound for everyone ,well most..

Both albums really rocked, my two favourites is Take it away from Snakepit 1 and Serial Killer from Snakepit 2..  The solo on the latter is awsome !! And the riff on the first is incredible !!!  I love the songs because Slash does some great guitar work, and he really shines! If you dont like the lyrics, fine, but seriously, fuck the lyrics when you have all that great and amazing guitar work, that make up for any weak lyrics if you ask me !!   : ok:

Funny.  I could never see what people liked in Izzy's work.
I have just a couple of his albums and I put them one just a few times and never thought they were much good...
Guess that saysit all that we can't say this is good and that ain't,  cause we all like something else...

i had teh first album today, I really like jizz da pit.. I'm glad I followed slash outside of gnr, he did some cool work with whoever he rounded up..

Yeah man, the first album really did kick ass.. Most of those songs were so fucking rockin..  Eric Dover wasn't anything great but he didnt ruin the album for me like Rod Jackson..

These are my favorites.. These songs kick total ass....

I agree 10,000%. I love this album, it fucking rocks. And to anyone who has  bashed it, they simply don't know what they are talking about, or have not listened to it. It  is impossible not to like.

I suppose I am being harsh to say the whole of ALG is cheese, there are a couple of ok songs on there, but for the most part Rod Jackson ruins it for me. :crying:

Slash also said in an interview leading up to the release of ALG that some songs were written when he was still in GN'R, Speed Parade in particular. Now could you imagine Axl singing over the music in that song! :drool:

I loved both of them as well, more so for the guitar playing than for the vocals (both voice and lyrics);  imagine how good both those albums would be if Axl or Scott had wrote and sung on them
