What is the general consensus on the worst GnR song of all time? This isn?t meant to be bashing, just an honest question.

I always felt like ?Shotgun Blues? was the worst written song besides ?Cornshucker?.

?So Fine? is my least favorite GnR song in general.

so you consider some of the filler things on Tool's lateralus album as a song? There's a track on it which contains nothing but a creepy monster roar sound for like 1 minute or something (cant remember exactly, it's been a while) I wouldn't count something like that as a song...... My World is at the end of the album for a reason......

Shotgun blues is up there for sure.

I dig Get In The Ring....its a great song that sums up Guns vs. the rest of the world attitude.  It gives us an actual Axl rant in a song which is pricless and how can you NOT like the ending when Duff thanks all the GNR fans "who have stuck with us, through all the FUCKING SHIT" hahaha its cheesy to some degree, but its a fun song.  Slash is pretty good in it too.

I hate anything with lyrics that make me cringe, i.e. Get in the Ring, My World, Shotgun Blues, Cornshucker.

Everything on Appetite is exempt because it is genius.

UYI very much laced with crap. My humble opinion.

I reserve judgement on Silkworms until I hear studio version.

The general consesus I've observed is that "My World" is considered the worst GN'R song ever.... I don't mind it though. If nothing else it really makes UYI a total fvcking potpouri of musical styles, and critics can't give Axl too much sh1t now for experimenting with industrial rock... he had the balls to put an industrial track on an album in 1991... kind makes him look like a bit of a visionary- even if people don't dig it.

"Oh My God" was not well received intitially, but there's strong support for it among certain segments of the GN'R community that I have noticed. It's not Sweet Child O' Mine... but I don't mind it.

Personally, my least favorite is "Anything Goes"- it just doesn't seem like Guns N' Roses to me... seems more like a lame 80's party band song about sex... it seems like every band on the strip in the 80's had a sex song like this one... it's just not fresh to me the way the rest of AFD is... I guess the counter-argument is that AFD is all about sex, drugs and rock n' roll and "Anything Goes" is the sex element... but I think the whole "sex thing" was covered pretty thoroughly with some of the lyrics in "It's So Easy" and the recording of Axl banging that chick on "Rocket Queen". :hihi:

Personally, I would have preferred "Bad Obsession" or "Crash Diet" on AFD instead of "Anything Goes".

Don't get me wrong, I do see your point, but imo anything with a track label is considered a song. ?But I'll say going by your example, I would consider Shotgun Blues or Get In The Ring as pretty crappy songs. : ok:

Another reason I think MY WORLD has to be considered a real track is because it has a songwriting credit in the CD booklet (Rose). ?ANYTHING GOES is the worst song on Appetite, but it has too much going on musically to be their worst song overall. ?Ditto with GET IN THE RING. ?Sometimes I imagine what we would've gotten if Slash had put that fantastic blues opening in service of something a little more substantial. ?MY WORLD is their worst studio effort for two reasons. ?First, it's not really Guns N' Roses, but just Axl putting together his own little coda for UYI II. ?More importantly, though, Axl's style on the song just doesn't work for the industrial feel of the tune itself, in my opinion. ?It always bothered me that it was the final statement from the UYI albums, and when I transferred everything over to iTunes, it's the only GN'R song I left out.

Much like alot of the illusions, I didn't like "You ain't the first" initially but now i actually enjoy it when i m feeling really mellow, hated So Fine at first too, but again, Certain days that song just really does it for me. ?But if I had to really chose I would have to say "So Fine". ?I guess the consensus around here is silkworkms, oh my god and my world. ?

I love Oh My God. I think it has one of the strongest melodies of any GnR song. I was so surprised that it was not a hit. I think there were production problems, that song could have been much more.

I ALWAYS thought it was axl at the end? Are you sure its Duff? Anyhow, Get in the ring is brilliant, I have the song minus vocals and it had potential to be much better, but i say it kicks ass anyway. I have never been a huge fan of My world.

My world wasn't anything that NIN , Ministry and many more "Industrial" groups hadn't done many years before. It is definitely a song or else there would be no songwriting credits or it would have been a hidden track at the end of the albums. I don't see how anyone can argue over what someone feels the worst song is. Hell , there could be a fan who hates "jungle" and it would be their right to do so. I vote for My World. hands down.

My least favorite GnR track (hence the least favorite since I don't have a worst GnR song) but I really don't dig Oh My God. And Silkworms was never released in a studio version so I cannot have an honest opinion on that.

My World kinda became this sorta cult song for me so it's kinda a legit UYI song that is now so important to the UYI albums. It has earned its spot good or bad....

I really didn't care about So Fine until I saw the Illusion live in Toyko tapes, then I fell in love with song (same with Bad Obsession).  I've always liked My World, I always thought that it didn't fit on UYI's but it was a good song on it's own standing point.  And Oh My God is an awesome track, a groove filled metal in your face track from Axl.. I hope Chinese Democracy has more of these.

As for Silkworms you hate to pass judgement because it can change and we haven't heard a studio version yet, but I think it's a lost cause.  I personally like the track, (it's too different for most Gn'R fans.. and I think a lot of fans don't understand it) but I can't see it getting much better.  It's rough, and it doesn't have a good base to work off of.  Not a bad track, but even if you tore it to shreds I don't think you could make a great track out of it.

I love Silk Worms but generally it or My World are considered the worst.

Of course, this is just one more opinion, but it's worth pointing out that "So Fine" was often pointed out in print reviews of UYI II as one of the highlights of the album.  Yes, I know, that's just someone else's opinion, but I thought it was worth pointing out.  Trying to recall a positive mention of My World...

Gn'R for me, are a band that has zero bad songs.  Just some are greater than others.


P.S. I really dig Duff's voice on So Fine.

Silk Worms kicked ass at Vegas! The vocals need lots of work. But how can you not rock out at the end of that song when everything kicks in? If anything, I think that song is way too short, and could really be something cool. Would make a great B-side.

My least favorite is Anything Goes. It's a terrible song. The lyrics are lame, the song sounds like it could be done by Poison. I really don't like You're Crazy on Appetite very much either. The Lies version blows it away.

Then onto the Illusions... The only song I would consciously skip on either of the 2 CDs is So Fine. It was way better live when Axl sang through most of the song. With that said, I think Double Talkin Jive was better with Axl singing too.

Anything Goes is the only GnR song that I REALLY don't like though. I can sit through all the others. But Anything Goes makes me cringe.

Every version of Anything Goes is great......The Mansion remake was an abortion.

Get in the ring...is amateur hour lameness...shotgun blues is dumb...so fine is so gay... KOHD on UYI 2 is embarrassing (the telephone and that lame discussion)... and Breakdown. Oh shocked are you? Truth is, is that this song pains me most because it tricks you. It tricks you into thinking its a beautiful song, then half way through, it tries too puke on you and take a crap on you at the same time. I hate how good this song could have been.

Silkworms is so fucking bad in a get in the ring kind of way. The tweaker part of my past actually kind of digs My world though. There is actually quite a few really bad GN'R songs. And 99% of them appear on the UYI's.

I'm almost certain it was Slash at the end of Get In The Ring, which by the way is an amazing song except for the rant in the middle.

Silkworms would be awesome if it wasn't the second to last song both times they performed it.  Axl's voice was just failing miserably by that time in both shows.

So Fine is boring, but not the worst.

People are gonna want to kill me for this one, but I've always thought Coma was annoying- not the worst though.

Cornshucker is hilarious, most likely just a thing they did as a joke.  At least in '88 they had the sense not to put their joke tracks on an album.

My World has to be the worst, not counting TSI.  It should have stayed just as a private, unreleased track.  It just ruins the entire album, especially because it comes after the alt Don't Cry.  Those arguing it's not a song, it has 'music' and lyrics, and is sort of sung.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but 'filler' tracks (not crappy songs, which UYI has plenty of BTW, but short tracks that can't be considered songs at all) in between actual songs or as an opener, only as a closer when a similar opening track is present.  UYI 1 should have started with Don't Cry, and UYI 2 should have ended with the alt Don't Cry.

A couple things: I actually like "My World," and in my opinion the only fault with it is that it's too short. I've never been a fan of the intro to "Coma"; Axl sounds too much like Ozzy for my liking.

Overall, however, I can't stand "Down On The Farm." I never liked the original version either.

Out To Get Me is by far the worse song on AFD, of the new songs Bodeans sucks.

Out To Get Me has a certain groove to it IMO. I'm not so much a fan of AFD's You're Crazy, but it's not their worst.

I didn't think "Oh My God" was that bad.  Not great by any means, but I thought it was okay.  I actually like the music on "Silkworms", what I don't like is the voice Axl sings with on it.  It sounds like the voice he sings "Down On The Farm" in, I don't like it.  He should've done a darker sounding voice.  It's not what I want to hear from GnR, but the music I thought was cool anyway

I agree with those that say My World doesn't count, it's just some little thing Axl threw together for a laugh, and taking it for what it is I quite like it. So my vote for worst GnR song goes to Knockin On Heaven's Door, don't get me wrong, I love the song, it's just that it's been done so many times it's ridiculous and I prefer Dylan's version anyways.

Dust N' Bones is definately the worst song ever by Guns N' Roses...its just horrible!  You Ain't the First and Move to the City are really really bad as well.  I wouldn't count My World as a song, cause its only a mess around thing that Axl did, like an interlude, only at the end.  But if I did count My World, I'd still rather listen to that then the other 3 songs I mentioned.  I also won't count Silkworms cause its not going to be released on an album, just something they did live.

The illusions albums, are unbelievably mixed bag. The songs are either really really reaaaaally good, or terrible, but terrible to a point where if you listen to them enough, they start to sound alright.

I don't understand why such talented musicians waste their time playing other people's songs. Covers in general, or tribute albums I find awful. What's the point of interpreting other people's art if you can just make your own? it's always seemed like, if you can't write a decent song, go cover someone else's. Just seems like a waste of time. The original is always the best, because it meant something to the person who wrote it.

Wow I had never thought Get In The Ring would be mentioned.

Growing up it was a favourite at school at the time.

GNR kicked ass on Knockin' on Heaven's Door, it was way better than the original or any other version by other bands.  Same with Live and Let Die and Sympathy for the Devil. 

not saying they sucked as rendititons. I love all of their original songs better than any of the covers they did, because their orinigal stuff was just so much better (with the exception of bad apples and you ain't the first  :P ) then their covers. I just don't see the point.

My goodness, can't imagine how anyone could mention "Bad Apples" here, one of my favourite GNR tracks, or "Oh My God" which is quite good as well. And I disagree wholeheartedly with the last poster, I love it when a band I really like does a few covers.

I don't consider "My World" to be an actual song, just a little 'experiment'. Plus the way Axl says "Oh my distorted smile" makes it all worth it.

Worst song candidates: Anything Goes, You're Crazy (Appetite version), Back Off Bitch, Shotgun Blues, So Fine, The Garden. I have actually come around to like Anything Goes over the years and it survives to that 'winding clock' sound at the start (any song using that instrument gets a thumbs up from me), Back Off Bitch survives due to that wicked Axl laugh early in the song. As for the others, ugh:

My World is the worst 'thing' they've ever released, Oh My God was the most disappointing (although I dig it now, I remember how big the anticipation was and yeah, it flopped).  Get in the Ring is quite possible the lamest song they've ever released, and Think About You is the most tedious song they still play live.

I dont see My World as a real song.. It's an outro kinda stuff. And I dont really hate any of Gn'R songs, but studio version of KOHD is lame :P I used to like it, but live versions are much better. Shotgun Blues aint bad at all.. Matt's drumming is cool :peace: Breakdown and RNDTH are the weakest songs, but I still like 'em. RNDTH is great as a live song, but I count only the studio versions on this thread.

There are some songs that I used to like that that I don't care for anymore like "Patience", "November Rain", "So Fine"...

well I would say My World, but I think that is too easy to say... also since Silkworms wasnt released officially I wont include that one.  I would have to go with Shotgun Blues.  I think I have only listened to it like 5 times straight through.

Agreed. "Shotgun Blues" is the only officially released GN'R song that I don't like. It's basically just a rant against Vince Neil with crappy music. I know a lot of people love this song though.

There's no GNR song that I don't like, but there are some that I don't care for as much as the others. I've never really cared much for the acoustic version of "You're Crazy." I've always preferred the cranked up version on AFD. The only other GNR song I often find myself skipping is "Right Next Door To Hell." I usually just skip straight to "Dust N Bones."

A lot of people listed "Silkworms," which I don't consider since it isn't released and was only played live like one or two times (I think, could be wrong). However, I kinda like that song. I much prefer it to "Rhiad," actually. "Rhiad" is the least favorite thing I've ever heard by Axl and the gang.

"My World" is an interesting song though...the lyrics really fit in with the music.  I can totally see Axl in the studio by him self messed up on pot and screwing around with sound effects and shit.  I wonder if Axl had to fight to keep the song on the album.  It reminds me of when I burn a cd and I've pretty much filled the cd, but there is like a couple of minutes on the end that is blank so I try and find the shortest possible song to throw in at the end to know that I've filled the cd.  ;D 
I never really got into Double Talkin' Jive until  heard it live.  I just wish there were more lyrics...the whole instrmental thing just seems to drag on...up until that it is cool though.

i'm no fan of My World either, although while it is far removed from anything normally associated with Guns n'Roses, the song is kind of amusing.

You Ain't The First, So Fine and My World are my least favourite. Then again My World is so painful to listen that I haven't listened to it enough for it to grow on me. Don't know what Izzy was thinking with YATF, its a childs song.

I didn't like Live And Let Die and thought it should be dropped from the set until I heard it live for the first time at the Dublin gig and thought it was one of the best songs of the night. Still, no credit to GnR coz its just a straight copy but heavier!

I used to dislike Bad Apples but now I like it, great chorus and awesome solo, I love the live version from Rock in Rio II. I'm not a big fan of Perfect Crime and Garden Of Eden. They would be good headbangers live but the studio versions aren't very interesting apart from the lyrics.

Get In The Ring is one of my fav GnR songs, great intro its just a simple rock n' roller but brilliant. The best intro to a song ever! Shotgun Blues is a cool song, love that line "And when your ripping off the children, somebody's fucking your wife". So Fine is kinda crap and makes no sense. It starts out as a love song, worrying considering its dedicated to a man! But then it changes to something. It's like two songs put together but it just doesn't work.

From the new stuff, Rhiad, Silkworms and Oh My God all suck. I don't like IRS either come to think of it.

YATF is cool, its meant to be simple, like a simple fuck you to a girl you don't like!

Um....wow... Crazy on Lies is arguably one of Axl's finest recorded work vocally. I want to say that if you dont like Crazy on Lies you don't like Axl or appreciate is vocal gifts. That is actually more shocking then saying you never liked Out To Get Me....you are fucking crazy dude. Maybe that is why you don't like it. Out To Get Me is pretty much THE GNR song that sums up Appetite Era GNR (I know its not as safe as saying WTTJ).

Couple questions...How old are you? And did you grow up with a silver spoon? It (OTGM) so fucking nails the feeling when someone is fucking with you, the feeling of someone telling you what to do, and what to say. The feeling that people are out to get you. And it is one of the few songs that only Axl could sing. He sells that shit. Its the ultimate fuck you song. And it is very empowering. Its vintage GNR at its finest.

I think "Rhiad" is an "Immigrant Song" knock-off. Therefore that is one of the worst of the new songs. But, "Silkworms" is outright, god awful. I hate to say it but I still think "The Blues" is a little too "Elton John" like for me.

again, my world is the obvious choice. you can tell at that stage axl held all the power in the band as anyone in their right mind wouldnt have put that tripe out.

I totally disagree with you, Buddha Master. The acoustic version of "You're Crazy" is one of my least favorite GNR tracks. Actually, it probably IS my least favorite recorded GNR track. The AFD version is much better, IMO.

Also, I think I remember seeing an old interview with Axl where he says that he hates his voice on the acoustic version. I don't wanna quote exactly because I don't remember, but if my memory serves me right, he basically says that the band sounds great but he sounds like shit on that song. I don't think he sounds like shit, but it's nowhere near his "finest recorded work vocally."

Without a doubt, My World is an easy choice in terms of not fitting the musical style of the band (and even if it did, still not a great song musically).  That being said, give the lyrics a read again.  Pretty damn cool.  Still my least favorite tune though.

 My World is definitely the worst original Guns N' Roses song that I've heard. It was something experimental that Axl said he composed in a few hours. Its all over the place. Among the worst are So Fine (bad lyrics, Duff's singing), the outro to Breakdown (an awesome song that was destroyed by Axl reading the passage), and Shotgun Blues (sounds too immature/repetitive). To those that list The Garden among their least favourite, I always thought it was among Axl's finest work. Slash's guitar wails and Axl's singing is haunting. It reminds me of classic rock from the late 60's. It could fit in the Beatle's Sgt. Pepper's album. Lyrically it was at first hard to understand but I figured it out with the help of the video (a strong message if you ask me).

i like all the songs gnr put out, it only depends on the mood, the only song i tend to skip is shotgun blues. but. who knows, there was a time i wouldn't listen to coma or breakdown and now those two are amongst my favourites.

i didn't take into consideration my world because it's not a real song, it's probably just a joke and i like it. and no new songs because we haven't heard studio versions

Actually, the best time they did DTJ was Rock in Rio 2 - I loved how they played godfather straight into DTJ and then Axl ranted about war and jungle over the end solo and they launched straight into jungle - it looked and felt so spontaneous and was superb showmanship! The thing that annoys me about the shows now is that each song is a separate entity - u get that on the CDs. I want a bit of teasing live!!

Act, they do seem to be doing that a bit more on this 06 tour - maybve we'll start getting more intros to songs/ two songs joined together etc.

As for songs i dont like - I'm not keen on anything goes - it alsways sounds out of time when they do that guitar trade off. but love songs that some regard as filler on the illusions! eg bad apples (not the best, but it has a nice groove). Only thing I'dve done with the illusions is take some of the gloss/polish off (but not too much) and changed the drum mix a bit (less snare reverb and more cymbals/treble). I'd also remove some of the cheesy bits that kind of held back a couple of the songs - KOHD telephone conversation would go. Get in the ring is a tricky one. Love it, but i can see why its regarded as cheesy: "I just hate you, I'm gonna kick your ass" etc and the cheesy line at the end. But the rant was classic!!

well thats not what i got from reading his post... it would be alot easier to understand though if it was audio or whatever.

It wasn't necessarily all downhill from there, after illusions came out GNR were the biggest band on the planet, sure UYI was no AFD but most people at the time still liked them. To this day NR is recognised as one of the great songs of all time as well as still winning best video awards.

Had UYI been more rock and less ballads with NR as a stand alone epic I don't think all the excess and bloat would have seemed so bad but they put too many ballads on UYI and it became sickly and overdone. As most of the people on here have listened to UYI countless times and seen numerous bootlegs of the epics being played and being occompanied by horns and backing singers and grand pianos their patience of listening to the ballads has probably worn a little thin, but it doesn't make NR a bad song. If you played a regular music fan all the singles by GNR they wouldn't say NR was the worst song among them because they would hear the song for what it is and not get distracted by all the other crap that seemed to occompany the GNR ballads.

On it's own as a song, without the bloatedness of what went with it, NR would and does rank up there as one of THE greatest songs ever.

And for those talking bad about the ballads.  Believe it or not, it was those ballads on UYI that made GNR very popular.  There music then appealed to all kinds of people and not just the metal heads.  My Dad likes GNR, and not because of Jungle, Brownstone, or Paradise, but because of songs like NR, and Dont Cry.  If they would have continued to produce just pure in your face hard rock, they would not have had the popularity that they recieved.  Remember, there are other people out there besides you.

Actually I don't think that one bit. Its just different, and that's why people are reluctant to like it: They do not like what they don't understand.

That song ended the UYIs for a reason. I do not know fully what that reason is, but I do like the song. I didn't at first, but when I actually listened to it more, I found that I actually quite liked it.... there's just something special about it.

Only thing I don't like is the positioning of the song... right after Don't Cry [alt lyrics], which is a very aesthetically pleasing to the ears song... and then when you're nice and chilled... My World comes on and its a huge big shock to the system.

THAT is the main reason I think people don't like it. They don't not like the song, they just don't like the positioning, and they blame it on the song being different and get it into their heads that they don't like the song.

I agree I think that's why people don't like it because it's so different from anything else by GNR at the time. It barely seems to have any roots or links to the bluesy rock n roll of GNR so fans of that music are unlikely to take to it because it's not their kind of music. I'm not sure about the positioning arguement though you could put something very in your face at the end of the album after DC like Perfect Crime and I don't think that would be considered as the worst GNR song.

The difference in the musical genre of a general guns song and My World is just too big a gap for some people (me included) to take to the song  :peace:

Agreed.  It comes right after Axl's rant in Get in the Ring also, which doesn't help it any.  It sounds like a throw-away B side track on a single for Get in the Ring (if there was ever gonna be one).  Lyrically it pales in comparison to Get in the Ring and musically also.   This is my least favorite in GnR history.  IMO, its not fair to compare post-1998 songs to the early years, because you don't have Izzy, Duff and Slash helping write.  Most of the new songs are not going to top the old ones.

WOW.  Bad Apples is not my favorite GnR track on UY1 by any means, but to say its the worst?  Lyrically, its so much stronger than songs like Shotgun Blues or So Fine.  I love the guitar riff throughout the verses also on Bad Apples.  Not a bad track.

I can't believe all the hating for Anything Goes - I guess it's a nostalgia thing for me, because I can remember listening to that song when I was 9 years old & thinking how badass GNR were lol...

Also, I have to say, I'm a big fan of most of the songs on the UYI albums - I disagree that most of them are filler.  Sorry, I don't hate My World - I certainly don't think it's a musical masterpiece, but it's different and interesting (at least to me).

Least favorites:
Knockin' on Heaven's Door - sooo sick of hearing ANYONE sing that song at this point; it's just too damn repetitive
Coma - you people are bitching that My World isn't a song, but Coma is?  Come on - there are only like 4 lines that are actually SUNG; way too boring for my taste
Sweet Child - played out, & ruined by stupid Sheryl Crow
The Garden - I could live without, kinda singsongy

I really don't get So Fine, it's such a dumb song...Axls parts are fine, but why oh why did anyone ever think Duff could sing!

It's funny a lot of people are saying Bad Apples as the least favourite yet that is the only song on UYI 1 or 2 that is credited as being a joint effort by the original AFD lineup (excluding Steven). All the rest are Axl and Izzy or just Axl or just Izzy or Slash and Axl but not all 4 members. The next closest song to having all the members involved is I think Get in the Ring with Axl, Slash and Duff, funnily enough that's also being considered as one of the worst songs too  :-\

GNR are one of the bands I can listen to all day all songs...but MY World aint a classic lol  :rofl:

By GNR standards, I think Move to the city is the "worst".  Perfect Crime is too noisy I think, it should be produced more straightforwadly and been a cool rock n' roll song.

Many people here slaggin off Anything Goes, which must be because of the lyrics. I think it is a really good rock tune. Same thing with Bad Apples. Great riff and a great, loose vibe to it.

For those who love Duff and haven't heard the Loaded album you should get it ASAP. Way better than Believe In Me IMO.

Is the Loaded album really that good? I was not happy with Believe in Me, personally, so I never ventured into any more of his stuff. He's a great rock bassist, but his attempts at singing are not my cup of tea.
